Recording to DVD from DVR

I used to have Bright House, when a progeam was finished being watched on the DVR an option was to "Record to VCR." (We used the DVD recorder). There is no option like this with FIOS. I called Verizon support (HAHA) and the agent told me - get this - that I had to call the manufacturer of the DVD recorder. I mentioned how lame an answer that was and he laughed. Would have been better off with the stock answer of "It's not available in your area."
Anybody have any fixes for this or know when it wil be available, if ever?

You can always transfer (via component, s-video, composite, or RF) to an external device like a VCR or DVD recorder.  The only caveat is that you won't be able to watch anything other than what you are transferring.  Don't know if Brighthous allowed transfer while watcing something else, but for now, that is the only way to accomplish what you are asking.

  • Problem recording to DVD from DVR

I am having a problem setting the recording speed when recording from DVR to DVD.
When recording directly from the TV (either manually or programmed), I set the recording speed using the REC MODE button on the remote and it works well.
When I record from DVR I set the recording speed the same way but the recording stops after 30 minutes. I was able to get around this by pressing the RECORD button on the set enough times to get it to register the desired speed.
I find this very awkward (and unnecessary). Is there something obvious that I am missing?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think you might be a little confused.
REC MODE is only for setting speed. Multiple times being pressed keeps changing the recording speed.
REC is only for actual recording. Multiple times being pressed increases the amount of time to record by 30 minutes.

  • Burn DVD from DVR via iDVD?

Is it possible to move a recorded television program from one's DVR to the Mac and then burn the program to a DVD using iDVD? If so, how?

You DVR needs to have a DV out in order to do this directly. You will use one of the firewire ports on your computer to capture the video/audio. If your DVR only has composite video/audio, or a coax output to the tv, then you will need to use the method given above. Either via a camcorder that will convert the analog signals to digital, or a separate converter box (i.e. Canopus) that does the same.

  • Recording tv shows from dvr to my pc

I have a brighthouse DVR and want to record some of the show's from it,I have a HP 9500y pc equiped with burnning/labaling abilty but no idea how to hook them together,or if it's even possible. any info would be great thanks

Couple of things to keep in mind here.
    1) Your PC does not have a BlueRay drive.   DVD native resolution is NTSC, ie: low def, not high def.  While
software exists to convert you lose resolution and the show is going to look terrible.
    2) Your brighthouse DVR I suspect is the one supplied by your cable TV provider, brighthouse?
If that is the case then almost certainly it is not going to have any way for the typical consumer to
make archival copies of TV shows because they want you to fill up your DVR so you have to delete
your old TV shows and get more from them (and continue to pay them, of course)
If you really want to record TV shows off brighthouse cable then this is what your going to have to do:
    1) Scrap your DVR
    2) Buy a PC that has Windows 7 on it.
    3) Buy a TV tuner card (There's an inexpensive USB one for about $50 that works great)
    4) If you subscribe to premium cable (ie: encrypted TV) then you will have to buy a
TV tuner card for the PC that has the slot in it for the cable-company supplied decryption
card.  Once you get it working with unencrypted cable you call the cable company to
come out and plug in the decryption card.
    5) Download a number of free conversion and video editing programs.  Project X is one of
the best free ones out there.
    6) Record your TV show then convert it from the .ts file to a AVI file using a codec of your
choice.  Popular ones are MPEG4, DiVX, etc.    This will not only shrink it down but it
will put it in a format that allows you to edit it to crop out the commercials.
    7) Buy more hard drives.  You will quickly find it much cheaper to create a library of
external USB hard drives (1-2 terabyte jobs) then to try to burn shows to optical media.
Have you priced blank bluray media lately?  Not to mention the burners.
You need Win 7 because earlier versions of windows do not allow TV tuners to decode the
Cable TV standard off the cable line (at least, not for the cheap tuner cards, the expensive
ones contain software that will do it)
Keep in mind I do not have brighthouse, I looked at their website but I decided not to
waste a lot of time on it since it's not clear what exactly kind of content provider they are.
If they are not a cable provider but instead your getting stuff over the Internet from them
to your DVR, then a TV tuner card isn't going to do much good of course.  If that is the
case then short of taking apart the DVR and taking the hard disk out and sticking it
in a PC to get the raw files off the DVR, your pretty much screwed.

  • Recording digital audio from dvr

Having trouble with recording audio from a dvr with a toslink cable connected to digital input on an imac. The resulting audio is high pitch static. Is Garageband capable of processing this audio, or does it have to be run through an amplifier first? Any help is appreciated

GarageBand cannot decode a Dolby Digital signal. You will need to decode it first with an external device (i.e. DVR > Amp > line output from amp > input on Mac)

  • Off-loading recorded programming from DVR to PC

How can I copy recorded programming from my DVR to my PC? Tried connecting thru RJ45 internet connection to the network, but it didn't come up as a device in the network.

I don't know this for certain, but I expect that you may not be able to copy the program as a file from your DVR even if you can establish a connection. I don't work for Verizon so I don't have access to the details, but I expect that the recording may be encrypted to preserve copyrights.
The only sure way I know to get the program to your PC would be to use a component video output (analog signals don't have a provision for copy protection) from the DVR to a video capture card on your PC that accepts component video.
I am not a lawyer, either, but I believe that making a backup copy for your own personal use may be legal under the Fair Use doctrine. You almost certainly would not have the rights to distribute copies of this program, however, whether it is for sale or even if you give it away for free. If this is what you have in mind, I recommend that you consult a lawyer before distributing the content.

  • Recording to DVD from AVCHD Camcorder?

