Recording into logic from my MPC 1000

Does any one know how to record into logic with an MPC 1000. I've got sync but cant figure out how to get a level.

well the easier way is maybe to transfer ur sample and program to logic via floppy(then u need a floppy drive).or via aksys(then u need the usb option slot on mpc.don't even know if it exist!?).or transfer what u wand digitaly via the coaxial output of the mpc to the optical in of ur mac(then u need a coax2optic converter, and i hope u own a g5 for the optical in)
seriously it's difficult to answer ur question cause there is many different way .u should give more info.
wich mac?
do u have any soundcard?
do u have any optional card output on the mpc?
is there a built in coaxial on the mpc?
did u receive a soft call A.K.S.Y.S with the mpc?
in this particular case u should have a usb port or at least an optional usb card?
etc

I want to record a four bar drum beat, bass line..etc
Also, I have some existing beats that i made on my MPC before I got Logic that I would like to transfer over to logic. Any thoughts on how to record into logic from my MPC? I can't seem to get any level even though I've got sync.

  • Logic Express and MPC 1000

Does anyone know how to dump beats from an MPC 1000 into logic? How do you get the sounds from the MPC onto logic and how do you record?

I think the best is to sync both with Midi Time Code (check your manual at page 451) and then, record your MPC into a stereo audio track.

  • Is it possible to record into logic...

Hello everyone, this would be my very first post asking for help.
here's our problem. We've been using logic for years, we have just recently purchased Digi HD2 accel system, with a digi 192 I/O, and Control 24.
is it possible to record into logic using this setup? if so, how do we go about setting up logic to be able to do this?
the only we have been able top get sound out of logic thru the 192 an control 24, is by using CoreAudio drivers. The ESB does not get us any sound.
    anyone familiar with this setup?
    thanks
    jz

I guess we'd like to record using TDM within logic. Right now we get sound if we use the Coreaudio drivers, but don't know how to input using Control 24. If we could get advise on how to do it using both Coreaudio and TDM, it would help us greatly.
    thanks

  • Recording audio into  logic from a rewire application

Im using logic 8, but im about to have 9.Is there a way to record audio in from a rewire application, in my case Reason 4.Im able to run sound through it,and out of the main mix. But cant figure out how to record onto a track for later use and manipulation.Any help would be great. Thanks

In your mixer: options> new Aux. channel strip, set input to Reason channel (#,#). In Reason don't use the 14:2 mixer, but hook everything up to the hardware interface. If you do go through the 14:2 everything in Reason will be on one track in Logic (Mix L/R in the Reason input menu).
Then in Logic, either change the ouput of that channel, or set up a send, to a bus (say 1).
Then create an Audio track in the arrange window, and set the input to bus 1.
That gives you a track with the Reason part recorded as an audio file.

  • Recording into logic 8 with a usb mic

    Hi guys
I sorry for this very noobish question but up until now I've been doing all my recording and production in GB and I finally decided to take the plunge into Logic.
How do I record voice via a usb mic that is connected to my mac?
I'm looked and looked and I just cant seem to figure it out.
    Thanks very much
    G

Yes aggregate device... I had a Samson C01U USB mic... I could never... no matter what I did... or tried get good recordings without long latency out of that device... After 5 minutes it would start to garble. A reset of the audio units would give me another 5 minutes... Never could get latency down... I gave up and I use regular mic into my firewire Duet now.

  • Help. I cannot record into Logic express 8!!!!

Sup people. I am having trouble recording in Logic 8 express. I have checked the setting of the computer and yes My audio interface (alesis multimix firewire) is set as the input and output device. I can record sound in to garage band. I can do a test and see the meters go up and down in the systems preference sound settings, but I can't record a **** thing from external audio. Can anyone who is using logic 8 help me and maybe give me somethings I haven't thought about? I'm about to pull my hair out cuz I just got logic 8 express and this program is great. Oh, and yes I set the audio in logic to software monitoring. Yes I pressed the R button to arm the track for recording. Yes I pressed the I for input monitoring. Anyways.....SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

I assume you're hitting the round RECORD button in the Transport window, after arming the track, and not the arrow button? I've made THAT mistake too many times.
I'm assuming you've selected audio tracks (not MIDI), if you're recording audio -- made that mistake a few times, too.
I'm using the Alesis, too. I'll try to remember all my trial-and-error lessons and see if I come up with something else.
A few things coming to me....I did need to reinstall the Alesis drivers. On first attempt, there were several glitches, until I did the re-install. And....as mentioned earlier....powering up with the Alesis is most important....and appropriate settings in the Audio/MIDI Setup utility....and consistent settings between that utility and Logic PREFERENCES & SETTINGS: e.g. 44.1khz--44.1khz, or 48-48, etc. Sorry if this is rudimentary, but they're all mistakes I've made at one time or another.

