Recording to Hard Dr

Problem: Using the Creative Media Center I recorded a soundtrack (for slideshow) comprised of 8 tracks with crossover fading. I used the music analyzer first, then I activated the SVRL as well as the SVM (smart volume management). The "record" volume slider was placed at 00%. Recorded in wma 28kbs using "What U Hear". During the recording the L/R volume meters rarelly approached 25-30%. The recording completed perfectly. However, when replaying this recording after it was placed in the slideshow presentation (which is an .iso video production burned to DVD). The audio in sections was extremely loud and had audible "misses" almost like clipping. Did I forget something or am I not setting up the recording correctly?
Help is appreciated.

Thanks guys, I found it and it is working fine.

  • Recording to hard drive

What stuff do I need to record media to an external HD. Trying to edit Video.

    John, welcome to the forum.
Your question is really vague so don't be offended by the answer.
If you are asking about how to set up a capture - you need a camera/deck to play the video, a firewire cable to transfer the media to your computer and a disk to record the media after FCP has done its processsing. If you are capturing VHS (not DV), you will need an analog/digital converter in the signal path between the VTR and the computer.
If you know all that and were just looking for specifics regarding an external hard disk -
FCP does not officially recommend external drives as capture drives, though many use them with no issues.
Get yourself a FW800 disk if you are planning for the future. If all you intened to do is DV capture/editing, a FW400 drive will work fine.
Raid structured disks will allow you to capture up to 10 bit uncompressed (though you will need an additional capture card to support it).
Get as large a drive as you can afford. It will fill up faster than you would expect. DV runs at ~3.6mb/s (13gb/hr).
Good brands include: G-tech & Granite Digitial. A number of people use the Lacie brand but make sure you get one that is designed for video editing. SAN type drives are too slow.
Get one that is QUIET. Nothing is more anoying than listening to the fan in your external hd running at a slightly different pitch than your computer.
Get yourself a PCI firewire card to create a second FW bus for you machine. (all the oem firewire ports in a mac are on the same bus) This way, your deck/camera can be on a second path and not getting in the way of your disks. This will ease a number of issues, particularly if you use Canon cameras.
If you are interested in direct to disk recording, there are a number of companies that make nifty components. They are not inexpensive.
    good luck.

  • Is USB 2 fast enough to record to hard drive over?

Hi folks. Atthe moment I'm recording to ext HD via FireWire 800, but down the line I may well want to get a FireWire audio interface, would recording to the drive work ok over USB? Or has anyone got experience of using FireWire busses? Advice/recommended options appreciated :) ta!

While the USB 2 transfer rate may seem faster than Firewire 400, it is a "BURST RATE" meaning after a few seconds it drops substantially while Firewire starts high and stays high meaning that Firewire is faster at "SUSTAINED RATES" such as streaming audio to drives. Test it your self by copying a 1 GB file to a USB 2 drive and then to a Firewire Drive while timing the transfer... Firewire will smoke it everytime
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/schwebs-lounge/54422-usb-2-vs-firewire-400-agai n.html
    http://www.barefeats.com/usb2.html
    From GlyphTech:
"Even though USB 2.0 Hi-Speed has a theoretical max raw data rate slightly higher than FireWire (480 mbps vs. 400 mbps), the typical sustained transfer rates are about the same, because FireWire is a more efficient protocol to use in audio and video environments. In fact, in most cases, FireWire beats USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, albeit by a small margin. Very often it will be the computer or hard drive mechanism which limits the system performance more than the interface, so you might see about the same performance using FireWire-A or USB 2.0. "
    According to NEC (Dec 2004):
"Specified speed of USB 2.0 is 480 mbps (in other words, around 60 Million Bytes per second, or 57.2 MB/s), but 57.2 MB/s is NOT the actual data rate.
This is because USB 2.0 packet is inclusive of overhead data.
[Note that conversion from megabits to MegaBytes requires (x*1,000,000/8)/1,048,576.]
Moreover, idle time are added between packets.
Besides, data rate is also dependent on the system architecture, the PCI bus and the attached USB devices.
Therefore, actual data transfer rate [of USB 2.0 High-speed] will be lower than 480 mbps (57.2 MB/s).
Our measurement result of data transfer rate with USB 2.0 storage device (HDD) is about 20 - 25 MB/s on average."

  • Timestamp for change of record - MRU hard to track...

    Guys,
To track DB changes for single record form submits, I've set up a process to write username and timestamp to log the data change, no big deal.
But when the user submits a tabular form using the inbuild MRU process, is there a way of getting info back from the MRU on which records were updated to log the above mentioned info?

