Recording in Quicktime Pro with a DV Camera

I have used Quicktime before to upload my videos to my Mac, but for some reason, this time Quicktime isn't reconizing the camera. The preferences are all set-up, cords are in place, and I've even got the camera plugged in so it's not the battery.
If I use iMovie, it works fine, but I'd rather not use iMovie to upload the video because I want them as separate video files. Make sense?
Basically, what am I doing wrong? How do I get Quicktime to recognize my camera so I can upload/record the footage onto my computer?

Snapz Pro can record onscreen "video" in QuickTime formats.
WireTap (free version) can record "audio" playback in .aiff format which QuickTime Pro can convert to smaller sized files.

What format of MPG is this?  Is this an MPEG1 or MPEG2 video?  How was the video created?

  • Where is a Screen Recording in QuickTime Pro?

Where is a Screen Recording in QuickTime Pro?

Your signature says Mac OS X 10.5.8. I am not sure that QuickTime Player screen recording is available in 10.5.8. It may have started in 10.6.
If it works on your system, in QuickTime Player you will find these commands under the File menu:
    New Movie Recording
    New Audio Recording
    New Screen Recording
Edit: Oh, you're asking about QuickTime Pro. Not sure, sorry.

  • Got Quicktime Pro with my Mac Pro, where do I find my registration code?

When I bought my Mac Pro two years ago it came with QT Pro. I've now reinstalled my computer, how do I get my QT to be Pro again?

QuickTime Pro has never been included with any Mac. It might have been activated if you bought the Mac with Final Cut Pro/Studio pre-installed, though. If that's the case, reinstall FCP/FCS and it should reactivate QT Pro.

  • Copy Video From Sony VRD-MC3 DVD Recorder to Quicktime Pro

I burn short clips to DVD on my Sony VRD-MC3 burner. I then load it on my mac to convert over to quicktime pro so I can create clips and add to my movies. The DVD plays on my mac DVD player but I can't get it to open on my QT pro so I can convert to the necessary movie extensions. The Finder wont show any folders on the DVD. Can anyone help me with being able to load these files and then convert using quick time Pro?
    Thanks

I found this info about the recorder in a Google search:
    Disk /dev/hdc: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes
    Disk /dev/hdc: 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/hdc1 1 10 80000+ 83 Linux
    /dev/hdc2 10 20 80000+ 83 Linux
    /dev/hdc3 20 30402 244036536+ 83 Linux
Partitions 1 and 2 are ext2 filesystems storing the firmware files (locked up in a signed+encrypted cramfs image, so hacking will be hard). Partition 3 is encrypted xfs. Until someone cracks the encryption, no directory listing and no TS files (plus no guarantee that Sony is using TS files to store the content anyway). Breaking the encryption on any of this stuff may be tough since the manual acknowledges that they are using GNU Privacy Guard. On the other hand, since people have reported being able to update multiple units from the same Sony-provided USB flash drive, that would seem to indicate that the firmware isn't individually signed and encrypted for each unit, making it more significant if someone does manage to figure out the keys and signing scheme.
Sony does this kind of stuff all the time. It's similar to Macrovision protection on VHS tape recordings.
My guess is that the encryption is passed on to the DVD copy of the file which allows viewing but not any duplication or conversion.

  • Recording using Quicktime Pro

I am trying to record a video which streams across my internet connection; the video uses Quicktime player.  I thought it was possible to do this using Quicktime Pro, so yesterday I spent $30 on the upgrade, but when I right clicked on the video screen and chose "Save as Quicktime Movie" and the destination folder, as that is there is 809 bytes of data, even though the info states the correct length of the movie.  I can click on the movie, and it opens a new screen and will play, but it is streaming, and I really need this to be where I can watch and listen to it offline.
Can anyone help me with this issue, if possible?  I hope I didn't waste $30.
    Thanks!
    JY

I don't know about any YouTube "streaming media". All I've ever seen is "progressive downloads".
Progressive downloads allow playback while the file continues to download. Streaming media is served from special server software that sends "hint tracks" and you can step through playback at any point in the file. You could view the last minute of an hour long streaming file as soon as you got the initial file started.

  • PLEASE HELP!  Quicktime Pro with iMovie and .MPG Files

Hello. Please help me. I'm on a G5. 10.5.3. iMovie 7.1.2 (577) I have a series of .MPG files that I need to import into iMovie to edit, arrange and then export over to iDVD, etc. iMovie does not see the .MPG files. The Apple site states that iMovie sees only MPEG-4 files and DV files. I also own Quicktime Pro 7.5 (149.5). When I open the .MPG file in Quicktime Pro, even though the file plays perfectly, when I select "Export to MPEG-4" so I can create a readable file by iMovie, I get an error message that say's "Failed: Export process terminated unexpectedly (10). Complete frustration. Is there another way I can convert these files so iMovie can see them? What's wrong with my Quicktime Pro? I bought DivX Pro last night. I thought maybe that program would make an iMovie readable file. No luck. I used DivX to convert and it created a DivX file with NO SOUND. Wasted money.
If anyone has any solutions for my problems noted here or possible alternatives so I can achieve what I'm trying to do successfully, PLEASE ADVISE as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and THANKS, in advance, for your help.

