Recording tv broadcasts to computer

i want to record tv broadcasts on my box
how ?
i want it to be suitable for good quality recording of anime series. something like mpeg 4 at 768X576 and good bitrate (about 1 GB / hour). and good audio like 192 mp3
the tv is analog composite video (of high quality - right out of the digital cable box) + stereo audio
video : conexant bt878 (works perfectly with kdetv)
audio : realtek ac97 line in
i want it to be schedule-able so i dont have to start stop it manually. console app i can wrap in a script and add to cron is best. gui app that can schedule stuff and generate automatically filenames is good too

i tried this
mencoder tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:norm=PAL:input=1:amode=0:width=768:height=576:adevice=/dev/dsp:audiorate=32000 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=224 -srate 44100 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg1video -ofps 25 -of mpeg -endpos 1800 -o temp.mpeg
there is no audio (just silence) with both /dev/dsp and /dev/audio. happens under both kde 3.5 and 4.1. i played with the mixer in the desktop and it does not change anything
i did not figure out how to encode to anything other than mpeg 1. i really dont like its low quality
mythtv is huge overkill

Hi-I have an old Adobe Audition 1.5 and I used to be able to hear as I was recording. After updating computer and reloading Adobe Audition 1.5, can no longer hear as recording but only on playback. Please advise.

All the monitoring is done through your sound device, not Audition. When you updated your PC, the sound device playback settings would have been reset. One of them includes input socket monitoring, and it's this that you need to reinstate. Since we don't know what sound device you are using, that's as much as we can tell you, except that if it's an internal device, you'll need to open the volume control options and alter it there. This varies between OS versions though...

  • Recording live broadcast

My company uses broadcasts which include both streams (coming
from different users and sometimes displayed together), animations
amd images mixed together on the flash player.
You can think of it as kind of flash presentation mixed with
    web meeting.
We would like to record the broadcast into a single video
file (flv, quicktime, etc.) and streaming this file on demand from
    our FMS.
I am looking for a way to record what the broadcastig viewer
sees when he looks at the boradcast.

You can't do any sort of screen capture or anything like
that. What you CAN do is use netstream.send to trigger events in
    the client.
Let's say, for example, you have a function in your
actionscript named playAnimation(), and a stream named someStream.
To trigger that function, your code might look something like this:
    Client side:
    function playAnimation(){
    // do something here
    my_netconnection.triggerAnimation = function(){
    playAnimation();
    On the server side:
    application.tellClientToRunAnimation = function(){
    someStream.send('triggerAnimation");
Now, when the server side function is called, a message goes
out across the stream, and tells the client to run the function.
Now, here's where it gets really cool. IF you're recording
the stream, the netstream.send call gets saved in the flv file. So,
when you play it back, the triggerAnimation call gets fired off
again on playback, at the same point in time at which you sent it
    duing the live broadcast.
Of course, using this method only works if you play back the
flv in an swf that's set up with the proper functions. If the .swf
deson't have the functions you're calling with the netstream.send
    event, nothing will happen.
    Hope it helps.

  • Ways to record radio broadcasts using Audio Hijack Pro

If I download Audio Hijack Pro what is the simplest and most efficient way to download radio broadcasts ?
I have experimented using Garageband and my radio tuner with an audio cable connected to the 'audio-in' port without success.

I'm late to this discussion because I've had no problems recording my weekly 2-hour jazz show by inputting my Onkyo tune to my 2013 iMac vs. USB (Apple removed the audio-in jack--darn it).  I recorded them in Sound Studio (which unlike Toast has easily editable audio waves--and for digitizing LPs, I found I could be more accurate and achieve faster results that with Spin Doctor, which is bundled with Toast). I had no trouble.  That is, until now.  My recordings are suddenly all static.  I can hear my voice in the background but the recording is unusable for all practical purposes.
I can only infer that the problem may stem from my Onkyo receiver transmitting a regular FM signal (it's not an HD receiver).  The station that I broadcast from is HD (like many other public radio stations), so the main channel (#1) along with #2 and #3 are transmitting a high def signal, which will not have static (it's all or nothing, the signal is clear or it's non-existent).
Therefore, it appears I need a program like AHP to record the program direct from our station's internet site.  (I'm not clear if internet radio and HD radio are the same thing.  HD radio, of course, proved a bust, but internet audio seems no longer to provoke the little bit of complaint.  (10 years ago it was like 2 dixiecups communicating with a string.  A joke when compared to the best vinyl.  But now the AIFF and Apple Lossless files appear to meet the approval of audiophiles.)
I'm wondering if AHP is still the program of choice for recording sounds from my internet radio station (My Roxio Toast claims to have the capability, but it's proven highly buggy and undependable.)  Or would I be better advised to look for an external HD radio/tuner with audio out to go to my computer.  (Possibly a tall order these days with no one making HD radios.)

