Recording LPs on my Macbook

(I was able to do this on my PC, but it was a royal pain in the butt to drag my turntable and receiver in the office, hook it up, and blah, blah, blah.)
Is there a way to record my analog LPs to save into iTunes and thereby transfer them onto my iPod? I did this on my PC through programs such as Roxio and Nero, but wasn't sure if there was an easier, more direct way through my new Mac without having to purchase or download more software. Sure would like to be able to do this on my portable, so I don't have to haul the turntable into my office anymore.
Many thanks!

  • Record television show to Macbook Pro

    Hey everyone.
There is a show tomorrow on my television and I really want to record it to my Macbook Pro.
I don't know how to record from tv to my Macbook Pro. It's my first time.
    I just got my Macbook, a tv and this mini-display port(Mini-Displayport-Male-to-Male-Cable-with-Gold-Plated-up-to-10-8gbps-Video-Bandwi dth.jpg)
Do I need some software or some cable or some other thing to do this recording?
I really want the easiest and cheapiest method to this recording.
    thank you.

If you read the website, the instructions are there.
In a nutshell, you need to purchase a TV tuner and the software.  The tuner is inserted in a USB port and connected to cable or an external TV antenna via a coaxial cable.  The software will allow you to record a TV program which creates a file.  That file can be viewed again and if you wish, edited to remove sections that one might not want.  It will record and play HD TV.
I have a slightly older version of this:

  • Transfer Records onto Computer using MacBook?

    Hello,
I have a lot of old records, and an old record player. I just bought a brand new MacBook (the standard MacBook, not the Pro). It is the 2.16 ghz black MacBook with 2 gigs of RAM.
I am wondering if it is possible to transfer my old records onto the computer using Garage Band. If so, do I need any intermediary hardware device?
I tried to just plug the record player into the MacBook using the Audio Input port, but all I get is quiet static when it is playing. I no longer have a working stereo system to test the record player, so unfortunatly, that may be why this isn't working, but I just wanted to see if there was anything other than a faulty player that could cause these problems.
    Thanks in advance.

    JosephSites wrote:
what was suggested there is what I've tried from my end in Garage Band. So it could possibly be a faulty record player.
Well actually, no, one of the first things it says is that you can not just plug a turntable into your Mac.

  • Voice recording on a 2011 MacBook Pro?

How do I make a voice recording on a 2011 MacBook Pro?

I've upgraded the same model to Mavericks without any issues or problems. If you are worried, then make a backup before you upgrade. Simple enough precaution. If you find you cannot access your external data drives, then erase the internal drive and restore your backup. You can make a cloned backup using the Restore option in Disk Utility which will also clone the Recovery HD that you would need should you decide to restore the backup.

  • Software for recording LPs

I'm searching for a decent program for recording LPs and transferring them to CD through iTunes. I had a good program on my PC that had excellent scratch and pop filters, but it doesn't work with OS X. Any recommendations for good, not-too-expensive programs? Must connect via a stereo cable from my stereo system.

I wanted to run the files through a scratch and pop filter if possible
Final Vinyl has some good filters when you import before adding to iTunes. It's easy to get carried away with the filters so don't attempt to do too much.
    before committing them to CD
Getting them onto the computer is the difficult part (and it's not really that difficult).
In iTunes, burning a CD is as simple as creating a playlist then click Burn.
You can tweak the files as much/little as you want before you burn them to a CD.
"Committing them to CD" sounds so final. If you don't like it, you can always burn another.

  • Recording DVD in the Macbook

I want to know if I can record a DVD movie in my Macbook and then record the movie in a DVD blank disc?

Yes; you can use iDVD to make and burn the movie. If it will contain footage from a digital camera, iMovie can be used to import it. Both applications are located in the Applications folder on your hard disk.
If you want to duplicate an existing DVD which doesn't have any copy protection, follow the instructions in this article.

