Recording input with Qosmio G40-10E

Hey
I've got the Qosmio G40-10E.
Trying to record some TV, been messing around just seeing if I could get it working, but no luck.
First I tried playing about with media center, couldn't find a way.
I then googled it and found this... (I realize it's a different model, but it's the closest example I could find)
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=21006
But the picture enhancement utility isn't in Toshiba assist thing for watching input (tried that first just to test). I downloaded cyberlink and that could only find two devices (webcam and Toshiba capture).
Any idea? I'm linked up to a TV using it's composite out going to the video-in cable (going from composite to, i think it's, a 3.5 jack (same used for headphones anyway) I got with the laptop.
Thanks in advance for any help : )
Kieran

Wait a moment. Have you problem with recording only or you are not able to watch TV at all?
I have made some experiments with Qosmio G30 and WMC and I was able to record all available programs. Because of that I would like to know if you are able to watch TV or not.

  • Qosmio G40-10E: How to conenct to the sky LAN broadband

    I know nothing about computers.
I'm buying the G40-10E and geting sky broadband and they say you need a spare ethernet on the computer.
All I can find is RJ11 and RJ45 is this the ethernet in a differnent name.
If i cant link it to broadband this laptop ill save my money.

    Hi
    Dont worry dude.
The Qosmio G40 supports all ports which are important to establish the sky broadband.
The RJ45 is the Ethernet port; known as Lan port ;)
You can connect the sky broadband modem to this port using the simply LAN cable ;)
Hoe I could clarify this ;)

  • BIOS issue with my Qosmio G40-10E

    Hi
Im desperate I have to access my computer before Wednesday or I could lose my job. Ive installed a SSD drive which went ok. I have adjusted the BIOS settings and now my computer wont boot .
It goes to the Qosmio logo and to a logos of hdds' usbs etc and hangs. I cant get into my BIOS as it seems to ignore the key press to go into BIOS (tried ESC, DEL, F1, F2, F8). The computer stays on the icon screen. I have taken my machine apart and removed the rtc battery its been a day but it hasnt reset the bios to default .
Has anyone any ideas? Is there a jumper/ dipp switch on mother board to reset? Is there a special key to press I dont know about? Where ahould i hit it!!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated I will be in serious trouble if I cant get my machine working I know I ahoukdnt have mapessed ith BIOS but I assumed at worse I would be able to access and reset .
Thanks o much for any advice
    phil

    > I have taken my machine apart and removed the rtc battery its been a day but it hasnt reset the bios to default
This was the worst thing you could do removing RTC battery would not reset the BIOS.
This was possible on desktop PC but doesnt work for notebooks.
To be honest your issue description isnt very useful you said you are not able to access the BIOS. If notebook does not ask for BIOS password, you should be able to access the BIOS pressing ESC and F1
I guess this should work of course in case you did not damage the motherboard by removing the RTC battery.

  • Qosmio G40-10E - Does it support a 12mm Hard Drive?

I've been searching on the internet for this, and I've found some websites say that it DOES support a 12mm hard drive in its bay, and others have not said this at all.
I just want confirmation that a 12mm hard drive, of 2.5", will fit into the laptop, as I wish to upgrade to the new WD 1TB 2.5" HDD, but it's not the standard 9.5mm size, but 12mm instead.
    Thanks

    Hi
I think Dr.Lamp is right. If your notebook is compatible to this HDD its possible to use HDDs with 12.5mm height. So you can buy this 1TB Western Digital HDD that you want.
After this you can give us a feedback how it works. 1TB is pretty much disk space and Im interested in it how it works. :)

  • Can I use two HDDs in Qosmio G40-10E

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit two Hard drives in this laptop. I read simewhere that there were supposed to be two hard drive slots in it?
If so where is it located?
Would ther be any issues around extra heat that might be generated etc?
I have had mine for about 5/6 months and have already had a screen replaced (faulty backlight).
Have many other people had any problems?
I'm just wondering whether its worth taking out the extended warrnty.
    Cheers.