  • What is the best software to record DAT tape to computer?

    Hi guys,
I have some old DAT recording of my rock band from 1971-74. I want to transfer the DAT to my Macbook Pro retina. My plan would be to hit the "play" button on the DAT and record the whole tape to the MacBook Pro...and then go back, separate the songs I want to keep and add some EQ and compression (if I can figure out how that works ). I have the setup ready to go from a Behringer UCA222 from the DAT into USB on the MacBook Pro. I also plan to send the recording to my external thunderbolt HD. And I probably want to save the recordings at a higher quality and then to mp3.
What would you suggest would be the best software to use to transfer on a project like this?
I don't have Logic, and don't want to spend the $ for this project. I am looking at using GarageBand, but don't know if that eats up too much HD space and computer processing. I've read that Audacity might be an option, but not sure how the quality would compare to GarageBand.
Any other suggestions or comments would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I use to face this issue every now and then (as a freelancer) when I use to cut on FCP7.
if the material is DV and was captured using Sony VEGAS, Premiere or Edius, the footage generally worked fine. You'll find most people will tell you to convert it regardless, however I found no issues working with them.
A problem you'll definitely face is HDV material. Most PC editing software write HDV in their own codec, which can't be read in FCP.
The only thing I can think of is to try converting HDV meaterial to QuickTime using something like MPEG Streamclip, or something similar.
    Good luck

  • Recording music from the computer to play on ITunes

What's the best application to simply record what I'm hearing on the computer, with good quality?
And be able to save it and play it back on ITunes.....

You asked for the best, not the cheapest, so I'm going to recommend Ambrosia Softwares WireTap Studio.
It's US$69, but well worth it. Check it out: [LINK|http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap>
Lets you record all system audio or only specific programs (those mail tings, ect won't interfere).
    Lossless audio editing
Simple exporting to a variety of applications
But remember that this place is not for these types of qustions... go to other mac forums.

  • Recording LPs into my computer

How do you input audio from a turntable to record onto the computer? I have an HP G71-34OUS Notebook.

Here is a link to an article in PC Magazine with a reasonable explanation of digitizing music from LP records. You can find schematics of interface amplifiers that will do that in electronics magazines online. You can either make them yourself if you have a bit of tech talent or buy them premanufactured.

  • Transfer audio recording from quickvoice to computer

I need to transfer some conference recordings done in Quickvoice on my iPhone4 to my computer & do not see the info for assistance.

I had a similar problem with an external microphone that didn't need power supply. I checked the source on the sound of the system preferences, and whenever I had the microphone attached, no sound was being input, only sound picked up when I had the internal microphone selected.
This summer for a class project, I thought it was picking up sound while I was recording a movie, using iSight, and when i finished, all i had was the video with no audio. Then I had to re-do the class project.
Did your problem ever get resolved? If so, what did you end up doing to resolve it?

  • Recording with guitar to computer through USB X-Fi

I am having a problem trying to record with my guitar through my USB X-Fi 5.. I am using a program called Audacity to capture the recording. I have my guitar hooked up to a Line 6 POD 2.0 effects device that has a left/right output. Then I plugged the /8th male end running from that into the Line-In port on the USB X-Fi 5. and then to my computer via USB. But I cannot hear my guitar when playing and it will not capture the recording. I basically bought the USB X-Fi 5. because when recording with my guitar I thought that my laptops sound card was making the recording of low quality. So I got the USB X-Fi 5. to help that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Message Edited by BulletFMV on 2-06-2008 03:42 PMMessage Edited by BulletFMV on 2-06-2008 03:43 PM

That USB audio interface isn't any better for recording from onboard sound. You should have bought least the Creative E-MU 0202 USB (if you prefer Creative products/USB audio interfaces).
With your current setup, instead of using Audacity, you could try, say, Cockos Reaper + Asio4All driver.

