Recording ReWire tracks and Softsynths

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyones found out how to route a rewire track to an audio track. And how to route a soft synth (post fx) to an audio track for recording.
Couldnt be done in 7. Was hoping it ould be done in 8

Route the softsynth to a Bus and use that Bus as an input for an Audio track (this is now possible in L8). If the FX is coming from another Bus/Aux then route that to the recording Bus as well.

  • Record rewire track to audio track

    Hello
I route the rewire input into an audio track in logic. Can I record the rewire signal directly to this audio track? (even multi-record when routing several rewire tracks into several Logic audio tracks?)
I can here rewire just fine - but when I rec-enable the tracks and press the record button on the transport - it does not record the rewire input.
    Anyone? Help appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
So with non-real-time bouncing I could go a bit above 100% cpu strain, right? (as I have currently between 80-90% and would like to add a bit of Ozone).
Am I nuts or is there no option in Logic Pro(?) to bounce to 32bit float? I can bounce to mp3 but not to 32 bit float?

  • Recording 16 tracks and play movie on Macbook pro

    Hi
Has anyone experience with recording 16 tracks 24 bits and play in the same time a movie on a new Macbook pro 2,16 on a secondary screen ?
On my G5 it's no problem.
    Thanks

Hmm... I do recall there was some kind of external USB2 video input device. I think it was from ATI though i may be mistaken. One of there All-In-Wonder devices.
Regardless, such devices do exist, though they are likely only composite, S-Video, or F-Connecter based, and will likely have some form of latency issues.
You may want to look around to see if there any form of ExpressCard capture devices. The ExpressCard slot is is capable up fill PCI Express speeds around 2.5Giga bits per second, so I suppose it does have sufficient bandwidth to capture say Component or HDMI video. Though I'm not sure if such a device even exists.

  • What is the new key command to re-record a track- and delete the old one?

It used to be the - (minus) button on logic pro 7. I haven't been able to find it in the new one. or in the pdf manual. Anybody know of hand?
    thank you

Open the Key Command window. Choose any command. Hit the learn button and type in the command. A message will appear telling you what the command is already assigned to. Then you can change it.

  • Recording rewire objects in Logic 7

Ok, I finally got Reason to play through an Aux track in Logic, awesome. Now the next question...how do you "RECORD" the audio signal? My Aux tracks don't give me an arming button, so how do you record it?? Any help would be much appreciated...
    John

You don't have to record rewire tracks.
It's like having a mixer: Reason audio goes into Logic mixer.
When you bounce you will find in the mix Reason audio too.
If you want to manage all the Reason parts in Logic then you'll have to Export to audio in Reason and then import the audio files in Logic.

  • How to record multiple tracks together?

Ok, completely new to garage band, but I don't see why this is so difficult to figure out. I get how to record a track, and then play it as a loop. But how do I then record something new WITH that loop, so that the two tracks play together (and not just record over it, deleting the first track). For example, how can I record a rhythm part on the guitar, stop it, hit the loop button, and then record a solo over it? Everytime I try this it either records over the first recording (deleting it), or even though it looks like its recording when I stop and hit play I am still only hearing the first track. Very frustrating...
    Thanks!!!!

You create a second track for the solo and record to the second track, then play both tracks together.
Use the "Record enable" button in the track header to enable only the solo guitar track for recording, once your rhythm loop has been recorded.

  • How do I make fades in MIDI tracks without recording the track first

I have "RTFM";s and spent 2 hours at an Apple store with their resident "Logic Pro specialist" who was also unable to use the transform window to, basically, make [assign] a tool for, in this case, fading every dotted quarter note in the whole song, there must be a Widget wiz out there who could make one that could be used as a dedicated tool for adjustable MIDI fades. Yes, I could bounce[record]the track and edit the Audio file but almost all options as far as tempo, key, etc. are lost-wasn't this the reason for MIDI as opposed to analog? no, the degradation of copy/cut in analog sound opposed to digital mode is the reason, it's a pity no one from Apple seems to care about their own products enough to read these forums, stuck in traffic probably, crying all the way to the Bank. Thanks in advance for all the help!

