    Dear Community,
how can I connect SCSI tape recorder via USB to iMac ?
Is there any adapter/converter on the market now ?
    Cheers, Marek

    Thanks Jan.
Actually the reason to use Quantum SCSI tape recorder is to back-up big amount of data (propriety movies footage) both on PC (what is quite easy, using SCSII host adapter with VHDCI 68 connector) and iMac what seems to be not easy. All my search by Google leads to that conclussion, they finished production of SCSI-to-USB or FireWire because somebody stopped to produce chips to covert protocols. So even buying noe second-hand adapter, no guaranty it's still working with Lion (nobody is developing drivers anymore). Strange is, nobody or just a few are using SCSII (Ultra 320) devices (while the transfer is not bad, 320 MBps what is 2560 Mbps, so the only limitation is tape recording (some 80 MBps) not an interface. Using compression mode I can (and I do) record 1,6 TB of footage data. However quite slow, is safe and cheap, comparing with any HD storage solution. USB 2 is much more limited.
I'm using Time Capsule for buck-up. But even 3 TB one day will be full of data, then old back-ups will be eaten by new once, what is not good idea for archives. I'm using another 2TB NAS HD (2x2TB RAID 1), but this is also going to be full soon.
Of course, you are right, the option is another machine (OSX,Win,Linux or Solaris) equipped with SCSII controller. But this requires another machine, just for back-up time to time, and in practice iMac folders must be shared with that small auxiliary machine because amount of data practically excluding even temporary data collection on auxiliary machine. And it must be transfer by wire, not WIFI, my only network. Tape recording is in my case really good, professional solution, isn't it?
Anyway, if somebody has similar requirements as me, and found the solution for SCSI, please let me know. So far, follow Jan's idea, I'm thinking about some embeded mini PC, fanless, equipped with slot for SCSI, with SOME smart system on-board, to deal with iMac for type recording. The option is previous Apple model, but to be honest, I became Mac/OSX user 4 years ago. I fell in love with Mac, but my knowledge about previous models is based on Google....
My desk becomes full of boxes. Do you know how big Quantum TC-L42BX is ? Is very big. And now another box.....another keyboard....another screen... And one small adapter could solve the problem. Eh....
    Best regards,
    Marek

  • Recording TV on my iMac and playing back on a Windows PCa

I work nights and miss most of the TV shows I like to watch. I want to record TV on my new iMac and be able to play the shows back on my PC laptop.
I have an Elgato 250 plus and all the software loaded on my iMac. Elgato uses Titan TV for the channel lineups.
While Elgato claims I can export my recordings to WMV, in fact I can only export to QuickTime. My export to WMV is about 5mb in size for an hour program which is about 3 minutes of show play time. Elgato says it should work and that is all they can do for help.
On Tuesday of this week, my EeTv stopped connecting to TitanTv for channel update, and no-one, TitanTv nor Elgato is willing to respond t this problem. When I try to manually update my channel lineup, I get the error message incorrect provider ID.
Is there anyone else that provides a TV tuner and recording software for the iMac?
    Thanks for your help

    Hello,
Sounds like you could do with removing and re-installing EyeTV as it's not working properly. It would also be worth trashing the preferences.
In the meantime try exporting to H.264 MPEG instead.

  • Glitches from recorded instrument and NOT recorded mic??

Okay, I know this has been a standard concern. Clicks, pops, "glitches" in recording. However, I have been using Logic Pro 8 for about 7 months and have just now encountered this issue. I have recorded multiple track recordings with my mic input many times before. I have used up to 12 different tracks of audio recordings from my mic. My project has always played back with no issues whatsoever. Yesterday I was for the first time recording a bass guitar. I began having glitches in the recording. It got really bad to the point i had to restart Logic. I upped the I/O buffer size from 128 to 256 and that helped a little. I stilled had a crackle here and there. I know it was not being recorded because on playback i can play the same part over again and not here the crackle in the same spot. Why is my recorded bass track giving me crackles when I have had up to 12 tracks of audio recorded from my mic with up to 24 different audio regions, all tracks with several plugins and never once had this issue. I am having this issue with my 2 audio tracks of recorded bass. NO plugins. I do not have more software instruments than normal either. I have tried adjusting my buffer size to many different settings, anything below 256 causes a "system overload" error after a minute or so. Anything up to the max 1024 still gives me "crackles". Here is my system and settings I normally have on default........
    iMac 24" 2009
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
2.66 GHz intel core 2 duo
    4 Gb 1067 MHz DDR3
Disk: recording to iMac internal Drive 1TB, have around 600 GB free
    Recording Hardware:
Apogee Duet via FW port on iMac
    Logic Settings:
    Logic Pro 8.02
I/O Buffer Size:128 (What I have always used)
    I/O Safety Buffer: Not checked
    Recording Delay:0
    Universal Track Mode: Checked
    24 Bit Recording: Checked
Software Monitoring: Checked (Have tried without)
    Independent Monitoring Level:Checked
Process Buffer Range: Medium ( Have tried both other options, small and large)
    Recording file type:AIFF
    Project Sample Rate 44.1
I hope I have given enough info for some helpful input, THANKS IN ADVANCE
    Logic Audio Setttings