  • Syncing issues with Logic and Akai MPC 1000

I followed the directions in the manual and even some advice on another forum related to MPC's, but I still keep having problems whether I sync as Logic being Master or Slave.
When I sync Logic as Master the Tracks are kept in time with each other but they are not syncing to the grid in Logic right. It's a little off even though I set a few blank bars at the beginning of the sequence I wanted to record, and set the the tempo in Logic to the exact same tempo on the MPC. When I go to copy and paste certain bars while arranging it's always off cause the tracks are not in time with the bars in the arrange window. I want the tracks to be in time with the grid so it is much easier to copy, paste and arrange.
When I try to sync Logic as Slave...I can't even get it to work at all. The transport location just seems to jog in place. The last digits in the transport just keeps repeating themselves but no others, and there is no movement of the play head. It's just stuck. I don't know why it's doing that. When I try to sync Logic as slave I make sure the MPC is NOT in slave mode whatsoever, and that Logic isn't sending (as far as I know) any Master info to the MPC, so I really don't understand why it locks up.
I'd really appreciate help in getting this sorted out as soon as possible.

Ok, so I checked the SMPTE offset. I switched it so it will start at 00:00:00:00 or what have you. Good news is that the play head is no longer stuck. The first time I tried this I got an error message saying "System Overload. The Audio Engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)" after about 8-10 bars of recording.
Next time I tried this I did I stereo pass of one track and it worked perfect. It recorded the whole sequence and the sync was perfect. It was only that one time. Now I can't even get the empty initial bars to go through without getting that error.
What is happening with this? I should have a powerful enough computer. I have a 2.2 ghz Intel core 2 duo Macbook pro, 2 gigs of ram, os 10.4.11

  • Can't record into Logic through the built-in mike

Hi guys, just faced a strange thing in Logic 8, want to record my voice through my MacbookPro's internal mike, so in Audio preferences I've put an in-built input, in System preferences put input and output to in-built speakers and mike, but I can't move the track level meter in Logic with my voice at all, and there's no waveform, no sound is going inside, i got just an empty audio region, while in the System's preferences window the level meter moves when I'm saying sth...What can it be?Anyone faced the same?
    Thank you

you need to select the build in microphone as the input in Logic Audio preferences as well.
it's the 1st on the drop down menu in Input Device Logic's Audio prefs.
And mute the output of the build in speakers or wear headphones

  • Im loosing the 'punch' when i record beats into Logic.

    Hi.
I record beats into Logic from my MPC which could be the 2 track out or 8 separate outs.
What me and others with the same setup as me are saying is that the beat looses a certain puch and sound to it when we record it into logic. It sounds different playing back in logic than it does on the mpc. The outputs from the mpc go directly into separate channels on my interface and therefore i would think that there would be no difference in sound.
There is a lack of warmth. I dont know whether any of you could offer me any advice or its just a logic audio conversion thing???? Im not sure
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Ben

I and others have also heard this. My opinion is that it's something to do with recording at 24-bit, that makes the sound clearer and wider, but it's not as punchy as a 16-bit recording of the same thing. Unfortunately, this goes against what the entire industry wants us to believe, so I'm not expecting any help with this issue soon since most people will deny it exist.
Try recording your tracks into a small audio app like Peak or Soundforge that allows you to record at 16-bit. (I'm not sure turning off 24-bit recording in Logic does this)...
..then import the 16b tracks into a Logic project (at 44.1 khz), and export to CD....you should notice your "punchy" base is back again.
Sorry I can't help other than to say I, and others, hear it too, and we're all trying to figure out what to do about it.

  • Logic pro 8 with akai mpc 1000!

I would like to know if I can use the drums sounds in logic with an mpc 1000. I would feel better using the pads on the machine to create a drum beat instead of a mouse. Plus it might save me time and $ to look for the drums.
    any suggestions?

