Recording sounds on the fly

Can anyone tell me if you can record sounds on the fly?
By that I mean during my voice recording and not in post production.
Our podcast is a live event. We do no editing or postproduction. Currently I use a PC to play sounds and feed them through the mixer into the line in on my iMac. I was hoping that GB3 podcast recording would allow me to just double click a file and have it added to my mix. I can't seem to figure out how to do this.
Most podcasters I know do zero post production. I can't understand why Apple wouldn't provide this feature.
Thanks,
Bry

Seems like we both have the same problem! I figured out how to assign an mp3 to a track then drag it to the "Musical Typing Keyboard" See this thread for details:

You can also see my thread too, I appear to be asking for the same thing but dragging in each audio track seems way too complicated. I just want to play my audio clips from iTunes (from a little tempary playlist) during my show aka Daily Source Code. Let's figure this ***** out!

  • Dynamically  populate  a  record  group  on  the  fly uisng LOV

    Hi,
    I want to create dynamically populate a record group on the fly uisng LOV.
    1. This is how the RG_BANKNAME Record Group object look like
    Object : Record Group
    Name : RG_BANKNAME
    Record Group Query : SELECT NAME, SHORT_NAME FROM C_BANKS
    2. I create the Push Button and when user click it will popup the LOV.
    DECLARE
         rg_id RecordGroup;
         errcode NUMBER;
         status BOOLEAN;
    BEGIN
         rg_id := Find_Group('RG_BANKNAME');
         IF Id_Null(rg_id) THEN
              Message('No such group: ',ACKNOWLEDGE);
              RAISE Form_Trigger_Failure;
         ELSE
              errcode :=POPULATE_GROUP(rg_id);
              SET_LOV_PROPERTY('LV_NAME', TITLE, 'My Own LOV');
              SET_LOV_PROPERTY('LV_NAME', GROUP_NAME, rg_id);
              SET_LOV_COLUMN_PROPERTY('LV_NAME', 1 ,Title, 'NAME');
              SET_LOV_COLUMN_PROPERTY('LV_NAME', 1 ,Width, 150);
              SET_LOV_COLUMN_PROPERTY('LV_NAME', 2 ,Title, 'SHORT NAME');
              SET_LOV_COLUMN_PROPERTY('LV_NAME', 2 ,Width, 100);
              status := Show_LOV('LV_NAME',10,20);
              IF NOT status THEN
                   Message('You have not selected a value.');
                   Bell;
              END IF;
         END IF;
    END;
    My question is do I need to create the LOV Object name call 'LV_NAME'? since I don't have this
    create on my design times, because I thought it can be done dynamically on the fly.
    The problem is compliant that the Lov Id is not valid.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    You request is not clear. Do you need to display the LOV or not ? In other words, what is the goal of your record group ?

  • Recording sound from the PC

    I am currently running a mixer into the front audio input jack on my PC, and have all external stuff (mic, mini disk, etc) coming through that.
    Am I able to set up audition so that it can also record sound from the PC. For example, if I want to grab audio from a you tube video, or have an online voice chat or something enabled, can I open audition and record it? I have tried, but not been successful. My only idea is having to run the audio out of the PC, into a channel in the mixer, and then back into the PC with everything else.
    Any help?

    This so-called 'forum' has absolutely no use for its FAQs any more. Fortunately, AudioMasters has saved them all, and you can find that particular one here.

  • Recording audio from the web without recording sound from the internal microphone...

    Is there a way to record audio sound sources, for example a webcast in a browser, without without also recording sound thru the built in internal microphone on the MacPro laptop running Mountain Lion?

    You need something along the lines of Audio Hijack Pro or WireTap Studio.  The latter is currently broken in Lion and Mountain Lion for your purposes, so that leaves Audio Hijack Pro.  Neither is free, but both are worth their asking price (well, WireTap Studio will be once they deign to repair it).
    HTH.

  • Can't record sound using the jack in/out on macbook pro 13 os x

    hi
    i bought a new macbook pro 13' intel core i5 4gb with the latest os x version 10.8.2. mainly for sound and video editing
    yesterday i tried to record sound using garage band and through the mini jack port. once i connected an mp3 player to the mini jack port, the sound prefrences window recognized it as headphones and not as input jack as it did on my friend's same mac with leopard os on it.
    it seems like no matter what i try to do (changing instument set up on garage band, restarting the computer with the jack in or out etc...) nothing worked
    i bought this mac just so i wouldn't have to deal with these kind of problems....suppose to be a very user friendly os and hardwear.
    very dissapointing. please if any one has a clue what can be done?

    i'm aware of my other audio interface options, but i would expact this machine to have the basic options every 20 year old pc has, a simple plug and play difault to get audio into my computer. i bought it at b and h in NY and in their specs it says that it's a 'combo kack' - meaning both in and out analog audio ports. after cheaking mac's site it says only headphones.
    also tryied to connect a digidesign mini mbox2, through the usb port, and i had to unplug it, shut down the mbp, restart it again etc.. and it also doesn't always work propely and makes all kinds of digital error sounds.
    although in this case i can't that the mbox is not damaged.
    over all it's very dissapointing. it's my first mac and i figured it would be a much more idiot proof, user freindly work tool.
    if you got any other tips i'd appreciate that
    thanx alot for the focusrite link

  • How to listen to music and record sound at the same time

    I want to figure out a way to record sound and listen to my music at the same time. Most recording apps stop my music when it starts to record and I can't find an app that does both. Any ideas?

    Not possible since the iPod only has one audio processor.

