Recording sound between applications.

On my old G4 Mac running Tiger I used a free programme called Soundflower to record audio from any program into a recording app like Audacity or Garageband. Now I am using OS X Yosemite and Soundflower is not compatible. Is there a viable alternative? I looked on the App store and on-line, where there are alternatives, but after downloading them as trials they don't really work.
Soundflower was perfect as a conduit to let me record sounds coming from the computer and I miss not having that ability for the work that I need to do.
Many thanks.

Your subject mentions switching between sound playback applications, but the details in your message only mention a problem occurring when you open/close the laptop screen. Tell us more about the sound application switching you mentioned.
Did you perform a recovery because of this symptom, or did the symptom appear after you performed the recovery?  And are the videos that you're watching on DVD media or are you streaming them in a web browser.

  • How do I capture software simulations when having to switch back and forth between applications?

    Working with service reps who use multiple systems to complete an order. Need to know how to guide them in the use of Captivate 8 to produce a software simulation that includes the entire process.

    Hi there
    It sounds as if you might be thinking that Captivate typically records a single application. Certainly it *CAN* work that way, but it also can record just an area of the screen. This is what I'm thinking you are wanting in this case. Just define an area of the screen (possibly even the entire screen) and record that. Then your reps can move between applications.

    You may have better luck dumping those to computer and using an application that includes the ability to scrub.
    Try the Mac App Store for choices.

  • Recording sound from computer?

    Ok so I have a file that is .vrf (Ventrilo sound) and Sb doesn't open it. But if i play the sound can Sb record it off the computer (via Stereo Mix)? I know Audacity will record sounds off my computer, but i was wondering if Sb would. and if so how?
    Thanks!

    >>What settings? In the toolbar settings or IE7's settings?<<
    It's in the "Freecorder" toolbar (mine shows near the top of IE) and is an icon located there for Freecorder's "Settings".  On my installation, it's the second icon from the right end of the toolbar and is located between the "bell" ("Record and Auto-Tag MP3's ...") and the right-facing 'arrow (the "Play" icon). The "Settings icon" looks like two opposite-facing maracas.
    Click this Settings icon and a window will pop up.  In its upper-left corner you'll see three places that allow you to place/click a "check mark".  I've put a check in the top line which says "Record From Freecorder Audio Driver", and it has worked well for me.  (Note that in this "Settings window" you can also set the "Recording Destination", the "Output Format", and time at which you want the program to "Prompt for a filename".)
    What I do is: 1) click the red "Record" icon in Freecorder's toolbar, 2) start playing the music source so I can hear it out of the speakers, and 3) when it's done playing, save the file.
    Hope this helps a little more.

  • Anyone familiar with Freeverse's Sound Studio application used with iTunes?

    I have been using Freeverse Software's Sound Studio application for the last year, which allows me to record workshops I lead, in AAC format, and I've always been able to drag the files into iTunes and play or burn them. Since upgrading to Leopard (and upgrading their software to the newest Leopard-compatible version), when I try to drag a file into iTunes, it won't copy into the library. Freeverse says it isn't a problem with the software.
    Anyone know why I might not be able to put an AAC file, recorded onto my MacBook Pro, into iTunes....and a workaround?
    Thanks

    Check to be sure that the file suffix is correct ie: .m4a, .mp3 etc.
    Can you 'add' to iTunes using the File menu?

