Recording on the iPOD with video

I am still not sure how to record on my new iPOD with video. I would appreciate your suggestions.

According to iLounge, XtremeMac and Belkin have developed devices that allow you to run a microphone from the iPod's dock connector. From the initial information it sounds like you will be able to connect any microphone with a 3/4" plug and record using the iPod voice recording functionality. The products should be ready for sale in the next few months.
Although this is a great addition to the iPod, I still wish that Apple hadn't limited the sample rate to 44.1KHz...

  • Do you need adobe photoshop or elements for the ipod with video?

I am so very frustrated. It took me three days to get quicktime and itunes installed. Finally figured that out. I go to hook up my ipod and it is not working. Ipod has not shown up at all. Instead I get the Windows Hardware finder trying to find the hardware/drivers for it. I have gone thru the 5 r's twice. I have tried different USBS. So this is what I need to know.
Do I have 5th generation. I cannot find it anywhere on the box. I got it for xmas and says that it plays video and slide shows. It says version 1.0 and model MA146LL.
On the box it list requirements. My computer meets the box requirements. But according to the website, 5th generation ipods need adobe photoshop or elements? Is this so? I don't have either would that be why it is not working?
The 5 R's. I have tried twice. With no success. Do I have to go thru my entire computer and delete every little file that holds ipods and Itunes? (I had to do this to finally get quicktime installed.) Do I need to delete Quicktime?
I have tried 3 usb ports none have worked. Why do they say try a different one?

With iOS 5 you do not need a computer. The new iPod comes with iOS 5.  However, you have XP so you can install iTunes and sync with the iPod.  However, you computer /XPdoes not support the iCloud features.

  • Is the IPOD with video reliable?

I personaly know 5 people with IPODs and 2 of those persons have had their ipods die on them. One was able to replace it through the warranty and one was not. I have heard through word of mouth that IPODs tend to break down a lot and the support is not very good. However, I would like to buy one. Is there some info available to suggest that these are reliable pieces of technology? Or some numbers to show Units sold vs. units that have broken? Thanks.

If it really were such a bad piece of hardware that 25% would break I think we've seen the last of Apple within due time.
    It won't even be 0.25% I guess!
I've currently got my 2nd iPod (5th gen. 60GB), I sold the former (4th gen) because this one came out, and must say I really love this piece of hardware.
Of course you might be that unlucky person having bought that buggy iPod which sneeked past final quality control but surely you'll get a new one if that's the case.
Don't base your opinion solely on what you read here: Most people visiting these kind of forums report a problem, you won't see that many posts here claiming: "Hey, I've got no problem, just wanted to say my iPod is doing fine!" even though this is, by a large number, the majority of iPod owners!
One thing to keep in mind though when going for an iPod: Protect the case! The one drawback of this generation is that its surface scratches way too easy. Buy a case or do as I did protect it with a shield. I myself am using "the invisible shield" (but there are others too) and must say it's the best I could've done: No more worries about scratching at all!

  • Ipod touch 4 i can no longer watch movies, transferred to the ipod, on videos app it simply says loading and then stops. On my ipad mini with older ios it still works.

Ipod touch 4 i can no longer watch movies, transferred to the ipod, on videos app it simply says loading and then stops. On my ipad mini with older ios it still works. So how can I fix this I have tried converting videos into different formats but it will not work.
Is IOS 8 really appropriate with Ipod Touch 4, if the older Ipods do not have the capability then why are we prompted to install new operating systems.
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all videos and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • ITunes keeps saying that my 60GB iPod with Video is corrupted when it's not

I have an 60GB iPod with Video that iTunes keeps saying is corrupted when I connect it to my MacBook Pro. Although it seems to only happen after using it for more than a short amount of time before syncing it. I just watched a 5 minute video after I ejected my iPod and when I synced it after that, iTunes did not say it was corrupted. Although when I used it for over 3 hours earlier today and synced it, iTunes said it was corrupted. When iTunes says it is corrupted, I eject the iPod and resync it, and it's always fine the second time. This issue has been ongoing for a month or two now and it's starting to get annoying. I bought the iPod last June.

it can be some corrupted files or bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • IPod (with video) freezes Windows XP - POSSIBLE SOLUTION

