Recording Sound Files

I'm looking at technologies for an application that will
(among other things) provide dictation capabilities. Specifically,
we need to be able to record sound files, review them, then upload
them to a central server.
My reading of the documentation is that Flex will not be able
to record a sound file, and in any case I won't be able to get
access to the microphone without a confirmation dialog. Is this
correct?
I'm guessing that AIR, as a desktop application, would have
this capability. So as a bonus, if anyone could point me to
information on that I would appreciate it.

Open up QuickTime. Go to File->New audio recording. Click on the red button and speak (there's a built in mic) click on the black square when you're done. The file will save to wherever you have the QT preferences set to save to.
EDIT* Oh I may have led you astray. I think you need QTPro to do that. Well you can capture audio in GarageBand. Just select a New Track and use the Real Instrument setting. Same basic idea. Hit record, speak and then stop.

  • Weird timing issues when playing back a recorded sound file and with synths

    Hello there,
I'm having a couple of strange issues with playing back files that I have recorded using MIDI data which is then used to play an external synth which then gets recorded to an audio track which at the time is perfectly synced to a click track.
The problem is (and I really dont get why this is happening) when it comes to playing back the recorded audio file that sometimes it is either behind or ahead of the beat.
This makes absolutely no sense because sometimes it IS in time with the beat and other times when I play through my piece it is obviously out! I haven't moved the audio file in the arrange window and it is a permanent .aiff file that is stored on my hard-drive...what on Earth is going on?
On a side note, the same problem happens with any of Logic's synths when I use an LFO that is supposed to be synced to the beat. Sometimes when I play back the MIDI data it is perfectly synced and in time and other times it is horribly out. It really is just pot luck!
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thank you supermacmom!
I have the LifeProof case for the iPhone5, and I remember the instructions saying that any protective screen cover should be removed before enclosing the phone into the case, but I left mine on with no ill effects.
But I should have taken off the back protective film, which was covering the video mic!

  • Can you record sound using a USB 6211 and convert the data to a .wav (or other sound) file?

    Hello,
I am trying to build a system that will use a USB 6211 to record sounds from multiple electret microphones and then save the data as a .wav file or other sound file.  I have already built my mics and hooked the mics up to the USB 6211; the DAQ device seems to do an adequate job recording the signal - I've recorded from 3 mics at a time at 11,025 Hz, although I don't know how good the signals are since I can't save them for playback after the fact, and they aren't going through my sound card. Ultimately, I would like to save the data as a multichannel audio file which I could then open in a program such as Audacity for further editing and analysis. Since Audacity can import a variety of sound files, my file format doesn't need to be .wav if another format would work better.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Eric

If you are sampling all three simultaneously, your highest frequency recordable will be (11,025/2)/3, so about 1800Hz and that will pretty coarse (traditionally digital sound recording is at 44Ks/s at the low end). As to converting to a .wav, there are functions on the "Graphics and Sound" palette for saving waveforms to a .wav file.

hi, i can't hear any sounds from my pad when i'm recording video what seems to happen? but it has sounds in songs from downloaded files.i just can't record sounds..

Hey ErikSimon, I kept troubleshooting my problem last night and when I loaded my samples an alternate way, actually the longer way, it worked. I think I have gremlins in the system or something, but I got it working again. I was having the issue when I tried loading the samples via these instructions that were mentioned in SFLogicninja's Youtube video @ 3:07
    http://www.youtube.com/user/SFLogicNinja#p/u/8/7YjgKLZ2jpY
They are good instructions, but the Logic gods weren't smiling on me last night. Really weird and frustrating at the same time. Thanks anyways.

  • Says I can't import recorded sound into iMovie because I the files don't have iLife preview

    Hi,
I am trying to either record sound directly onto iMovie to use as a voiceover or record on Garageband and then import it to iMovie. I have not found a way to record on iMovie, so I was trying to do it on garageband, but when I try to open the file on iMovie, it says I can not because it does not have iLife preview. I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    Thank you!