  • Trouble Passing URL Parameters between Applications

    Hi All,
    I am having trouble Passing URL Parameters between Applications for BW queries as data sources. I know I am getting the data from the sending application correctly, because I an printing to the screen using a Text Component.
    Date From: 1/1/2008
    Date To: 3/14/2014
    Here is the code from the sending application On Select :
    "http://localhost:56572/aad/web.do?APPLICATION=WIMO_SUMMARY_OPEN_DETAIL&designersessionid=37a1cfaa7e734cd9afa35cb4cd627d41" +

    + DS_1.getVariableValueExt("ZPORDAT5"));
    Here is the code from the recieving application Global Script Variable"

    Xv_DateTo         String     True
    Here is the code from the receiving application On Startup"
    DS_2.setFilter("0CALDAY",[Xv_DateFrom, Xv_DateTo]);
    When I click the results of the sending Application the popup window opens for the receiving application but I get all the records for the BW receiving query, it does not restrict to the values in ("ZPORDAT3") 1/1/2008 and ("ZPORDAT5") Date To: 3/14/2014.
    So, I would expect it is my receiving code, but I am not sure.
    Hope you can help?

    Hi Norman,
    As Jörg said, please put "&" before each of your variable names at your url. For the second part,I didn't try it for date intervals but keep in mind just in case:
    APPLICATION.openNewWindow("http://localhost:56572/aad/web.do?APPLICATION=WIMO_SUMMARY_OPEN_DETAIL&designersessionid=37a1cfaa7e734cd9afa35cb4cd627d41" +

  • Recording Sound Files

    I'm looking at technologies for an application that will
    (among other things) provide dictation capabilities. Specifically,
    we need to be able to record sound files, review them, then upload
    them to a central server.
    My reading of the documentation is that Flex will not be able
    to record a sound file, and in any case I won't be able to get
    access to the microphone without a confirmation dialog. Is this
    correct?
    I'm guessing that AIR, as a desktop application, would have
    this capability. So as a bonus, if anyone could point me to
    information on that I would appreciate it.

    Open up QuickTime. Go to File->New audio recording. Click on the red button and speak (there's a built in mic) click on the black square when you're done. The file will save to wherever you have the QT preferences set to save to.
    EDIT* Oh I may have led you astray. I think you need QTPro to do that. Well you can capture audio in GarageBand. Just select a New Track and use the Real Instrument setting. Same basic idea. Hit record, speak and then stop.

  • Recording sound without Flash Media Server?

    Hello,
    I am totally new to Flash Media Server I need to be able to record sound via a Flash app and save it to a server preferably without the use of a Flash Media Server type setup. There is no requirement for live streaming.
    Is it possible to record the sound and save in memory then pass the data/file as a query parameter to the server?
    I don't even know if I've posted this in the correct place... any help/guidance will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    You can use any publisher to publish like FMLE and publish the streams to the application in applications folder suppose application name is sampleApp then create a folder in applications folder of FMS root directory and then keep the below mains.asc file which does the recording of published streams to the sampleApp application.
    //main.asc
    application.onConnect=function(clientObj)
    return true;
    application.onPublish = function(clientObj,streamObj){
      trace("in application publish");
      streamObj.record("record");
    application.onUnpublish = function(clientObj,streamObj){
    trace("on unpublish");
    streamObj.record(false);
    I think this should solve your problem.
    Regards,
    Amit

  • Recording sound with Soundbooth

    I managed to record sound with the system 'sound recorder', but when I try to record sound in soundbooth with the same mic (simple cheap mic) there is nothing showing on the meter and nothing records. Can somebody please explain to me what is the problem?

    While Premiere and Soundbooth both support a Windows audio standard called ASIO, both also include a driver that will let you use audio devices that do not support this format.  The driver is configured by default, but may not always select the proper input port - depending on the audio device and what Windows reports to the application.
    Fortunately, it's not too difficult to tinker around and find the right setting.  In Soundbooth, choose Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware...  In the dialog that pops up, you should see a drop-down labeled "Default Device"  If you are running Soundbooth CS4, you should see "Soundbooth 2.0 WDM Sound" listed here.  Click the Settings button, and in the new dialog, click the "Input" tab.  Here you'll see a list of input ports for your selected audio device.  Make certain your microphone port is enabled, and click OK a few times to get back to the main program.  Click the Record button and make sure the microphone input is selected in the Port: dropdown.  Try recording and see if this solves the problem.
    If it still does not record, or you do not see the proper input to enable, you may need to verify the proper audio device is selected, or if you're running Windows Vista, that the input port you want to use is enabled in Window's Audio settings.  You can find this by right clicking on the speaker icon in your system try and choose "Recording Devices."
    Good luck!

