Recording to vcr

Hope you all can help me out
I have the Motorola qip2500-3 receiver from Verizon fios. I am trying to record to my vcr. Does anybody know how I can achieve this task
thanks for your time
glen

I just returned my 2500 box, but I had it connected to both the TV and a VCR. How you do it depends upon the available inputs to the TV and VCR however. I ran the s-VHS output from the 2500 box to the TV, and used a Y cable for the audio, so the Right and Left Audio was connected via AV cables to both the VCR and the TV. I ran an AV cable from the composite output on the 2500 box to the VCR, and then recorded from the Aux input on the VCR. The other choice is to run coax from the output of the 2500 box into the VCR, and have the VCR tune to channel 3 or 4...
However the picture quality will be better if you use either composite video or s-VHS output from the set top box.

  • Quickplay won't record a VCR input from a USB Pinnacle TV stick.

If I try to record a VCR movie (camcorder type) with Quickplay, it's says, "This content is protected and cannot be recorded". What I've noticed is it seems to only be the analog input from the Pinnacle device. Media Center can record it, but the bottom of the video is distorted. It looks good when played in Quickplay, but won't record. Anyone seen this or have any ideas? Thanks.

  • Recording from vcr

My 17 in G4 powerbook has svideo which allows me to watch movies on my tv. Question is, is this svideo conection in and out? I'd like to use it to record from my VCR to digitize some of my older vhs footage.
    Peter

I've converted VHS movies into a digital format. The easiest way to to that is to get an analog to digital converter box. I have an older version of http://desktop.grassvalley.com/products/ADVC55/index.php which works just fine with my Powerbook. They also make additional models with more features. If you have a video camera that allows an RCA input with a Firewire output, I'd guess that would also work.
The easiest way to do it is to use the iMovie application, then use iDvd to create a DVD. If you get into it, you may find some limitations in iMovie and iDvd, in which case Final Cut Express would be a good step up.

  • Question about recording from VCR to Qosmio

I want to record my old personal Videos from VCR tapes to DVD using my Qosmio F10. I plug the VCR analogue output via a coax cable into the Qosmio TV aerial input and set up the Qosmio to recognize the VCR input as just another TV channel. It records onto the hard drive using MCE but the quality is poor compared to the original video tape. The colors and sound are ok but the pictures are lacking in detail and clarity.
Is there a setting on the Qosmio that I can use to improve the quality or is it the type of input I am using. My old VCR only has a coax and scart output and I can't get the scart output to input to the Qosmio.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi Nicky,
Thanks for the response. By Composite do you mean RGB output from the VCR?
    The Qosmio has 3 inputs:-
    1. conventional TV coax
    2. S Video
    3. iLink - firewire
There is no straight RGB input tho'
Can I use the iLink with a scart output from a VCR? The iLink works fine with my Camcorder.

  • Recording to VCR using Digital Adapter

I've been kicking around getting the digital adapter instead of the STB for 2 of our TVs (they're in an office and guest room).  I understand we wouldn't have the interactive guide, PPV, etc.
BUT- what I don't know is can you schedule the VCR to record with the digital adapter without first changing the channel on the digital adapter?
For instance, can I schedule the VCR to record channel 15 at 8pm and channel 72 at 10pm without user-intervention between the 2 recordings?  How does the digital adapter get it's channel changed first to 15 and then later to 72?
    Thanks.
    Solved!

    The short answer is no...
The digital adaptor, if you dont get too technical, is still just another cable box.  IT decodes and then sends the signal to the VCR so as far as the VCR is concerned it cannot tell the difference between the STB and Digital adaptor. So you have to set your VCR to record channel 3 and then set the adaptor to the channel you want recorded.
Now I'm sure there is a way if your bound and determined by getting things like IR blasters and remote channel changers and whatnot but your looking at more equipment and probably getting further into it than it would be worth.

  • Record to VCR while watching another channel

Will the STB output 2 channels simultaneously, so I can record a program on my old low-def VCR while watching another channel?

None of the Verzion boxes can output more than what is being viewed.  Even the DVR which has 2 tuners is incapable of outputing 2 different channels / programs.
    Does that make it clear?

  • HELP ME PLEASE!! Recording to VCR

I need help. WHile I know that VCRs ar just about obsolete, I have a project that I completed on my computer and then downloaded to my IPOD. The project has to be handed in on a VHS cassette, UGH! I got the video to play on my TV, but I can not get it recorded to my VCR, is there someone out there smart enought to explain this to me. I would truly appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you

I have not tried this, but perhaps connecting the RCA jacks (red, yellow & white) from your iPod to your VCR's input jack ports will do the trick. Since you can play the output on a non-digital TV, it seems possible that this might work.
    Good luck!

  • Unable to record programs on my VCR

My VCR(s) are connected according to the diagrams shown on the troubleshooting page of the Verizon website, but I am not able to record anything.  I only have the VCR, not DVR.   I get a blue screen on the one TV and just static (and sound) on the other TV.