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.
    OS X Recovery
    OS X Recovery (2)
When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

  • Recording audio with the macbook

    HOWDY HO EVERBODY!!!
is there anybody out there who is using their macbook to record audio?i'd really like to know the results/problems.for those of you out there who do use computer based audio recording software, and r using pro tools in particular,pt version 7.1.1 was released yesterday!
(you can download it at the 'compatibility' section of the digidesign user conference/duc).this update is for the new intel core duo processers, making pro tools compatible with all iMacs, mac minis and macbook pros.it says in the digidesign website that macbooks are not yet qualified for the software update, but there r a few ppl on the duc that hav already tried the software on their macbooks.i just ordered my macbook last week (1.83)and i can't wait!!

I use garage band from iLife '05 side by side with ProTools mBox 6.4 on my eMac and stuck there because I have to pay extra for upgrade to 6.7. So I wait until I really need newer Protools for my Black Mac Book, and if I need it I might go with mBox 2.
I just got my Mac Book yesterday so I haven't play with garage band on that, but you cannot depend on built in mike to capture the audio for sure because of the unwanted environment ambience that also captured by that mike or captured mac book fan and noise. Invest a dedicated decent mike for that.

  • Recording LPs with smart recorder and sound quality off.....

    Hi,
I have X-Fi Extreme music card on my PC and trying to record some LPs with SmartRecorder. These are classical LPs and I find that when played back, the orchestra (violins, choir, etc) sound like this was recorded in a tin can. Any ideas why this would be? I connected all my cables accordingly and?am still?getting this problem.

Which type of connection are you using there?
Do you have preamp stage w/ RIAA there before soundcard (you have connected the PC into your stereo system just the way
like you connect a casette recorder or you have connected your turntable w/ RIAA preamp directly into soundcard) or
have you connected your turntable (w/o RIAA + preamp) directly into soundcard?
If you're using the latter method, you need to have EQ w/ RIAA compensation added into signal (you need some ASIO/VST
capable recording software which allows you add FXs into signal (Hermann Seib's VSTHost) and an EQ capable for
    compensation curve +20dB (20Hz) - -20 dB (20 kHz) (ddmf:IIEQ). It's possible that you
can't get levels set high enough w/o adding some gain plug-in into signal path. You can use Sonalksis FreeG VST (stereo)
for this (in VSTHost, place (route) the FreeG either after or before the EQ (try which works better for you)).
Also, check if the recording source is set correctly (w/ "What U Hear" option you get all added effects added
into signal (EAX, CMSS) so it's best to set input as Line-In) and turn all effects OFF.
If you record into lossy format as mp3 or wma, check that the bitrate is set high enough (I suggest you use bitrates
256 - 320). Also, do not use addons like Chrystalizer, etc..
    If needed some software, http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showpost.php?p=282263&postcount=7

  • Recording LPs with Intel iMac

I want to digitize my LPs, 45s, and 78's onto CDs and MP3 files. I have seen in Consumer Reports that this is possible with a special turntable and software. Before I invest, does anyone have any insights or recommendations for doing this?

As has been said if you have lots to do, or value your vinyl steer clear of those USB decks.
Absolutely. If you have a vinyl collection worth preserving, you probably also have a better turntable, phono cartridge and phono preamp than could be expected in an integrated turntablecartridge+preamp+A2DUSB package. Much better to use your existing audio system and spend your money on a higher quality audio-to-USB interface.
I haven't been shopping for one lately, but a quick "google USB audio" found this VERY interesting candidate. $125 from amazon.com. (As usual, the German site has the most complete specs.):

A 24-bit A-to-D is a huge plus for working with stuff like vinyl LPs. You can set the recording level very conservatively (to avoid digital overload), and still be assured of getting at least 16-bit (CD-quality) dynamic range.
I have no experience with this product, but TASCAM is the pro-audio division of TEAC, and has been a major player in the recording industry for nearly 40 years. There are also many other USB-audio interfaces -- from big names in audio such as Edirol (Roland), M-Audio, Emu, etc. They're all likely to have much better A-to-D converters than a "USB turntable" -- and a general-purpose USB/audio interface can be used for all sorts of stuff beyond digitizing vinyl.