For those who are interested (from Natalie at Topaz):
    P000488540: Hard Drive Holder = £0.60
    P000417800: Screws = £0.87 each (4 required)
    Total = £3.48
    (Ex. VAT & Carriage)
    P000413670: Connector Screw = £0.95
I have no idea what the 'connector screw' is, but at a quid, I've ordered one anyway. I've also had two emails - written in Natalie's own fair hand... on her keyboard... in just 24 hours.
What a fabulous bunch they are at Topaz! (The also do repairs and servicing for Toshiba.)
I don't know how long it'll take to arrive but at least I've found the right kit, and from a company who really do have superb customer service - even to having human beings write emails. Amazing service so far from Topaz - gotta' love 'em.
    Cheers,

  • Qosmio G40 - How do I monitor sound input?

I have installed Adobe Audition on my Qosmio G40 but have been unable to monitor sound input or get Auditon to record. (It used to work fine on my xp pc) I have been able to record sound but cannot listen to it as its 'going in'. I also tried to install an external sound card: CREATIVE EXTIGY but cannot get the laptop to recognise that it is installed.
Can EXTIGY work with my laptop?
How do I monitor sound input?
The installed sound card is Realtek
    Advice welcome.
    Sean.

I presume you mean the menu when you right-click the volume control icon on the desktop toolbar. It does list the input devices and when a mini jack input is connected the simulated led lights respond to the volume of the input. I can record from the line input but I cannot hear it as it is going in. In other words it records it silently but plays it back okay.
The device manager declares that the sound card is working without problems,
Somehow I want to be able to hear the input as it is being recorded and I have not been able to find out how yet. Some people have been telling me that it is a vista problem. Others say that its the laptop manufacturers who set up the laptop so that when recording line input the sound is disabled to prevent feedback from the external mic on the laptop.
Either way I am a bit astonished that I cannot resolve this problem and it is not a problem that has been mentioned before when you consider how many thousands of people are buying Toshiba laptops !!
A few days ago I emailed Realtek but have not held my breathe for a reply.
Its looking like I might have to uninstall vista and reinstall xp to solve this problem.

  • Qosmio G40 has a problem with HDDVD

    Hi,
I just bought Qosmio g40 Nice laptop but I cannot watch HDDVD movies on it.
Movie crashes sound as well I update bios Drivers for graphic card Toshiba HDDVD player but that makes no changes.
I do not know where to go and how to solve the problem Last samuraj HDDVD does not play.
    Anyone can help?

DId you already tried to recover your machine? Perhaps it could solve your problem, but I cannot promise it. Otherwise it would be interesting if this problem only occurs with this movie or with another disc.
Please grab some another HD-DVD and check if the same occurs. Maybe its an hardware related issue.

  • Recording line-level input with Griffin iMic

I'm having trouble recording line-level input from a stereo system with a Griffin iMic. Even though all extraneous inputs have been deactivated, I'm still getting a slight feedback hum. There should be no extraneous noise whatsoever. I haven't done this in quite a while, so I've forgotten what I must do. Any help is apprreciated. Thanks very much. Peace,
    iBook G3, 1.42 Mac mini G4 DVD±RW   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   640Mb SDRAM, 1gb DDRAM

I'm trying to digitize an audio cassette with
Soundtrack Pro. My setup includes a Griffin iMic
that goes to a USB port. The trouble I'm having is
in controlling the input volume. The level meters
indicate clipping, but I'm not clear how to set the
    input level.
If it's in the Recording tab (>Input) with the Gain
    slider, mine is greyed out.
    M Wohlgy,
(I know this is months after your post.)
Control of the iMic volume is in the Preferences pane called "Sound". You can set the output and the input levels there.
Remember the iMic's position switch works only for the imput, either close to the microphone icon for "microphone" or away from it for "line in".
    I use the iMic exclusively.