    Hi,
From what I read in your post, there is a MIDI performance which contains dotted quarter notes, which you would like to fade out before the note ends. Am I correct?
What I have done in the past, and I do this to an AUDIO track... is to use a gate. I set it so that it closes x milliseconds aftdr opening, and closes at a rate of X milliseconds.
So I recommend you render the dotted quarter notes and use an audio gate to accomplish this task.
Or, you can spend hours trying to do it in MIDI-land. And fail. This will get you there in about 3-5 minutes of fiddling.
I have tried before to do it with a MIDI gate, but... they are not as flexible or good-sounding as the audio one.
Of course, you'll end up "losing" your ability to change the tempo etc... BUT, you can always keep the Midi performance, and re-print a version at a new tempo if that is what you need to do. I do this alll the time, with one caveat: I find the key and tempo FIRST, before doign the basic tracking. Then that is no longer an issue. But you can do it any other way you like.
    Cheers

  • I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.
Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes.
But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

  • I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

  • No Great Solution for Record Multi-Voice Tracks and Edit for Mac? :(

Let me see if I've finally got this right.
I've got FinalCut Studio Pro which comes with SoundTrack Pro.
    I've got Logic Express.
SoundTrack Pro cannot record from different channels from my Mixer, but it can edit pretty well and apply effects, such as Normalization, Silences and whatnot.
Logic can record from different channels from my mixer but has no editing capabilities, except Garage-band-like and even there, GB seems to offer more. That is there's no normalization or other things.
Okay, I accept that. But what I don't get is that in order to do something as simple as Record a podcast that has a Host on mic and 1 or 2 Skype callers coming into a Mixer (Mackie Onyx) and that mixer is routed to the Mac. In order to record each person on a different track, I have to:
Load Logic and record the tracks individually.
Export the Tracks as individual audio files.
Import them into SoundTrack Pro and edit them there.
Export them from SoundTrack to disk.
re-Import them into Logic (or Garage Band) and export them ("mixdown") as MP3 (SoundTrack won't export as MP3).
    Wow, that's very unexpected.
If I'm missing something, please let me know. This seems like a lot of "make fit" just to emulate what can be done in Adobe Audition on the PC. (Sadly, Audition doesn't run on Mac.)

I suppose my question is more along the lines of what solution (I've purchased them all) allows you to Record and Edit multiple spoken tracks of audio?
    I've purchased:
    SoundTrack Pro
    SoundBooth
    Logic Express
    Audacity
and of course I've upgraded to iLife 09.
If one of these tools could allow you to select a section of audio from 1, 2, 3, or all tracks and delete it with a "Ripple Delete" option, then I'd be a happy guy.
    Right now:
GarageBand doesn't allow you to delete and shift-left "ripple delete".
As for Logic, I don't see ripple delete either.
SoundTrack does do this but it only allow me to edit one Track at a time--open them all, but edit one, then the other, then the other. Lots of flipping around.
With Audition (which is limited to Windows) I can select a section of 1, 2, 3, or all tracks, and delete that section, ripple or not.
FYI: "Ripple" is a Final Cut Pro term.
To be honest, no that I think about it... FinalCut Pro may be the best solution. Load everythign into it as separate tracks and have at it--at least it does it.
Remember, I'm not a musician, nor do I record music, only audio for podcasting. (but don't equate "podcasting" to Video-podcasting as most people do).
Anyway, my solution will be to load Virtual Box on the Mac. Record using Logic (which did a great job of recording onto multiple tracks) and then bring those AIF files into Adobe Audition under Windows in VirtualBox--or perhaps on a Networked PC.
Of course the other solution (and perhaps less painful) would be to simply abandon the Mac entirely and move all this stuff onto the PC and only use the Mac for FinalCut Pro work. What a huge disappointment that would be.

  • Why do I keep losing audio/recorded tracks and SFX in my projects? I have tried: Saving as archive file/searching package contents etc. to no avail. Can anyone help?

