Recording internal / onboard audio
Hello all, Although I've found a lot of info here I just haven't found an answer that works for me. What I would like to do is record any type of internal audio that is playing. When I use SnapzPro X to capture a movie I will get the audio if iTunes is open and some music is playing like from an Internet radio station or from music stored on my harddrive or if some stored music is playing from just a Finder window. But if I try to capture some audio with Audacity(which will do this on my Windows machine), QTPro 7, Soundtrack, or Garageband I get nothing. If I try it with Garageband I can hear a popping sound during the capture but the popping sound doesn't record. So, is there anyway to capture some internal / onboard audio with any of the software I've listed above. I'm almost positive that I've done this in the past but I'm having no luck now. Other that OS upgrades the only thing that has changed lately is a new video card, ATI Radeon 9600 w/ 256MB Ram PC/Mac Edition.
G4 Dual 1Ghz MDD Mac OS X (10.4.5) 2GB Ram
Just a quick follow-up. Today at work I was able to capture onboard audio with Audacity by using a male to male mini cable and looping from the audio out into the audio in port of my Powermac G5. I didn't spend a lot of time with it but basically I captured some Internet radio as a test. It sounded OK for what it was. So maybe that's not the best way but it will work in a pinch. I also sent in a purchase request for multiple seats of Audio Hijack Pro.

Do movie recording with INTERNAL SYSTEM AUDIO [soundflower doesnt help in this case]
Hi, I used to use a screen capturing program called Snapz Pro X. What I liked to do was record myself playing guitar / singing etc. I had my audio come from Logic during the capture so I could have effects on the mic as well as have multiple tracks. I basically opened up photobooth and screen captured the video from there, and used the audio capture to get the Logic audio. For some reason Snapzpro won't let me record internal systme audio anymore so I tried to switch to something else.
I see on this new quicktime you can record video similar to photobooth. When I go to the settings, I only see you can choose microphone. You cant capture system audio. So I downloaded soundflower to re route it. When I do a video record and play something like iTunes it works in the render, but I cant hear the music playing as it is in the recording process. This is the main problem for me.
I want to use soundflower to be able to record whatever audio is coming out of Logic Pro and just use Quicktimes isight for the video. If I change my Logic pro pref in audio output to soundflower and record it works BUT you cant hear audio WHILE recording doing this.
So I basically cant hear anything while recording which defeats the purpose. Keep in mind im not recording anything in logic at all. Im just capturing the audio from the program.
How can I record in a program like photobooth or quicktime for the video part and then be able to have the captured audio from logic pro in it?
And by the way, I am not interested in recording separate things and then combining them in post. I want something quick and easy I can do right on the fly.
ThanksI realized why Snapz Pro audio isnt working now. I just recently got an audio interface, the "Duet 2" from Apogee. I use it to plug in microphones and guitars into my computer.
I just did a test with the in and outputs set to the mbp and the audio worked fine. When I plugged in my interface and tried to capture audio with Snapz Pro, it crashes everytime. I guess it just can't work together.
Screen capturing the isight window is kind of a crumby process to do what I want to do.
If anyone can figure out a way to record video directly from quicktime or photobooth and use the soundflower audio for logic please let me know...it seems like a better process
Thanks -
Unable to record internal audio with RecordMyDesktop
In order to record sound and video from my desktop, I installed RecordMyDesktop (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/RecordMyDesktop) and followed the instructions from post #4 and #6 on a thread about "Recording internal audio with alsa and recordmydesktop" (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1359593). When I try to record with "recordmydesktop --device looprec", it will not start recording and closes with the following error:

I can record from the microphone with with the command "recordmydesktop". I succeeded in recording the internal audio with audacity by choosing the device "looprec" for recordings. I'm not sure why RecordMyDesktop gives an error while Audacity does not. Below is my ~/.asoundrc, which I copied from the aforementioned thread. I am not knowledgeable, but I guess there is a mistake in it? Would you please assist me solving this error? Thank you for your time.

Recording Internal Audio?
Hi, sorry if this is a newbish question, but it is possible to record internal audio from the macbook air's speakers? (ex: the audio from a certain part of a video on youtube) I've tried Quicktime Pro and Audacity, but both use the external microphone, so I can hear myself cough, but not the audio from the computer. On windows there was an option in sound to switch to built in audio which would allow a program like camstudio to record the internal audio, is this possible on mac?

