Recording sound on an iMac/toilet seat

I need to record some live sound onto my iMac model M6411 (graphite toilet seat). I bought a Griffin iMic and have a wireless mic that will work with the iMic and be plugged into the USB port of the iMac. Can anyone suggest an application to use to record with? I will be using the iMac-recorded audio to overdub video that I'm shooting at the same time (along with audio that's being recorded directly into the camcorder).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lloyd

Don,
Unfortunately, I DO have it. I'll probably use Audicity, though, unless I can find something better before Sunday.
Thanks,
Lloyd

    I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
    Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
    The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
    I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
    When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
    I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • Recording TV on my iMac and playing back on a Windows PCa

    I work nights and miss most of the TV shows I like to watch. I want to record TV on my new iMac and be able to play the shows back on my PC laptop.
    I have an Elgato 250 plus and all the software loaded on my iMac. Elgato uses Titan TV for the channel lineups.
    While Elgato claims I can export my recordings to WMV, in fact I can only export to QuickTime. My export to WMV is about 5mb in size for an hour program which is about 3 minutes of show play time. Elgato says it should work and that is all they can do for help.
    On Tuesday of this week, my EeTv stopped connecting to TitanTv for channel update, and no-one, TitanTv nor Elgato is willing to respond t this problem. When I try to manually update my channel lineup, I get the error message incorrect provider ID.
    Is there anyone else that provides a TV tuner and recording software for the iMac?
    Thanks for your help

    Hello,
    Sounds like you could do with removing and re-installing EyeTV as it's not working properly. It would also be worth trashing the preferences.
    In the meantime try exporting to H.264 MPEG instead.

  • Recording Sound to Computer

    I have a USB microphone for my iMac. I need an app that will record sound from it, and allow me to save that file for later use. Preferrably free. So far, I can't really find anything. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi, Aaron —
    I used the freeware app Audio Recorder for a long time in OS 9.x, etc. It's nothing fancy, but does the job — really depends on your objectives. This versiontracker page indicates that the current version is Tiger compatible. I haven't tried it out, but plan to...
    No harm in checking it out.
    Good luck!

  • QuickTime not recording sound

    I'm running OS X 10.8.2 with QuickTime 10.2 and can't get the screen recordings to record audio.
    I've tried all of the settings in System Preferences > Sound for both Output and Input and even have Soundlflower installed and have chosen those as options also, but I can't get the audio to record. Or that is... no matter what settings I use for Input... it ONLY records from my 27" iMac's internal microphone.
    So... while recording the video that's playing on screen if I talk (to test it) the audio recording of my talking is fine... but no setting will allow me to record what the audio on the video is.
    This didn't just begin in 10.8.2... I'm just finally getting around to posting about it because I'd like to occasionally record videos on the screen.
    The videos record without a problem.
    EDIT:  If I select Soundflower (16c) for the Input then the Sound preference pane displays the sound on the video is being recognized by the system (i.e. the Input level shows the bar changing from the audio in the video). But when I play the QT file back... no sound.
    Any advice?

    I have found a solution to your problem!
    I have Logmein installed, and I selected it for the sound output.
    I than selected it as the audio source in quicktime and it worked like a charm. I was able to record video with system audio and it was perfect!
    I hope this helps!
    If @apple is listening tho, There should be an option to select system audio when recording a screen cap with quicktime.

  • Recording sounds on the fly

    Can anyone tell me if you can record sounds on the fly?
    By that I mean during my voice recording and not in post production.
    Our podcast is a live event. We do no editing or postproduction. Currently I use a PC to play sounds and feed them through the mixer into the line in on my iMac. I was hoping that GB3 podcast recording would allow me to just double click a file and have it added to my mix. I can't seem to figure out how to do this.
    Most podcasters I know do zero post production. I can't understand why Apple wouldn't provide this feature.
    Thanks,
    Bry

    Seems like we both have the same problem! I figured out how to assign an mp3 to a track then drag it to the "Musical Typing Keyboard" See this thread for details:

    You can also see my thread too, I appear to be asking for the same thing but dragging in each audio track seems way too complicated. I just want to play my audio clips from iTunes (from a little tempary playlist) during my show aka Daily Source Code. Let's figure this ***** out!

  • Recording sound from DVD and CD play

    I just bought a Zen V Plus. Could someone please tell me how to record sound from a DVD and/or CD to my MP3? Thank you!