    Hi avalewinter,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to record a voiceover directly in iMovie. To accomplish this, please use the instructions located in the attached article.
iMovie (2013): Add audio and music
    Record a voiceover
You can record your own narration to add to your movie.
Position the playhead where you want to start recording in the timeline, and choose Window > Record Voiceover. The voiceover recording controls appear below the viewer.
To adjust the recording settings, do any of the following:
To change the input device: Click the Voiceover Options button, and choose an option from the Input Source pop-up menu.
To adjust the input level of the microphone: Click the Voiceover Options button, and drag the Volume slider right to increase the volume of what is being recorded, or left to decrease it. You can monitor the audio levels by using the built-in audio meter on the Record button. You should set the volume so that the audio meter in the microphone (the Record button) stays green, even when your voice is at its loudest.
To mute sound from other clips while recording: Click the Voiceover Options button, and select the Mute Project checkbox.
To start recording, click the Record button.
To stop recording, click the Record button again (or press the Space bar). The recorded audio appears as a new clip in the timeline, above the background music. The voiceover clip is attached to the clip that was below the playhead when the recording was started. The track is named VO: Movie Name - Date, where “Movie Name” is the name of your movie, and “Date” is the date of the recording.
Click the close button to dismiss the voiceover recording controls.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • My daughter reset my iphone4. How can I get back recorded memos = sound files? Thank you!

To make things more complicated: I "drowned" my iphone last summer and got a new one (also an i phone 4) in November. When I signed in yesterday after the reset mishap, suddenly old data photos, sound memos from the old phone which I had thought lost were available - although the phone displayed the new (November 2012) apps, too. So I may have logged in with the old (drowned) account and password. How can I log out and be forced to login with the new apple ID to check and - more important - to get reicent sound file memos back? I don't want to risk to delete them.
Thanks for your help and sorry about my struggling in English.

if you want Lenovo's version of the Windows 8, you would need to call the Lenovo Service support in your country.
If you want generic Windows 8 version then you need to get the disc from somewhere (i.e. friend) or purchase it.

  • Recording sound from DVD and CD play

I just bought a Zen V Plus. Could someone please tell me how to record sound from a DVD and/or CD to my MP3? Thank you!

    Try this:
    1. Connect the Line IN jack on your player to the line output of an external stereo source, such as a CD or MiniDisc player, using the supplied line-in cable.
    2. Press the Back/Options .You may need to do this more than once until the main menu appears.
    3. Select Extra button to start a line-in encoding.
    5. On your external stereo source, start playing the song you want to encode.
    6. While encoding, you can press and hold the Back/Options button and select one of the following items:
Pauses the encoding. You can also pause the encoding by pressing the Play/Pause button.
Stops and saves the encoding. You can also stop the encoding by pressing the Record
Split Ends and saves current recording session, and begins a new one.
    7. Press the Record button to end the line-in recording. The recorded track is named LINE followed by the date and time of the recordin YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS<. For example, if you record a track on March 5, 2004 at 2:57 pm, the track is named LINE
This information can also be found in your user's guide, it's a .chm file found in your installation cd.

  • How do I add a sound file to my iPad app?

I know absolutely nothing about working with sound files in Cocoa, so it would be great if I could get some advice on the following:
-What type of file should I be using? (I used QuickTime to record the sound clip, and that made it a .mov - should I rerecord it with something else?)
-Once I have the file ready to go, how do I get it into my xib file so the user can press a button and the app will play the sound?
    Thank you!

You need to know how to add a framework and resources to your project, and how to wire up a button action in IB.
I use .wav files, but only because they're compatible and common for my needs. File names are case sensitive w/iOS, so be sure they match with your code.

  • How do I convert a Simple Sound file to a .WAV file?

    Since I have a Mac Mini (w/Intel CPU) I don't have a built-in microphone.
I do, however, have an OS 9.1 Wall Street Powerbook with a built-in mike.
I'd like to send voicemail to friends who use Windows XP
I used Simple Sound to record a message on the Powerbook and e-mailed
it to myself. Now what? IMovieHD will apparently (according to Pogue) convert the sound portion of a movie to .WAV but when I open a New Project in IMovieHD my sound file is ghosted.
Is there an app in Tiger that will convert the sound (voice) file? Or perhaps some freeware app out there?

    Hi, gwgoldb.
USB microphones are very inexpensive. I'd suggest getting one of those and simply doing the recording on your new Mac Mini.
    For recording:
    • You could use the previously-suggested freeware Audacity to record and save the recording as .wav. Note Audacity isn't a Universal Binary at this time, so it would run under Rosetta.
    •  Use QuickTime Pro for recording and converting (export) the recording to .wav. Some people balk at paying US$ 29.99 for a QuickTime Pro key, but I find it does a nice job in basic recording, converting audio/video, and basic A/V editing, all with the simplicity of the QuickTime interface.
    Good luck!
