Recording TV shows

I have DirecTivo HD and would like to find a good way to record shows onto DVD. Can I do that with my Imac even though its located in the den?
I do have a powermac, but with only 40 gb hard drive (and most of that's used). Thanks.

Whatever you do, your first question is, what outputs does the Tivo have?
You don't say where your den is relative to your Tivo. But if you can run a firewire cable from your Tivo to your Mac, you can use iMovie to import and edit the video, and iDVD to burn DVDs.
If the Tivo doesn't have a firewire output, you'll need a video converter. They start at about $100. Data Video and Canopus have them, among others. Amazon carries some, and eBay is always a possibility. Most will accept either component video or S-Video input, and firewire output.
There are other, extra-cost products besides iMovie and iDVD. I don't think there's anything that will accept video onto a Mac via USB -- they all want firewire.
You might also investigate stand-alone DVD burners, similar to VCRs. Might be less hassle, but of course less flexibility (harder to skip commercials, etc., which is a snap in iMovie). Ditto Amazon and eBay as sources.

When i try to load the data to this cube, my trasfer record is showing values while Added Record is showing zero values. Whats the problem. Please advise !!

    Hi,
Check whether do you have defined the industry sector in R/3. This has to be done before filling the setup table. search the forums with note no 353042.
This is done with the help of Transaction MCB_ which you can find in the OLTP IMG for BW (Transaction SBIW) in your attached R/3 source system.
Here you can choose your industry sector. 'Standard' and 'Consumer products' are for R/3 standard customers, whereas 'Retail' is intended for customers with R/3 Retail only.
You can display the characteristics of the process key (R/3 field BWVORG, BW field 0PROCESSKEY) by using Transaction MCB0.
If you have already set up historical data (for example for testing purposes) by using the setup transactions (Statistical Setup Programs) (for example: Purchasing: Tx OLI3BW, material movements: OLI1BW) into the provided setup tables (for example: MC02M_0SCLSETUP, MC03BF0SETUP), you unfortunately have to delete this data (Tx LBWG). After you have chosen the industry sector by using  MCB_, perform the setup again, so that the system fills a valid transaction key for each data record generated. Then load this data into your connected BW by using 'Full update' or 'Initialization of the delta process'. Check, whether the system updates data into the involved InfoCubes now.
If all this is not successful, please see Note 315880, and set the application indicator 'BW' to active using Transaction 'BF11'.

  • Credit master records are showing the wrong credit exposure?

    Hi,
Some credit master records are showing the wrong credit exposure and therefore orders are being credit blocked when they should have been approved.
The problems occur after the credit limit has changed in the credit master record
    Please Help.
    Regards,
    Chamandeep

    Dear Chamandeep,
Trust you have reviewed the open documents that would constitute to credit exposure, and have turned a blank.
In such cases, it is possible to reorganise the credit master data of customers by using the programmes RVKRED77 and RVKRED07.
Kindly prefer the latter as it permits greater flexibility especially in selection of dates of data reorganisation.
In either case, the data  re-organisation is resource intensive and is best run when all other users are cleared from the system.

  • Records Not Showing Up On Report

    I'm using Crystal XI
I can take the query from "Show SQL Query..." and paste it into a query screen in SQL Server 2008 management studio and retrieve the correct records.  However, the report itself does not contain all the records the should have been returned.
To the best that I can figure, the records where a transaction date (date/time field) is null is not showing up on the report.  I only display the field, do not do any calculations based on the field.
It is part of the record selection formula, where I test for the field to be between start/end parameters or is null (which produces the correct SQL query as I stated above)
So why are the records not showing up on the report, and more importantly, how do I get them to show up?
    TIA

It already was set to "Exception for Nulls"
On the other hand, just on a whim, I tried reversing the order of the query from what it was:
    {MyQuery.Company = {?Company}
        And
        {MyQuery.Transaction_Date} In {?Start/End Date}
        Or
        IsNull({MyQuery.Transaction_Date})
    To:
    {MyQuery.Company = {?Company}
        And
        IsNull({MyQuery.Transaction_Date})
        Or
        {MyQuery.Transaction_Date} In {?Start/End Date}
And that seemed to work.  I'm not sure why it will work in the Mangement Studio, but not in Crystal Reports, but at least it works.
Thanks for the tug in the right direction.

