Recording Produces Sped Up Garbled Sound

(Recording Produces Sped Up Garbled Soundp Hi folks,
I have a X-Fi Platinum Fataity, running on Win XP SP3.
I have been using the card without issue for a fair few months, and of late have been using it to record podcasts with an external mic and mixer. Today I tried to record - with Creative Sound Recorder - and the result was <a rel="nofollow" href="http://stainlesssteelrat.net/_What U Hear__06-0-2009_7-25-38.mp3]this (click link to download MB MP3 file)[/url]. It sounds like a partly garbled and partly sped up file to me.
I tried recording with Creative WaveStudio 7, same problem. Tried recording with Windows Sound Recorder, same problem.
I then ran Autoupdate, and updated the drivers as well as all the applications it found. Same problem.
Any ideas as to what is wrong?
TIA

,Re: Recording Produces Sped Up Garbled Sound( Thanks for the reply.
Yep, it's in Audio Creation mode. I can't spot any relevant recording settings in the Audio Control panel, although none of these have been changed since the install. I'm 99.9% sure it isn't the microphone, as the recordings all appear slowed down, hence the playback is sped up. I don't see how the microphone itself would/could affect that. I have tested both the line in on the soundcard, and on the I/O panel. Still the same problem.
In fact if I just record the Windows environment, by playing a music track and using Smart Recorder with "What U Hear", it *still* records in a slowed down fashion, and in turn produces a sped up recording. So it cannot be related to the microphone.
Could this be a faulty soundcard?

  • Scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3s files

I'm having really horrible scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3 files. AAC encoded files play extremely clearly on iTunes 10.5

After reviewing all comments, it appears that this issue is squarely with the 10.5 upgrade that Apple did on I tunes. I have done all the uninstall and re-install that you can do.  Songs play fine on some, terrible on others, but yet they all will play on Windows Media Player. I can't believe it is the chipset for those that AMD processors, because everything was fine on the 10.4.  So,  Apple please fix this or offer us a way to uninstall from the 10.5 to the 10.4 where everything should be okay.   Awaiting your reply with thousands of others!

  • Question Random Distorted / Garbled Sound In Windows XP Home

I have laptop Pavilion dv5282ea and sometimes sound gets garbled / distorted. Listen to this. Note that this happens only when music/video is playing, i mean only when there should be any sound coming off. I had this problem in the beginning when i purchased laptop, but as a few years passed by, problem disappeared. 2 weeks ago i formatted and reinstalled Windows XP and now this problem came up again. Should i put headphones on, or listen through built-in speakers, problem is still there which should indicate that the problem is with sound card or drivers. When i am watching online video, the problem happens, but i have noticed that if i start playing music in Winamp, the problem disappears or sometimes gets gets garbled, until i stop music from playing. I often heard this garbled sound after resuming from standby.
My audio driver version is 3.23.0.0. I installed latest driver 3.23.0.0 A but nothing changed and it still shows old driver.
What should i do to fix this problem?

Can you please download the latest BIOS update for your notebook and also update Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646). I would also recommend you to update the Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7 and this should resolve your issue.

  • Reports of 17.0.0.169 with garbled sound and vid on rtmp streaming w/jwplayer?

    Hello Adobe,
I run a website that uses live streaming rtmp to the jwplayer6 video player.  Starting today, some viewers who downloaded Adobe Flash player 17.0.0.169 are getting very garbled sound and video that speeds up/slows down.  This is happening on a number of users on various platforms: Win 7, Win 8.1, Linux and various browsers; Firefox, Safari, Opera, and IE (reported so far).  Some folks are reporting it happens only on Firefox and not Chrome.  Thoughts?  How to proceed?  We are telling our users, unfortunately, uninstall the latest version of Flash and rollback.

    Hi Jeromie,
I'm and end user getting disastrous garbling and speeding via Ustream Streams. One broadcaster I watch was able to almost elimate the issue by reducing the quality of the outgoing content I believe.  It would be beneficial if you contacted Ustream yourself so they can notify their subscribers of a work around.