You'll get a ton of ideas from others so, by no means, don't think that mine will solve your issue. I, personally have fallen in love with [StreamClip|http://www.squared5.com>. It does a ton of stuff.
As for your Error 10, hopefully that's just an "out of space" (on your drive) error and not an I/O error (a problem with the drive reading/writing)
But, you said you have Quicktime Pro and you're going to iMovie so I'd try to make your .MPG files a DV Stream...I think that's what I movie likes.
    Anyway try that,
    Tom

  • Downloading Quicktime Pro with OS X 10.7.3

What are the best steps for downloading the latest Quicktime Pro ?  I recently installed OS X 10.7.3 and  have QT Player 10.1 but would also like to have the latest Quicktime Pro.  Is that QT Pro 7?

What are the best steps for downloading the latest Quicktime Pro ?  I recently installed OS X 10.7.3 and  have QT Player 10.1 but would also like to have the latest Quicktime Pro.  Is that QT Pro 7?
Only QT 7 can be keyed for "Pro" use. The latest version of QT 7 compatible with Snow Leopard and Lion OS is v7.6.6 which can be downloaded HERE. If needed, the instructions for keying QT 7 for "Pro" use are located HERE. You can purchase the QT 7 Pro key at the online Apple Store but be sure to save a copy of the purchase/registration information as Apple seems to have closed the door on the software download page for online accounts which used to store a copy the registration key information.

  • I can't register Quicktime Pro with Quicktime 7

I am having a problem registering Quicktime Pro, in order to upgrade from Quicktime 7.  I have purchased the software and have typed reg name and code properly but it won't send after I typed it in.  Any help?

Just press the Tab key after entering in the registration name and code.

  • Cannot record stereo track along with built-in camera

I'm hoping since imovie 6 is considered superior, by some, to more recent versions that knowledgeable users are still following this forum. I've got a pair of stereo mics going through a lexicon usb interface -- chosen as the input in audiomidi setup -- but imovie will only record them in mono. The same mics record fine in stereo for audio applications such as garageband. The best I can deduce is that when using my macbook's built-in camera -- that is, clicking 'record with isight' -- imovie will receive the audio from the interface, but only in mono -- as would be the case were I using the built-in mic as well. What has your experience been?

When you open iMovie look at the switch under the screen. You will see a camera on the left of the switch and scissors on left. Flip the switch to the camera and the built in camera should come on. Then on the screen it will say record with isight. That starts the record.

  • Audio Recording on Quicktime Pro

    I recently purchased a new I Mac.
I would like to convert a bunch of old audio tapes from both Cassette and DAT to make WAV files, so I can burn them on to CDs. My DAT machine has optical output, so I purchased the TOSLINK optical cable for the optical input on my Mac.
Before I go ahead and purchase QT Pro, I want to be certain that I can perform this task for sure. IS QT Pro capable of recording audio from a DAT machine?
Thank you. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  • Quicktim Pro with Windows XP

Apparently i am not the only one with this problem but i cannot seem to find the answer.
I recently purchased the pro key and set up the registration as instructed. The registration shows 'pro' version but none of the pro features are available for use. I have tried all the 'tests' offerd by quicktime kirk and it is still not working.
I have verified the entry of the code and rebooted several times. If the QTpro version does not work with XP then just say so and let me move on to another program that does work. But if there is a fix i would like to know what it is.

Yea, Tlav, you're not alone. It's just Apples revenge against the PC, because clearly Apple seems to care less! I'm still trying to figgure out how to go back to the free version that use to work on my PC. Good luck! I hope we find a cure!

  • Using Quicktime Pro with Windows XP?

I have mpeg-4 videos saved on my pc (WindowsXP). Will installing Quick Time Pro allow me to edit these? I need to cut and splice these videos together for a school project.

If your files open and play correctly in QuickTime Player then the Pro upgrade will allow you to edit them.

  • Unable to activate Quicktime Pro with old registration number

thanks in advance for any help or suggestions offer.
I have a new imac, I have installed QT7 from the extra discs provided and based upon another thread I read, apparently there is no QT item in system preferences in Snow Leopard to place the registration number. I did do a restart after installing QT7.
If I understand correctly upgrading happens in QT7 Registration. I have my original email from several years ago additionally I have access to my old computer and have confirmed I have entered the name and registration number correct, but QT7 says it is an invalid registration number. Any thoughts?

Well I had previously had copied the registration number and pasted it and thought I could type my name correctly but something was different when I copied and pasted both as it now works. thanks
