Recording Simulations

I am new to using Captivate and have spent way too much time
trying to figure out what I have done wrong, so I am hoping you all
are a friendly group and will help out a newbie. Thanks in advance!
I have created an application demonstration in a custom
screen of 720 x 540 resolution in Captivate 4.0 with relative ease.
My next task was to try to create a simulation that has some demo
and some training simulation. I changed the default preference mode
of custom to include show mouse location and some of the other
options since I have a smaller screen and need to scroll to get to
other parts of the window. I then recorded. When I preview the
file, it shows the movement of the screen based on the mouse
movement of the scroll bar, but when it is time for the mouse click
of a selected field, the screen shot returns to before the scroll
took place.
Again, any guidance in the right direction is
appreciated.

Hi Vicki Lyn,
In the preferences dialog(pressing shift+F8 should launch
the preferences dialog in CP4), at Recording->Settings, uncheck
the "Capture interim screenshot" checkbox. Now try recording your
scenario. This should hopefully resolve your issue.

  • Trouble recording simulation & ppt at the same time

I have downloaded the trial version of Captivate4. I need to
put together a presentation for our president that has three
windows: the camera, the powerpoint and the software simulation. I
need to record it all together and publish. I absolutely cannot
figure things out. I have tried for 2 days now. Can you help me? I
had wanted us to purchase Captivate, but with so much difficulty
and my boss hearing that Camatsia is easier. I am ready to give up.
    HELP!

    Welcome to our community, Penny
For recording all that simultaneously Camtasia may be the
better choice. Particularly given your requirement of the camera
feed. I believe Camtasia offers an inset Camera feed as an option.

  • Captivate 7 - 10.9.2-Mac Air - Unable to stop recording simulation (Trial version)

Stil unable to stop simulation recording with command-return or fn-right arrow key. Updated System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Allow the apps (Adobe Captivate) below to control your computer). Any assistance appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks and that is checked. Still no record buttons. A friend of mine purchased Pro Tools LE and boom we were working using the video examples. I really want to stay with Logic Express but the documentation is poor.
I wish someone could could guide me through adding a singe channel for a microphone so I could record. If I can get that I can go from there. Really getting frustrated.
Any other help would be appreciated. And thanks!

  • Recorded 'Simulation' scrolling looks bad!

This is an issue I've had for quite some time so I avoid recording any scrolling. This doesn't seem right. There must be a better way to record scrolling so it looks smooth. My co-workers are recommending to stop recording then begin again after scrolling the page down. This will make my video skip and I'm not a fan of that either.
Please help. I need quick advice! Something I can do for future recordings that does not require an hour of re-work!???
    Sabrina

I have another work flow, but you'll need more time. I will capture the moving/scrolling slides in HD Video Demo (cpvc), instead of the old FMR that is now only used in Automatic Capture mode. Even with 32-bit quality for FMR, HD Video looks better, but that is only my opinion. It needs more discipline, because you have to stop the Automatic capture, select Recording slide, Video Demo. Then again adding normal captured slides.

  • Inserting App Simulations in a Course

Can someone please give me some good advice?
I am planning to create courses which will contain recordings
for application simulations (Training Simulations and Assessment
Simulations). My issue is that one course will probably contain
between 5 to 10 simulations. If I record simulations and insert
them into a Captivate course slide by slide, I am going to end up
with huge amount of slides, and a really large output file when the
    course is published.
Is it possible to publish / export an individual edited
simulation to a SWF file that can then be inserted on 1 slide in
another Captivate course as an animation file?
I have tried this with a Training Simulation, publishing a
SWF file with the "Export HTML" output option checked, and what
seems to happen is that the animation plays, and:
    1. The click boxes and text boxes can be clicked on.
    2. The failure captions appear.
    2. I cannot input any text in a text box.
    3. The simulation does pause while waiting for me to take the
next / required action, such as clicking on an object or inputting
text and hitting the Tab key, but also continues playing in the
background until the simulation finishes playing. So it pauses, but
does not pause, resulting in th simulation finishing before I am
    actually halfway through the simulation.
    4. The simulation then automatically moves onto the next
slide in the course after the simulation seems to have finished
playing, even though I have not been through all of the simulation.
Please note that I have tested the simulation on it's own,
and inserted frame-by-frame in the same course, and it works fine.
It is only if I am trying to insert the simulation into a single
    slide that I have problems.
Thanks for any help or advice!

Well, I'll ask it a different way :
Is there any documentation on the protocol used between Flash client and FMSI so that I can  "fake" the flash client using php ?
Is there a way to call sendDataEvent function on the FMSI NOT using a Flash client ?
    Thanks

  • Captivate 4 not recording mainframe emulator demo

I had used previous versions of Captivate to record simulations of our proprietary mainframe system.  Since upgrading to 4 a couple years back, I am no longer able to get Captivate to recognize the keystrokes or the screen changes.  It captures the first screenshot only and then nothing.  Could there be an option/property I have set wrong?
    Thank You

    Hi there
Is this really the same question you asked a year ago?
Click here to view that thread
And if it is the same issue, is it one you never resolved or is it one you resolved for a while and it has since returned?
Sometimes the answer is simple. Perhaps you turned off Automatic recording and have shifted into Manual mode.

