Recording to mini-disc via Plastic Optical Fibre cable?

Is this possible to do?
The cable I have for my old mini disc player that I have never used has a TOS connector on one end, and a mini-plug on the other. Since there is no socket for the TOS on my MacBook (2008), if I were to buy a TOS to mini plug adaptor, would this allow me to record to mini-disc via the optical cable?

Hmmmm. Just bought a new cable, and connected between by macbook and my mini-disc, only when I play music and press record, it says there is no signal.
I hope this is possible to do or else I've just wasted a load of money.

  • How  to  record  from  mini  disc  player  into  garage  band  if  possible

I have some audio recorded material on a minidisc player/recorder which i would like to put into the computer to work on-can i put it into garage band 2 ? and if not is thier a free or not free software/programme i can download in order to record in quality what i have on the minidisc recorder. Also can you suggest any programmes/software (like cubase)which i could use to work on the sounds i have put onto the apple mac.

Again, mine doesn't have a USB port, so the only way to get sound on the disk is to record it through it's line in (optical or 1/8" trs). My mini disk player is old.
I think the new ones do have a mp3 import function (and a USB port or something similar)...don't know how it works though...I think that it just records them through it's line in though...
A mini disk is like a very small cd-r that is constantly record enabled (unless you switch the tab), like a tape casette. There is an algorythm that allows the minidisk to hold as much info as it does...that's where my confusion comes in about how it imports/exports.

  • How to get sour to play through mini display via vga without sound cables?

I know that many of you guys might tell me that this question is stupid or that it is impossible to do it but i run in to problems that usually the company that made the product can't asnwer it all the time. So here it is. I have the mid 2009 MBP 17 in. 2.8ghz Core 2 duo. I've been using a minidisplay to VGA cable to connect to a sony briva tv since i've had it. and most time i'd have to plug in the 3.5mm jack to get the audio working. but once just once my mac decided to give all the audio control over to the TV without the auxilary cable plugged in. See, i accidentally pressed play and i started to hear sounds. but it wasnt from my mac. and the volume was completely up to the control of the tv. it was weird yet convinent, but as i was checking the connection to see what the **** i did, i took it out of clam mode which swithch my resolution and reconnect the display with the sound having to go through the auxilary again. So if any of you have had this luck and know how to do it please help me out.

  • Sony mini disc to power book g4

I have a sony mini disc that I have downloaded the digital audio to garage band before. I used rca cable from the earphone jack on the mini disc to the Optic out(?) on the power book. I am not able to record to garage band anymore----??? Is this because I accepted a garage band update?
    Any thoughts?
    thanks,

  • Connecting copper to new optic fibre

I am thinking about changing to optic fibre cable.   Anyone any idea how long the change over takes and does it make any real difference to the speed on the computer.    My computer is  7 years old and although I keep it clear of any real problems, it is getting a tad on the slow side.   I have a BT Hub3 and the computer is connected wirelessly.   Anyone with any thoughts.   Cheers
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To be pedantic, it won't actually make any difference to the speed of the computer.  It will be the broadband that's faster.
Standard ADSL can give you anything between about 0.25M and 20M, depending on your line.  FTTC Infinity gives between 15M and 79M.  So, for the vast majority of people, it will be faster.
The speed you get on wireless depends on many factors, including the distance between the computer and the hub,  the number of neighbours with wireles networks, and the building materials of your home.  If your wireless speed is low, then your wireless speed on Infinity might be no better.
Wired ethernet is a lot more reliable.

  • Recording to garageband from mini disc using the i mic

When I am recording in to garageband I get a very loud clicking which I am sure is not good for my speakers. I am turning the metronome off when I create the track that I am recording onto. I have looked at other reasons for this but can find none.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If I were you, I would use another program for recording and then remove the click. Audacity is a free recorder/editor that can probably do the trick. Then you can import it into garageband.
The click can be caused by a difference in "voltage" (the electric potential) on both sides: if the mini disc has a different "zero" level (the average of its output, sometimes called the DC level) than your iMic, you can get a click and the only way to get rid of it is using balanced inputs and outputs (which is probably not an option).
If it is the DC level, you'll need to get rid of that as well before importing the file into Garageband. I think Audacity has a "remove DC" filter.

  • Output Mini-disc recording to PB, how?

How to output music from a Sharp mini-disc recorder (no output, just headphone output) with an Imic into a PB?

    This is how I'd do it;
Connect the headphone output of the mini-disc recorder to an audio mixer (with the appropriate adapters) to control the gain and hopefully match the mini-disc's output impedence using the trim control of the mixer. Output from the mixer to DV/DVCam tape. Then capture the tape in FCP (audio only). The reason behind going to tape first is to have a timecoded source in case of a future need to recapture.

