Recording through Line-In causes hum

Hello Apple User,
i want to record my vinyls to my Mac.
I always used the Line-In from my Powerbook and it worked fine.
Now, i got a new iMac Intel and i want to do the same thing, but when i plug the cable in, i get a hum, which i can hear through my headphones at the mixer.
It's like a feedback hum from the computer.
Setup
Technics MKII > Ecler HAK 320 > Cinch-Line-In Adapter > iMac
Is the hard-drive too close to the Audio-in ?
Or any other idea ?

ok, i answered it by myself.
It was the power cable.

when i select microphone in the audio panel - it works
when i select line-in and plug in the 3.5mm jack input to 3.5mm jack input to a fm radio for ex. it doesn't work
how do i make the line-in work?
i remember that when i first installed mac osx sl and windows xp bootcamp - the first couple of times around when partitioning the hd - the line-in worked a couple of times, in between times somewhere along the line i made some change to the spdif settings ?? or driver / to make the red light that comes on in the line-in jack go away - the other method was to use a toothpick to push a tiny button inside the jack, did that once -but the redlight came back again after a restart on bootcamp side.

Although I don't use it, the Line-Input jack should require a signal about 40dB higher than what a microphone alone puts out. If your cable only adapts the connector and does not provide amplification, I'm not surprised you get nothing. If you are lucky, you MIGHT get a low signal by going into System Prefs/Sound/input/line-in and turning the input level slider all the way up. But the real answer to to get a mike preamp or mixer, or a mike with line-level output. Some products take a mike input and convert it to digital into the USB port.

Trying to record through line in no wo

Hey, I am using a sound blaster li've sound card and want to record through the line in port on the back. I have bought a convertor which has allowed me to plug my guitar into the line in however when i play nothing comes out and my recording programs don't reconize the line in. Nothing is muted so that is not the problem. If anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it thanks.

yeah i have a similar problem when recording through my microphone. I like to play my little guitar, sing my little songs anre record them via microphone. I noticed, no sound. I had the volume turned down as to prevent the annoying "squuueeeeeeeeeel". but i noticed when i turn my speaker volume up, it records.. but then i get the occational "squeeeeeeeeel" hmm. i'm starting to notice, i'm having all sorts of problems with thsi card. lol

I am trying to record some old jazz tracks from vinyl so I can restore the sound using Cool Edit 2000 and have connected my turntable, via an amplifier, to the line-in port on the soundcard. This system worked fine on my old PC which had no sound card but an integrated audio chip. However, it won't work on the 5. card. I get hardly any signal, not enough to show a wave form in CE2k. Turning up the volume on the amp doesn't help.
I have tried recording through Creative Recorder, Windows Recorder an CE2k but with no success.
I don't now if it is significant but the signal on the Creative Recorder monitor is exremely low (one green bar) and will not increase
I have identified the line in port as the blue coded one; I assume this is correct!!
Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Have you
- set your source level (source: LineIn) to max and
- recording source to AnalogMix(Line,CD,...) (or LineIn) and adjust it's level (can be set by pressing the icon above rec level slider)
on Surround Mixer or/and Control Panel:Sounds and Multimedia -settings panel (see these are egual).

Recording through line in on a v p

hi Alli have just bought the above and i am really pleased with it but i have one question, as i am a certain age i purchased the above so it would be easy to put some of my record collection onto my v plus ( via the line in) i was wondering if anyone knows of any software which will track mark, or do i have to record each track seperately. hope someone can help. High-frequency permanent distortion while recording through Line-In

Hi Everyone!
I'm recording music from my MiniDisc Player connected with Audio Cable to Line-In port. I'm using Real Instrumen track for this. When I record or even only listen to the music I hear permanent High-frequency Tone in background. I can record with no problems but my recordings are always accopanied with this distortion. I've checked it out also on Windows (Boot Camp) and there are no such noices. Somebody knows what could help? Maybe it's something with audio drivers?

Recording a Line Signal through Motu 828mk3 into Cubase, Please help!

Hello everyone,
So i use Motu 828mk3, pair of m-audio monitors, I have logic but find Cubase more compatible for my style. I want to record a line in signal from my DJ mixer (allen&heath xone 62, pair of Pionner cdjs-1000).
So i connect the main outs (xlr to 1/8") into my Motu analog 1-2 ins. The meter on the Motu reads the signal, i expected the signal to come through my monitors although they are silent. I dont understand what blocks the Main Outs of my Motu.(If i play a song on itunes or a sample in cubase it plays through my monitors)
I set everything correct on my Motu Audio Setup, i put Default input as my Analog 1-2, and default main outs as Main Outs.
The Cue mixer which comes with Motu reads the in signal also. I tried to get it connected though cubase too, but im assuming that once i get motu release the signal through my outs i will be able to connect it through cubase.
Seems like i tried everything in my knowledge, now i need your help. Thank you folks

Yes i checked on My system preferences, everything is there for Motu, it reads the input and it send out sound from itunes youtube etc.
In cubase, well first i feel like the input should come out the Main outs of the Motu even if wouldnt want to record anything right ?
And yes in cubase everything seems to be set to record, drivers are motu on, setting are set, the handle (little speaker) is on to record, in preferences of Device setup motu it set active.

