Recording my mix on my ibook

Hi all,
Does anyone know how to make it possible to record sound from an external device ( mixer) I would like to record my dj mixes on CD via my I book.

For this you'll need an audio input device, lots of people recommend Griffin's iMic, you should check some reviews about it.
For the mixing you could use GaragaBand, for example, then QTPro or iTunes to export the finished product.
Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.

  • Recording a mix into Logic??

I'm wanting to record a mix, but not sure whether you can do it in Logic...anyone got any ideas?
    Cheers
    Ibook G4 1.33 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi
If you want to mix stuff within logic: audio files and soft instruments then go to file and choose BOUNCE.
or open your audio environment windows, look for your output fader and there should be a bounce button on the bottom. You can then save your bounce as several file formats or burn a CD (depending on your logic version).
for further information open the help window whithin logic,go to logic reference manual and on the search box type MIXDOWN or Bounce.

  • I cant record a mix onto my imac using my headphone port? Any ideas?

Im trying to record a mix onto my Imac using the headphone port....i was hoping that the line in button would be there but its not....
    Can someone help?

if apple headset for ios devices works with macs also for input then it's because the non std. way of adding input into the minijack std which officially support no input only output is not wired with the cable you are trying to connect you can likely buy a converter or cannibalise a iphone headset and makeyour own

  • Recording a Mix CD need help please

I recorded my mix CD in GB its one big trck how can I cut it town to make different song on one mix CD and how do I export it all to Itunes I can export the whole one trake into itunes but its one long song. Thanks Matt.

    Without an audio editor:
    1. Cut your big track into little pieces, using the apple-T command.
    2. Put each song on a different track (create new tracks by selecting "new basic track" from the track menu, pull the little song sniplets down so each starts on bar no. 1).
    3. Solo track 1, which should contain one song now (soloing means: click the little headphone symbol on the track controls, so you hear only one track).
    4. Move the purple triangle in the "ruler" that is probably sitting where you "big" song ended to the end of the song in track 1.
    5. Choose "export to iTunes".
    6. Repeat this with every track, starting from no. 3.
Then you probably have several songs with the same name in iTunes - just go ahead and rename them.

  • How much time do you spent in Vocals Recording and Mixing?

I would like to know, how much time do you spent in Vocals Recording and Mixing?
I mean, you do doubles and then the are not that correct you record it again and maybe a third version and then you mix it, you cut and arrange some phrases and words so that it is in sync .....
How much time do you spent in this process until you say: This is enough! Because, somehow. you can always do more and try harder and do it again and try this ....
    Thanks to all your comments

sorry jim, i couldnt help it:-)
the better paying and the higher profile the gig, theres really a gamut of singers youll encounter. theres a very well known pop artist i work with that honestly doesnt even get CLOSE to usable vocs until theyve been in there warming up for around 6hrs (takes them this long to get the four other very loud overtones in their voice down to about ONE very loud overtone), and you take takes on them just because you never know. (seriously, 6hrs) but you do it because it pays really well, whats a day of time when you get it back a few times over?? (btw, with this person, theres usually about 20-25 takes to go through when comping a voc, so make that TWO days:-( )
that would be my biggest gauge of how long i spend honestly, the money, unless i have a personal investment in it myself. youll know pretty quickly if youre in trouble or not with a singer. if theyre bad (pitch or timing) but paying well, i will rely on my skills in melodyne to save the day:-) i know what i can do in it and can hear what the singer can or cant do with their voice. sad thing is, the best singers usually arent the ones with record deals.
i know the money gauge prob sounds cold, but for the most part thats the deciding factor. of course there are times you come across real talent and take the experience of working and creating with them over the money, but MOST of the time in this 'business' we dont always have that luxury. plus if youre just starting out, i would take just about ANY gig just to be able to do it and gain the experience, you dont want a really important gig being your maiden voyage in melodyne:-)
i would also go with jims recommendation in melodyne. MD studio lets you use key commands to work (plugin doesnt) and its actually sounds better than the plug itself.
as far as mixing, i cant answer that, i usually dont mix. i will if im the last resort. i would be really discouraged if i couldnt get the mix in a day, with a relisten and tweaks the next day for a couple hours. i sort of mix as i go along just so i can hear everything in its place.
my 2 cents is done with now:-)

  • Advice on recording vinyl mixes from 2 X turntables using Adobe Audition.