How do I record internal audio to garageband for ipad2? I want to record from a drum machine app to garageband.
I dont believe you can do that directly. You would need to record the audio separately and then import
-
I have Logic Pro 9.1.6
Can someone explain the process for recording the click as audio so I can export it with the other tracks?
Someone suggested routing the click to an open bus, and then just hit record, but I haven't been successful trying that. Maybe I don't understand the routing?
I would think this would be something that others need to do as well?Hi
It should not matter to record 'internally' via a bus as discussed.
If you do not have an external audio interface, set the Input device to be "Built-In: Line Input" and you should be good to go
CCT
Edit:
You may need to reset the Input device to your "usual" setting to return to your 'Normal' setup.
Note also, you will need to click on 'Apply Changes' at the bottom of the Preferences pane

Audition CS6 and onboard Audio
I notice that the requirements for Audition CS6 contain a:
Sound card compatible with ASIO protocol or Microsoft WDM/MM
I did a search on here, and I saw that some people are using onboard audio for CS5.5, but I wasn't sure how cs6 would handle this? I'm not going to be doing intense audio editing - simply some of the ADR syncing tools and maybe filtering out background noise.
I attempted to check different motherboards to see if it said anything about the sound on the board being compatible with ASIO protocol or Microsoft WDM/MM, but no luck. It really doesn't appear too often, except when I look at sound cards in the $100+ range.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!Yeah, Audition CS6 works fine with the driver type set to MME, then using an onboard sound interface (in my case, on my laptop, a Realtek). I'd never use it for any recording purposes but just for manipulating existing stuff I've yet to find a drawback--I do theatre work and sometimes do this for a quick edit or whatever without hooking up one of my external ASIO interfaces.
Actually, I just thought of one minor drawback--if you want to use the same session on two different sound interfaces, you have to reset the hardware set up screen each time you change--but this isn't a biggy and can be minimised by using "Save As" and a different name if it you don't need all the changes available in both places. -
I have a MB with onboard SPDIF for HDMI. When I install my extrememusic card it takes over and doesn't allow HDMI audio output anymore. But I want the extrememusic card for digital audio input (video capture) And the onboard audio for the SPDIFoutput (HDMI). Is there a way to use both the card and the onboard audio for these purposes?
It's quite hard to advice without having the equal system in hands.
Which one you have set to be as the preferred playback device and preferred recording device in system audio settings? Maybe onboard for playback and X-Fi for recording is maybe the way to go but, I can't say if this changes anything there?
X-Fi also has Audio Creation Mode which is maybe the best for this type input connection ... use bit-matched mode if possible and ASIO.
Depends on what you want to do there but, there are also some software you could use for to route signal from one card into other if this would be a sort of resolution (Virtual Audio Cable/Repeteater and Velbac comes into mind ... you should find links for these by searching this forum).