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD100 camcorder with some hours of unusable (presently) video.  I recorded using the highest AVCHD setting and then loaded the clips into PE7 using the AVCHD setting.  I then saved the file using DV AVI setting and re-opened that file in a new project, edited and tried to burn to disc.  Although burning appeared to succeed, the disc was blank.  I could play the AVI in Windows Media Player but that was it.  I also tried saving as a folder and then burning but with no success.  The computer is working OK and I can record other files to disc.
    Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks - problem solved.  I did burn to a folder on my hard drive but had
then tried to burn the video_ts files to disc rather than burning the whole
folder.  Burnt the folder using image burn and it worked fine - just wish I
had posted the query a week ago!

Yeah, I got the "200" because I'm transferring 300 training sessions from VHS to DVD. I use the RCA inputs (three wire plug type - white & red (sound) and yellow (video)). EyeTV200 does a fine job.
I also use our Canon GL2 to pass the video through the camera via firewire into my Intel iMac. I find EyeTV 200 easier (and I can watch and record TV!) while at work! (WaaHOO!)
This is for the analog signal. TEh EyeTV 500 is for
    digital cable.
Didn't know that. Saw the "500" but thought it was for HDTV only. Thanks for the info.
Comes with EyeTV software which allows you to view a
TV guide (titantv.com) and click what you want to
    record.
True! You can even schedule it to record like a VCR. I set it up to record "Amazing Race" before leaving work because the program comes on late and I wanted to see it. Got to work and there it was!
Has S-Video as well as Composite video and stereo
    audio inputs.
So true. I also have a VCR with S-Video and it works just dandy with EyeTV 200.
I'm in the process of putting my videos onto DVD with
    it.
Let's you save directly as MPEG 1, 2, or 4.
Also exports to DV, iPod, H.264, DIVX, HD720, HD1080.
    etc.
Between this and iDVD and iMovie HD, it's some pretty
    wicked stuff.
Ain't it so! Two happy EyeTV users playing on their Macs!

  • Recording just audio from a video DVD

I thought I was ordering a CD with the music of a Broadway show. It turns out to have been a DVD of the entire production.
How do I get just the audio from the DVD into iTunes? And while I'm at it, once I get the audio, I'll need to strip the dialogue, and I haven't got any idea how to do that, either!
    Hope someone can help!
    Jimper

    Jimper
You can use Audio Hijack to record the audio from the Apple DVD player, which can be sent directly to iTunes as an ACC or AIFF file.
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/
Stripping the "dialog" (assuming dialog is spoken commentary during the performance??) will be much more difficult. There are techniques to use a an audio editing program such as Audacity
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
to invert a one side of a stereo track to remove vocals for Karaoke, but the sound quality will be greatly diminished, the bass and even the vocals may be removed.
So if there is "dialog" on all of the songs it may be cheaper to buy the CD.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I create a DVD from my iPad2 recorded videos

I have recorded several of my kid's basketball games this summer. I have had parents ask if I can make a dvd of those games to share with the other families. My PC (runnings Windows Vista) does have a DVD burner. I have been able to sync my pics through ITunes, but never videos. Also, can I burn a dvd of my videos from ITunes? I've spent the last several days searching on "how to" but haven't found anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to the DVD burner you'll also need software that is capable of authoring DVDs.
I'm not a Windows person, but I believe Vista comes with an app called Windows DVD Maker.
You might have more success finding people knowledable with it use at Microsofts support site.

  • Small Picture when Recorded to DVD

Hello, Many times I’ve copied TV programmes from my Sky+ disc to re-writeable DVDs via my DVD burner/player, thence to editing software - Adobe Premier Elements (APE) -  on my PC, to remove advertisements etc., and then I've burnt them to  blank DVDs to be shown on my TV. Basic, simple stuff and no problems ... until recently when I tried to do that with a film of about three hours length. That's longer than the programmes I usually burn to DVD from Sky, and meant that I had to set the DVD recorder to a 4-hour setting instead of the usual 2-hour or 1-hour setting, and in turn that meant that the film was recorded at a lower quality. Here’s the sequence of events:1. The film, when shown on TV from my Sky+ box, was at the normal size, i.e. it filled the (wide) screen;2. When burnt to a DVD-RW (let's call it the First DVD) and shown on TV it was still at the same size, filling the screen;3. When copied from the First DVD to APE on my PC it still filled the screen at the correct size;4. After editing on APE it was still at the same size on my PC;5. After using APE to burn it to a DVD-R (the Final DVD) it was still OK when shown on the PC by a media player; but6. When the Final DVD was shown on my TV via the DVD player, the picture had a black border around it and was exactly half the dimensions of the original Sky recording. Changing the picture ratio made no difference: the border remained and the image was smaller than the original. Since then I've tried various things with the help of someone who's cleverer than I regarding APE, but nothing has resolved the problem. However, he pointed out something strange, which was that the Sky+ box recorded to the First DVD with the frame size of 352 x 576 pixels, i.e. portrait format, not landscape, even though the film presented in landscape at every stage in the process. Would anyone have any ideas, please? Thanks, Ian

Just had FIOS installed, so I hope I am just missing some setting.
I tried out some HD movies in the VOD section. Problem is that they all play at about 1/2 size. There are black bars on the left/right AND top/bottom. In other words, I have a 16:9 picture, it is just sized at about 50% of the screen. Not to mention that the smaller picture doesn't even look that good.
SD VOD seems to work fine. Regular channels, HD and SD all play fine and fill the screen where appropriate. It is only the HD VOD content (free movies from HBO/Starz/Cinemax/etc.) that have the problem.
It this a problem with the service or is it just a setting on the DVR Box?
    jrm,
This may be a silly question, but I have to ask- do you have a High Def television?