    Hi,
I am a creative cloud member using the apps mostly for website design. I have a large collection of vinyl records. I am looking to  digitize some 30 minute vinyl mixes from two technics and mixer and was thinking of using the Adobe Audition App which I can download to my laptop. Any advice to get me connected and started greatly appreciated !

what kind of mixer are you using? from my experience, as a vinyl collector turned vinyl dj... going between 45rpm 7"s, 45rpm 12"s and 33 1/3 12" LPs (mono AND stereo). good to know your mixer and your outputs on the analog side. i have found that to be the easiest way to bypass the heavy restoration work.
for relatively quick mixes. i just organize my audio files in the Files window and then start dragging and dropping into one track instead of any of those templates Audition has ready. The DJ Drop is completely ridiculous for someone like me who is spinning only 45s, recording from mixer booth to a tascam mxII recorder since I am doing that manually.
hope this helps.... somewhat? i am working on a 5 hour mix right now between 4 DJs and it's easier to just use regions instead of various tracks. Still a hell of a project.

  • Record Windows Mixer with MAudio?

I would like to record windows sound output with an MAudio Firewire 410 soundcard? I used to be able to "Record What You Hear" with an old Soundblaster card, but the Maudio seems to disable the windows mixer (at least in Windows XP) in favour of its own driver panel.
I've tried various routings in Adobe Audition but no luck so far. If anyone has ideas / please let me know if it's possible with the MAudio hardware.
I found this clip on youTube
    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dGP4ZHDBkEs
which shows someone setting up Audition to record windows mixer stream. If I watch the clip on high quality + full screen it looks like he has an MAudio delta (when he selects the driver from the drop down).
Is there any reason if it does work on an Maudio delta that it shouldn't work on a MAudio FW 410?

The M-Audio mixer screen should allow you to select Software Return 1/2 as your source. Then in Audition hardware Setup screen select M-Audio ASIO as your driver and then (03S)Monitor L Delta AP or something similar for the FW 410 as your input source.

  • Recording DJ mixes with Logic?

    Hi!
Wondering if anyone uses Logic Pro 7 to record their DJ mixes and how they go about doing that...
my main question is- is there a way to get around the 15 minute recording limit?
Also, are there any useful tips anyone has for mastering the mix?
    Thanks!

I do this. I just record my mixes as a stereo track and then cut them into tracks and master them in waveburner. Push A in logic and a window will open that will allow you to change the maximum recording time. This will allow you to record your whole mix without having to stop and start. Ben

  • Trying to record Stereo Mix with a monitor through my headphones.  Using Screenium to record Audio and Video, using Avid MBox Mini with MXL 909 Microphone for the audio through the interface.

Basically, what I am trying to do is this:
Record my screen through Screeenium, record my voice as audio through an Avid MBox Mini (interface) with a MXL 909 microphone to pick up the audio.  I have all that figured out.  I'm able to efficiently record my audio and screenplay through these instruments and programs.  What I am having trouble with is the stereo mix.  I am running into a slew of problems here... My goal: Add on the audio of a game that I am playing (for example, Amneisia) so that the audio for my game will be picked up internally, and not through the speakers to be recorded through the microphone.  I want there to be no external sound except me talking into my microphone.  I also want to be able to HEAR the audio of the game through my headphones (and if possible, myself as well, through a monitor maybe?)
Problems I have run into so far:
-Haven't gotten it to pick up in game audio at all while using headphone.  Can't figure this out
-Downloaded soundflower, have the output as soundflower.  Not picking up anything, will put all my sound and midi settings at the end.
-When I do record through my microphone, it is only picking up a single channel (left earpiece only, no right channel)
-I have figured out it is NOT the equipment, I use Pro Tools and am able to pick up both channels with my mic, recorded a few tests. It's settings and I can't      figure it out
-Trying not to run 16 million programs while running the game, will cause lag.
    Summed up:
    Trying to record:
-Audio from gameplay of any game I am playing through alternative route of speakers (do NOT want to record game audio through speakers, internally)
-Record voice through Avid MBox Mini and MXL 909 microphone.
    -Record screen gameplay through Screenium
I followed a guide that told me to achieve "stereo mix'' I need to download soundflower and follow "X" steps.  That is done and these are my current settings:
Audio Midi Setup - Stereo Mix custom Aggregate Device, Soundflower (2ch) selected, Avid Mbox Mini selected, Soundflower Output #1 has 2 channels (1-2), using Avid MBox mini for "Input" in order to record.  Using Soundflower AND Avid MBox mini as "Output" in order to hear the sounds and replay game sounds (could be the problem? Maybe?)
Sound Settings - Output Stereo Mix (custom channel)  Input Avid MBox Mini (recording)
I'm hoping this isn't too hard to understand.. I'm VERY bad at explaining information regarding computers.. It's hard becuase I don't understand it.  I can clarify anything that I am able to, so any help on finding certain things would be greatly appreciated.
My computer: Macbook Pro MAC OS X Lion (11G63) 10.7.5  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 4GB 13333 MGz DDR3  (If any of this is imporant)