nope not yet. I'm going to go home and try a few things, first i'm going to REstart my computer. I'm going to compare different projects to the one i'm having issues with. Make sure it is just specific to the project. If not, then I have something more serious happening that is now affecting projects that were fine in the past. Then I will also see about using Logics Duet mixer as opposed to Maestro. Also, BIGGY< i need to see that the crackling is still there in the tracks when playing through the Built in Audio. This will help distinguish if this is hardware based issue or not. And although i think i'm current, i'm going to double check and reisntall the newest DUET driver. IF these other things don't work. I'm just at work so i haven't been able to really get under this problem yet. BUt i've gotten good ideas on what to try.

  • DVD from TV DVD Recorder plays on one iMac and not another

I've recorded DVD+Rs on a Sony DVD/VHS analog/digital recorder. They play fine on my white iMac, but appear as a blank burnable disk on my aluminum iMac. Could this be a software issue of something I've added to the white iMac they do play on? Darned if I know what it is...

  • Recording TV on my iMac

Before asking my tv recording question, here is what i am using:
iMac 17" Core Duo intel 1.8ghz 1 Gig RAM With a Cable modem
    My goal:
to record tv shows (Scheduled) during the night on my imac, and, when i wake up in the morning, just copy the shows that i recorded to my jump drive or hard drive and take them to work with me.
I dont have much time in the morning, so, i want to make sure that there is no encoding needed. I want to just be able to wake up, get the TV shows that i recorded, and copy them straight over to my data storage.
Am I looking at the right thing?
    http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvhybrid
And, one more thing. If I buy this, does this come with everything I need? I would hate to open the package, only to find out that there were other things I should have purchased with it.
the source that i am going to be recording from is Coaxial Cable. I am just going to run a splitter off my cable modem and hook the coaxial to this unit.
One final question (I promise). Do these devices deliver good quality? I mean, I know I am only going to be able to get the quality that the coaxial cable will deliver, but, will this device preserve it at least?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Gary

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Have a look at some of the offerings from Elgato, too, grego. The model you need depends on what sort of service you have (digital or analogue etc), but they have something that suits just about all needs. Their software is excellent.

  • Recording cassette tape to iMac

    Hi there!
I am trying to convert a cassette player into digital form through QuickTime.  Whenever recording it sounds great except for an annoying echo.  Any tips on how to alleviate this??
    Thanks!

Right now I am plugging a cassette tape player into my iMac using a 3.3mm audio cable.  I'm plugging it into the "Line In" port.  I am then hitting play on the tape player and recording a new audio file in QuickTime.  I've also tried this in GarageBand.  In both programs the audio sounds pretty good except for an annoying echo.  I'm hoping there is a way to eliminate the echo.
    Thanks!

  • Problems Importing LPs and other recorded music to my iMac

    Hi All
I am trying to import my vinyl LPs and other music to my iMac using my JVC MIDI System with a record dec attached. The only output connection is for a standard jackplug (headphone) socket, other than the cable connection point for stereo speakers (at the rear of the system). I was sold a standard cable with a jackplug at either end and told that by connecting this to the input side of my Mac it should work. This does not seem to regognise any form of imput from my MIDI system can anybody help please!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Martin
Thanks for your response I have only used this forum once before and wasn't tosure what details where relevant. I am also not sure if I can provide answers to all your questions but will do my best;-
It would help if you tell us the exact make & model of the equipment you are using.
    Your Mac? -IMac 11,1
What JVC MIDI system? Unfortunately it is an old system now and I don't appear to have kept the manual. It is a JVC COMPACT COMPONENT MD SYSTEM MX-MD9R R-D-S EON.
What "record dec?"   Actually, what do you mean by "record dec" in the first place?  Do you mean yourturntable? It is an AIWA PX-E800 turntable which i connect and play through the aux side of the JVC system
Is your JVC MIDI system capable of providing the RIAA EQ for vinyl LP's? dont know
What software are you using on your Mac to do the recordings? ITunes 11.0.2
In general, I wouldn't use a MIDI device for recording analog audio.  They weren't intended for that purpose.
    Thanks for your help Paul

  • Recording dvds onto an imac from a Sky HD box

    Dear apple afficionados
We have recently installed a Sky HD box and have recorded quite a few programmes that I would like to record onto DVD to keep permanently. We do not have a DVD recorder but my imac has a DVD recording facility. Is it possible to transfer the programmes from the Sky box onto the imac? If so, what equipment would I need? By the way, I am not a very technical minded person but would be willing to have a go if the instructions are easy to follow.
Thanks in advance for any advice - even to say it isn't possible.
    Anne

    Hi
Unfortunately, cable and satellite boxes generally encrypt their contents to prevent you making the kind of copies you're talking about. It's possible that some of the programs are unencrypted; you could locate your box's model number (it's probably manufactured by a third party, not Sky themselves) and see if there are any online forums with information about it.

I need to record some live sound onto my iMac model M6411 (graphite toilet seat).
