Recording Streaming Audio

I know it's a newb question but a forum search didn't help me yet...
I've been using AA 1.0 for the last 5 years on my HP DV4170US laptop and when I needed to record something from an audio stream or from a DVD, etc. - I'd go to the volume thing in bottom right corner, choose recording, and use the mono out option.  Life was good!
I just purchased a Dell Inspiron and loaded up AA 3.0.  I was testing it and realized that this Dell doesn't have a mono out record option, just Mic/Line In, Mic Array (default setting - must be an internal mic because clicking on it picked up me cussing that I couldn't figure this out and nothing's plugged in right now), and Rec. Playback.
Is there any way to download/install a mono out option too so I can record audio streams like I used to be able to?
Yes, I realize it's not an A.A. question persay but I've been a faithful user of A.A. for 5 years now and you guys seem to be the most knowledgable group when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Thanks!

OK... I'm not a complete idiot... I am realizing that Rec. Playback is the sound card (mono out setting I was referring to) but I can't CHOOSE which input I want to take!  It keeps taking this internal mic rather than the sound card... I guess the question is how do I force it to take that Rec. Playback as the input?  Any advice appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Recording streaming audio at different quality levels with SB PC

Hi, I am trying to record streaming audio (lectures) on my computer. I have tried recording with Creative Wave Studio (ver 4.0) and Creative Recorder (ver .04). I am running windows98. This is the problem. I can record with both of these programs IF I select the 'recording format' as 'CD quality, 44,00 hz, 6 bit, stereo, 72kb/s.' However, the resulting file sizes are huge at this quality. When I change the recording format to 'Telephone quality, ,025 hz, 8 bit, mono, kb/s' I cannot record a single thing with either program. When I press record I get the following message: "RECSVR - MMSYSTEM004 the specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free and then try again." If I change back to the high quality, the error goes away. Very frustrating. I make sure that I have the right input source selected. I tried both 'wave' and 'modem' input source, but there was no change. If anyone can help me with a little guidance, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for help.

    Hi
Can you record using mp3 or wma -format (on 28kbps) with these tools you have? These formats packs wav data to ~/0 deal from original without huge quality loss.
If not you can try if there is some other recording tools. There are also freeware products on many SW sites like

  • How can I record streaming audio???

    HP HDX 18T laptop
    Windows 7
    NCH Wavepad sound editor
Hi, I desperately need help with this issue:
Is there anyway I can turn "OFF" the speakers so sound does not come from them, but STILL have audio levels active internally so I record streaming audio with my NCH software Wavepad program?
I've been trying everything .. in the Control Panel setup, I am trying to "capture" streaming audio with my Wavepad program, but I can only attenuate the "mic" levels that the actual laptop picks up .. for example, if there's background noise in the room, it picks that up - I DON'T WANT THAT! - I only want the streaming audio from a recording - not the background sounds in the room.
Folks at NCH Software keep telling me to check with laptop of Windows advice.
Wavepad used to do this easily and cleanly before (well, on other computers and other Windows versions)
If I go into Windows Mixer, and turn down Speakers, it also forces to turn down System Sounds - I do not want system sounds down; only speakers.
    Summary:
I want to record streaming audio into my audio capture software.
I want to independantly cancel laptop speaker output, while maintaining audio levels for streaming capture.
I DO NOT want extraneous sounds in the room's background picked up by the laptop's mic, which then interferes with the recording.
(or is there a Windows program that will do this for me? I spent $$$ on the deluxe Wavepad software ,, but it's not doing what it used to do)
Any help, or advice will be GREEEEEEatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks, Michael

    Fixed (I think ....?)
Turns out there's no "Stereo Mix" option in my Control Panel sound boxes .. apparantly no one else has it either in Windows 7??? depending on sound card ...
Well, a work-around is to connect a male mini-plug "Y" into [one of] the laptop's headphone outs; then run a mini-plug cord (male-to-male) from it to the laptop mic "in" ... that leaves one unused female mini-plug on the "Y" .. which you can then run your headphones (or speakers ) off of.
Found that solution online .. got the parts; it works now.
Still baffled why there's no "Stereo Mix" in Windows 7 ....?

  • Record streaming audio with XFI Xtreme Audio C

I just got a new pc with this card and unfortunately it has no what u hear or stereo? mix record option. Can I loop the Digital output device(SPDIF) into the Digital input device(SPDIF) to record streaming audio? I can't install a different card because it will void my extended warranty. Thanks

I had no trouble recording "what you hear" streaming audio with my extreme audio (pcie). If you are using the same card I'll walk you through it, if you're using the pci version, take a look to see if it's the same and try it. Open Creative console launcher (by clicking the icon in the system tray), select the mixer, find the record ("rec") slider, (on my console it's on the far right) click the little triangle in the box at the top of the slider, select "what u hear", open creative mediasource, hit record, and start the streaming audio.

  • Record streaming audio with Audiophile 2496

    Hi.
I installed a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI sound card and I have normal output thru speakers. The problem is I can't figure out how to record streaming audio on my computer. I read elsewhere that all I had to do is launch a sound recording app and configure sound input/ output. I have used Sound Studio 2 and Audacity, tweaked thru various settings but to no avail, as I just have no input indication at all. Wd greatly appr your instructions, thanks.

  • Recording Streaming Audio Directly into Logic 8?

Is it possible to record streaming audio directly into Logic 8. I would like to grab some sound bites from web sites and various other places and lay them down as Audio tracks in Logic 8.
I know WireTap Pro will do it for $30 but I wonder if I could just do it in Logic.
Again, thank you for your time.