  • Problem with BRIGHT.EXE in QOSMIO G40

    Hello and good morning,
I'm a new user here at the forum, and i hope i'm posting in the right place :).
I just bought, well in march a Qosmio G40, and i'm very pleased with it, but 3 days ago I noticed a problem with it, the program BRIGHT.EXE, which controls the brightness of the flatscreen is not working (well, it stoped working), when i press the button in the operacional front panel, or use the combination FN+F6 or F7, it doesn't work, windows says that the program BRIGHT.EXE gave an error but doesn't specify which error.
Does anyone have any idea of why it is happening and a way to solve it ?
    Best,
    Ricardo

Thank you guys for your answers.
I'll try first to install the Value Added Package first. Do I have to uninstall the version i have first? or can i start the instalation and it will uninstall automatically ?
And then if the re-installation won't work, i'll try to rollback my OS.

BTW: as i have Vista in Portuguese (:( ) i still don't have SP1 ehehe

  • Qosmio G40: HD-DVD - BluRay drive replacement

    Hello,
Due to the latest events and Toshiba agreeing that it's lost the format war, I wonder if it is possible to replace that very-soon-unusable HD DVD drive to something that will be able to read/write upcoming movies WITHOUT loosing the warranty (G40).

Hi there, I have the same problem. I wanted a high-end laptop with a WUXGA screen and was torn between the Qosmio G40-108 and and another notebook. In the end I bought the Qosmio G40-108 because of HDMI 1.3 and the 512Mb nVidia graphics. Still it's a great laptop and the HDMI output on my Samsung HD TV is brilliant. I play everything using the latest PowerDVD Ultra and there's no need for standalones anymore.
In a way I'm glad that this latest format war is over (at least until the next new thing comes out).
I think the Qosmio drive is a 9.5mm SuperSlim drive. At this point I'm sure there are no BD drives of that size (and when they come out they'll be mega expensive anyway), so we have to wait and see.
I recently bought a Pioneer BDC-202 Blu-ray player/DVD recorder and I use that on the Qosmio via SATA to USB2 adapter, this setup covers all my BD playback needs.
It'be be good to know if changing the drive will invalidate warranty.

  • Windows 7 Drivers For Qosmio G40-12S

I have a Qosmio G40-12S with windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
And i have Install a Windows7 Ultimate 32bit instead of vista , Before that i had download all drivers in this link (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp)
    I have select those choice:
    Notebook > Qosmio > Qosmio G Series > Qosmio G40 > PQG40E > Windows7 32Bit > ALL > ALL > English > Search
but i think there no Windows7 version from all what vista has, For Example: there no Infrared driver for Windows7 but there one for Vista
There no TEMPRO, ASSENT, Acoustic Silencer, AMT, Online Product Information, Remote Control Manager, Touchpad Driver, Tiles for Mobility Center, etc.. For windows 7!
My Vista Driver was 27 driver - windows 7 only 19 driver!!!
8 Driver was missing in that link, were can i find that drivers?
I have search for TouchPad Driver and i have found one for it, But i can't found Infrared Driver and Remote manager so my Remote Control not working now?
    Please advise me!

I presume offered drivers are there for Win7 upgrade only. That means before you upgrade preinstalled Vista you must remove some Toshiba drivers, tools and utilities.
After successfully installed upgrade you should install just stuff offered on Toshiba download page. All other stuff will works with Vista specific drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities.

  • Batch input with objects

    Hi,
Exists a standard class to develop a batch input????
    Any ideas???
Is it possible to create a batch input with objects??

    Hi there
    Why not
just define your class in the normal way
decide what variables you need to pass
in the methods of your class call the fm modules bdc open, bdc dynpro etc etc.
Incidently the following include will have a decent amount of code for the BDC bits.
    include bdcrecx1.
A good way is to start sm35 to record what you are doing on the screen. When you've finished  go to your recording in SM35 and click on CREATE PROGRAM - it will create most of the code for you including the screen fields -- you'll need to edit a bit of course as you don't need everything that will be shown.
Debugging in the CREATE PROGRAM might show you a decent generic way of generating BDC's which you could easily do via a class.
Note however using BDC's is the LEAST PREFRERRED WAY of performing work and should only be used as a LAST RESORT if there really is no other way. A lot of new BAPI's and Classes are now available which can do away with the need for BDC's  in most cases.
    job done.
    cheers

