Recording Sound Effects

Hello:
I'm developing an iOS app, and a sound effect that I purchased is not able to used in the app.  Since I can't find a similar sound effect that can be used, can I record the sound effect on GarageBand and use it in the app?  It will be a paid app, not a free one.
Thank you in advance.

Your question is more related to app development, plus the GarageBand for the iPad (This is a GarageBand. for OSX forum).
If I understand you right, then I would look at the IAA (Inter-App Audio) feature. This is the new standard that lets you route audio (and other data) between audio apps on iOS devices. The standard was developed by Apple and is supported by a growing nuymbers of audio apps, including GarageBand for iPad.
Another similar format is Audiobus, that is also supported by many audio apps.
Hope that helps

I am using logic to record a podcast.  I have a presonus firestudio mobile for my interface so I can record several people at the same time.  I'm also using Soundboard for a playback system for music and sound effects.  I'd like to know how to soft patch Soundboard into Logic while still using the Firestudio interface to record the other members of the podcast.  Does anyone know how to do this? and if so can you tell me how to do it?  Thanks.

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • Sound Effects - need 'record needle remove'

    Hey all,
Does anyone know where i can find a VERY SPECIFIC sound effect? I am looking for one that is like removing a needle from a vinyl record - it is not a 'rap scratch' which I have found oodles of sound effects for. This would be removing the needle while dragging it across a few of the grooves giving the 'removal scratch'...

  • Record start-up Sound effect

    Good evening,
I'm working in FCE and am trying to figure out a way of creating a sound effect as though an LP were on a turntable that was just turned on so the sound would go from slow to normal speed. If this description makes sense, is there anyone who might be able to explain how I might do this. I'm assuming the SoundTrack might be the place to do this but I just don't have the knowledge on how.
    Thanks.
    BurntMonkey

    Hi(Bonjour)!
You'll need FCE HD 3.5 to do this effect.
Select the clip you want to apply your effect in timeline.
    Use the Effect-->audio Filters--> Apple--> AUPitch.
Double click your filtered clip to open it in viewer, select filter tab, select AuPitch filter and add a keyframe to the start of your clip with a -1000 Pitch value. Move the playhead where you want the full speed audio, add a new keyframe and resume pitch value to 0.
    Render and control the result.

  • In Garage Band on iPAD, is there a way to make each key on the keyboard play a different sound effect?

I'd like to be able to play a number of selected sound effects using the keyboard in Garage Band. I've figured out how to import audio tracks from my itunes library into a track in Tracks View.
Thanks if anyone has experience with this......

GarageBand on iPad does not have the SoundEffects instruments, that GarageBand on Mac has.
The closest you can get to this on your iPad will be the "Sampler" instrument. You can record a sound sample and play it using the "Sampler" instrument and adjust the pitch.
But you cannot assigne different samples to different keys.
See:  Play sounds with the Sampler

  • (My post isn't showing up?) Sound effect muffles/is louder than the other audio layers

I want to point out that the last time I posted this, the discussion was completely blank. This is a repost and hopefully it won't be blank this time
In my most recent short movie, I decided that I would focus a lot more on sound than I normally do, so bought a microphone, a recorder and a boom pole etc. I also decided to implement more sound effects (Bear in mind that I'm 16, not a professional).
Here's the video -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGkrFVZ0e5I (I think embedding the video was causing problems with posting)
Note that at about 0:10 seconds in, you can hear an alarm ringing, but also a sort of 'thump' sound (It's actually the sound of a vault opening/closing). You couldn't hear it normally, so I turned the bass up on it to 17dB. When playing it back in the timeline, it sounds perfectly fine, but when I export the video, much like the attached one, it's muffled and you can't hear the alarm or anything else.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to try and fix it, also that scene takes a while to export so I couldn't quite do any trial and error.
Now however, I'm going to enter the video into a small competition, so I thought I'd try and fix it...because it does sound terrible/unprofessional.
Any suggestions? Remember, it sounds perfect (In my opinion) when playing it back in the timeline. I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.5 on an 11,2 (October 2010) iMac running Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8, it's also being exported to a G-Drive FireWire 800 hard drive, not a RAID, perhaps that could be a problem?

"One thing which is realistically within your reach at this time and could really help you on future projects is if you can come up with some sort of beginning, middle and end"
That's one of the problems, people kept saying "Oh, this line's too long..." and shortnening it, and like Jim said "If you can't fire people, you're at their mercy" so I can't exactly deduct pay or anything...because they're not being paid
They even started saying "Woah! We've completely changed the script! hahaha!". Just shows how little they actually cared. And the script really was changed, I would send you the script but I don't want to veer too far from the topic
"You may need to find some way to compensate them for their time though"
I was going to bring a box of Coca Cola, but I thought it would be a bit hard to carry around...and I was kind of glad I didn't because I don't feel they quite deserved it and they were already a bit hyper. Maybe it would have gone better if I did bring the Coke, but I'll definitely order some pizza next time.
    "Just software."
Great software that is! I don't know where I'd be without the student discount.
Anyway let's get back to the question.
    I glanced at this a bit - http://www.uaudio.com/blog/understanding-audio-phase/
And tried using the original MP3. It still didn't sound good.
I then tried exporting the sound on its own, with the bass, then imported it, but it still didn't sound as good.
I asked my friend (Who happens to also have the surname 'Curtis') and he said "just sounds to me like you have it so loud that it's clipping" and suggested that I "multitrack" it, basically layer several of them on top of each other, but that didn't work either.
He decided to add the bass in and fix the 'clipping'. It sounded good, but once imported, you could barely hear it, so I thought I'd try putting the bass up to 17dB like before...had the same problem. It seems to only sound nice/fitting with the 17dB bass...am I just going to have to turn it down and live with it?