    Hi Simon,
I'm really sorry to hear that your event may be impacted.  I'd highly recommend that you reach out to Ustream.  We would be more than happy to share technical details with them on how to configure the streams to work around the issue.  We will have a public beta available for download before your event at http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayerbeta/, but realize that this is a sub-optimal solution.
Ustream employees can send me a private message via the forums (just click my name), and I'll be more than happy to put them in contact with an engineer that can offer guidance.
    Thanks,

I would think a 15" with the i7 CPU. You can get a 13" with the i7 CPU but the 15" has a dedicated graphic chip along with the intergrated one.
You will also need to upgrade the hard drive to a faster 7200RPM model instead of the standard 5400RPM model that comes with all MBPs. The Sibelius website recommends the 7200RPM or a SSD. You will also be better off installing 8GBs of RAM.
Both of those upgrades can be made after you buy a MBP for much less then Apple charges for the same upgrades and you get to keep the original RAM and hard drive.

  • X-fi Xtream audio and sonar 6 producer...recording "what you here" garbled

I just purchased this Xtream Audio card and installed it but when I start Cakewalk Sonar 6 Producer the wave profiler states that there is no stereo capable sound device available. The card is working as sound is produced through the speakers and the suite opens with no problems.
When I record via "what you hear" the sound is garbled.
I have a pentium D Dual Core 2.66hz with 4 GB RAM(3.25GB available) and the onboard sound device has been un-installed.
I have tried reloading the drivers and software to no avail.
I removed the card and enabled the cheap onboard sound and it works with no problems. "what you hear" records without the gabled sound.
All effects have been disabled. Sonar and Card are set to record at 44111.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi jutapa,
I was using WDM/KS. the asio will not work. when I change to asio and restart the program there is no sound card listed or available. I was using the "what you hear" because I am recording internal MIDI files with VSTi plugins to convert to a wave file and I have no idea of any other way to do this. I works fine with the intergraded sound drivers but not with this new card. This is why I think that the card or drivers are damaged. I downloaded new drivers from the website but they didn't work either.
Asio4all should work well with your card - http://www.asio4all.com
    - you'll get lower latency (down to 2-3 ms instead of 10ms as with WDM/KS)
Remember also enable those input/output drivers (Options->Audio->drivers -tab)
Rendering MIDI + VSTi/DXi to a wav file is done by "bounce to track(s)". It's well covered in Sonar documentation and online help:
To Convert Your Soft Synth Tracks to New Audio Tracks
Mute all tracks that you don't want to convert.
Use the Edit-Bounce to Track(s) command.
The Bounce to Track(s) dialog box appears.
In the Destination field, choose a new or pre-existing track to put the new audio data on.
If you've saved presets from previous bounce operations, you can choose a preset from the Preset field.
In the Source Category field, choose Tracks.
In the Channel Format field, choose mono if you want a mono track, stereo if you want a stereo track, and split mono if you want to create separate mono tracks.
In the Source/Buses field, choose the output bus(es) that the soft synth tracks are using (usually the main outputs).
In the Mix Enables field, make sure all choices are selected.
    Click OK.
SONAR creates new audio tracks from the outputs you selected. When you're through converting, don't forget to mute your MIDI tracks so you won't hear them and the new audio track(s) at the same time.
Note: you control the bit depth of all rendering operations (bouncing, freezing, applying effects) on the Audio Data tab of the Global Options dialog (Options-Global command) in the Render Bit Depth field. The default value of 32 is the best for most situations. See Bit Depths for Rendering Audio for more information.
Converting MIDI to AudioWhen you finally get your MIDI project into the shape you want, you can convert the MIDI tracks to audio for export as Wave, MP3, or other file formats. If you are using external MIDI modules, just record the outputs of your modules into your sound card. If you are using soft synths, use the File-Export-Audio command, or the Edit-Bounce to Track(s) command. If you are using the built-in synthesizer in your sound card to produce MIDI sounds, you can use your sound card's "What You Hear" or wave capture function to convert the MIDI tracks, if your sound card can function this way. See the following procedure:
To Convert MIDI to AudioPick a destination audio track (or create a new one) and set the Input field to Stereo (name of your sound card).
Note: If you have more than one sound card installed, select the one that has the built-in synth that your MIDI tracks use.
Arm the destination track. Make sure its Input Echo button is off, so you won't hear an echo when you're recording.
Mute any tracks that you don't want to record to the destination track.
Open your sound card's mixer device. This is normally done by double-clicking the speaker icon on your Windows taskbar, or by choosing Start-Programs-Accessories-Entertainment-Volume Control-Options-Properties.
Note: Some sound cards have their own proprietary mixer. If yours has one, please use it instead.
If you're using the Windows mixer, use its Options-Properties command to open the Properties dialog box, click Recording (in the Adjust Volume For field), and make sure all boxes in the Show the Following Volume Controls field are checked.
Click OK, and locate the slider marked MIDI, Synth, Mixed Input, or What You Hear. Check the Select box at the bottom, then close the window.
In SONAR, rewind to the beginning of your project, click the Record button, and click the Stop button when you're done recording.
SONAR records all the MIDI tracks that are assigned to your sound card synth as a stereo audio track.
After you finish recording, mute the MIDI tracks that you just recorded so you don't hear them and the new audio track at the same time.
There are good tutorials you can go through to learn using Sonar features.