  • Recording LPs

Hi, I just bought my MacBook today, and I'm completely new to the whole Mac world, so please bear with me. I'm used to recording vinyl on my old PC, so I'm trying to figure out how to record on my new laptop. I'm having trouble getting the input sound to play. I have my stereo receiver plugged into the stereo input jack, and I went to the sound utility and made sure that the input device is selected. The volume meter is showing that it is detecting sound; however, I'm not hearing anything from my speakers, and likewise, I can't get it to record anything in Garageband. Any ideas of something I'm missing?

I too am having trouble importing my vinyl. I have a Stanton STR8-80 digital turntable with SPDIF out. I have connected that to an M-Audio Firewire Solo recording interface, at the recommendation of the guys at The Guitar Center. I have set the 'hardware interface' of the M-Audio control panel to 44,000 Hz sample rate, the sync source to 'external', the spdif output source to 'mixer' and the core audio device settings to 'show Solo's stero pairs as devices.' Under the mixer control panel I see the 'spdif in' panel with the bouncing green bars when I put a record on, but I get nothing out of my computer, and I don't see anything in Garage Band when I try the advice from Bulletsandbones. I have m-audio desktop speakers connected to the headphone out jack on the 24" iMac, and the speakers otherwise work (ie, itunes, etc).
Under the Audio MIDI setup, I have the default input as Firewire Solo S/PDIF 1/2, and both the audio input and output are at 4.1 and the only, pre-selected choice is 2ch-24bit.
However, I can't hear any music, nor see anything in the garage band screen when I select the basic track choice.
Sorry, if complicated, but I am frustrated after spending many weekends trying to get this to work.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • Recording Satelite program to macbook pro

    Hello,
Can I record video/audio from a satelite receiver using it's Dvi/Toslink outputs into a Macbook pro?
Does Apple have any type of software to support this?
Could I have the Laptop wake up at a certain time and record whats coming in from it's Inputs, to a certain folder?
It seems silly to me to buy a PVR when Apple is so Media friendly.
    thanks for your help,
    Vance

Are you putting that mic in front of an amp? You should specify what that "good (expensive) mic" is (condenser? dynamic), but you'll probably have an even harder problem getting its sound into the computer, since mic level is lower than line level.
I'd suggest trying to plug the Strat in directly and play with GB's amp models. If you can't get enough level, you should pre-amp the guitar, for example with a mixing console, or get an audio interface.

  • Recording external camera to macbook pro

I have a Canon Vixia camcorder connected to my MacBook Pro by HDMI through a Blackmagic converter.
I would like to record video directly to my harddrive.
I tried Photo Booth and it sees video from my internal webcam.  The Blackmagic shows up under Camera, but no picture.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • In-car video recording straight to my Macbook

I fancy getting some in-car video while at the nurburgring this weekend. I was looking at camcorders and mounts, which seemed like the obvious solution. However, it struck me as preferable to store straight to a digital format, as I'd be viewing the footage on my laptop (so only looking for "decent" quality recording). I then took this line of thought a step further and wondered if I could use my Macbook and record straight to that, with some sort of "bullet cam" fitted.
Which leads me to a few questions; is this potentially a good idea? Is there a plug-in decent quality camera available? What software will I need (I'm new to macs - do I already have it (Leopard))? Is a Macbook up to it?
Your comments would be much appreciated.

I had thought it was only handhold cameras that they banned, but a friend clarified this morning that it was in fact all cameras. So it seems if you don't want to get caught then "bullet cams" are the way to go. These seem increasingly common though, so I'm sure there's a suitable camera - just need to know if/how to connect directly to my macbook and if so how and what do I need?
