Recording/Playback on DVD Player

I've already programmed my Verizon remote control to my DVD/VCR player.  Which remote control do I use to record and playback.   I'm recording from DVD to VCR (VHS Tape).  Also, do I have to change TV input for DVD player?  TV is currently Video 1.  I had DIRECTV and had to set to Video 3 for DVD Player.  Any assistance is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Go to Solution.

I called Verizon FiOS Tech Support for help with my dilemma.  You have to change the video channel from Video 1 (TV) to Video 3 (Audio/Video) first.  First, press the DVD button at the top of the Verizon Remote Control;  second, press the TV button also at top;  third, press the A/V input button at the bottom of remote control until Video Channel is on Video 3.  Use your DVD/VCR Remote Control to control record, play, etc.  I hope this helps someone who may have the same problem I had.  Good luck!

  • Can't record sound from DVD player

I just built a new DAW with a Gigabyte MoBo that has the Realtek sound chip on board. I installed an M-Audio external Fast Track Pro connected to the computer with USB 2.0. With the two sound devices I can play Band in a Box (my main band) through the Realtek and out put to my mixer. I then use my Line 6 Pod XT as a preamp to my guitar that also goes to my Behringer mixer. I connect the main out (R&L) from the mixer to the 1 and 2 inputs on the M-audio. I set Audio Hardware setup in AA3 to use the M Audio device for input and am able to record mixer output to tracks in AA3. I tried several configs and this is the only one that I found that works. All is good so far.
I installed a SATA DVD player (Lite on 24x) that works fine, but it plays through the M-Audio via USB, bypassing the Realtek chip, and the sound does not show up in AA3. I'm thinking I need to route the DVD output to the mixer to use the channel that is already set up. I've been trying to output the DVD player through the onboard Realtek but can't find any way to direct it to do so. I don't necessarily need it to play through the Realtek, but I want to be able to record from the DVD player.
So, does anyone have any idea how to direct the output of the DVD player to the sound card of choice? I'm stumped.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • IDVD slideshow won't pause on playback on DVD player. Why?

Why can't I pause an iDVD slideshow on playback?
I make iDVD slideshows and after burning the disk, it will not pause when I push the pause button during playback on a DVD player.

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie. Get iDVD.

  • Echo problem during playback on DVD player.

    Hey,
I exported my edited movie from AP CS3 onto my computer. I recorded my audio in a fairly large room, so I expected to get some echo.
Anyways, the export on my computer is fine. Sounds great, for stereo sound, everything is fine. When I author a DVD and play it in my player, or with an entertainment system, the voices and sounds echo so badly, that it distracts from the film.
I'm not sure what's going on, as it's quite fine on my computer.
Can anyone help me out? The file on my computer is a H264 video codec with AAC sound. When exporting to DVD from premiere, it's a MPEG 2 something or other.
It sounds like the Stereo tracks have been layered on each other or something. Quite bad echo.
    Thanks.

Best guess is that your computer speakers just aren't up to the task of correct audio playback, that the other system has greater dynamic range and allows better audio fidelity.
That's not surprising, most computer speakers aren't sufficient for proper audio monitoring.

  • IDVD slideshow DVD pauses video and audio during playback...messages about sleeping DVD player

I have just burned a slideshow on iDVD from iPhoto book project. During playback, the DVD player pauses with photo visible and audio stops for same time, and then resumes after about 5 seconds. I thought the MP3 (purchased from Amazon because it was not in iTunes) format may have been the issue, so, I converted to AAC, and rebuilt slideshow from scratch using AAC music. During Preview playback, the problem does NOT exhibit...only when played from produced DVD on both computer or DVD player. I only have this one pause at same time on every DVD burned. Is AIFF a probable solution? I saw a message saying DVD player "Sleeping" or "DVD player waked from sleeping" at beginning and end of this pause.

Whoa!!! I'd back up here and make sure you have your "T" s crossed before your continue with 10,000 discs! What were your bitrates for the main track and Bonus features? Did you use AC3 audio? DVD has a bitrate ceilings of 9.8 for video. Its also important you check your bitrates in a viewer to makes sure your OK.
Bitrates are the most crucial part to control in DVD.

  • How to I burn an imovie for playback on DVD?

I'm brand new to MacBook and imovie. I created a movie burned it a DVD, but it won't play on my DVD player. What is the correct process for burning an imovie project for playback on DVD player?

If you like to make DVDs, give iMovie 06 a try.
I use both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06, if I want to make a DVD I prefer iMovie 06. iMovie 08 is not as DVD friendly as iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 has replaced "Share to iDVD" with "Share to media browser". Also iMovie 08 cannot set chapter markers, this has to be done with another program.
When using iMovie 06, one mouse click will set a chapter marker EXACTLY where you specify. In just a few seconds set all your chapter markers. When you are done editing just "share to iDVD 08" and all of your chapter markers will be there!
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.
Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

  • I set up Apple TV & now my DVD player won't display on my TV.