  • IMic and telephone recorder produces buzz

I'm trying to use the GB3 Podcast feature to record and produce interviews for later broadcast on our town's local radio station. I've bought a telephone recorder and hooked it to an iMic so that I can record interviews over the phone onto my PowerBook G4. It's working great except for the fact that as I record the telephone conversation, I get a ubiquitous buzz on the track. I'm recording the phone conversation onto one track, and no matter how I change the settings thus far, the buzz remains. This could have something to do with an extra jack on the phone recorder, but the iMic has no receptacle for it so I just leave it dangling. The extra jack looks like a 3.5mm -- the size of a cell phone headset jack (for those of us without bluetooth headsets). I suppose it could also be due to the fact that I'm using a cordless phone: am I getting a buzz from the radio signal to the phone handset somehow? Alternatively, could I edit the buzz out in the track editing window by clipping that part of the sound wave? Any insight anyone can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Andrew, "un-buzzing" a recorded track is virtually impossible, since buzzes tend to cover a broad frequency spectrum. You can try the 31-band graphic equalizer (under the AU effects) and selectively null the affected frequencies, but don't expect too much.
As for the source of the buzz: hard to diagnose from the distance, you should try to analyse your chain step by step. Have you got another device that you can plug the phone device into, like a tape recorder or MD recorder - just to see if the buzz is already there before the signal enters the iMic? That would help finding the source.

  • Logic synths any good for producing ambient/meditative/spacescape sounds?

    Hi
I'm thinking of switching from a PC/Cubase to Mac/Logic Studio. However there are loads and loads of smaller synths/vsts that only run on the PC.
Are the synths in Logic Studio any good at producing ambient/meditation/spacescape/atmospheric types sounds?(or does anybody know of any VSTs that are? Atmosphere is a bit pricey and I already have Absynth).
The sort of sounds I'm interested in are by synths such as these:

    Thanks

Hi, I have to say I'm not familiar with parallels or fusion (I'll check them out though thanks). But it sounds interesting. I have held off installing windows on my mac because I want to become familiar with OSX before I get involved(if ever). I have tried running logic 8 and cubase 4 together and that was interesting. Mainly because the atmosphere plugin (which runs on a wrapper basis under logic / intel at the moment) actually worked within cubase 4 on my intel mac(as the old vst which did not use rosseta(I think?), and quite well. The problem I had was I could play atmosphere from within logic, in cubase with my virus ti as a controller but it would not play back after recording, but that was because the ti was setup in both progs as the midi input! I was amazed it actually worked to some degree. It really boils down to what it is you want to achieve I suppose. I have spent most of this year waiting for software updates so I can a) get stuff fully working on the intel mac platform, and of course, being the fool that I am, b) waiting for updates so they could once again work with leopard! When I think back to the days of me, my atari and my akai sampler, I used to get stuff done! Now i just seem to be looking for updates all the time.... No excuses though, they were my decisions! Ah well, it's all good fun I suppose. Not much help i'm afraid....Cheers.

  • K72NG-ILSR media plays too fast / garbled sound

Using both Windows Media Player and Winamp. Both video and audio playback is too fast in both programs. The video skips frames and the audio skips and sounds garbled. However, when I play sound through Windows Sound Recorder, it is OK. Playback is also OK using WinDVD player. I was directed by MSI support to download the latest group of drivers, entitled "Nvidia nForce2 System Driver" at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1 . Will one of you guys with a similar setup please go to Device Manager and tell me what version of audio driver & Codec driver is the latest for the onboard sound? I'm not sure this is the problem, but it is a good place to start.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • V7 Major Playback Bug - Garbled Sound

Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.
In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.
I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.
    Using Windows XP, SP2
    2 Gig RAM
    2 Terabytes Data storage
    AMD 4800 Dual processor