Or you could also use the loopback trick and just plug your interface's outputs >into it's inputs - be careful of your routing to avoid feedback though...
Hi Bee Jay .. I wonder if you would mind advising on this setup:
Normally I hear everything that comes out of the computer via the following route:
Out of computer via Firewire and into Motu828
Then out of Motu 828 and into Mixer channels 1 & 2 which are set to Monitor only. ie I hear all audio ( including streaming audio from computer) through my monitor speakers and the signal does not go back into Logic.
All the other mixer channels (3 - 16) I use for recording. Mics and line inputs routing these back into the MOTU (and then the computer) by buttons on the individual channel of the mixer. ie If the button is up on a particular mixer channel it comes out the speakers and does not record in Logic. If the button is down then that channel records into Logic (via a loom into the MOTU).
I was warned on no account to press the buttons down on channels 1 & 2 ( because those were the main outs to monitor Logic's signal ) ...
But that if I *switched off the channel output in Logic channel strip* - then I could press down those buttons on Channel 1 and 2 and route whatever audio was coming out of the computer ( iTunes, You Tube etc) back into Logic to record.
I did this some time ago and it worked ... but for some reason, now even though I have the Logic Channel outputs switched off, I still get the most horrendous howling feedback if I try to record Streaming Audio or iTunes.
If you or anyone else has advice on what would be causing this, I would be most grateful

  • Recording Streaming Audio Using Total Recorder in Vi

Last year I purchased High Criteria's Total Recorder to successfully record sounds over the internet, etc. Earlier this year I bought a new PC with Vista and onboard sound, and I?installed Total Recorder on the new PC. ?It no longer worked. I checked their website, but they weren't much help. They said to look for a "wave out" option in recording, but there was none. Thinking that it was the onboard audio causing the problem, I bought and installed an Audigy SE sound card yesterday. While it gives me a few more recording options, I still can't use Total Recorder. Cqan anyone please give me some suggestions as to how to make this work? Or is there another program out there to record streaming audio in Vista? Thanks.

  • Record Streaming Audio

Is there anyway to record streaming audio directly on a Garageband track?

The only method I can think of is to "shortcut" a connection between your headphones out and the line-in. But that doesn't yield very good results.
However, you can record the streaming audio with software like AudioHijack or WireTap and then import the resulting audio file into GB. Just a couple of clicks more - or why do you want to record it directly into GB?

  • Audition 4 for Mac - Recording Streaming Audio

    Hello All,
Apologies to all if this subject has been covered already, but couldn't find the answer.
I have just downloaded Audition 4 for Mac (beta), and I'm trying to work out how to record streaming audio off iTunes, Youtube etc, straight into Audition, without picking up anything else in the background?
    Thanks in advance!

audition4 is good for Mac while recording streaming audio, cool it is. But i guess there are free applications for recording streaming audio, for some users. More options can be available for you here: audacity, limewire, streaming music recorder.

  • DV6-3120us cannot record streaming audio

There is a program I like that streams it's audio on the Internet but is at an hour that is very inconvenient for me to listen to. They do not offer any downloadable file. In the past I have used Audacity to record the program and then listen the next day. I've done this with both Compaq and HP desktops and laptops as well as other manufacturers.
I have not been able to do it with my current HP laptop [DV6-3120us [AMD Turion II P-540 Dual Core 2.40GHz]] which has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with 4GB RAM.
I am currently using Audacity 2.0.0. I have followed the instructions at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq_i18n?s=recording&i=streaming and have also tried http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html. In both cases I get nothing but a static hum but none of the audio I can hear playing through my speakers. I tried it while having my Bluetooth headset connected but it made no difference. I have tried recording other streaming audio in case the stream was being blocked from recording but could not record any of them. I also tried recording audio generated by the computer and could not. I have hooked up both a CD player and a tapedeck to the line-in and microphone jacks and was able to record the sounds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hI jIM66, Sorry to hear that you are having issues with the sound and recording on your computer.  I have found a updated Audio driver for you that may resolve the issue.  Please click on the link that I have provided and do the download.  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4308... On this same page is a download for the HP Support Assistant. The Support Assistant is a great tool to use if you think you may have issues with your computer. It will run threw a scan on your computer and come back with pin pointed diagnostics so I suggest that you download and install it as well.
If these steps do NOT resolve the issue, please feel free to respond.

  • How can I record streaming audio 10.6.8?

If I want to record live streaming audio to listen to later is there a way?

According to the description Soundflower should be able to intercept the streaming audio and pipe it to any audio recording program (Audacity?).

  • Recording streaming audio question

Sorry if I have the wrong forum. Is there any Apple applications you can use to record a streaming radio station (i.e. say a football game).....Thanks

You can use Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ in combination with Soundflower http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/
They're free but it's a little more complicated than using Audio Hijack Pro http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/ That's what I use.

No, I meant in the Windows master volume control recording drop-down list. You should be selecting "What-U-Hear."

  • Non streaming audio recorder

    Hi there,
I'm a pretty new in a flash programming. All I need is to
capture the microphone and to record a voice on the local file.
I know how can I do that using a stream to the Flash Media
Server, but the storing local file seems to me a hard job.
Can you give me a hint?
    Regards,

HI, guys. you need a good quality mic and sound recorder. Connect your mic to computer, then start recording. But the key program is what kind of program should you use. Some highly recommended ones include adobe audition, audacity, freecorder etc. you can also test out this one to record streaming audio or own voice.