  • No Trapping of Keystrokes in Recording

I am recording assessment and training simulations of a
Flash-based application that include text entries; however, none of
the keystrokes are recording. In the recording, I see it highlight
the text I am deleting and getting ready to type over, but it never
traps the typing in of the new text, nor does the recording show
the text after I am finished typing. I tried using Print Screen to
trap, tried clicking off-screen after typing, tried pressing Tab
after typing, tried pressing Enter after typing… and so on -
    Nothing worked.
I have never seen this before, but I am guessing it has
something to do with the fact that I am recording simulations of a
Flash-based application. I have devised an incredibly ugly and
    time-consuming work-around, but it's so hideous I can't imagine
putting my name on any of these.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is your goal with the movies you are making? Do you want
to test people's knowledge of the entries or help them learn by
    making entries?
This may not help but can you go back to the Captivate
project and insert your own Text Entry box? Most of the time I end
up replacing the text that is captured anyway.
Reply if you need to know more.

  • Default mode for recording in Captivate 4

I've created a template for recording simulations in Captivate 4, but it seems to be recording in Demo mode, and not creating click boxes, failure captions, etc. How do I set it to default to Training Simulation?
    Thanks for any suggestions...

    Hi there
Unfortunately there is no way I'm aware of to force a default for this. The Captivate author must choose the type of recording at the time the recording occurs.

  • Simulations looping in Captivate 7

I developed a course using Captivate 7 that includes training simulations. I published it without any LMS settings as the course needs to be approved by a list of approvers. Here's the issue. Half of the approvers viewed the course without any problems short of the exit button not working, which I'm aware of. The other half of the approvers, consistently experience a loop when in the middle of the first simulation. Upon depressing the Enter button in the simulation  it throws them all the way to the beginning of the course.
I've tried playing the simulation at least 15 times and it works fine for me. Am I missing a setting?
Does anyone have any idea why being in the middle of a simulation and depressing the Enter button, throws some of the viewers to the beginning of the course while others can go through the entire course without a hiccup?
Please help we need to get this approved and loaded to the LMS.
    Thank you

Unfortunately, I’m unable to sit with them since they are spread out throughout the country. I did however have one of the approvers share their screen with me, but was not there to physically see if she hit any specific keys that threw her into the loop.  Could Microsoft Silverlight not work well with Captivate? The reason I ask is, out of the 16 courses created using Captivate 7, this is the only course that has given me an issue with recording simulations using the company product.

  • MB1C LSMW Recording fails with missing Prod Date for Batch Managed Material

An LSMW recording for transaction MB1C that was batch managed was successfully recorded.  This included the entry of the Production Date before pressing enter to post the Good Receipts.  However, when the transaction was executed, the error came back, "Enter the date of production".  In looking at the screen in the lsmw batch results, it shows the date in the production date field.
I also tried to create the recording in the Transaction Recorder (trancode SHDB), and process the recording simulating the background mode and got the same results.
Any ideas why it seems to be ignoring the production date?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Recorded Training Project not Playing inside of a Project

I am using V5 and I am having an issue with getting a training project/swf to play within another project. When I view the training project by itself, it plays beautifully, but when I try to get it to work within my larger project no such luck.
I have the training project as invisible when you get to the slide and the user needs to click a button to show it. All that shows is the playbar.
This is driving me crazy because I know that it should be a simple thing to figure out!
I've included a screen shot of the larger project. Not sure if you can read it, but I have seemed to have lost my SnagIt so I had to take a Windows print. Thanks for your help.

As I said before, nesting Captivate SWFs inside other Captivate SWFs is NOT recommended and tends to cause lots of issues.
However, most people at least get the inserted project to be visible before they run into other issues. I don't understand why it's not working in your case.  I think there may be something else you are not telling us so far that would give a clue to the cause.  It might be something seemingly unimportant.
Try just creating a sample Captivate project with a couple of slides and captions on them (not a recorded simulation) and see if you can insert that into the project and have it show up.
Make sure you have the Visibility setting ON for these SWFs as shown on the Properties tab.

  • Can I run CP6 in an old PC?

    Hi!
I need to record simulations about some process in softwares that requires a big part of the functionality of the computer. The PC´s are "old" they have WinXP, 4GB RAM, Pentium 2.
There are a some things that I would like to know:
    1. Can Captivate run in that PC?
    2. If does what will be the limitations during the recording process?
    3. What kind of issues I can find, if I push the PC to do this?
    Thanks in advanced,
    Rebecca

Captivate 6 can run on anything with WinXp as long as it has Service Pack 3 installed.  It might not run very quickly, but it should run.

  • Forced to leave Captivate, grudgingly...

fyi. Our company unfortuantely has to stop using Captivate 5 because it's not compatible with ARticulate Presenter 9.  Our company has migrated everyone to Win7 and will not allow us to run Captivate 4 on our laptops, (don't ask). Thus no choice but to throw away our Captivate 5 versions and no longer use.  It's sad because we liked Captivate's ability to record simulations...  Please consider publishing in AS2 for Captivate 5 movies.  Customers demand a "fix" or are left with no choice but to find an alternative to Captivate 5.  Please send this up your chain to executives that care...

    Hi there
Sorry to see you go, but I do understand.
You might take a moment to complete the Wish Form/Bug Report to alert the development team to the desire for AS2 ability. (Link is in my sig)

  • Can skype business be used by multiple person?

My office already has a free skype account but now we want to be able to have all our locations on a group video call. I was looking into skyp for business but im not sure if each location would need to have its own skyp account or can accounts be created for each location from the skype manager control panel?

    Hi Billgiee,
... and probably way cheaper, but I am wanting to ensure each clients data is physically separated, not just logically separated, for other reasons. I definitely could have one large database and put a customer code on each record, simulating a federated
style database but not what I want to do.
Looking forward to someone answering the technical side of my question.
    Thanks for your suggestion though.