Alright, the extract from Default Sysdate shown below is exactly what I want, and would implement this method to write both timestamp and user to the table.
But, when I create the trigger, it does not work - ie when you hit the 'complie' button there is one error and no info. With regards to teh post below, I don't understand the ":NEW" code. Can you help?
    ---- posted by Joel...
If you have a table FOO with column THEDATE, the DDL to create this would be:
    create or replace trigger trg_biu_foo
before insert or update on foo
    for each row
    begin
    :new.thedate := sysdate;
    end;

  • IMac hard drive failing; external TM will restore but won't then back up

It appears my early 2009 (OS X 10.9.5) hard drive is failing as it crashed 6 months ago, in November and again this week. SMART Utility says it has re-allocated 6 bad sectors and there has been 1 re-allocated event. Each Time I have successfully restored from an external hard drive with TM on it. Prior to the November fail, CCC reported an odd (unknown to me system file) corrupt file but, instead of replacing the file as perhaps I should, I decided to re-boot which it wouldn't do and hence the November TM restore.
However, despite restoring successfully the external TM will no longer make back ups. I have tried repairing it but it is greyed out and Verify says 'unable to complete.' Eventually I did get the greyed out button to work but Repair reported:

Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
Whilst pondering this, the hard drive crashed again this week. Bizarrely I was able to restore from the very same external TM that will not let me do further back ups nor be repaired.
I wonder if there are any further checks I can do to establish if my iMac hard drive is failing? I will then decide whether to replace the hard drive - I see I can fit a WD 6TB with the jumpers set to reduce the speed to 3GB/s - or buy a new iMac.
I wonder also whether there is anything I can do to preserve my TM back ups. I realise I am being guided to re-format this external drive, but can I do that and then add back the actual existing back ups (which I would transfer to another disk before re-formatting) rather than start again from no history newly formatted?

    Omdineen wrote:

There are a few remaining options.
If you have another Mac with a FireWire port, try FireWire Target Disk Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
You need a FireWire cable to connect the two Macs. This will allow you to mount your failing HD on a working Mac and copy files that way.
Try Safe Mode - read about it first:
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components.
    Starting up in Safe Mode
This assumes the Finder is crashing due to a third party system extension or optional system component that Safe Mode will prevent from loading. You should still be able to copy files directly to an external device, but file sharing will be disabled.
Lastly boot from the DVD again, repair the disk again, reinstall OS X, and keep your fingers crossed. You're squeezing the last drops of life from the thing.

  • DVD recording on A505-6980

Is it possible to record a DVD on this model to another DVD, or how do we record to hard drive?

No CD/DVD drive can take a lot of bouncing around while operating as it can jar the read/write head out of place, which if it's in the process of burning can render the disk unusable. The same caution would apply to a desktop system as well, but few if those are likely to be moved while in use.

  • Quicktime screen recording freeze up

I recently upade my snow leapard to the new Lion for the quicktime screen record and everytime I want to do a screen record it keeps froze up when I want to record. Then it takes time like when to finish it won't finish i have to turn the computer off and restarted it again. So I don't know what to do. So when i do record my hard drive makes noise when i do record. It did let me record only three but still it stops or I see a blink and it stop recording. So I just need help.
    Thanks

    Hey Musiclover99,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing some performance issues with your MacBook Pro. I’d like to ask you a few questions to see if we can isolate this issue further.
First, it sounds like you are trying to record your screen. Do you have a lot of applications running while attempting to record your screen, or an application that requires a lot of memory? Does the issue persist if you attempt to screen record something else?
You can use the steps in these resources to help isolate the issue:

  • Interactive PDF, Printing all text from within multi line scrolling field

I have an A4 form created in Indesign CS4 and made interactive in acrobat 9 pro on Mac with several fields and have a question.
I have a requirement for a number of the form fields to scroll in order to capture lengthy content if need be, my client also wants the ability to print the content in full from the fields if they so wish. However if the content is lengthy say filling more than the field area shows on screen how would this be printable?
    So :
A form is set up to show 3 lines of text and employs a scrollable field solution to accommodate infinite text entry
The user writes 6 lines of text (only 3 show on screen though due to the forced form field area)
They want to print a record for hard copy or distribution showing all 6 lines
I have just purchased the CS6 version with Acrobat X, but would like to solve this in with my previous version if possible, have only just installed CS6 and due to learning curve need to retain it in Acrobat 9 pro if possible.
    Thanks
    Matt HM

Sure, you could do that fairly easily with just a bit JavaScript. It would have to be done by someone with Acrobat who receives the filled-in form. The text from the fields could be extracted and placed in a text file attachment that you create with JavaScript, and then extract the file attachment.
For the general methods you'd use, see:
    createDataObject: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.450.html
    exportDataObject: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.463.html
Another less flexible approach is to extract to a tab delimited text file: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.460.html
For this, you can specify just the fields you want to include, so you don't have to bother with all of the fields in the form being included.

