Recording MP3

HI
Please excuse my ignorance but I'm totally new to the mac.
I am looking for a way of recording an mp3 directly on to my mac for a audio assignment I need to do. I can record in garage band but what format is this saved in? and is there anyway of converting to a mp3 file?
Sorry if this has already been covered.

Use the "Share" menu to export your recording, check the compression box and select mp3 as the compression method.

  • My CD player/recorder is no longer recording MP3's

my CD player/recorder is no longer recording MP3's. I get no warning messages, just when I place the CD into the drive and open Windows Media Player, it's reporting that it cannot record some or all of the CD. I select one of the available tracks at a time and attempt to record, but get the error message with every track.

    Hi,
Please clarify: Do you want to RECORD or do you want to RIP the CD ? WMP can RIP musics CD's (not fully protected) to MP3 files, but RECORD from a CD ? Sorry, I don't know.
    Regards.

  • Recording mp3 files

How do I record MP3 files using ITunes? It wants to record as audio files which will take more than disk. Is there some other easy program which will be less cumbersome than ITunes. Must be freeware. Welcome suggestions. Thanks

The link does not work. Here is the detail:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Burning button at the top of the window.
Choose MP3 CD as the Disc Format, then click OK.
Select the playlist containing the songs you want to burn to the CD, and make sure all the songs you want to include on the CD have a checkmark beside them.
You can only burn a CD from the songs in a playlist, and only checked songs are included. For instructions on creating a playlist, click "Tell me more."
If the playlist contains more songs than will fit on one CD, iTunes will burn as many songs as fit on the CD. You may want to move some of the songs to a new playlist, and then burn each playlist to a separate CD. (You can see the size of the selected playlist at the bottom of the iTunes window.)
Click the Burn Disc button in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window.
Insert a blank CD-R disc and click Burn Disc again.
If you plan to only play the CD using your computer, you can also use a CD-RW disc. To play it on a stereo, use a CD-R disc.
If your playlist includes songs in formats other than MP3, they will not be burned on the CD.

  • How can I create an iPhone3g ringtone from a recorded MP3

I've recorded my daughters voice as an mp3 file (about 10 seconds long) and want to use it as a ringtone on my iPhone3G but cannot figure out how I do this. I'm using iTunes8 and all the instructions I've found on creating ringtones will not work as menu options simply aren't there and no amount of messing around with the file will allow me to drop it into the ringtones folder on my library. This is infuriating as is the apple support site 8-(

The easiest way I found was by using http://audiko.net/en.html. You just upload any MP3, trim it by dragging the handles to what you want and then download it to your PC. Then, you can just drag it to the Ringtones section in iTunes.

  • Record MP3 and take photos?

Hello - I'm looking for a gadget that can record in MP3 and also take a decent (still) photo.
I seem to get lots of advice pointing towards and iPhone but I don't need a phone, nor want a long-term contract commitment.
Can anyone suggest another Apple product? The new Nano has a video but not a stills camera (sadly). I've seen the Voice Memo app but cannot find out if it has a limit on it (I may need to record quite lengthy press conferences and such).
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Would the iPhone suit these tasks? Help.

My phone is not jailbroken.  I don't know what you mean about hacked.   Maybe it is hacked?   This is what is happening: About three times over the past few months I've noticed that my phone while "off" will come on (light up) and the screen shows an arrow towards the bottom; an arrow such that you would see on various "players" in order to "play" video or audio, I've searched my phone and cannot find any app that produces this particular screen though. Once I pick up the phone when this screen myseriously appears out of nowhere and press anything, it goes away and goes to the standard "slider" front page to unlock the phone.

  • Need an high quality voice recording app that does mp3s.

I need an app for my ipad (can be iphone only app as well) that will, best case scenario, record AIFF allow you to edit and then convert edited file to mp3 and finally allow e-mailing the file. If it only records mp3 and allows editing and subsequent e-mailing, that would be a close second at this point. I have found a ton of apps that record AIFF but don't then support conversion to mp3...anyone have any thoughts?!?!
    Thanks in advance.

Record in QuickTime Player, save your recording as a file and drag that into Pages:
Quicktime > Menu > File > New Audio Recording (control option command n)
You start and stop the recording by hitting the spacebar.
Menu > Edit > Trim > drag the ends in
To remove any silence or unwanted sounds.

  • Record audio MP3 Format

    Hi,
How can we record audio in Flash Media server as MP3 format
    is it possible ?
    Raj

Dear bjosh44 this person wanted to record MP3 using FMS which is currently unavailable due to royalty fees on a copyright protected codec however this may change in the future because the U.S. patent holders don't seem to be enforcing the copyright on the codec. Germany or somebody threw a fit and sued sandisk. I suppose adobe just isn't going to risk it. Go read about MP3 on wikipedia if you want to know more about what I'm talking about.