  • Qosmio G30-10E - need mainboard partnumber

    Hi,
i need the Partnumber of my mainboard, because it's faulty and i want to replace the mainboard,
and my dealer wants the exact partnumber to find the right sparepart.
But i dont find the partnumber on the board, the one and only i found is:
    +A5A001964 / 030 A0 / C074AGOT+
    +Model: Qosmio G30-10E+
    +PQG32E-03903NGR+
    +S/N: 47816895G+
And my dealer says, the partnumber looks like this example: P000462640
    Thank you

As far as I know Toshiba service partner has such info. They have access to Toshibas database and can check this. As far as I know Toshiba has offered two platforms for this Qosmio G30 so it is very important for you to get mainboard for PQG32E.
I mean if you have this number you can order it alone and you don't need some special dealer.
Try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
It is really not easy to help you with this.
And yes. Part number is something like K000xxxx.

  • Qosmio G40-10Z: Question about energy use in sleepmode

When I turn my new Qosmio G40-10Z in sleeping mode, with full battery (and off the AC power), I can't start the computer next day. I can only start it up after connecting it to AC power. I get a message windows Vista wasn't closed properly and I am asked to start in normal way or safe mode.
After starting the battery indicates only 2% power. So, what is using power in sleeping mode? Why isn't the sleep mode not transferred to hibernation state when the battery is almost empty?
(New notebook, only vista and office installed and only television antenna is connected)

    Hello guys
At first I just want to write a little bit about theory. Microsoft has implemented standby/Hibernation mode to offer PC users comfortable OS usage and make switch ON/OFF time much shorter.
According to the definition standby mode should be used for short time (launch, meeting and if you must leave the notebook for few hours). Hibernation mode should be used if you leave the notebook over the night or maybe day or two. In standby mode all data will be written in RAM and to keep them notebook needs power. In Hibernation mode all data will be saved on to HDD and notebook can be switched OFF. In hibernation mode the notebook does not need permanent power supply.
For me it is really strange that you use standby mode with battery and almost 20 hours. With this I do not want to say that described battery issue is normal but for 20 hours it is logic to use hibernation mode.
Back to battery issue: only 20 hours under standby mode is really to short. I have tested it with my Tecra and after 5 days I was able to switch ON notebook as usual (only battery power supply.
In your case I see only two explanations:
    1. Somehow notebook can not switch into standby mode properly and stays running (I do not believe this because you can see if something like this happen)
    2. The battery is defective
What you should do is to contact Authorized service partner in your country. Make a call and explain the situation. Maybe you will get new battery or they should test it using your battery.
Sorry for this long posting. I wish you luck and hope you will clarify this issue very soon.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Recording sound with Soundbooth

I managed to record sound with the system 'sound recorder', but when I try to record sound in soundbooth with the same mic (simple cheap mic) there is nothing showing on the meter and nothing records. Can somebody please explain to me what is the problem?

While Premiere and Soundbooth both support a Windows audio standard called ASIO, both also include a driver that will let you use audio devices that do not support this format.  The driver is configured by default, but may not always select the proper input port - depending on the audio device and what Windows reports to the application.
Fortunately, it's not too difficult to tinker around and find the right setting.  In Soundbooth, choose Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware...  In the dialog that pops up, you should see a drop-down labeled "Default Device"  If you are running Soundbooth CS4, you should see "Soundbooth 2.0 WDM Sound" listed here.  Click the Settings button, and in the new dialog, click the "Input" tab.  Here you'll see a list of input ports for your selected audio device.  Make certain your microphone port is enabled, and click OK a few times to get back to the main program.  Click the Record button and make sure the microphone input is selected in the Port: dropdown.  Try recording and see if this solves the problem.
If it still does not record, or you do not see the proper input to enable, you may need to verify the proper audio device is selected, or if you're running Windows Vista, that the input port you want to use is enabled in Window's Audio settings.  You can find this by right clicking on the speaker icon in your system try and choose "Recording Devices."
    Good luck!
