Recording my voice on GarageBand w/o an external mic

On my old (dead) iBook I could record my voice in Garage Band just by speaking at my computer. No such luck with my new iMac. Any suggestions? Is it possible without an external mic?

  • Can you record your voice in logic pro 9 just as simple as garageband or do you need a plug-in?

can you record your voice in logic pro 9 just as simple as garageband or do you need a plug-in or interface?

Alas, poor Logic, I knew him well.
Recording wise, It will be much the same as Garageband but you will need to read manuals as Logic doesn't set things up for you. You must choose input and output devices, create the correct tracks. Logic was designed for professional use so it expects users to be somewhat familiar with recording/editing techniques, in other words, won't hold your hand or be nearly as easy to use.

  • Garageband won't record my voice or anything.

A couple of months ago or may i say nearly a year, i tried out garageband to record my voice. Back then, I was a newbie to this whole apple MAC thing and applications like garageband. So i only would use it to record my voice and i also could change the vocal effects. It worked fine.  Then one day, i opened garageband and wanted to record me singing but it didn't work. There's a constant sound of a beat while i record and listen to it after recording. Also, the bar goes totally flatline when i record and listen. The ziz-zag line doesn't come up in the bar. I didn't know what was wrong, i tried to make it work but obviously that didn't happen. So, i left it like that and i didn't bother using it. Though, i want to start using it again for my singing but it still doesn't work.
I would really appreciate some help.

Assuming you want to use the internal mic - make sure it is selected as the audio input in GB's preferences.

  • GarageBand doesn't record my voice properly. It plays it as if it had a helium effect.

I have been asked to submit a voice recording to a regional company for education materials and I need an answer quickly, please.
I recorded a sample on garageband and choice: real instrument, vocals, female basic to record my voice sample.
It's been a long time since I've last used GarageBand and I did manage to get a normal sound from it. But now, I can't.
It makes my voice sound like I breathed in helium. And I have no idea how to get rid of the effect. Can you please help me asap? Thanks.

Have you checked the setting of the instrument, if you have an effect set?
Select your vocal track, open the "Info" panel, and click the "edit" tab. Is there a distortion effect set, like "Vocal Transformer"? Then disable it by clicking the blue button.
Check the same for the master track.  (Track menu > Show Master Track)

  • Can i record voice with garageband?

Can i record voice with garageband?

    Hi,
I am a Garage Band dunce (first time user). I’ve imported a guitar track as track 1.
I launched a “new basic track” with no effects for the vocal track, but cannot get any vocals to show up on the meter before recording.
I can click on track one (my guitar track) and I can see the meter move when speaking into the mic, but when I click on track two, I get nothing from the mic.
I’m sure the answer is obvious, but I don’t see it. Any tips?
    Thanks,
    Terry

  • Garageband only recording my voice in high tempo

How's it going? Having a bit of some trouble here while trying to record a track using my logitech usb headset.
Everytime I record using this device, the recording ends up being really fast, so I guess in high tempo. I get the chipmunk basically, but when I record using the mac's built in mic I sound completely normal. I did not mess with any settings. My usb mic works for every other program on the mac so I don't think its the hardware. Is there something I'm doing wrong or something I can check? I'd really like to not record my voice using the built in mic.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Open the Audio/Midi Utility (in your Utilities folder) and make sure the Logitech's sample rate is set to 44.1 kHz.

  • Recording my voice at a higher level

    Hi All,
I am recording my voice for a podcast on garageband. I am speaking directly into my mic, which is attached to my computer. How can I record my voice at a higher level. The output is not loud enough and the "track line" is almost flat. How do I change it so I can record at a higher level!
    Thanks!

You will need a mixer or a microphone preamplifier. The audio input on Macs is line level - for example the 'tape' output from a hifi - and is insufficiently sensitive for a microphone.
    Hi, Roger,
I was looking at the Behringer Podcast Studio http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/481377-REG/Behringer_PODCASTUDIO_FIREWIRE_ PODCASTUDIO_FIREWIRE_Bundle.html#features
and was wondering if this would work for a first-time podcast? Is it better to pick the items up piecemeal? I was thinking of the Behringer 1202 (Xenyx or UB) as it has 2 more (total of 4) XLR inputs and it's going for about $75. However, the Firewire audio interface with the studio package alone is going for *$77*. It seems that the combo would be more economical, but I don't want to sacrfice quality too much.
Is a Griffin iMic USB audio interface (or a Behringer UCA202 - Low Latency 2 Input / 2 Output USB/Audio Interface with Digital Output) just as good at around $30?
I already have a several mics, some XLR, some 1/4" jacks -- condenser & dynamic.
Eventually, I'd like to record a podcast with around 3-5 people all doing a round-table type discussion.
    Thanks for any input, Deborah
PS like the Behringer mixer because of the CD/tape input, also, so that I can digitize old cassette tapes.

  • Recording my voice

    Hi
I'm brand new to using Garage Band so completely clueless.
I want to be able to record my voice through the built-in microphone on my mac.
    How do I do it?
    Thanks
    Lara

I, too, am new to using GarageBand and recording my voice. And have several questions.
I can record using the built in mic. But there seems to be lots of static or white noise. What settings should I use to eliminate that?
Or is that just something that can't be avoided with a built in mic?
I'm not sure if I want to get into the expense of buying a microphone and a mixer . . .
    Can you help?

  • How can I record my voice in my MBP

I am a new Mac user and I was wondering if I could record my voice in my MBP?
I didn't buy any additional software but the one that comes with the Leopard.

I don't know what "came with your Leopard" but if Garageband "came with your Leopard" you will be able to record your voice in that. You can also try Audacity which is a free recording/editing program for Audio.

go to out put and check mute to keep from feeding back.
unclick output mute to lisyen to platback

  • Recording my voice in garage band

I have a basic logitech recording device with a usb connector. How do I record my voice to a track? I hit record but it doesn't recognize my voice as an input. I have already selected the logitech as an input device in my preferences.

Yes, it can (you do not need QT as the middle man). Just mix your narration and music in GarageBand, export to iTunes (aiff), then import the AIFF file into After Effects.
If it were me, I would create the music track in GarageBand, but keep the music and narration on seperate tracks, then mix them in After Effects. This way if your final product is too "music heavy" you do not need to go back in to GB to remix, you can do it in After Effects.