  • Burn music-CD ... directly from OGG or MP3 records

    the task:
i help some people to master a CD (play instruments, sing : and record it on a archlinux to OGG and MP3 --- some songs we made in ogg, some in mp3 ... yes, i know ogg is much better, but some people want to be able to listen it on a mp3-player directly)
we have now some OGG and some MP3 files created from line-in (recorded in WAV and then lame or oggenc them)
    now the tricky question:
what program would you use to burn the MP3 and OGG  files directly to CD on a IDE-BURNER
// i dont want to use the ide-scsi module in lilo because this is also a DVD-drive
// i know that it is very easy if you encode the files back to WAV, but there must be a more elegant way
i know of gtoaster, but you must have a scsi-burner or one working with ide-scsi at bootup

    zen_guerrilla wrote:
I record mp3s & oggs to audio cd with the following script I wrote :
    #!/bin/sh
    SPEED=24

    DRIVEROPTS=burnproof
echo "Converting mp3 to wav files"
    for MP3 in *.mp3; do
    mpg123 -r 44100 --stereo -w "$MP3.wav" "$f"

    echo "Writing audio cd"
cdrecord speed=$SPEED dev=$DEVICE driveropts=$DRIVEROPTS -v -eject -pad -audio -dao *.wav
    rm -f *.wav
(install normalize to have volumes normalized )
Simply change SPEED,DEVICE,DRIVEROPTS to match your system. To write a cd-r using atapi directly (without ide-scsi) you need cdrtools v.2.01a (I could send the PKGBUILD if you want), and check your devices with
    cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATAPI
and instead of using ie, dev=0,0,0 use dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 with cdrecord.
Note that it doesn't produce the expected results (at least for me), so I'd suggest to stick to ide-scsi till kernel-2.6.0 & cdrtools-2.01 (not alpha).
about ATAPI:0,0,0 ... that's exactly how it works with xcdroast and cdrecord also with cdrtools 2.00 (the arch package) ... the only thing is: the gtoaster is too old to have such an option: you can only tell what scsi id it should use ... and "ATAPI:0,0,0" do not work as scsi-id... i tried
your script is great, because it is easy ... but not really "on the fly" (as files are being generated) ... i would use it, but it is not only me to use such a solution, so it must be a little bit user friendlier (... a nice gui --- i know that the word "gui" actually leads to alergical reactions in the archlinux comunity, and i agree in a lot of pooint f views, but it is not me the enduser ...)

  • Notes, grumblings and Questions on MP3-players in gene

. A failing of (as far as I know)
any MP3 recorder (if an MP3 player can record MP3s, I call it an MP3 recorder)
are all those missing editing options available on MiniDisk: divide, combine, name and move tracks.
Since fragmenting is of hardly any importance on flash-memory, I really don't see why they don't offer it. Unless someone knows one that does?
2.Q: How good is the quality of this "direct MP3 encoding" compared to software encoders like LAME?
I suppose it's lower ('cause of the far lower computing power and 'cause energy consumption is a FAR greater issue than on home PCs)
but just how much lower is it's
Asked differently: At what bitrate do you have to "direct encode" to achieve approx. the same quality as 80kbs CBR via LAME?
    3. "OLEDs are fascinating and are rapidly evolving, but have currently (July 2005) only a life span of 0000-5000 hours or 2-5 years".
(Translated) statement from reichelt-elektronik. So, don't buy an OLED-device yet if you want something really long-lasting.
4.Equalizer: Even on a HiFi stereo system, I'd consider it more of a gimmick (unless one doesn't have a PC - then it can be useful).
If I want a song to have a stronger bass or whatever (which I never did, so far),
then I'd use an audio editing software so the song always sounds the way I prefer it, independently from the playback device.
On a portable player, this function is just a nuisance, since I have to pay attention that it is 'not acti've' or 'normal'.
In addition, often a button is wasted/reserved for this function that could be put to better use.
[So, plea for opensource firmware here that'll let me reprogram such a button. Or alternati'vely, several different firmwares by Creative that cater to different types of customers (like me).].
Far more use than an equalizer, though propably more difficult to implement, would be a
    5. Volume Compressor: (A function that narrows the volume range of a song, for example from 2dB-60dB to 55dB-60dB.)
Of course, your average pop song is already heavily compressed,
but if you're listening to some opera or other classical music, it would be great if one could increase compression when there is (a lot of) ambient noise,
so one can still hear quiet passages without going deaf on the loud ones.
Q:I've read that some players have a 'Smart Volume' function. Is that a compressor?
    6. Who thinks that Artist-Album-Title is a great sequence for an MP3-player?
Maybe I'm a weird guy, but I've never thought "Now, I wanna hear Madonna." or "Now, I wanna hear ABBA."
Instead, I think like "Now, I wanna hear 'Goodnight moon' " (from whoever) or "Now, 'Music' "(from Madonna) or "Now, 'The winner takes it all' " (from ABBA).
So, to me, the title is by far the Nr. criterion. What do I care who's singing it's And though with pop songs, one often can't help knowing, I've got lots of folklore, oldies and more extraordinary stuff where the Artist(s) and Albums are "Unknown" to me.
What if you want to play a particular song? You don't just have to know who the Artist is and in what Album, but also what track number the song has, because on average, your player won't be able to display more than 'Artist' and part of the 'Album' name, unless each one is on a separate line, which usually isn't the case. (I know it's scrolling, but that takes time, and the longer the names, the more. Prelistening is usually faster).
So, even to those who know 'Artist' and 'Album', the display isn't of much use since there can be dozens of songs in a particular album.
[Again, plea for opensource firmware that'll let me change the display sequence, or many different firmware versions by Creative .].
Of course, I can still have my sequence by saving the track title in the 'Artist' column, but, well... I'm not very fond of the idea!