  • Why isn't there an option to record future shows using the HD box linked to a Multi room DVR setup?

I have a multi room DVR in my livingroom and HD boxes in my 2 bedrooms. Currently if you are viewing a program on one of the HD boxes you are able to record the live program you are viewing as the HD box will enable your DVR to record that show.
Why hasn't FIOS enabled the settop boxes that are part of a multi room DVR setup to be able to record future shows? Needless to say, if I am lying in bed at night and see something in the program guide airing at a future date I really don't want to get out of bed and walk to the living room, turn on the TV and DVR and then program that new recording.
If I have missed something and you can do this please let me know. Otherwise FIOS should add this to their customer's wish list and enable recording for future times on the HD boxes that are part of your multi room DVR system!

You can already do that.  Highlight the show in the guide and press the record button.  You should get a pop up with the option to Set Reminder or Record on your DVR.   If it doesn't check your DVR to ensure that availability is extended to the STB you are using.

  • Where is our DVR that can record 4+ shows at a time?

Comcast customers can record 4 shows at once while watching another on X1 with a single box.
Cox customers can record 6 shows at once on Contour with a single box.
TiVo customers can record 4 or 6 shows at once on Roamio with a single box.
But us FiOS customers can only record 2 shows at once, while watching something we've pre-recorded, with a single box.
Are there any plans to actually be competitive with these other providers in regards to recording ability?
TV - FiOS TV Extreme HD
    Internet - FiOS Residential 25 Mbps/25 Mbps

Its in alpha testing now expected to be finally released "soon".

  • Recording tv shows from dvr to my pc

I have a brighthouse DVR and want to record some of the show's from it,I have a HP 9500y pc equiped with burnning/labaling abilty but no idea how to hook them together,or if it's even possible. any info would be great thanks

Couple of things to keep in mind here.
    1) Your PC does not have a BlueRay drive.   DVD native resolution is NTSC, ie: low def, not high def.  While
software exists to convert you lose resolution and the show is going to look terrible.
    2) Your brighthouse DVR I suspect is the one supplied by your cable TV provider, brighthouse?
If that is the case then almost certainly it is not going to have any way for the typical consumer to
make archival copies of TV shows because they want you to fill up your DVR so you have to delete
your old TV shows and get more from them (and continue to pay them, of course)
If you really want to record TV shows off brighthouse cable then this is what your going to have to do:
    1) Scrap your DVR
    2) Buy a PC that has Windows 7 on it.
    3) Buy a TV tuner card (There's an inexpensive USB one for about $50 that works great)
    4) If you subscribe to premium cable (ie: encrypted TV) then you will have to buy a
TV tuner card for the PC that has the slot in it for the cable-company supplied decryption
card.  Once you get it working with unencrypted cable you call the cable company to
come out and plug in the decryption card.
    5) Download a number of free conversion and video editing programs.  Project X is one of
the best free ones out there.
    6) Record your TV show then convert it from the .ts file to a AVI file using a codec of your
choice.  Popular ones are MPEG4, DiVX, etc.    This will not only shrink it down but it
will put it in a format that allows you to edit it to crop out the commercials.
    7) Buy more hard drives.  You will quickly find it much cheaper to create a library of
external USB hard drives (1-2 terabyte jobs) then to try to burn shows to optical media.
Have you priced blank bluray media lately?  Not to mention the burners.
You need Win 7 because earlier versions of windows do not allow TV tuners to decode the
Cable TV standard off the cable line (at least, not for the cheap tuner cards, the expensive
ones contain software that will do it)
Keep in mind I do not have brighthouse, I looked at their website but I decided not to
waste a lot of time on it since it's not clear what exactly kind of content provider they are.
If they are not a cable provider but instead your getting stuff over the Internet from them
to your DVR, then a TV tuner card isn't going to do much good of course.  If that is the
case then short of taking apart the DVR and taking the hard disk out and sticking it
in a PC to get the raw files off the DVR, your pretty much screwed.