Why do I keep losing audio/recorded tracks and SFX in my projects? I have tried: Saving as archive file/searching package contents etc. to no avail. Can anyone help? It keeps telling me 'Audio file not found', and seems to be different tracks in the same project each time too.

I also have this problem using Garageband in a school network situation when students open their project on one station, save it to their network drive, and later open it at a different station.  90% of the time there will be no issue, but sometimes audio files are lost. (Garageband '11, iMacs)
That sounds like it might be a failure of the students to perform a Save As and check Archive Project when they do. This asks GB to pull all the files it needs into the associated .band document rather than point to them externally (and then risk not having them be there).

  • I am getting an Narration error that I can't record because one of the record-enabled tracks is locked in the timeline. What does this mean and how do I get out of it??

I am getting an Narration error that I can't record because one of the record-enabled tracks is locked in the timeline. What does this mean and how do I get out of it??

    Thanks for the update.
There are several Adobe Premiere Elements Forum threads about situation such as the one that you have encountered. Typically they are the results of some heavy activity in the narration track.  Some have found success in maneuvers between the Expert and Quick workspaces in versions 11 and 12 or Timeline and Sceneline workspaces in versions earlier than 11. That is why I mentioned that type of factor in a prior post in your thread.
If that is not working, then we are forced into the new project where the problems in the current project are not presenting.
I will do a search for the threads that I am recalling about your type of issue. But, right now all roads seem to head to the new project. But I would ask "Can you salvage this project by creating your narration clips in Audacity or a new Premiere Elements project and import them into this project, putting the clips on one of the numbered audio tracks?"
If the problem should reappear in the new project, please let us know including the details of what was going on immediate before the problem surfaced.
    Thanks.

  • Multi-track recording with GB1 and GB2

I recently purchased a new RME Fireface 800 and want to begin recording multi-track audio.
I plan to purchase DP in the future but have spent my $ allocation for now and want to be able to at least get started using something simple and cheap like GB. I currently have GB1 and have learned from experience that it does not support multi-track recording. If GB2 does I will UG.
Has anyone successfully recorded 8 tracks simultaneously with GB2 and if so how?

I finally got around to fixing a typo in the anchor for the above link, but instead of adding it, i replaced the typo which breaks the above link. The correct (and hopefully final) URL is:

Thanks for responding. Everything seems to work right except for the when I plug into the 737. Ok let me see if I can be more clear. I had this set up done with two representatives of Neumann, and DBox. Here it is I hope this helps. 32 Channel snake (24 Inputs 8 outputs) Channels 1-8 from snake to my Octopre for Drums. From Octropre output quarter inch lines into the Apollo 2, quarter inch input. This is so that the Apollo 2 is taking the drum tracks. Snake Channel 9-12 into Apollo 1 channels 1-4 xlr. Snake Channel 13-16 into Apollo 2 Channels 1-4 xlr. Snake Channel 17 into the 737, output of 737 into Channel 5 of the Apollo 1 quarter inch.
Ok The Dbox. Sum output L&R into channel input 7&8 of Apollo 1. Apollo 1 output channels 1-8 into summing input channel 1-8 of Dbox. Apollo 1 main L&R going to main analog input L&R of Dbox. Spid out to DAW input of Dbox. I have both ADAT of both Apollos connected by optical wire. Also have port 2 of Apollo 1 into port 1 of Apollo 2 connected by Firewire.  Let me know. Hope I got it right. Thanks for responding.

  • Why no recording tracks and not enter the GPS coor...

It is interesting for sports (running, skiing, cycling, tracking)
I can not find the application running on a Nokia 2710 which can record my track, time, average speed and keep it on a flash card
Also interesting opportunity to send their GPS coordinates best with the help of SMS to my friends (which is important for security reasons). Also interesting is the input of GPS coordinates so that when you travel is not possible to install the application in an Internet cafe and noted the interest point on the map, as well as meet with their friends using GPS coordinates

That is probably because the 2710 is a low end model and uses the more basic S40 operating system. What you need is a Nokia S60 smartphone which support a raft applications which do exactly as you require including one called Sports Tracker.