How do you have your VCR Connected to the Verizon FIOS Set Top Box ?
Normally you would connect it as follows:
STB---S Video and Composite Audio (Red and white)--->VCR
    -or-
STB---Composite Audio and Video (Yellow, Red, White)--->VCR
    -or-
    STB---Coax Cable (RG6)--->VCR
To record the VCR would need to be set to record from the alternate input if using S-Video or Composite Cables and Channel 3 or 4 if using a Coax Cable.  The Verizon STB would need to be on and tuned to the program that you want to record.

  • DVR620KU vcr to dvd recording

After following the directions to record from vcr tape to dvd I get a red circle with a slash across it.  I've tried a different dvd disc (+R8x and -R16x).  I don't know why it can't record.

This is not the case based on my own verification.
You can absolutely record with "blank input", that is, if L1 or L2 have nothing connected to them, you can record from L1 or L2 onto a DVD. You will not get a circle with a line through it, and you will record blank video.
You can also do a VHS->DVD dub from a VHS tape that has been recorded from blank input.
I've not tested a blank tape (i.e. one with no recording on it) although why would anyone would have a reason to initiate a VHS->DVD dub on a blank tape anyway?
If, however, you have set INPUT SELECT to L3, and then try to do VCR->DVD dubbing, you *will* get a red circle with a line through it on the screen, and no recording takes place.
Others have reported on the forum that certain brands or types of DVDs may cause the red circle with a line through it. I've not seen this myself.
If you try to do a VHS->DVD dub of a commercial tape, you will get an E25 message on the screen and no recording takes place. You won't get a circle with a line through it.
If you are in VCR mode with a tape inserted, and it has its record tab removed, and you press REC, then the tape ejects. (Which is fine, since you can't record on it anyway). There is no red circle that appears.

  • Recording to DVD from DVR

I used to have Bright House, when a progeam was finished being watched on the DVR an option was to "Record to VCR." (We used the DVD recorder). There is no option like this with FIOS. I called Verizon support (HAHA) and the agent told me - get this - that I had to call the manufacturer of the DVD recorder. I mentioned how lame an answer that was and he laughed. Would have been better off with the stock answer of "It's not available in your area."
Anybody have any fixes for this or know when it wil be available, if ever?

You can always transfer (via component, s-video, composite, or RF) to an external device like a VCR or DVD recorder.  The only caveat is that you won't be able to watch anything other than what you are transferring.  Don't know if Brighthous allowed transfer while watcing something else, but for now, that is the only way to accomplish what you are asking.

  • Recording sound from DV output

I just got OnLocation yesterday and my job got moved up to tomorrow so I haven't learned it yet so I want a tape backup.
Just testing with my Sony Handycam.  Seems to work OK direct into my laptop (audio and video), but since I want a backup, I want to record to tape at the same time.  I can record to OnLocation and the tape at the same time but when I try to play the recorded tape (VCR mode) into OnLocation I get video but no audio.  The audio meter acts normally when recording but no activity durning playback.  Should I be able to transfer my tape to OL this way or do I need to use Premiere?

When OL recieves a streaming input, it mutes the output of your speakers by default so you don't get an echoing effect. If you record your camera's VTR playback and then play the stream back, it should play the audio, too.

  • Pass-through recording with Canon ZR25

I have an older Canon ZR25.  Is it capable of pass-through recording from a VCR?  I can plug the VCR to the camera, and the camera to the computer via the firewire, but can't get anything to work.  Is my only option to actually record the VCR tape on the mini DV tape in the camcorder first, then transfer that to the computer?

  • Copy Recorded Programs

Does anyone know if there is a way to copy a DVR recorded program to an external device (USB etc..) ?  I can't get a clear answer from Verizon.
This is something that would be nice to do on occasion, like recording to VCR tape.  Some times there is something I would like to keep and not take up space on the set top box.
    Just wondering.

It's not possible to download or copy recorded files from FiOS without a TivoHD (screenshot).  That's a TiVo exclusive feature.
With the FiOS Motorola DVR, the most you can do is copy content recorded from local channels, in realtime as it is played, using Firewire.   Verizon not provide any technical support for this (you've got to figure it out yourself), and it only works under 32-bit Windows XP and Vista (as far as I know) once you've installed the right software and drivers on your computer.  More information in this thread.

  • DVR Dubbing Mode - Dubbing VCR-to-DVD / DVD-to-VCR / Camcorder-to-DVD/VCR

Have a new DVD620KU....Attempting to record family vcr tape on to a dvd rw disc .After following steps as instructed when I get to step 8 says to press dubbing button a red circle with cross in it appears, will not let me continue dubbing and no picture..please advise

Be sure you've pressed INPUT SELECT so that either L1 or L2 is displayed. If L3, you will not be able to record. (this is noted in the grey box on p. 51 of the manual).
You didn't indicate whether your DVD was DVD-RW or DVD+RW. If DVD-RW, you will need to format the disc first. See p. 28 of the manual.
I would recommend using DVD-R or DVD+R discs anyway. They are cheaper and are less likely to be an issue on other machines or computers once you finalize them.
It is best to be connected to your TV via the video/audio connections on the back on the DVR620 (the rightmost set of connections).
