Recording THREE Real Instruments Simultaneously - MIXER?

I am recording gtr and an electronic drum kit at the same time but would love my Bassist to get in on the 'Real Time/Live' action.
My MBOX only has two inputs. How can i get the Bass hooked up as well? Would a Mixer do the trick? I need three inputs.

I don't have much experience with the Aggregate Device option, I've only tried it to see how it works. However, from Apple's documentation, you can create an Aggregate device from any interfaces that are set to the same Sample Rate and Bit Depth. As far as I know that means you could even mix USB and FireWire devices as long as they were all set to 44.1K and 16-bits.
So the short answer is, to the best of my knowledge, yes, you could use the Tascam, but I've never tried it.

Recording multiple Real Instruments simultaneously

I am new to this forum. After having my iBook G4 for several years, I'm just getting around to trying Garage Band v1.1.0. After reading the tutorials, I can't find anything in there about recording several instruments at the same time. Can this version record multiple tracks? What sort of audio interface would I need?

In your recording settings (File > Song Settings > Recording), check 'Auto Demix by Channel if Multitrack Recording'. Then adjust the Channel parameter of each instrument track (in the Object parameter box on the left) to the MIDI Channel of the corresponding MIDI Controller.

Recording Multiple Real Instruments Live

Hey everyone, I just wanted to ask if you might know if this feature is usable through the iMic? If so, how? Does it show each instrument as a differnt track or all on one?
I need as much info on this feature and the pitch altering feature as possible. Please help!
Also if you know or have anything on if GB2 can handle a tempo change mid-track, once again if so.. how??

The emagic EMI 6|2 is a USB audio interface with 6 inputs. It has not been manufactured for some time, but some retailers in the UK still carry new units, and the price has come down from nearly £300 to around £180, as in the link. I don't know where you live, but similar deals may be available. The drawback of this unit is that it has no preamp or phantom power, so you have to give it a line level input.

Newbie here...when I try to record a real instrument track

..i get the following pop up window
"Audio record path not found Please set it in the following dialog"
And that's it. There is no following dialog! What's the problem here?

What are you trying to record from - the built-in line input, the built-in microphone, or an audio interface?
Have you set the input in GarageBand's prefs (on a PowerMac you have to set GB to built-in and select mic or line in the system prefs)?

How do I record multiple midi instruments in Logic Pro simultaneously on separate tracks?sim

Hi. I am trying to record multiple midi instruments simultaneously into Logic Pro 9 through a MOTU USB Fas Lane so that it is similar to recording a live band.
Essentially:
Track 1: Midi Keyboard - Motu Fast Lane Input A - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Absynth)
Track 2: Midi Drum Kit - Motu Fast Lane Input B - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Battery)
Neither Midi device can be set to a separate channel.
I would have thought this was a really common application (recoding from multiple live midi sources like a band would normally do) yet it seems unnecessarily complicated.
I gather what I would have to do involves:
1) Going into the Environment.
2) Creating a Physical Input
3) Creating a Sequencer Input
4) Placing a transofrmer between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input
Where to go ffrom there I have not got a clue!
Any help would be appreciated.
Incidentally I would also like to record two audio tracks at the same time as the midi track, but hoepfully that does not complicate things further.

Garageband skipping "record real instrument" section

Hey everybody,
I'm having a little problem that is driving me insane!! When I open garageband, I want to record a real instrument, but when I go to the create new playlist section, it goes straight to the saving options menu. It didn't do this before and I barely used it. I want it back the way it was!!!!
Please, can someone help me get to the record real instrument menu??

I assume you are talking about the "Create new music project" button - and when you click this, GB asks you to name the project and save it somewhere. It has always done this, GB doesn't allow for working with unsaved "Untitled" documents (which is sometimes a pain, like when you want to just check some feature to answer a forum question).

Looping real instruments - follow time of project option not selectable

Hi,
I've recorded a real instrument track, now I would like to make it loopable and safe it to the instruments library.
So, I trimmed it to the desired lenght and wanted to export it.
Now my problem:
the export option "follow time and tonality" is not selectable irrespective whether or not I checked the box at the bottom in the edit track window that should allow the loop for following the project parameters.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?

It seems that it is crucial to adjust the region one wants to loop to an integer bar lenght, then recheck the box, follow time and tonality in the track window. I have noticed that although following the same proceedure sometimes it not possible to export the such a loop as one that follows the tempo of the song (unable to check box, in the loop-export dialogue). To me the reason is not completely clear, often it requires some trial and error, import loop in new project to export it as a tempo following one.

Real Instruments play beyond end of repeated loop

I've tried every google-fu trick I could think of to see if anyone else has had this problem.
I record a real instrument (say an electric guitar riff). I drag/repeat/loop it 3 or 4 times. It plays properly.
Then at some point I select it, and move it left or right.
The part starts at the right time, but will repeat an extra time beyond the visible onscreen loop. Once this glitch occurs, neither resaving, shrinking/re-repeating, moving it around and then back to where I want it make the track end when it's supposed to.
The only way I've found around it, is to end the repeat early and let the erroneous repeat play out, or just end the repeat entirely, and use cut'n'paste instead.
This happens to me *all the time*... anyone else seen this or have a resolution?