    Try this:
    1. Connect the Line IN jack on your player to the line output of an external stereo source, such as a CD or MiniDisc player, using the supplied line-in cable.
    2. Press the Back/Options .You may need to do this more than once until the main menu appears.
    3. Select Extra button to start a line-in encoding.
    5. On your external stereo source, start playing the song you want to encode.
    6. While encoding, you can press and hold the Back/Options button and select one of the following items:
    Pauses the encoding. You can also pause the encoding by pressing the Play/Pause button.
    Stops and saves the encoding. You can also stop the encoding by pressing the Record
    Split Ends and saves current recording session, and begins a new one.
    7. Press the Record button to end the line-in recording. The recorded track is named LINE followed by the date and time of the recordin YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS<. For example, if you record a track on March 5, 2004 at 2:57 pm, the track is named LINE
    This information can also be found in your user's guide, it's a .chm file found in your installation cd.

  • Can you record sounds and save as a ringtone with the IPhone4?

    I'm new to the IPhone. All other phones I' ve used in the past I could save sounds and use them as a ringtone. I just can't seem to figure it out with the I4. Can it be done?

    You can record sounds with the Voice Memos app, then sync them to your computer by selecting "Include voice memos" on the Music tab of y0ur iTunes sync settings and syncing your phone.  Once synced to your computer they will appear in a Voice Memos playlist that iTunes creates on the left sidebar.  Then you have to convert it to a ringtone using iTunes as shown here: Create free ringtones with iTunes 10.  After this is done, you can check the ringtone in your iTunes library, then check Sync Tones on the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync.  Custom ringtones will appear in Settings>Sounds>Ringtone at the top of the list.

    I did every step in the link that i have been provided with (thank you), but I’m
    still experiencing the same issue. My experience with Apple has been
    excellent and this has been the first time I have experienced something
    like this with an Apple product. I hope we can find a quick solution.
    In order to get the iPhone 5 as soon as it launched (being a major fan of
    Apple products!), I purchased my iPhone 5 from the UK through a friend of
    mine who lives there.
    My question is: can I have the faulty device replaced within Saudi by one
    of the official resellers here (we have 3: STC, Mobily and Zain)? I want to
    avoid the disruption, complication and expense of sending it back to the
    UK.
    Could you advise whether this is possible or not, and if not how should I
    go about having the device replaced?
    Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

    Nice try! Take a hike.

  • Does the ipod nano can record sounds?

    Does the iPod nano can record sounds connecting "headphones with microphone"?

    Hi uptight,
    Yes, the iPod Nano does support MP4 files.
    You can find more information about the files the iPod supports here: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
    You can convert many videos right from iTunes. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211 will walk you through the process with sample files.

  • Dear Community, how can I connect SCSI tape recorder via USB to iMac ? Is there any adapter/converter on the market now ? Cheers, Marek

    Dear Community,
    how can I connect SCSI tape recorder via USB to iMac ?
    Is there any adapter/converter on the market now ?
    Cheers, Marek

    Thanks Jan.
    Actually the reason to use Quantum SCSI tape recorder is to back-up big amount of data (propriety movies footage) both on PC (what is quite easy, using SCSII host adapter with VHDCI 68 connector) and iMac what seems to be not easy. All my search by Google leads to that conclussion, they finished production of SCSI-to-USB or FireWire because somebody stopped to produce chips to covert protocols. So even buying noe second-hand adapter, no guaranty it's still working with Lion (nobody is developing drivers anymore). Strange is, nobody or just a few are using SCSII (Ultra 320) devices (while the transfer is not bad, 320 MBps what is 2560 Mbps, so the only limitation is tape recording (some 80 MBps) not an interface. Using compression mode I can (and I do) record 1,6 TB of footage data. However quite slow, is safe and cheap, comparing with any HD storage solution. USB 2 is much more limited.
    I'm using Time Capsule for buck-up. But even 3 TB one day will be full of data, then old back-ups will be eaten by new once, what is not good idea for archives. I'm using another 2TB NAS HD (2x2TB RAID 1), but this is also going to be full soon.
    Of course, you are right, the option is another machine (OSX,Win,Linux or Solaris) equipped with SCSII controller. But this requires another machine, just for back-up time to time, and in practice iMac folders must be shared with that small auxiliary machine because amount of data practically excluding even temporary data collection on auxiliary machine. And it must be transfer by wire, not WIFI, my only network. Tape recording is in my case really good, professional solution, isn't it?
    Anyway, if somebody has similar requirements as me, and found the solution for SCSI, please let me know. So far, follow Jan's idea, I'm thinking about some embeded mini PC, fanless, equipped with slot for SCSI, with SOME smart system on-board, to deal with iMac for type recording. The option is previous Apple model, but to be honest, I became Mac/OSX user 4 years ago. I fell in love with Mac, but my knowledge about previous models is based on Google....
    My desk becomes full of boxes. Do you know how big Quantum TC-L42BX is ? Is very big. And now another box.....another keyboard....another screen... And one small adapter could solve the problem. Eh....
    Best regards,
    Marek