  • I have an older WD Passport mini hard drive plugged into4 year old macbook pro. Needs additional application to download recorded tv show, which app might i need?

I have an older WD Passport mini drive plugged into my Macbook Pro. Once connected I can't watch recorded TV show. What additional software do I need to download to my Pro to view?

Depends on what codec the video files are. You SHOULD be able to use quicktime. But I have found Quicktime to not be able to play all codecs.

  • Recording TV Shows directly from cable...

With Windows Media Center, I was able to hook my cable up directly to my computer and record tv shows for later viewing. Am I able to do the same with Apple TV? Or does it only allow me to purchase tv shows?

Depends on what you mean by "used in conjunction with".
    http://www.equinux.com/us/products/tubestick/appletv.html
The ATV should play any mpeg4 content iTunes can load. it appears that the TubeStick can record a Mac and export in an ATV friendly format for later syncing.
I don't think it is possible to record directly to the ATV.

  • Recording TV Shows w/ MBP 17"

Hey, I was wondering what do I need to get started recording TV shows with my MacBook Pro? Is there a better product than just the standard ones out there? I have heard a little about EyeTV 2?? What has been anyones experience with any of this. Do I just need the software or do I also need a capture device? Firewire or USB? You get the picture? If someone could give me a good idea of the "total package" with rough cost estimates that would be great!! Thanks.

Yep I vote for Eye TV too, here in Europe I have an Eye TV USB DDT digital recorder. Very small box, needs a good arial but it records well, quality of recording is good and I can export to several formats...nice with my new MBP! Go for it!

  • Recording tv shows purchased on iTunes to DVD

How do I record tv shows purchased on iTunes to DVD?

You can, but only to a data DVD for backup and transport; the content on such DVDs can't be played outside of iTunes. Creating a data DVD is done by treating the video files as if they were any other file.

  • How do I record tv shows off my HDTV to my macbook?

Is there a particular app that I can use to record tv shows off my HDTV? I don't think I can use iMovie because the highest OS X my macbook supports is lion (7, not mountain lion 8). My Macbook is from early 2008 and the model number is a1181.

Unless you have a very unusual TV it is not sending out anything that your MacBook can take in. What you want is to get the TV signal at its source, such as your cable TV box and send that to your MacBook. You would need something like ElGato's EyeTV HD for this.
    Best of luck.

  • Recording a show after it starts.. you only get a recording from that spot...not the beginning

(as it says on page 19 of User Guide)
I fear I have made a major mistake switching from Direct TV... this feature worked flawlessly on their DVR (to which I had a 1TB external drive attached) .     I may eat the $400 termination fee and go back..  I think a week on FIOS is about all I can stan.

Your 100% correct, Direct TV can only record the entire live program if you were already tuned to it, not if you just change to it. I never said that Direct TV could do that and Direct TV never says or implies that either.  Verizon on the other hand explains it this way...verbatim from page 19 of the Verizon FiOS user guide:
"HERES HOW TO RECORD LIVE TV
To record a show that's currently playing:
o Press the REC button on the remote
Got to the show late? No Problem: If you start recording after the show has started, the DVR will actually record the show from the beginning. So you'll have it all.
To schedule recording of an upcoming program........"
The limitation with Direct TV is obviously because it automatically is buffering channel feed, usually as long as the last couple of hours.... you can even go back and record the previous show if its in that window.  By a sat feed.
Verizon has a fat fiber-optic cable pipe plugged into my house carrying internet, phone and tv with room to spare. Sadly,  I am not the genius you obviously are, Mr. Faraday,  so I'm not certain that Verizon doesn't do something like buffer this stuff on their end and then push it down the pipe to me if I want to see it from the beginning.   Would be an easy qualification in the manual don't ya think? You know ".....Got to the show late? No Problem, as long as you are have been tuned that channel....... "
Oh wait... this is the same company who matter-of-factly told me caller id would work on my tv, all I had to do was enable it.    Kewl.. I enabled it.   Nuthin.  Called support. Told me it takes 24-48 hours to kick-in.  No prob.  I can wait. Couple days later.. still nothing, called support back.  This time got someone who knew something and they informed me that you need Verizon's Call Assistant and Visual Mailbox for on-screen caller id to work.  Evidently only Verizon, well at least some in Verizon, know  this little tidbit.  (as I'm certain you do as well, von Goethe) Dummy Me, I didn't know that.  Gosh.. maybe a couple lines in a manual or on screen....you know for us nitwits.... would that kill them?
So you are correct, Mr. Wittgenstein, I am a **bleep**. I'm a Verizon customer aren't I?