Record Video+external audio+system audio
I need to record a movie with:
- Input from my firewire Camcorder
- Input from my external audio interface
- Input from GarageBand output
Till now I just find two ways of doing it:
1.
- Record audio in GarageBand and video in Quicktime at the same time
- Sync both recordings (with Quicktime or ImovieHD)
2.
- Open a Quicktime movie recording
- Start a screen video capture applicaton (with option to record system audio) and select the quicktime window to record
- Start recording
- Go to GarageBand and start playing
- Switch to Quicktime screen and realy start my recording
- Trim the unwanted initial video recorded.
Unfortnately both workflows are just tricks to do something that is no directly achieved by the applications. In the end it takes double the time to record a movie than it should take.
Is there any way to record with Quicktime a movie and at the same time both internal and external audio?
Is there another application to do it? I have search many applications and it seems that only screencapture apps can record internal sound. I have heard of wirecast but is too expensive (400$).Although the application seems very interesting how can it help me since it does not record video?
I have no problem in recording audio in GarageBand, the problem is recording in sync audio and video so I don't have later to mix and sync both flows.
Maybe my question is not clear. -
FIS2R 1.4 - No onboard Audio?!?
For some reason, the onboard audio card is not showing up in my devices menu. I try to run SoundMax install, but it claims the driver is not found. AC'97 is set to AUTO in the BIOS. I don't understand why it's not showing up in the device panel for me to install the drivers for....
I'm frustrated... any suggestions?Okay....
Looks like the BIOS will automatically disable the onboard audio when another multimedia card is detected. This stinks b/c I have a professinal recording audio card that I use when making music, but use the regular onboard audio card for normal windows. I'd like to use it's surround capabilities as well, but I don't want to have to pop in and out my other card when I want to record.
Unfortunately, the BIOS only allows a setting of AUTO or DISABLE. There is no hard ENABLE for those who want more than one audio device in their system. This is an oversight to me. Is there somewhere that I can suggest to MSI to add an ENABLE always option for the onboard audio? -
KT3 Ultra2 onboard audio not recognized by win 98SE
I have a KT3 Ultra2 MB with the onboard audio enabled in BIOS and running Win98SE. I installed the drivers from the driver disk and followed all the prompts from windows. The device is listed under system and multimedia devices. But windows itself does not recognize that the device exists for playing sounds, recording et al. Multimedia properties says there is no playback device. Sound recorder sees no device. Volume control does not come up at all. The MSI sound manager will not open at all. I downloaded the latest drivers from the website, but there are no instructions as to how to install them, they just expand into a collection of files with no readme.
Silent in TexasReintalling Win98se certainly didn't do the trick for me. I've spent two days installing, trying a few changes, re-installing, trying something else, reinstalling. I even tried removing all my cards except the video but the problem was identical every try.
Can you think of anything special you did during or after the re-install that did the trick? Do you remember versions that you were using and where you got them? This may be a case of the latest drivers being worse than some earlier ones, or some combination of older chipset, newer audio or something crazy.
Speaking of the failed POST, I had a thing with a different MSI board a while ago, where it wouldn't hold the BIOS settings. Every so often (if it was unplugged for a few hours) it would reset (as if the RTC Reset had been jumpered and the checksum was off). If your video card was AGP, and the BIOS reset itself to "primary video = PCI" it might look like nothing was happening on boot up.
I admit that I am about ready to pitch this board too, (or try to return it at least). -
Unable to Use Onboard Audio with Nvidia GPU since Linux 3.4
I am currently stuck using linux 3.3.8-1 along with nvidia 295.49-1, because I don't know how to workaround the kernel disabling MSI for snd-hda-intel. This module is used by both the Nvidia HDMI audio and the ALC880 onboard audio. Previously, I have been able to disable HDMI audio to be able to use the onboard audio, but now I don't know what to do. I have attempted to use "options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1" when modprobing on boot, which gets rid of the "hda_intel: Disabling MSI" message but it hasn't given me a working onboard audio output.
I have also used the following command along with enable_msi=1 (found here: http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Document … HOWTO.txt) in my rc.local
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:00\:1b.0/msi_bus
Of course, it is my assumption that the kernel disabling MSI is the cause of the problem, but it might be something else. Please let me know if any additional logs would be helpful.

How do I stream music from non-iTunes apps to Airport (mac air core-i7 OS 10.7.5 airport firmware 7.6.1 --- option-clicking speaker icon only shows internal speakers - audio streaming works from iTunes just fine.
Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

Added sound card, no onboard audio no more
i added an sb live value for the use of the joystick port only, not wanting to use ti as a sound card. the onboard audio of my 865pe neo2 fis2r msi 6728 no longer works. so how can i get back my onboard audio? my speakers are still plugged into the onboard. is this even posible? to use onboard audio, but use my joystick on the sb live card when playing games? or is it only one or the other? do i need to go into the bios maybe and tell it to use onboard audio? like maybe it changed cus of the new sb live value card?
ok, i hooked up my speakers to the sb live card, it's fine i guess , but is it possible to use onboard audio with joystick port only from the live card? or because i have a sound card installed now, does that totally disable onboard completely unless i removed the live card?Yep No is the Answer, Because as soon as Windows Sees that you have a PCI sound card, it will not allow the Onboard sound chips Drivers to Load upon Bootup, I cant believe that you went through the Trouble of Installing a Sound Card that has a "MIDI" port, Instead of just Getting a USB Joystick , as the New USB Joysticks are Much more Responsive and Support Many More Games, and You can Get one For Less $ then you Paid for the Soundblaster .....Sean REILLY875

Can't recording Midi and Audio at the same time
I'm in GREAT need of help. I can't record midi and audio at the same time. I'm using an M AUDIO project mix I/O. I know this is VERY basic stuff but I can't seem to get it to work.I can record multiple audio at once. ANd I can record midi but not at the same time. PLEASE help . Is there a setting somewhere I need to change ? Thanks
TracyHi!
Enable all audio tracks (R) you wish to record. Then make sure you select the audio instrument you are using on the left of the arrange page (track list). If you here your input, hold shift, then highlight (gray) the mentioned audio tracks you wish to record on. When R is red, and the proper tracks are grey, you can record. Hope that made sense!