          * (ii) the thread is started.
         public void start() {
               * Starting the TargetDataLine. It tells the line that we now want to
               * read data from it. If this method isn't called, we won't be able to
               * read data from the line at all.
              m_line.start();
               * Starting the thread. This call results in the method 'run()' (see
               * below) being called. There, the data is actually read from the line.
              super.start();
          * Stops the recording.
          * Note that stopping the thread explicitely is not necessary. Once no more
          * data can be read from the TargetDataLine, no more data be read from our
          * AudioInputStream. And if there is no more data from the AudioInputStream,
          * the method 'AudioSystem.write()' (called in 'run()' returns. Returning
          * from 'AudioSystem.write()' is followed by returning from 'run()', and
          * thus, the thread is terminated automatically.
          * It's not a good idea to call this method just 'stop()' because stop() is
          * a (deprecated) method of the class 'Thread'. And we don't want to
          * override this method.
         public void stopRecording() {
              m_line.stop();
              m_line.close();
          * Main working method. You may be surprised that here, just
          * 'AudioSystem.write()' is called. But internally, it works like this:
          * AudioSystem.write() contains a loop that is trying to read from the
          * passed AudioInputStream. Since we have a special AudioInputStream that
          * gets its data from a TargetDataLine, reading from the AudioInputStream
          * leads to reading from the TargetDataLine. The data read this way is then
          * written to the passed File. Before writing of audio data starts, a header
          * is written according to the desired audio file type. Reading continues
          * untill no more data can be read from the AudioInputStream. In our case,
          * this happens if no more data can be read from the TargetDataLine. This,
          * in turn, happens if the TargetDataLine is stopped or closed (which
          * implies stopping). (Also see the comment above.) Then, the file is closed
          * and 'AudioSystem.write()' returns.
         public void run() {
              try {
                   AudioSystem.write(m_audioInputStream, m_targetType, m_outputFile);
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              if (args.length != 1 || args[0].equals("-h")) {
                   printUsageAndExit();
               * We have made shure that there is only one command line argument. This
               * is taken as the filename of the soundfile to store to.
              String strFilename = args[0];
              File outputFile = new File(strFilename);
               * For simplicity, the audio data format used for recording is hardcoded
               * here. We use PCM 44.1 kHz, 16 bit signed, stereo.
              AudioFormat audioFormat = new AudioFormat(
                        AudioFormat.Encoding.PCM_SIGNED, 44100.0F, 16, 2, 4, 44100.0F,
                        false);
               * Now, we are trying to get a TargetDataLine. The TargetDataLine is
               * used later to read audio data from it. If requesting the line was
               * successful, we are opening it (important!).
              DataLine.Info info = new DataLine.Info(TargetDataLine.class,
                        audioFormat);
              TargetDataLine targetDataLine = null;
              try {
                   targetDataLine = (TargetDataLine) AudioSystem.getLine(info);
                   targetDataLine.open(audioFormat);
              } catch (LineUnavailableException e) {
                   out("unable to get a recording line");
                   e.printStackTrace();
                   System.exit(1);
               * Again for simplicity, we've hardcoded the audio file type, too.
              AudioFileFormat.Type targetType = AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE;
               * Now, we are creating an SimpleAudioRecorder object. It contains the
               * logic of starting and stopping the recording, reading audio data from
               * the TargetDataLine and writing the data to a file.
              SimpleAudioRecorder recorder = new SimpleAudioRecorder(targetDataLine,
                        targetType, outputFile);
               * We are waiting for the user to press ENTER to start the recording.
               * (You might find it inconvenient if recording starts immediately.)
              out("Press ENTER to start the recording.");
              try {
                   System.in.read();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
               * Here, the recording is actually started.
              recorder.start();
              out("Recording...");
               * And now, we are waiting again for the user to press ENTER, this time
               * to signal that the recording should be stopped.
              out("Press ENTER to stop the recording.");
              try {
                   System.in.read();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
               * Here, the recording is actually stopped.

              out("SimpleAudioRecorder: usage:");
              out("\tjava SimpleAudioRecorder -h");
              out("\tjava SimpleAudioRecorder <audiofile>");
              System.exit(0);
         private static void out(String strMessage) {
              System.out.println(strMessage);
    }

    I've never used it, but I believe Garage Band has a recording option.