Recording from line-in without Audacity

I've got a bunch of vinyls I'd like to start recording to my computer, and it seems that the best way to do it is through Audacity. But I seem to have the problem where PortMixer isn't included in the version of Audacity that I have, so I can't record from line-in. I've tried other versions of 1.3.x, but I can't get any of them to compile. Apparently 1.2.x would work, but it uses OSS and I have ALSA. So is there any other program that I can use to record from line-in?

Thanks, but when I tried that I hit the "Start Recording" button and it just returned to the main menu. I'm assuming its because I need xmixer installed. I tried finding it on Google, and apparently xmixer is the same as xmix, but I could only find that on Freshmeat and it seems to be broken (when you run it it just spits out some errors and quits).

Is this correct?
B)When we enter manually we are able to to Enter IBAN 34 digit code(Here we are taken to a new screen, we are using ECC.5)
we want to create NEW BDC for Infotype 0009.
C)when we tried to create Recording through SHDB the "IBAN field is Disabled
How to record. whether any ABAP Coding is required/ how we can record.
when i check in table PA0009 IBAN field is not there . but IBAN details are there in TIBAN .Please help.

I have activated IBAN field in IT0009.IT0009 - table T77S0, ADMIN IBAN 'S'. This is correct
I can suggest you to control from se11 whether PA0009 has IBAN field. Also you can check from se80 tha program MP000900 to see whether Iban field is valid. For example from T588M you may change the screen number to see IBAN field.
also there are some oss notes about this. For example in turkey IBAN is not generated according to one common rule. Every bank has special rule for generating IBAN and this sometimes can cause problems and customer than create a field with the help of customer include. And for this some Abap knowledge is required.

Trying to record through soundboard in Sound Studio?

Hi all-
I have been trying to record an audio clip into Sound Studio 2.2.4. The default is for the MacBook Pro to play the clip through the speakers and for Sound Studio to record through the microphone, in which case I can get good levels but the recording is echo-ey and bad. When I switch to the only other source option, Built-in Input, I get no signal or levels in Sound Studio at all.
Am I doing something foolish? Does SS not have this capacity? Or do Macs not use the soundboard the way a PC does? Any help would be appreciated!

I have a very similar problem on my iMac. I've tried 3 sound programs and none of them can record internally, without having to resort to speakers out mic in. Each program has an option for internally recording but the problem appears to be my own sound preferences as they just list the mic, the line in and a blue tooth device called LAVINIA that I know nothing about!

Logic X won't record through my interface, in-built microphone constantly on

Installed Logic X on my Macbook Pro, everything seems to work ok but when I try and record Logic is picking up sound through the in-built microphone even though my external interface is selected in the audio preferences box as the input. I tried to see if Logic 9 was working ok and now the same thing is happening in Logic 9, and I've never ever had this problem before. I've tried re-installing the interface's drivers and making sure they're up to date and I've also tried making sure that the input and output for the laptop sound in general is set to the external device (which is an Edirol UA-25) but still every time I hit record it records through the in-built mic but the sound comes out of the Edirol. I really cannot figure out what the issue is, somebody please help, the worst part is that installing Logic X seems to have caused this issue with Logic 9 and now I can't use either.

Recording through the Mac Audio Tracks rather than through the Mic.

I figured this would be very handy since I'm just recording the sound from a YouTube video, I don't want to have to use the mic to record the sound, If it's possible to save the Mac Audio Tracks, which is basically anything that comes out of the speaker, to a file to be used by Garageband later? Or is there a way to record, not through the mic, but using the Mac Audio Track through Garageband? It would help because I realized when I recorded through the mic that I had to worry about everyone around me being quite for a few seconds only to realize that the fan was running full boar which made the quality terrible. I know a way around this as I had the same problem once. I bought a small lead with stereo mini jack to stereo mini jack which enabled me to connect the headphones socket to the line/mic in socket. This means that any sound your computer makes can be recorded directly using any recording application, including Garageband. No fear of extraneous noise as it is a direct connection not microphone. There may well be a purely 'software' method also but I can confirm that this does work anyway.

Equium M70-339 - not possible to record through internal microphone

I have an Equium M70-339 (running XP home) not recording through internal microphone
The internal michrophone is not detecting voice - no wavy line on sound recorder and Skype not picking up my voice, yet the device manager tells me it's working properly and the microphone is selected in sound and audio settings.

Are you really sure that your notebook model has an internal mic? I have Satellite M70-159 and there is no internal mic.
