Recording midi from an external device

When I record a midi pattern from an external groovebox into logic the pattern slows down during the recording and goes out of time.
I have the external device set to "mid slave" so it should be using Logics midi clock.
any help would be much appreciated!

the slower machine must be used as master
The groovebox is slower than Logic....
I hope that it is able to send MMC.
use Logic as Slave... or do the recording without sync
you will be able to adjust the BPM in Logic manually after recording

  • To solo a track from an external device

I'm from Germany... so, sorry for my english...
Is it possible in Adobe Audition 3 to solo a track over an external device, maybe a midi keyboard?
I tried it with midi trigger and shortcuts, but I can only make solo next track/solo previous track! I can't switch directly between track 1 and track 3 for example.
Finally, i want to have maybe 4 buttons on an external device for solo track 1, solo track 2, solo track 3 and so on.
I hope you understand, what I want to do.
Have someone an idea how I could realize it?
    thanks

Is the Camera Connection only good for pics or can you download files?
The Camera Connection Kit is for connecting cameras (hence the name) - it will only allow transfer of pictures and videos, not arbitrary files.
Is there another way to download files from an enternal device that doesn't have wireless capabilities?
    No.

  • Recording audio from an external dj set up

I have an old G4 desktop which has a 24 bit soundcard installed so I was able to plug in RCA jacks straight from the PCI soundcard to an external dj set up and record to my hard drive. I now have A G4 Powerbook -15" and I need to know how I can record to the hard disk from my external dj set up since there is no pci slot soundcard. Is there an 1/8th " cable to RCA for this?
    rrrrr

    Ralphie,
There is an 1/8" to RCA wire out there. It is available at Circut City, Good Guys, Guitar Center, Radio Shack, Wal Mart, Target, Car audio places, maybe even Sav-on's and Thrifty's or your local grocery store. It would be the wire used to connect an iPod or Discman to your DJ setup.
I am unsure which model PB you have but, I'm pretty sure all G4's have an Audio line in. You can use the wire to connect your DJ setup to your PB. But, you also need recording software...I'm pretty sure you already knew that. Most likely you can use the same software that you were using on your old Desktop. If not, you can use Pro tools, Pro tools free, Logic, or any other recording software. There are some availible for free at Apple.com and Versiontracker.com.
    Hope this helps

  • Recording audio from an external synth - please help!

    Hi
I have an Alesis audio/midi firewire interface and a korg triton and in logic i have recorded the midi data and now need to record the audio into an audio track.
I solo the midi track and arm the audio track for recording, i have set the audio track for input 1 and when the midi notes are played the audio track responds so i know there is a signal but when i hit record, the midi track plays and the metronome sounds as it goes along but nothing is recorded!
Please could someone tell me what i am doing wrong??
    Thanks in advance
    Nick

So let me clarify what I think you are wanting to do. Are you wanting to control the External Synth with the MIDI data coming out of Logic and then running the audio from the Synth back into Logic as an audio track?

  • How can I get hidden files from an external device with terminal?

Here is my situation. I have an mp3 player that is a Sansa Clipp.  This version has third party firmware installed that not only hides the music files but will not let me copy them at all when I do a straight copy.  All I get are empty folders.  I want to install the actual firmware but first I need to back up the entire contents of the device because essentially I need to wipe the malicious firmware and everything else off the disc in order to to this. This device came from the Bureau of Prisons and is sold to prisoners.  It is basically locked to the hilt and the only way to unlock it officially is to send it to the third party that installed the firmware and pay them $25.  I know that I should be able to use terminal to get the files off of this but so far a  "cp" command has only given me the files that I get when I drag and drop.  The music files seem to be hidden in a partition that I can't access.  Let me know if anyone has any help they can give.  I just need to back up the full contents of the device.  I have instructions on how to wipe it and reinstall but backing up is crucial to this.  Thanks for any help and please ask questions if I haven't made my problem clear enough.

I have know way of knowing whether or not this will copy the data. The device could have some hidden hand-shack.
I assume the Sansa Clipp is a usb connected device.  The method works for a flash drive.  There is a different method for a harddrive..
First, you need to find the name of the device.  Mount the device.

  • Can I use GarageBand to record live from an external soundboard?

