Recording phone conversation with imovie

Hello,
for the purpose of my course in linguistics I have to record convesations for conversation analysis.
At this moment I have found the counter parts agreeing to cooperate, and accepting to be recorded.
I have SKYPE which I find useful and I have Imovie.
BUT Imovie does not render a good sound for the other party. My voice is clear but no the interlocuteur's one.
Also Imovie sometimes records, sometimes does not and I only know that after listening which is very annoying, because some parts of conversations will not be able to be reproduced as I have to record live to get a natural speech.
Well MY 2 QUESTIONS ARE:
1) How can I make imovie more reliable and also how can I make the recording of both speakers equal on the recorded item?
2) if the above cannot be solved, does a software exist to record phone conversation on Mac?
Thank you in advance to those who can answer me.
Kind regards,
Kat

No, you don't really want an iMic if you're using a Skype phone.
An iMic is for using a separate microphone to go INTO the Mac. But you don't need that: you're already using the microphone in your Skype phone.
Maybe you're using the Skype so that you get cheap phone calls, but if you used an ordinary loudspeaker phone connected to an ordinary phone line, then you wouldn't need to record on the Mac; you could simply use an ordinary microphone connected to an ordinary Mini-Disc recorder or cassette recorder.
I can't really give you any more detailed information, as I can't hear exactly what you're getting via your Skype phone, and I don't know what settings you've used on your Mac, or in the Audiocorder software.
All I can tell you is that Audiocorder - or possibly even GarageBand! - should work with your Skype phone ..if you get the volume settings right. If you don't need to use your Mac for the phone calls - via Skype - why not just forget about using the Mac to record things, and use a device which is meant for making simple recordings ..that's to say a cassette recorder, or Mini-Disc recorder, plus a microphone, plus a telephone with a loudspeaker in it, so that you can easily record both sides of the conversation?

Probably the best forum for this question would be one for your Mac model as it is not about a specific Apple software program. Since your profile doesn't give that information, I can't provide you a link to the appropriate forum. However, I can give you a link to a program that can record phone conversations on your Mac. Take a look at Phone Valet by Parliant.

  • App for Recording Phone Conversations?

Is there an app which can record phone conversations?
I read that the iphone cancels 3rd party apps when there is a phone call... So is there an apple app which can record phone conversations?

Rather than arguing about "when" they make this announcement, let's just agree that we've all heard this message ("This call may be recorded for quality purposes") with several companies we have called.
I wasn't arguing with you. My response was aimed directly at your question.
Ironic: I wonder if the iPhone support phone number answers with "this call may be recorded for quality purposes".
My point has nothing to do with your response.
So? Then don't include such a question.
And we have heard this message with all companies in the U.S. that may record a portion of the conversation. A company that doesn't record any part of the conversation has no need to include such a notice/warning.
My point is that there are Legal ways to use a phone recorder in the Unites States. It is not Apple's job (or Job's Apple) to regulate that usage, and that is why I question the lack of a Recorder that has the ability to record my calls.
You can question this here until you are blue in the face which won't change anything, not if Apple is against including this feature regardless their reason or reasons.
Apple is within their right to include or not include a phone recorder or any other feature with the iPhone, and you are within your right to purchase another device that includes a phone recorder if this is something you need/want and would use on a regular basis.

  • What bit rate to record for editing with iMovie?

I just bought a Sony hd pj260 video cam and need to know what to set the bit rate for shooting to edit on a MacBook pro using iMovie (snow leopard). I have a choice of 60p (28 M), 60i (24 M) or 60i (17M). I'm sure these will mean something to someone. They currently are Greek to me. Can someone advise me please. Leaving for vacation in a couple of days....
    Thanks
    DJ

60P wlll not work with iMovie, unless you are comfortable hacking the internals of iMovie.
60i will work and the higher bit rate, the better.
    Best would be 30P.

  • Recording IM conversation with Audacity

I was wondering if anyone on the podcast section here is using Audacity for recording IM conversations, or if it is even possible.
I am looking to record and instant message conversation over MSN or AIM. The other person does not have iChat, so apparently I cannot do the dual track recording in Garageband. Now I have used Audacity on Windows before, and I know that it can record the streaming internal audio from the soundcard. In the past when I used it on windows I was able to effectively record just about any sound on my computer.
Is this feature still available on the Mac version of Audacity? If so I should be able to theoretically record any audio, such as an IM conversation that is streaming through the souncard/chip.