  • Recording: difference in Application and Screen Area?

    Beginner questions:
    1. What is the difference between recording with Application and with Screen Area?
    2. With Application selected, what is the difference between Application Window and Application Region?
    Thanks.

    Hi there
    Imagine you have a camera and you are taking pictures of your computer screen. You can take a picture of the whole screen or you might zoom in and take a picture of just part of the screen. Panning allows you to move around an application and take pictures of a smaller part of the computer screen.
    For example, you open Windows Notepad and you have panning enabled. You move the mouse around and take screen captures. You click four times.
    With Panning enabled, you end up with four different areas of Notepad captured. (Four Captivate slides) Similar to the image below.
    Each of the slides in Captivate would correspond to the area that was clicked in Notepad.
    No panning says to ignore the panning options.
    Automatic panning says to follow the mouse automatically.
    Manual panning says to allow panning, but only when you (the Captivate author) request it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • IMovie HELP! I can't record sound!

    AAARGH!!! I really HATE my Mac lately. So I'm doing a school project, making a documentary, right? And iMovie is working just fine. I can record sound, put in pictures, the usual. Then, I added a picture to the beginning of the 7:00(ish) minute documentary, and deleted the narraration to redo it, as I had added something and made some changes. It was very delayed, and kept getting messed up. So, I turned my computer (Mac OSX Lion) off and back on again. This allowed me to fix the problem I had with the beginning, but now iMovie won't let me record sound at the end of the project. I tested my microphone, and it's fine, so there's not a problem there. I also started a new iMovie Project, and it allowed me to record sound there, as well. Please help me! I really need to finish this project!!! What could possibly be wrong with my program? What can I do to fix it?!

    The fireware port on the A2 soundcard is something completly separated. There is no direct connection in between those two (soundcard and fireware port), the fireware chip it is just added on the board and is sharing the same PCI slot/intrerupt. If you want is exactly like another fireware port from motherboard or add-on card.
    So you will need an extra software to capture the digital sound via fireware, Creative is providing just the hardware (the driver is generic in WindowsXP). I am using my fireware port to capture video from my miniDV camcorder.
    For you I think you have to look into the mixer software.

  • Why can't i record sound on video?

    I was recording a video and when I went to listen to it there was no sound. Doesd anyone know why I can't record sound?  Voice memo works though.

    Hello, Bonnieandeddie.
    Thank you for the question.  I'm assuming you are not receiving any sound from third-party applications when playing video/audio content.  If this is the case, the first thing I would check is if the side switch is set to silent as this can cause applications to be mute.  Below I have included an article that covers adjusting the  settings for the side switch.  Also, make sure to close all applications in Multitasking and power cycle the device.  Test the sound issue after processing these steps.

  • Recording sound through the speakers of a Satellite L750D

    Hi,
    I am trying to set up my Satellite L750D (psk36a-038008) so I can record using the sound that gets sent to the speakers and not just the input from the microphone. (whatever comes through the speakers could be recorded by whatever sound recording software I use). I was able to do this on a previous laptop (not Toshiba) but this one doesn't want to do it.
    In the recording tab of the microphone, I have got the 'Show Disabled Devices' option ticked/checked but nothing else is showing apart from the conexant microphone.
    The laptop is less than 1 month old, does it need new drivers already?
    Thanks

    And what is the source for this sound?
    Do you want to record music from internet radio or what?
    As far as I know Toshiba has build-in microphone and it is designed to be used with communications applications like Skype, MSN or something similar. As far as I know when mic is ON speakers are OFF.
    It works on this way to avoid microphony effect.
    To be honest it is not known to me that you can force notebook to work on this way and record sound that comes from speakers.