  • Old videos into imovie

I have DVDxdv to rip anything that is already on a DVD. I have a new Panasonic DVD recorder (no hard drive) and a new Canon ZR800Mini DV camera. In reading both manuals, I figured I could record the VHS onto the mini DV then plug mini DV into MacBook and get it into imovie. I have done that before and able to import from the camera into imovie just fine. I had everything rigged according to the manuals, but the Canon would not pick up anything from the Panasonic (I am using 4pin to 4 pin cable as the Canon manual shows that the A/V terminal is OUT only and said that is the way to do what I am trying to do). So when that didn't work, I thought can't I just connect the firewire cable I use from the Canon to the Mac when I grab video, and plug it into the DVD recorder instead? I tried that, the Mac did not detect the recorder either the way it does when the camera is plugged into it. I then used a DVD-RAM disk supplied by Panasonic (so I can reuse it as I have a lot of old videos to transfer) and copied the VHS to it, it copied fine, but MAC doesn't recognize the disk and I understand for $50 I can download software that will read it. Before I do that, and go thru all these steps, am I missing something? I even took the recorded DVD-RAM and played it on the Panasonic with the 4pin to 4pin to my mini DV camera, thinking it might have been it wouldn't work with analog videos, and the Canon still wasn't getting it. What is the easiest way without losing clarity on the videos to get these into my Macbook Pro and imovie? Thank you.

OK, so then you put the VHS tape into the converter itself? Or does the converter have to be hooked up to the VCR on one end and the computer on the other? So it would have to connect to the OUT terminals on the VCR? That means I have to plug it into the back, a drag as I have to pull everything out to get to that. Does it work with imovie? What controls the transfer? Do you bring in video with imovie? Will it let imovie control the download? So I can pause and select what I want from the tape instead of having to drag the whole tape into imovie? I need to know more how it works before I will consider as it is expensive and I want to make sure it will do what I need and the way I want it to for that amount of money. THank you.

  • Slow motion effect

I was wondering how to get that slow motion effect that is so commonly used i music videos. I have a canon xha1 that shoots 60i and 50i. To achieve this effect do I do it all in FCP, or is a combination of having the fps high and then the sequence at 24. I could do it in FCP, but it doesn't look clean. If any body has anysuggestions, thankyou. peace. E.

Final Cut Pro can do slow motion with or without frame blending. In both instances you are creating duplicates of frames in order to create a slow motion effect. These look okay in video but with the effects you are talking about are done with large production values where the shots are done with slow mags where the film is running at a high rate of speed to get more frames in an action. There are cameras today that allow you to over and under crank footage but mainly they are tapeless formats where you are recording to hard drives, disks or cards.
you might want to investigate After Effects version 7 or later where it does time warping where individual pixels are blended rather than an entire frame like in Final Cut.

  • Import mpeg-1 question

I am THINKING that I am reading that neither imovie 8 nor FCE 4 can directly import an mpeg-1 file (which is what my Sony camera records). If I take it through Mpeg streamclip does it degrade the video? If so is there any way I can get it into these programs without doing damage? Even to just string some of them together?

Your material was already degraded when it was recorded to the extremely compressed mpeg1 format.
It is not likely to be much worse for the conversion to DV/NTSC (or DV/PAL).
You are right to be concerned with the quality of material you bring into the editing program and the best way to ensure highest quality is to use a camera that records a format that needs no conversion. mini-DV tape based cameras are a good place to start. Everything that records on hard drives or DVDs needs to be transcoded to edit in FCE.
    Good luck.

  • JVC Everio .mod files on FCP

I want to purchase a JVC Everio camcorder that records to hard disk. The problem is I've heard people have to convert the .mod files it creates to be able to edit with them.
Their website says they record "High-Quality MPEG-2 Video Recording (up to 720 x 480/60i in ULTRA mode with Dolby Digital Audio (MOD file)"
Seeing as how I can read/write dolby sound and mpeg2 I thought I could just drop them straight into FCP, or maybe rename the extension then drop them in.
Can someone let me know they've been able to do this? Or could someone supply me a small clip with sound I can try for myself before I buy this camera?
    Cheers

MPEG 2 files are not generally directly editable in FCP, so you'll have to convert them to a native format. I seem to recall that MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV will convert the files to DV, but I may be mistaken. Perhaps someone with experience with this camera will pipe up...

  • IDoc file format that corresponds to BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST

I have  developed an ABAP program that reads data from a file exported from a non-SAP system and post G/L documents in SAP with BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST.