I have changed nothing about my original set-up. Cable box/DVR to TV (coaxial). Cable box/DVR to DVD player (RCA). DVD player to TV (RCA). Apple TV to TV (HDMI). And disconnecting the Apple TV box from the TV didn't fix it so whatever happened, it's not in the wiring and this also makes it even more frustrating because now I can't just go back to what it was before I plugged in the ATV box. Also I didn't change any of the settings on my TV other than hitting the button to switch back and forth from the HDMI device, unless I did it without being aware of it. The TV is still in full communication with the cable box and Apple TV works perfectly. I feel like it's something really simple and I just can't see it. Please help!

Do check all cables are plugged in properly bot to TV and all boxes as it's easy to dislodge them.   Not sure why you need DVD player connected over RCA to both the cable box and the TV - did you used to play the DVD player through the cable box? There may be an input selection on cable box Remote to choose it.  Unlikely that the DVR can record from the DVD player - I'd expect it to only record cable, if it could record external source macrovision would probably prevent DVD from recording properly.
I doubt it's anything specifically to do with AppleTV unless it's forcing the non-coaxial source (often labelled AV on the remote with TV for co-axial signals either analogue or digital) selection to HDMI all the time.  Have you tried unplugging HDMI?
Check your TV manual - some TVs allow you to 'remove' certain AV inputs from the selectable list if not in use and you or someone might have inadvertently done so.
It may be a case of disconnecting all devices and re-adding individually or one at a time to see how best to configure the non-HDMI inputs - reduce the number of potential competing variables.

  • Apple DVD Player Question

    Hi,
I'm not sure this is the right forum, but you guys are always very helpful.
I need to make the Apple DVD Player basically a kiosk player.
I have a track ball and a button for enter so that is how you navigate the dvd.
I need to make it in full kiosk mode, meaning no controller on screen.
Does anyone know how to turn off the controller so it doesn't pop up?
    Thanks,
    Dave

You can't disable the controller, but you can drag it out of view.
From to the DVD Player help document (search word: kiosk):
    Setting up a movie kiosk
You can set up a computer to show a movie but not allow users to stop it or otherwise control its playback using DVD Player's menus. This is useful, for example, if you want to play a self-running movie in a public booth.
To control movie playback in kiosk mode, you must use the keyboard. If you want, you can remove the keyboard and connect a mouse directly to the computer after the movie is ready to start.
Be sure the DVD Player Controller is also hidden if you do not want viewers to use it.
Users can still select items from the disc menus by using the mouse, but cannot use DVD Player menus because the menu bar is hidden.
    1. Choose DVD Player > Preferences, and then click Full Screen.
    2. Select the checkbox labeled "Kiosk Mode (disable menu bar)."
    3. To control DVD Player in kiosk mode, use the DVD Player keyboard shortcuts.
DVD Player usually ignores your computer's screen saver and sleep settings so full screen playback is not interrupted.
To allow any automatic screen saver or sleep settings to take effect after a period of inactivity, select "Allow Screensaver on DVD menu in kiosk mode" in the Full Screen pane of DVD preferences. To remain in kiosk mode when exiting the screen saver, also select the "Remain in full screen when DVD Player is inactive" preference. Otherwise, DVD Player exits kiosk mode when exiting the screen saver.

  • How to connect JVC DVd player and video cassette recorder to QIP 7100 and Panasonic TC-32lx44

What cables do I need to connect my DVD/VCR recorder through my QIP 7100 to see on my TV? I would appreciate any assistance with this since I am a novice.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You cannot run ANY signal through a Set top box to a Television. The only input on the boxes that is actually functional is the coaxial cable. The only way your are going to connect your DVD player to the TV is via one of the AV inputs on the Television itself.
Hopefully your Television has at least 2 sets of AV inputs, because you are going to need them. 1 for the VCR and 1 for the DVD player.
Depending upon the TV, VCR and DVD player, the connections possible are:
1). HDMI cable from TV to DVD if the DVD player has HDMI and the TV has a 2nd HDMI input. It is very unlikely your VCR supports HDMI.
2). Component Video (RGB) plus Audio AV cables from audio and component outputs on the DVD player to a set of component and coresponding audio inputs on the Television. It is unlikely that your VCR supports component video.
3). S-VHS cable from DVD player or VCR  to S-VHS input on the TV (if there is one), and audio AV cables from the audio outputs on the DVD/VCR player to the corresponding audio input on the TV for the S-VHS cable. If S-VHS is not available, you can use composite video instead. HDMI and Component video will give you the best picture and composite video will give you the lowest quality picture, but depending upon the equipment, your VCR may not have an S-VHS output available.

I have a football game recorded on a DVD+R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.  My MacBook operating system is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.  DVD Player is App version 5.0.3, framework version 5.0.7.
However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops.  My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9.  The DVD Player is version 4.0.  My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2.  The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0.  The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.