    Hey guys,
I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?
If anyone knows anything different, please let me know.

  • 'disk too slow' problems when trying to record ONE TRACK on my ibook.

okay- help guys. my new ibook freezes after not even a minute of one track live recording and i ge the disk too slow error. i'm using a basic m-audio usb interface with the internal (4200 rpm) hard drive. i know this isn't a fast hard drive, but SURELY. one track? i've been in touch with m audio, reinstalled driver, repaired hard disk permissions. still no good. i only ever need to record two live tracks at a time, but then i do need to stack them up a bit. is my ibook really incapable of that? i'm shocked if it is. anyone want to buy an ibook?
any advice much appreciated as i'm going out of my mind.
    happy christmas,
    adam gilhespy

    Adam:
You haven't given a lot of info, but here are a couple of ideas:
    1) What sample rate are you using? You should be at 44.1 or 48 kHz. Don't even think of anything higher.
    2) Are you recording in a new arrange window? Or are you overdubbing to existing tracks? If so, freeze all your existing tracks.
    3) Are you attempting to use any plugins while you're recording? If you are, turn them off for now.
    4) How much RAM do you have installed? You need at least 768 MB; more preferably.
    5) You're going to need an external drive eventually, but to record one track should be easily done.

  • Iphone 5 direct line in recording from mixer

I'm intending to buy an iphone in October and wants to find out if there are any external cables or devices I need in order to connect a direct line out from the mixer to the iphone 5 (I believe it should work the same in iphone 4s) to do recording. Or can I just plug in my 3.5mm audio out cable directly? Does the iphone 5 jack allow direct audio input? Please advise. Thanks!

did you solved your problem? My line ins disappeared too! (audigy 4)

  • Can't hear monitor / recording from mixer

I'm running three mics and a direct feed from a pre-amp into a Yamaha mixer and then from the mixer to the MBP using Garage Band purely as a recording device.
But I can't hear the mix that the Mac is recording.
    Never used GB08 before.
Help! (Band goes on in an hour or two.)

    Thanks!
(Part of the problem was that I was using a friend's BOSE headphones and he hadn't mentioned they have to powered on separately. Ok, that was dumb.)

  • Recording from Mixing board to GB

I am a teacher in a middle school. In my industrial tech. class we have a radio broadcasting station. At this station I have a mixing board as well as other euipment. Now my mixing board has an output that runs to a reciever so I can play it over the speakers. I unplugged this and plugged in a RCA to 1/8" cable and plugged this into my macbook mic in. When i go to record music in GB all i get is a lot of static, but with the same set up just recording Talking into a mic through mixing board set up. it comes through just fine. Why do i get the static and how can i fix it?

  • Recording Movie Mix

Hi, I want to set a recording for a program on Channel 32, Movie Mix. On the TV guide it says "Channel off air". If I select the channel the programs are there. I have tried rebooting the system and new channel search. Can anyone explain why the programs are not listed.  ( They are listed on my TV program guide.)
    Thanks

Its free ... been broadcasting  a full schedule (15 hours a day from 10am thru to 1am) for a couple of weeks now. Its actually a rebranding of a station that started life on Freesat.
Apparently its owned by Sony Pictures Television and they bought a channel slot on Freeview to give them wider coverage.
The programming is listed on the EPG on the new look BT vision but not apparently on the programme guide  classic  BT vision system nor orn the BT vision website.  BT certainly knows its exists as it is one of the more regular advertisers on the channel.
Broadcasts movies and tv series like   Baywatch and the Guardian