  • Comment enregistrer de la musique via un support mini disc vers itunes

    bonjour
je voudrais enregistrer mes mini disc (support) vers itunes
pouvez m indiquer la demarche a suivre
    merci

Ideally, your music on the phone should be empty and when you enable match it will play off air (If you will)
Try to clean your phone first in few steps
    1. Turn off itunes match on the phone only.
    2. Delete music from the phone completely (hopefully you know how)
    3. Enable itunes match again and you should be OK.
    Sorry for using Google translate.

  • Cannot get 5.1 Surround Sound with optic fiber cable (Mini Toslink)

I have a Macbook Pro (Early 2011 Model) and after spending lot of time I figured out that the best way to get 5.1 surround sound output is to connect the MBP to the AV Receiver with the optic fiber cable (Via Mini Toslink Adapter). So after reading all the articles and forums on it, I went and purchased the cable and adapter and hooked up my MBP to my AVR 142 Harman / Kardon receiver.
But now I’m still not able to not get Digital 5.1 surround sound!! Additionally, in Audio MIDI Setup (under Utilities), I can only select Stereo from the drop down menu, as "5.1 Surround" and every other option, such as 7.1 surround are grayed out.
Is there anything that I have missed out in the setup? or do I have to try some other method to get the surround sound??
    Please Help!!

ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
    Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.

  • Sony mini disc to garage band

I have a sony mini disc and have downloaded the digital audio to my powerbook g4 garage band in the past by cable - sony md headphone to powerbook optical line in.
However --- for some reason (I wonder if it's because I accepted a garage band upgrade), I am unable to record to garage band....??
I fear that it is user error somehow.
    Any help???
    thanks!
    Laura

    Hi Laura
I use a Sony mini disc to record audio and I connect it's line out (my has
both optical and electrical out in the same connector) to the mic in on my
Mac. This work's nicely in iMovie at least.
(One can import the audio in iMovie and then save as QT (expert setting) and
as .aiff sound only to be used in eg. iTunes or Garageband.)
    This might need QT-pro upgrade.

  • Mini disc stuck

I was trying to put some software on my iBook G4 and put a mini disc in the CD slot. It went in but never sounded like it went in and I have tried to remove it by restarting holding down the mouse button and it is still in the slot. Any ideas of what I can do next? Thanks.

Tilt the computer so that the optical drive's opening is downwards; it may then fall out with or without telling the computer to eject the disk. You may also be able to get hold of it by inserting an item such as a business card while holding onto one end of the card.

  • Mini Disc stuck in CD player & printing question

I have a mini disc stuck in the cd player. I've pushed eject multiple times, but I don't think that it reads that it is in there. Is there any other way to get it out?
Also, how do you "print selection" like on PCs?

Mini DVDs _are not compatible_ with slot-loading optical drives like the one in the MPB. Some users have reported success in extracting mini DVDs from the optical drive by inserting a business card with double-stick tape at the end, then pressing the eject key, and carefully pulling the disc out. Else, you may need to visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for repairs. These will not be covered under warranty.
Print selection is application-dependent. Some apps (e.g. Microsoft Word) support that feature (there's an option in the print dialog box), others do not.
You can take a screenshot of part of the screen (Command-Shift-4) and print that.

  • Mini-Disc Plug-i

Hi,I have the X-Fi Card. I heard that you can record music from the computer to my Mini Disc Player using the Mini Disc Plug-in.Where is this mini disc plug in?I opened the MediaSource Organizer but it's nowhere to be found. I downloaded the plug-in from this site but when i try to install it,it says that the program is already installed. Can anybody tell me what to do. Thanks,Frank

    <FONT face=Helv size=2>
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library. (You should have already imported tracks into your PC Music Library. If not, please do so.) Alternati'vely, you can view the My Computer of MediaSource.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your Mini Disc.
    - In the PC Music Library content panel, select the tracks that you want to transfer.
    - Transfer the tracks from MediaSource's PC Music Library (or MediaSource's My Computer) to your Mini Disc by clicking the arrow pointing from left to right.

  • How can i eject a mini disc?

I inserted a mini-disc on my mac and now I can't see it anywhere and it is stuck
    How can I eject it?

    Well, you can try:
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.
But this only works if it's a tray drive. If it's a slot drive all you can do is try to shake it out or take it in for service.

  • Using final cut studio what the best way of getting a mini disc in to FCP?

I do some weddings and record some audio on to a mini disc recorder ( the small ones . On my avid liquid edit suite I just used to run it in live or ingest it on a 2 hour timer, and just record audio.
What the best way to do it with final cut studio and final cut pro?

Is there a reason you can't do the same on your mac system? What outputs does the audio recorder have?