    Hi Dewang,
I'm not sure what the reason behind the different exchange rate, but from what I understand, most of our treasury transaction using flat rate. meaning, they agree and sign contract with bank to use certain rate for a range of period. so, during that period, all the posting will use this flat rate instead of SAP TCURR.
I have tried to manipulate the internal table for currency amount for afew scenario but still cannot pass the exact rate and the amount for document and local like what in upload file. my last choice is to use BDC, but for recording wise, hard for me to simulate for all scneario; WHT, additional info, cost center etc.. fyi, I have tried to create simple BDC for txn F-02 and it is working for my case: passing exact exchange rate, doc amt and locl amt.
i still hope for the BAPI to cater for my case, sure got hidden technique or tips to manipulate the exchange rate.

  • Best upgrade for mini to improve live broadcast streaming?

I am using a Mac Mini for live broadcast streaming. I am using Wirecast for the encoding. I am encoding the stream in Flash format and I'm simultaneously recording to hard drive in QT h.264 format. This maxes out my 2 GHz Core 2 Duo mini with 4GB RAM. I am trying to decide how I might improve my setup for optimal performance. For example:
    1) Should I replace the 5400 RPM internal hard drive in the Mini with a 7200 RPM drive and continue to run the broadcasting and recording as before but now with the faster drive? In other words, would I expect meaningful gain by simply upgrading to a faster internal drive?
    Or:
    2) Should I add an external 7200 RPM 800 Firewire HD to the Mini? If I do this what would be the best way to utilize the faster drive--
    a) Booting the mini from the faster external drive and recording to the external drive and essentially "ignore" the internal drive?
    b) Boot from the internal drive and use the external drive for recording the movies?
And would utilizing the single FW 800 port for the HD interfere with capturing video from my FW camcorder? (I'd need to add a FW hub or daisy chain the two devices).
I guess what I am really asking is this-- Will I have better efficiency in performing simultaneous encoding and recording by off-loading part of the work to a second hard drive?
I assume that the encoding of the broadcast stream is determined by the CPU and is independent of the hard drive configuration.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    John

I admit that I'm not familiar with your particular application and setup, but I will say that the fastest connection to the hard drive in the Mini is via the internal SATA. A 7200 RPM 2.5" drive should be faster than a firewire external.
Keep in mind that drives slow down as they get closer to full .. so for best performance try to keep as much free space as possible. A drive that is 50% full will be a lot faster than one that is 80-90% full.
It might be useful to look at Utilities > Activity Monitor and see whether you are having a high pageout-to-pagein ratio, or whether you are strictly CPU or I/O bound.
BTW to take advantage of the fast SATA connection, some folks have run eSata from inside their Minis to allow connection of 3.5" eSata drives, which would be the fastest conventional drive for a Mini.
Others have replaced the DVD drive with a Solid-State Disk Drive, for the absolute fastest (though size limited) setup.

  • Purpose of using LabVIEW

    Hi:
I would like the main purpose of programming the Labview and then make an application. Is the main purpose to reduce the testing time in manufacturing area compared in using the scope or DMM setup with the test fixture without computer. It should be more productive, use lesser time to finish the testing. If so, the Labview program should be more effective with less time. Am I correct?
I need to be sure for this. Could you please explain LabView program can reduce the testing time compared with the one without using computer? I could not see the advantages right now. Could you please tell me some of importants thing in the case I mentioned above to me.
I am in a very urgent. I need your quick reponse. Thanks!
When I see your points, I can program with the mind that you gave the answer. Anyway, Pls give me your answer first and see if I can thinking right?

Have you ever posted a question that wasn't "very urgent"?
Judging by how long you've been working on a pretty simple application, I'm not sure there is any benefit to automation.
Actually, there are several reasons that you might want to automate. Test speed is, of course one. It is generally faster to have a computer set up an instrument, connect to a point, and take a measurement. The more tests that have to be performed and with more complex setups, the bigger the gain. I have one program that currently takes about 45 minutes to perform a complete test sequence. Done manually, it would take 4 or 5 hours. With automation, you also have a big advantage in repeatability. The computer will repeat the same set of steps over and ever again in exactly the same manner. Humans make far more mistakes and what you don't want is some operator connecting an instrument to the wrong point, to the wrong range, or misreading an indicator. You don't want to fail a good board and you especially don't want to pass a bad board. The computer gives you the ability to quickly and accurately log test data. You can (and should) be recording the results of every measurement. At some point, you will probably be asked to prove that the tests being done are per specifications and that a unit has actually been tested before shipment. Paper records are hard to maintain and often inaccurate. Throughput increases with automation. Eliminate all or most operator intervention, and you can have a single individual running several test stations. Plug in a board into tester A and start the program. Walk over to tester B and start the program. Repeat for x number of testers. Now you've got a single individual doing the work of several doing manual testing. Labor costs are a big part of the price of any product. That is why companies in the US where I am, are contracting with vendors in other parts of the world where labor is much cheaper. It's also true that a contract manufacturer that does test automation can provide their service at a lower price than a contract manufacturer that doesn't.