    Hi everyone,
I bought a 5g 30gig iPod with video a few days ago, and immediately ran into the "iPod freezes Windows when connected via USB 2.0" problem. I read through every possible post on this website, on iLounge, on Microsoft's forums, etc. There seems to be quite a substantial number of people running into this problem, because I've been seeing posts about this all over the place.
My specific problem was that whenever I plugged in my iPod, the iPod would display "do not disconnect" and iTunes would begin to recognize it - sometimes it would reach the point where it would begin to update - and then the computer would completely freeze. The iPod would "disconnect" and be completely usable, but the computer would not respond to anything what-so-ever. I had to perform a hard restart to get the computer usable again. No error messages, no "ctrl-alt-del" saves, nothing. It would also lock in the same exact way if I just plugged the iPod in without starting iTunes (iTunes wouldn't automatically start, computer would just lock up after a few moments).
Anyway, my problem was solved through a procedure I saw in a post somewhere (I'm pretty sure it was on these forums, actually). Basically, it seems as though there is some sort of conflict between iTunes, Quicktime, and Symantec's anti-virus.
The process is pretty simple - completely turn off whatever version of Symantec you're using (Norton AntiVirus, Firewall, whatever... I'm running Symantec Corporate AntiVirus 10). Then, uninstall Quicktime and iTunes (it might not be absolutely necessary to completely uninstall iTunes - I uninstalled Quicktime and then "repaired" the iTunes installation).
This seemed to resolve the situation entirely - I've updated my iPod three times now, and charged it, with no problems. Hopefully this continue to work... !
Incidentally, I think it's disgusting that this seems to be such a prevalent problem, yet Apple so far refuses to acknowlege its existence, much less provide a solution. As a long-time Windows/Microsoft user (notice I didn't say 'fan'), I expected much more from Apple.
    Anyway, good luck!

    Hi!
I have the same problem, though using iPod Touch.
My PC crashes just after charging sound on th iPod sounds.
I can be loggen on or not.
I have tried the 5R's two times
    I have removed SP3, didn't help.
I have updated to iTunes 8.0.1: Didn't help.
But I have an portable PC (job PC) where it is working fine, both PC's using XP Pro, english version.
So, just now, I am very dissapointed bu the Apple products (and it took me 20 years of Software Engineering before i bought something from Apple ..... )
So the stress test will be: Will Apple do anything with this ?

  • CompUSA USB 2.o Card, iTunes 7.02, iPod with Video Problem

I just purchased a new 80 gig iPod with video and had to upgrade my MDD Duak 1 Ghz for USB 2.0, as transfer in USB 1 takes far too long. I purchased a card from CompUSA (SKU 304244) which adds two external ports only. When I attempt to transfer files into the iPod it seems to function at the faster speed, but will then freeze on a file, not allowing me to eject the iPod or sometimes to even force quit iTunes. I have tried this several times and there is no consistency regarding how many files have transferred or their size as to when the freeze will occur.
I originally tried this without adding a driver (using OS X 10.4.8), then I added the one from the included disc - same results. I then re-installed the 10.4.8 updater thinking this might have a more recent driver, but things are still the same.
I don't have any other USB 2 devices to use to test the card.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not all of the USB2 PCI cards out there are completely compatible with Mac as they claim to be.
I tried a two-port IOGear card that had that same problem.
Replace it with a 5 port (1 internal and 4 external) Belkin and it works just fine.
Someone has had a list somewhere of the ones that work best. I know that Belkin is one of the good brands to buy for loading a video iPod on a PowerMac. There are others, though.
You might find more on it in the video iPod board.

  • Which cable should I have for my ipod with video

Hi I have ipod with video and bought the ipod fw power adapter gen, so I could charge my ipod away from my computer. I bought the wrong cable and sent it back and have received the wrong cable again. Can anyone help me and tell me which cable I should have, the cables I previously bought from apple are thin firewire cable 6-6 pin o.5m gen, and then ipod dock connector to usb 2.0.

Hi the firewire cable you mention is the one that i bought originally and it does not work with ipod video, the conection to my ipod with this cable is fine but the conection to the other end of the cable does not fit the charger, I checked the link that you both mention and it actually says that it is not compatable. The charger I bought says it works with ipod video thats why I am so confused to know what cable to buy and have made to mistakes already. If you can help me Id be delighted because its driving me nuts.