.) Well, most mp3 players are not dedicated recorders like MiniDiscs were intended to be, namely why they don't commonly come with this functionality.
2.) Guess it depends on the chipset used for the direct encoding I would imagine. I would think it differs from model to model.
3.) Most people won't keep an mp3 player for that long in my opinion. I have had 4 mp3 players in the span of about 3 years. Not to say they've all broken (only one has in fact), but I am a fan of new technology. As are most people. I would think the majority of people have no real care for this figure.
4.) Most people do use an equaliser. It's not a gimmick. It can instantly give a boost to a song when/if it is necessary. I don't personally use one, but it gives people the simplicity of using their player to implement certain presets without having to have any other technical know-how. Most players could do with some kind of memory system, where it remembers what EQ setting you used for a specific track, but it's not 00% necessary.
Also, I've never had a player with a dedicated EQ hardware button. Not that I've wanted one. There are players with configurable buttons though. I am pretty sure iRi'ver players and Cowan's iAudio range have players with at least one configurable button.
5.) No player I know has what you request. Smart Volume also generally is an overall way of making a track seem a different volume, it doesn't analyse separate parts. You could probably achieve what you wanted by running your mp3's through something like mp3gain.
6.) My Creative Zen Sleek let you view by :
    Album > Track
    Artist > Album > Track
    Artist > All Tracks
    Genre > Artist > Album > Track
I can even go into "All Tracks" and use the find feature to grab a specific track if I need to. Isn't this more than enough to accomodate the average person?

Thanks for your help.

OK, when I change the case from MP3 to mp3 at least the file appear on GB. But now there is another problem. The first files, mp3 o wav, I put on the band, I have the graphic of the sound and the sound. But after 1 or two, I have the graphic... and I don't have the sound, just the graphic...

  • Optical Output Recording Problems

Im trying to use the optical output on the motherboard (MSI 875P NEO) to record music to my portable minidisc player.  The problem Im experiencing is that the Minidisc display shows "No Copy" when I set it to record, this as I understand it is a copy protection facility built into minidisc's to prevent repeated copying from digital sources.
Is there some setting that I need to set in the Soundmax control panel to resolve this issue, Ive tried enabling PCM & AC3 independantly but if either are active then the problem occurs.  Im only trying to record MP3's.
Has anyone else had any experience with this?
    Thanks
    Dave

This has nothing to do with SoundMax drivers or motherboard.
I have to lock this thread immediately or remove it because of the contents of this topic could put MSI into trouble as this forum is hosted in MSI server. Sorry about that.

  • SB Audigy 2 Platinum only recording left chan

I am attampting to do some custom mixing doing some voice-over for a narrated program.
Listening with headphones as I record all sounds fine, however, when I play the recording I only have left channel content. I did notice that the record level indicates that there is only a left channel component. I've checked all my presets and I'm set to record MP3 Stereo and can't find any other settings which could be muting the right channel.
    I'd appreciate some guidance.

    Jallenwebb,
If you are using the Mic/Line in 2 on the platinum dri've you will want to set the volume control on it to microphone (turn the volume up to where you want it...all the way down till it clicks sets it to line in mode) as in line in mode it records in stereo mode (both channels are recorded and since most mics are mono then you end up with only one channel) but in Microphone mode it records it as a mono input that is panned to center so it plays back in both channels.