  • Recording sound through the speakers of a Satellite L750D

    Hi,
    I am trying to set up my Satellite L750D (psk36a-038008) so I can record using the sound that gets sent to the speakers and not just the input from the microphone. (whatever comes through the speakers could be recorded by whatever sound recording software I use). I was able to do this on a previous laptop (not Toshiba) but this one doesn't want to do it.
    In the recording tab of the microphone, I have got the 'Show Disabled Devices' option ticked/checked but nothing else is showing apart from the conexant microphone.
    The laptop is less than 1 month old, does it need new drivers already?
    Thanks

    And what is the source for this sound?
    Do you want to record music from internet radio or what?
    As far as I know Toshiba has build-in microphone and it is designed to be used with communications applications like Skype, MSN or something similar. As far as I know when mic is ON speakers are OFF.
    It works on this way to avoid microphony effect.
    To be honest it is not known to me that you can force notebook to work on this way and record sound that comes from speakers.

  • My iPhone 4 wont record sound on the Video Camera. It sounds muffled.

    Today, I was trying to record a video but when I was reviewing it i notice that the sound was all muffled like if I was covering the microphone. So I took of my OtterBox Defender Case but that wasnt the problem at all. I tried blowing on both microphones that didnt work I tried cleaning it out with a cotton swab but no luck! Please help me someone!

    Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
    If you have gone through ALL the above steps and are still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

  • Macbook Pro: Play and record sound at the same time

    Greetings everyone,
    My brother and I have are going to switch go a mac, preferebly to a macbook pro. we used windows so far, but the frustration has grown extremely huge, so it's time to throw off this junk.
    We've been working with sound a lot and many times we recorded any sound which played through the computer: that means sound and music from dvds and games or other sources, we couldn't get anywhere else. What we did is simply letting the game or dvd play and record the audio at the same time.
    I've testet this functionality in windows via bootcamp on a macbook of friend of mine, but NOT the macbook pro version. It's wasn't really that good as I thought. Sound quality was below what I'd expect.
    So here are my questions:
    - Does the macbook pro have a better sound card, which enables simultaneos play + record?
    - Is good record quality bound to a software I need to use?
    Thanks for your replies.

    Apple don't have separate "sound cards" like PC's , Martin. The necessary hardware is proprietary , and built into the logic boards.
    Both of them have high quality combined optical digital input and audio line in, and combined optical digital output and audio line out. You can also attach various USB or firewire audio input and output devices if you wish. So as far as 'quality" goes, it depends what you are playing them through more than anything else. The inherent audio abilities of both are pretty danged good when using Mac specific software. That is why the music industry love 'em!
    Or are you just talking about sound quality through the built in speakers, which are, of course severely limited by the amount of space available, though I've heard far worse from many PC notebooks!?
    Cheers

  • Sound Card Found-Satelitte P50-Now I can record sound off the laptop.

    Greetings,
    Hopefully, this  will save some people from going through what I went through.
    When I tried to record music that was playing on the laptop with a sound recording program, it would record the audio through the webcam microphone. And it sounded terrible. Toshiba support had no idea how to fix it.
    However, after many  hours of poking around I discovered the fix. Go to the All Control Panel Items and click on the Sound. Then click on the Recording tab. Do a Right-Click and click on the Show Disabled Devices.
    You will find Stereo Mix. Enable this device. Now when you run your sound recording program, you will have the choice of selecting the Stereo Mix and you will be able to record what you hear on your laptop.
    Why Toshiba has this feature disabled is beyond me...but I hope this helps others.

  • Recording sounds using the built-in microphone.

    I would like to record some household sounds and save them to iTunes. How can I do this? I have been able to download some sounds from commercial sites, but need different ones.

    You preferences may be different.
    blue apple > system preferences > sound
    Click on red circle to start record.
    Click on square to stop recording.
    Click on back to start
    click on green triangle to play.

  • Can you record sounds and save as a ringtone with the IPhone4?

    I'm new to the IPhone. All other phones I' ve used in the past I could save sounds and use them as a ringtone. I just can't seem to figure it out with the I4. Can it be done?

    You can record sounds with the Voice Memos app, then sync them to your computer by selecting "Include voice memos" on the Music tab of y0ur iTunes sync settings and syncing your phone.  Once synced to your computer they will appear in a Voice Memos playlist that iTunes creates on the left sidebar.  Then you have to convert it to a ringtone using iTunes as shown here: Create free ringtones with iTunes 10.  After this is done, you can check the ringtone in your iTunes library, then check Sync Tones on the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync.  Custom ringtones will appear in Settings>Sounds>Ringtone at the top of the list.

  • HP Mini 110-1160SA problem recording sound from sound card

    I am trying to record sound from the sound card itself rather than an external or internal microphone, using a free software called Sonarca Sound Recorder. For example, I play radio from the internet using the BBC Iplayer. I have Windows 7 Starter. When I use the Windows Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices, I get a window called Sound. I press the Recording tab, and get a choice of Internal Microphone, External Microphone, and Stereo Mix. According to my sound recorder software's documentation, I need to select that Stereo Mix, because it means "record whatever the sound card is playing". However, the Stereo Mix recording device, despite having a red tick mark next to it is "Currently Unavailable". How do I make it available?

    to be honest, i am not sure about your problems, normally, you need to set stereo mix as default device, then using recording devices to record sound on windows 7. Since you cannot make it, why not insall a virtual sound device, it works like a real one, install this streaming music recorder on your system, start recording. Just test it out by yourself.