My Church Band uses a sound board to play, and have asked me to do a video of the next performance. I want to capture the sound, using the band's soundboard. I can hook that up to my MacBook Air via USB cable. But then what do I do? How do I pipe the music into BG, and record at the same time?
Thanx, I really appreciate ANY help!
    Jamie

Sounds like the soundboard has a usb output, depending on the brand you may need to download some drivers. Then in garageband you will need to choose the soundboard in GarageBand > Preferences > audio midi and choose it for input. Start a real instrument stereo track and you're ready to record.
This is a little over simplified but you can find tutorials under the help menu in garageband or on youtube.

  • Recording Audio from an external source?

I was wondering if it was possible to hook up a cassette player to my G5 and be able to play old tapes and record them in Soundtrack pro then send them over to itunes. The ultimate goal is to get the songs from those cassettes onto an iPod. Someone mentioned software called Audacity but I was wondering if it could be done with STP.

Yeah sure you can use STP to record them, edit, and save to a file that you can import into iTunes.
You just need a way to connect your cassette player to your computer - an interface is usually recommended (the audio inputs on a computer are often problematic). The interface can be as minimal as a Griffin iMic.

  • Send MIDI notes to external device

I used to send midi notes to an external harmonizer in Logic 9 by defining it as an instrument in the environment and cabling its input to the midi keyboard out.
Just tried this on Logic X and the harmonizer isn't receiving MIDI.
    Anyone else?

Hmm.. sorry - rebooted harmonizer - ok now.

  • Macbook Pro recording sound from external radio

    Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how I can record an external digital radio with my Macbook Pro. As a backgrounder, I am able to do it on my old white Macbook because it has a line-in port, so I just connect a 3.5mm cable from the radio to the Macbook and then I have software (Audio Hijack Pro) to hijack and record it.
However, as we all know, the new Macbook Pros have done away with the line-in port. And the Sound options in System Preferences don't seem to have a function allowing me to fiddle with the headphone port (apparently, earlier models had a function in System Preference that allowed you to turn the headphone port into line-in) but this new model doesn't have that option anywhere.
So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether the USB ports or even Thunderbolt can RECEIVE sound from an external device such as a digital radio. I have seen cables that are 3.5mm to USB so I think getting the cable to connect the radio to the Mac is possible, but will it actually receive the sound or just do nothing? Or is there some other way I can record an external device I'm not thinking of, bearing in mind I don't want to use the Mac's microphone to do it, as I will of course get all other ambient sound in the room at the time, and I don't want to rely on an internet stream of said radio.
    Thanks,
    Joe

What if it was a digital radio, would that make things easier by way of using just a 3.5mm to USB cable? Especially because a quick search of a USB Audio Interface brought up some expensive results.
Also, as a possible alternative, after some extensive research online, I've found an iMic USB Audio Device by Griffin that is essentially an adaptor with a USB cable on one end and a Line In port on the other, thus allowing me to connect a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable from the digital radio to the adapter, and then the adapter goes into the MBP USB port. It's on Amazon and it claims to function as a way to plug microphones and other external audio equipment to it. It seems pretty straightforward, which sometimes has me thinking it's too good to be true.
The output from your radio is analog, regardless of whether the radio is 'digital' or not.
You need a USB audio interface. The iMic is a USB audio interface.

i am having problem copying any files or folders from any external device or moving between folders within the macbook. its too slow and takes a load of time. as you can see above picture it makes all clear.
its not even old i just bought it on november 2012. it worked fine 2-3 weeks but now it not good. even apps take more time to open. it is getting too slow so soon. anyone with solutions ? please help me.

What kind of external device is it? USB 2 is the slowest port on the Mac, Firewire 800 and eSATA and Gigabit Ethernet are much faster, USB 3 and Thunderbolt are extremely fast.
Also, if the hard drive is almost full things can slow down.

Which components do I need to record midi from my keyboard into the iPad (including midi app?)?  I just want to see the recorded sheet music.  The keyboard does have midi output.

Create a master folder to contain your photos. Organize your photos the way you want them putting each group into its own folder inside the master folder.
Then start iTunes on that computer and connect your iPad.
Select your iPad in iTunes on the computer.
Select Photos in the row of tabs on the right side of iTunes.
If you select the master folder, the folders nested inside will all become separate albums on your iPad after you select Apply or Sync.
Instead of copying all the albums to your iPad you can select individual folders to sync to your iPad.