Audacity isn't the best or easiest program to be using.
    Here is what you do.
Both people download Skype, it is free. http://www.skype.com/
And then buy Audio Hijack Pro, it is only $32 (US) http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/
The support for setting up Audio Hijack is well layed out and works great.
    Good luck

  • Recording an Interview with iMovie 08

    Hi.
I'm taking my little iMovie hobby a little more serious these days. I want to make something a little more than "ooh, look!", something more like "wow, Scott. That's pretty good!".
SO I'm aiming for a coupla HV20s. I love the capture of them. I want to do some interviews and things, so I'll need some lights. What works best, some hot lights in a reflector, or hot lights in softboxes? Or umbrellas? I don't want to go the Home Depot route. I looked at some Impact lights, and they're rather inexpensive, but the quality is decent. How many watts, also: 250? 500?
Would you recommend any particular brand?
    Thx,
    Scott

May I add a second microphone to GarageBand and get two separate vocal tracks?
yes, you can create an aggregate device for multiple inputs:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
although this short video tutorial is made with os x 10.9 and GBv10, the principles are the same for 10.6 and earlier versions of GB:

Also, which external microphones do you like for recording interviews?  The Blue Snowball is very bulky
you can take a look at the Samson here:

but im not sure that it's any less bulky.

  • HELP: Recording IChat Conversation with GarageBand - Will not respond

    Hi guys,
I recently recorded an important conversation on IChat video with someone using GarageBand (the voice part) but before stopping recording on GB I closed the video chat window. I think that messed up to the recording and now the GB will not respond (Rainbow disk keeps spinning) I know I could just force quit but I don't want to lose the conversation it was 2 hours of work (REALLY IMPORTANT WORK) If anyone could offer some advice of what I should do I don't want to Force Quit incase there is a solution. Thank you so much for any help and I really need it so if anyone has any advice please tell me ASAP!!!
    Thanks Again!
    Harry

Here's what you should try. Locate the folder where the recordings are stored:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/AIFFsStored.html
Don't mess with the contents but make a copy of the Media folder (by alt-dragging it to the Desktop, for example). Then force-quit GB and try to open your project again. If your tracks aren't there, try to rescue them from the copy you made!

  • Record Phone conversation to mac?

I would like to start recording some conference calls for my business from my phone to my mac. Does anyone know how you can do this?
Also, I am looking for a free way to do so. I know there are some softwares out there but I think all I need to do is buy a certain wire.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Dorian,
You might want to try TRx Phone Recording Software.
    I hope that helps,

  • Recording Phone Conversations Directly To LE7

I've searched the forums, but to no avail.
    So...
I have a VOIP land line and would like to record directly
to LE7. Has anyone had any luck doing this?
    TIA

    Hi,
I'm no VOIP expert, so, just curious: is there already any program on your computer that can make the VOIP line audible?? In that perhaps case you could use Jack OS X ( http://www.jackosx.com/ ) to route that signal to Logic.
At least, when something is audible through your computer speakers, you can always use Wiretap to record that and load the recorded aif-file in Logic afterwards.
As said, I'm no VOIP expert, so maybe the above is useless??!!
Another trick that will DEFINITELY work is to use one of these coils that you can stick onto the your phone. Then you could record this analog signal to Logic.
I've recorded a friend of mine singing an idea through the telephone a couple of times using an old coil coming from a broken electric toothbrush... low fi, but good enough for capturing the idea

    Jaap

  • How do I request a transcript of a Verizon Customer Service phone conversation that I asked to be reviewed?

On 2/11 I had a recorded phone conversation with a Verizon Supervisor.  We had a dispute about what was offered and I asked that the tapes be reviewed to settle the dispute.  I was told the tapes would be reviewed and I would receive a text with the results.  As of now, I have received no return text with the results.  How do I request a transcript of our conversation.

First of all, Verizon only states your conversation MAY be recorded, not that it WILL be recorded.
It also states they are for "training purposes", not for providing transcripts to Verizon customers.
I doubt you will be able to get either a copy of the recording, if there is one, or a transcript.