A the moment, the iPhone is playing music with the SIM card, but without anything plugged into it, but it's occasionally fading in and out.
Oh, and I doubt this is related, but about two months ago the iPhone failed to show that the battery was draining - it was stuck at 100%. This went on for a few days, it wouldn't even warn me at the 20% mark, it would just shut off. This happened for at least three full charges - I remember at one point it suddenly started working again at about the 70% mark, I'm not sure if it was alright after that or if it went glitchy on the next charge... but in any case, the problem mysteriously never reappeared after those few days.

  • MPEG-2 : Jerky playback of recorded TV shows using QuickTime

    Hi
I am trying to use QuickTime to playback recorded TV shows on a new Intel Core Duo Mac Mini.
The MPEG files themselves have been captured using a Hauppauge WinTV card on a Windows machine - and on this machine (and every other Windows machine), the files play fine.
I have purchased the MPEG-2 QuickTime component for Mac OS X, but I have noticed that when I try to play the files on a Mac, playback seems to drop a frame or two every few seconds, resulting in jerky motion which becomes difficult to watch after a while!
I have tried playback on several macs - an iBook, iMac G5 and the Intel Mac Mini, at different resolutions, and all appear to suffer with the same problem. I am running QuickTime 7.0.4 - all Macs have sufficient RAM available, and using Activity Monitor it does not seem that the machines are overly loaded whilst playing.
Is there a to configure the MPEG-2 component to get around this problem? Or is there a limitation with the types of MPEG-2 file that the QuickTime component will play? Ideally, I do not want to have to transcode my TV recordings, just to get them to play properly on a Mac.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    John

Hi there - thanks for your reply.
It appears I may have mis-reported some information during my earlier post(sorry!). It appears that on the Intel Mac Mini, the clips will play fine in full-screen through QuickTime, but suffer quite badly when played back through FrontRow - as I mentioned earlier, the file jerks every second or so. (QT Playback on the other machines seems to vary in quality - but I am not as concerned about this at the moment - I just want to be able to view these videos in FrontRow!).
I ran the clip through the Fix Timestamps option in MPEG streamclip, but it found nothing to repair. When I show file info in MPEG streamclip, it reports:
    Type: MPEG program stream
    Duration: 1:04:28
    Data Size: 2.11 GB
    Bit Rate: 4.67 Mbps
    Video Tracks
    224 MPEG-2, 720 × 576, 16:9, 25 fps, 4.35 Mbps, upper field first
    Audio Tracks:
    192 MP2 stereo, 48 kHz, 256 kbps
    Stream Files:
    TestTVRecording.MPG (2.11 GB)
So it seems that the problem, at least on the Intel Mini, is limited to FrontRow.
Surely, though, Front Row is just using the same QuickTime playback mechanism as QuickTime Player itself?! What other processing could FrontRow be doing during playback that would have such an imact?
I am looking to use the Mac Mini as a HTPC - I have it hooked up to my TV and am hoping to use it to play recorded TV shows from my Windows box. I've only had the box a couple of days, and am quite surprised that a dual core intel machine is struggling so badly with a simple mpeg2 file that my old 1ghz windows laptop will quite happily play!!
I appreciate that FrontRow is in it's infancy, but even so, I wasn't expecting my new machine to be struggling like this!
    Any further suggestions greatly appreciated.
    John