I went into system preferences and put in the input to the audio interface, and the output to the headphones that I was using. Within system preferences, when I hit the pads it indicated that there were levels, however I still couldn't hear any sound.
You were in System Preferences > Sound > Input, and you were watching the meter there. Watching that meter is a good way to confirm that your MPC is producing audio, and that your audio interface is properly conveying that audio into your computer. However, the controls in this window are generally irrelevant to Logic. These controls are mostly relevant when you are working with programs like iTunes and Quicktime Player. To get audio in and out of Logic, you have to create the proper settings inside Logic. Those settings inside Logic are here: Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio > Devices > Core Audio. Look at the Device menu. This is where you have to make sure your FireWire Solo audio interface is selected. Is it?
And then attach your headphones to the FireWire Solo, not to your Mac.
Create a new project in Logic, and create an audio track, and make sure that track is record-enabled (click R in the track header). That's all you should have to do. Hit the pads on the MPC, and you should hear it in your headphones, and you should see meters lighting up in Logic.
This should work if you haven't changed any other Logic settings from their defaults. If it doesn't work, there are a few other simple things to check.
You may eventually want to create a midi connection between Logic and the MPC, and not just an audio connection. But you can worry about that later.

  • Cant record into to logic pro 9 using samson l1200 live mixer, System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control

Hi Im new to this so bare with me..When I connect my Samson l1200 live usb mixer to my Imac 7,1 Intel duo core 3gb ram, osx10.6.8, via usb cable to record vocals/instruments, in System Pref/Audio/Output tab is set to mixer's UsbAudioCodec driver, (Im able to hear playback into headphones via the mixer, and hear the mic when spoken into it but cant record a track into Logic...System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control, Ive set the input/output settings in Logic to UsbAudioCodec but still no good...Would it be either the way the mixer is set up? or is this mixer (Samson l1200) not compatible with my particular Imac? I hope I may be able to help as Im only a student trying to record my band thanks

    I perfectly understand your problem.
First... just to make sure, in Logic's preferences /Audio make sure Universal Track Mode IS checked, it should be enabled. (I think it probably is just checking)
Second... if you record a track in a new Logic project and then go to the next track to record an overdubbed guitar part, are both parts recorded on the 2nd track?
What I'm asking is overdubbing working differently for two or three recorded tracks as opposed to overdubbing with an imported track.
What I think is happening is you have the main stereo output being recorded into Logic so if you playback an imported or recorded track from Logic while recording a 2nd track (overdub), both are going to be recorded on the 2nd track.
I took a look at the manual, here's the relevant sections.
34 – SEND – USB input send switch
The USB INPUT switch allows you to select one of
two stereo (or two channel) signal paths to feed the
USB output to send to the connected PC. When the
INPUT switch is in the up position, the USB signal will
feed from the MAIN left right mix. When the INPUT
switch is in the down position, the USB signal will
feed from the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buses which enables
you to create a unique mix to send to the PC.
    35 – RETURN – USB return switch
The USB RETURN switch allows you to select one of
two stereo return paths to receive USB audio from
the connected PC. When the ASSIGN switch is in the
up position, the USB signal will return to the MAIN
mix bus. When the ASSIGN switch is in the down
position, the USB signal will return to the last pair
of stereo channels which enables you to playback a
recorded track in the MAIN mix, and you can use the
channels AUX sends to feed any of the AUX buses.
This will let you hear the USB playback tracks in the
    monitor mixes.
36 – MONITOR – USB headphone enable switch
Press the USB MONITOR switch down if you want
to hear the signal from the USB return in the
    headphones.

  • HELP recording with behringer xenyx 2442fx into Logic??

    Hey,
So i recently got a Behringer XENYX 2442FX mixer and I am trying to record drums into Logic pro.
The mixer came with a usb interface which takes two red & white L R cables.
I am trying to record into Logic however from reading other things online I'm starting to doubt that that is possible?
If anyone could give me help asap it'd be greatly appreciated as If i need to send the mixer back and get something else that will work, i'll need to do that quickly!
    thanks again

If this is how it hooks up... then no.. you cant seperate the drums with it because your coming out of a feed that is the stereo track.. into the interface... theres no possible way with that set up that it could seperate the tracks out. You just need an interface with enough I/O's to feed into logic.. like a Motu... then you just need a mixing board that you can use to control logic and I think that would be ideal for recording drums.. but really if you dont mind mixing in the computer you dont even need the mixing board to record the drums if you have a sizeable interface... anyways.. thats my 2 cents.. hope that helps a lil