In any case, remember also read the software documentation as well ... all needed information for recording task is normally guided there in user manual(s).

  • Recording LP's to computer (M

Has anyone had experience with converting vinyl (LP's) to computer (MP3) files with the SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum card? I really want to save my precious vinyl to cd/mp3 and am not that savvy. Is this the card to buy for this operation and does software allow for album/track identification? Any help you have on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes (~000 LPs), but not w/ X-Fi.
If you plan to connect your HiFi system (or phono pre-amp w/ RIAA stage) directly into sound card it's 'bout the same which sound card are you using --> card just needs to have a qood quality Line-Input (and qood quality A/D converter), so you can take the signal and record it.
X-Fi do have better quality w/ 6-bit/44. kHz when compared to Audigy/Li've! series cards, but there are also low priced (more pro quality) cards like E-MU 0404 (now 0202/0404 USB too), ESI Juli@, M-Audio AP92, etc., which gives even better results @ that 'resolution'.
If you don't want to connect the Hi-Fi system but the turntable only, you can get an external phono pre-amp (there are many qood quality phono pre-amps even around 35US$) or an audio interface w/ RIAA stage build-in (Presonus Inspire 394 (firewire), ART Phono Pre (USB), etc.).
If you plan to transfer : quality (wave) to CDs then the recording resolution needed is 6-bit/44. kHz (it's waste to record using better quality because of, you need then resample/dither to CD quality --> affects on oversll quality).
For MP3s, you can also use 48 kHz, which mode may give better frequency response vs 44. kHz (least w/ most SB cards). 48 kHz is maybe not supported w/ all mp3 capable devices but if you use your PC as a playback device the it's all the same, which resolution your files are.
I did rip (record) my LPs using 24-bit/96 kHz mode and then converted to WMA (Pro) 24-bit/96kHz/440kbps (CBR) format. I didn't burn (backup) anything as WAVE to CDs but only as WMA files. Now and then when I need to have mp3 files (car, mp3 player, etc.), I just conver albums needed from those wma files.
I suggest you not to use automated track splitting software because of, it won't work always as you would like. Cut the recordings (one side of the LP at once) manually using some audio editing software.
Also, there are software that allows you to get the album/track information directly forom a database found somewhere on the internet, but I can't name any now (I don't use those type software) and I don't know if those works w/ LP recordings (works least w/ CDs as I have tried once).
Some general advices on transfering matter - http://www.delback.co.uk/lp-cdr.htm

  • Recording from guitar to computer

i'm new to logic, i just wanted to know what is the best way to connect your guitar to computer. What USB or any other device could you use to record with good quality. thanks.

You should look for a decent audio interface (firewire or usb). There are several brands available. Depends on your budget of course. I've got the Presonus Firepod and used it daily. It features clean preamps and is good value for money.

    You need this:   http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html#custom
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • Record Streaming Video from Computer

I need to "capture" streaming video that plays on a computer.
I can't seperate out the file, just need to record as it plays. If
Captivate can't do it, does anyone know of another program that
    can?
    Thanks much!

I have had this problem with TechSmith's software as well.
Try turning off video hardware acceleration.
Also, make sure you don't move anything once you've begun.
Oddly, even screen recordings made with TechSmith's Morae recording .NET 3 applicaitons can lose the content and present a black screen.
    Here's the drill:
        Record a software interaction.
Edit and export video. (If you move the editing window, the recorded image seems to stay where it was, but becomes invisible. Sort of like sliding a cropping guide off a picture and onto a table.)
Launch video player and play recording
        Move video player.
Recording disappears until you put player back where it was.
I've had similar problems with Camtasia and SnagIt.