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't remember deleting any tracks... however, how would i check for "hidden" tracks?
The funny thing is i can hear the effect returns for the real instrument tracks...tracks that are heavily reverbed i can hear a faint echo of the track. and like i mentioned the drum loop and software piano still play fine.
And, I also see monitor activity in the real instrument tracks when i play the song. Everything looks normal, but of course, the sound isn't there.

Real instrument Troubles (built in mic wont turn off...kinda)

I'm new to this whole GB3 biz, but I've used CoolEdit Pro alot in the past. Anyway, in CEP, I was able to connect my electric guitar directly into my microphone jack using an adabter, and it would pick it up just fine.
But Im not having so much luck with my mac (the other comp was a PC) Anyway, because the new MBP's have that built in Mic, it wont leave me alone! I plug in the guitar, go to prefrences and select Built-In Audio, but when I try and record, its not reading the guitar from the audio jack, instead its recording from the builtin microphone, so I get this shotty, horrible sounding crap.
I've tried turning the microphone volume off, muting it etc etc, I've read all the tutorials about recording a Real instrument, but am having no luck. Whatever I do, GB3 just isn't reading the signal from the audioport, it keeps insisting on reading it from the microphone or nothign at all.
Anyhelp is much appreciated, thanks a ton guys.

I am having the same problem but I cannot change my input setting in the GB preferences there is no option in the drop down menu for audio input it just says built in audio and thats it. I had the previous version of garageband and was able to connect my my keyboard via midi to the computer and could hear and record in the older version but now nothing. please help.

Will Not Create Real Instrument Track

When I try to create a Real Instrument track nothing happens. Any ideas? I'm using GarageBand 3.0.5 (104.10)

I'm having the same problem and using the same version of GarageBand - 3.0.5 (104.10).
When I go to create a new track and choose "Real Instrument," the Track Info always says "Software Instrument" regardless of what I click. I'm trying to record a banjo without any pickups, so I can't plug in, but without being able to indicate that I'm recording a real instrument, I can't use the built in mic either.
Please help!

One real instrument track becomes blurry and delayed

I recorded two real instrument tracks in GB. I successfully recorded the first track and then the 2nd track, but when I returned to play the first track it sounded blurry and delayed while the 2nd one sounded fine. Why is this?

I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.

But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

Real instruments - recording/input levels

...when i am recording real instruments, the input level and recording level are inaccessible.
i click on them with the mouse, but nothing happens.
are they preset? non-adjustable?
i can adjust the playback volume, of course, as well as other parameters like pan, monitor on/off, mute, solo, and add compression, echo, reverb and so on.

Need help with Garage Band 11 and my TASCAM interface recording Real Instrument

I am using a TASCAM US-122 interface with garage band 11 on a mac at 32 bit running osx 10.6.6. Garage Band preferences / audio input and output set to TASCAM (which means it recognizes it) , but when using Real Instrument for the TASCAM and the track is armed , etc... the record function works when started except "no sound" from the device I am running thru TASCAM is being detected.
I am getting sound out of the TASCAM and simply running an AKAI mpc beat as a test. I am sure there is something simple I have yet to do but not sure what it is in Garage Band.

with the real instrument track selected...
make sure the info pane is showing on the right (click the little "i" on the bottom right to open it; "Real Instrument" should be highlighted in blue on top).
On the bottom of the info pane it says "Input Source" and "Monitor."
Make sure the Input Source is set to the Tascam channel you're using (the channel, mono or stereo, that you've plugged your MPC into).
And if you want to hear it as you record, make sure the Monitor is set to ON.

CANNOT RECORD REAL INSTRUMENT ON TO TRACK

I need help with a sound recording issue. I have a Macbook, an M-box2 with Protools and Garage Band software. Recently i have had a challenge trying to figure out what went wrong and where. I've used my setup many times before but, all of a sudden, I am unable to record a live sound or instrument, through all inputs on the m-box2. when i attempt to record a live instrument or sound... i get that sound through the monitors BUT, no sound is recorded on the track being used... however... I do have a signal on my levels indicator that is 3/4 of the way to the peak point... but, they don't move at all. There is also a visual recorded consistently monotone looking waveform that appears to be some sort of sound or signal, but is not audible and it does not fluctuate as a normal sound does. *PLEASE HELP ME!!!*

I have the same problem, I think. In my case, if I select "Real Instrument" when I open a new track, the Track Info box on the right has only Software Instruments available. In other words, I don't see a "Real Instruments" button next to the "Master Track" button, only Software Instruments. Further, I cannot get it to record anything from the audio line-in. I know the mic/line-in is working, but it's not registering in GarageBand (regardless of which input is selected in GB preferences). Another quirk: if I delete the Inst1 track that it starts with, then I cannot even click onto the Software Instruments to select one.