  • Transfer music from iPod mini to iPod with video

I'm going to be spending a few nights at my friend's house and they plan on giving me their iPod with video. I currently have the iPod mini and I was just wondering if there's a way (in Windows XP) if I can get my music and playlists from my iPod mini to my new iPod with video at my friend's house so I don't have to wait until i can go home and connect it to my PC.

    Actually Problem solved!
if anyone wants to know the steps here they are
*make sure your iPod is enabled for hard disk use*
-on your PC, export the library and any playlists to a flash drive or CD (in this case, I'm using a flash drive)
-create a new user account in Windows
    -open and setup iTunes
-connect the iPod that has the music you want
-go to FILE then IMPORT, and select all your playlist text files along with your library xml file and import
-when done, connect your NEW iPod and format it
-then sync the music and there you go! all your songs on a new iPod when you don't have access to your PC!

  • ... iPod with video makes noises...

OK... so just recently my iPod with video (30 gig) started to make odd sounds... They sound like mechanical type sounds...
It did this when I first turned it on and started a song... (also when I restarted it)
I haven't dropped my iPod recently or do anything that might have messed up anything inside... D:
Oh... By the way... I got my iPod abott a year ago... During Christmas last year...
I honestly have no idea if its still under any kind of warranty, so I'm not sure what to do about this...
    I need advice or something...
My iPod is my baby and I don't know what to do...
    PC! Windows XP Pro

Umm....I hear that from my iPod all the time, but if I were to listen carefully. It's not loud or noticeable when you're doing things, but if you were real quiet, like at night when I use to to fall asleep to, I can hear the humming and such, much like a TV would when it's on. I really can't tell or don't know if what you're hearing is abnormal or just regular hard drive/screen noises. All hard drives will make some kind of noise (it's the read/write heads moving rapidly over the platters that makes the crackle sounds or whatever).

  • Using the IPOD with VISTA

I have just purchased a new sony vaio, running vista. My older desktop is running xp. I had my IPOD and iTunes working just fine with this existing desktop. I just installed iTunes on the new laptop, and now want to use the iPod with this laptop. I attached it and attempted to sync, that the iPod is using an existing library, and wants to delete it and then use the new library. However, since the old library is on the old PC, it is not able to do this. It then says sync is complete, but none of my music is found on the new laptop. HELP.....

When you connected the iPod to your new laptop with the empty iTunes did you press "Erase and Sync"? This syncing does not transfer content from the iPod to iTunes, it transfers from iTunes to the iPod. If you linked to an empty iTunes it will have erased the original contents of your iPod and with nothing to sync will have left it blank.
Connect your iPod back to your desktop computer and it will sync the existing library back onto it again. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Exported movie cannot play on iPod with video

I exported my slide show to 320x240 .mov file (containing a fairplay AAC track from iTunes). I then dragged it into iTunes and it loads successfully onto my iPod with video. The movie shows up in iPod's menu but when I go to play it, I get a black screen for about 10 sec. (length of movie= 5min38sec) and movie ends.
This file plays fine in iTunes6.0.1 and QT7.0.3. I try to export the movie from QT to iPod format but Export is disabled with that movie probably due to fairplay limitations.

    Hi anthony,
You will probably get better answers in the iPod Video discussions, but here are two Apple links to help you out.

  • IPhone and iPod with video docking station.

I just got an iPhone and was happy to see that it fit in my iPod with video docking station. But when I plug it in I get a message that says that this docking station was not meant to be used with the iPhone, and then it just syncs up and works fine with iTunes anyway.
So what's with the warning? Can the phone be damaged by the docking station? Should I be worried? And if there is nothing to worry about, why splash the warning?
Thanks, I look forward to your insight.

There are very few if any docks that are compatible with all functions of all ipods as well as the iphone 3G. Even Apple can scarcely manufacture one (although with a series of adaptors and optional cables they sell a "universal dock"). One of the biggest issues is the charging, as the 3G only charges via the 5 volt USB standard. I don't think there is a risk of damage, but an incoming call could generate some noise artifacts in your sound system. Have you been able to output video from your phone with that dock, and does it charge? BTW which dock are you using?