  • In need of a "Boom box like" sound effect

I am trying to score a scene where there is music coming out of a Boom box. Is there a plug-in in Logic that I'm not aware that creates such a sound or is there a plug-in that I can purchase or download?
If anybody has any suggestion on how I would achieve that 'boom box" sound I would appreciate your ideas.
The only plug in that I know of is Vinyl which creates that scratched record sound, which I don't need.
    Anyway, thanks

Specifically, I don't know of a dedicated boombox simulator.
    1) Make a CD or cassette of the audio, and mic a boombox playing it back
    2) Make a CD or cassette of an impulse, and create an IR of a boombox playing it back
    3) You could try using some filtering, fast compression, and a very short IR - or something like the bass amp plugin, basically any speaker simulator with good frequency response (unlike a guitar cab) could give you the effect with a little eq

  • Logic Studio install - Sound Effects option disabled

When I go to install Logic Studio, in the list of things to install the selections "Sound Effects" and "Music Beds" are greyed out and uncheckable. If I install everything I can select, it skips the discs Audio Content 1 and 2. Is there a way to get at least the Sound Effects option enabled?
(This is for Logic Studio upgrade w/ Logic Pro 9, upgrading from Logic Express 8)

So I understand correctly that you are not involved in creating music in any way? Then Logic is NOT what you are looking for. It is mainly aimed at either recording and/or composing original music, and not as a ready to select library sort of thing.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you what you should get, but maybe one of the pro guys can help you out. You'll probably find some users here who actually make the sort of content you want to use.
Logic Pro is the main program in the Logic Studio set.

  • Sound Effects on the Fly

Hi...just starting to podcast and I've looked up how to do this but I just can't seem to get the sounds assigned to the musical keyboard or onscreen keyboard.
Does anyone have a great "how to" or example how I can assign sound effects to certain keyboard keys on my Mac to use them during my broadcast "on the fly"
    Thanks!

    For clarification...
I am attempting to add a laugh track or other sound effect from the GB3 loop pane...to use on the fly as I record...to give my podcast a more professional radio feel.
I follow these directions but can't get it to work:
To add a new sound to the Sound Effects instrument:
Select the track using the Sound Effects Software Instrument.
Choose Window > Musical Typing to open the Musical Typing window.
Drag the region or loop from the timeline or loop browser to the Musical Typing window, and release it over the key you want to use the sound.
If you transpose a region before dragging it to the Musical Typing keyboard, it keeps the transposition in the Sound Effects instrument. It will also play faster (if transposed up) or slower (if transposed down), similar to transposing a sound in a sampler.
When it says to "drag the region or loop from the timeline...does that mean I add it as a track and then move it? Can't figure this out...
    Thanks!

  • Minor AIFF Sound Effect

I realize this is a minor problem but I have an Sound effect in iMovie 6.0.3 , along with many others, and it will not burn in my iDVD project. Not to a DVD or Disc Image, nothing.
I remove it from iMovie and it will burn in iDVD. I realize this is the solution to burn it but would like this sound effect in if possible. As I said , I have much music and other sound effects in this movie but this one is giving me trouble. I was looking for suggestions that I could try from any of you.
    Thanks

You can use WireTap Pro to record the sound effect, creating an AIFC file. Name it whatever you wish, save it to your desktop, and drag/drop it directly into iMovie's audio track. You can put it into iTunes so it will be available whenever you want.
WireTap Pro is a neat little app that records anything that will produce sound in your computer. I use it a lot to make audio clips of part of a song, or to copy the audio of one of my video clips that I replace with still photo. It is much faster than extracting audio from a short clip. I also use it when iMovie won't play a purchased tune instead of burning to cd and reimporting. WireTap can be run while iMovie is open. It also can be used to drag/drop an audio file into iDVD.

  • Are there any STP sound effects usage restrictions?

Are the sound effects in STP free to use? Like could I use them in a feature film if I wanted? A website? Anything? I'm not asking about other companies- I'm talking specifically about the sound effects that come with STP.

  • Garageband: All of a sudden, the QUALITY of my recorded sounds went trashy.

First, I know that most of y'all would recognize this kind of question as one from who isn't familiar about sound effects or pitch control, etc.
But I've been making music for quite a time and have been using those effects very constantly,
so I would have already known the answer if that was the problem.
    The thing is..
I had to hid my mic and audio interface from my aunt's kids who visited at my place.
I was afraid they would touch or break those, so I separated the sets and hid those in my closet.
After they were gone, when I re-setup my recording tools and tried to record a new song, my voice sounded so weird.
It was not something from pitch control or any sound effects that garageband has.
Yes, it sounded like my voice, but it was like the quality was downgraded.
I don't even get how I should explain the sound.
The sound was like my mic would accept my lower tone of my voice only. (I checked the pins on the mic and still wouldn't go back to normal)
I tried re-setting up the whole thing again and again but the result was the same; The sound wouldn't come back to that normal, clear sound.
    Question:
Would this be a problem of Garageband? Perhaps I clicked something random?
Or would it be a problem of my mic which was in the cold closet for about a week? (I use Avantone CK-6)
I need some advice from professionals...
    Thank you.

Are you asking about GarageBand on a Mac or GarageBand on iPad/iPod/iPhone?
If you are asking about GarageBand '11 on your Mac - can you drag the "end-of-song" marker (the little magenta colored triangle) at the top of the time line? Then try to drag it back to the left.
Can you drag the zoom slider below the track heads in the time line?or is that unresponsive too?
If you cannot move the end-of -song marker and not zoom in again, I'd try HangTime's "oddball probs" fix and trash the GarageBand preferences files - see the FAQ:
