Recording Using Captivate

I do not have a "recording" voice.  What options are there for an instructional designer who enjoys designing web-based training, but doesn't have the voice to complete the project?

Hello,
Did you try the Text To Speech? I do not like robotic voices, but perhaps it could be sufficient.

  • Using Captivate to record Captivate?

Is this possible? My organisation have employed me to create
training videos about SharePoint and we use Captivate.
Now, we have bought another 30 copies of Captivate to teach
the teachers how to create training videos! It's my job to go round
instructing these people, but an ideal solution would be to create
    Captivate videos about Captivate!
I've only had a quick look, but fallen at the first hurdle
when asked which window to record (all open progs. are there, but
    not Captivate).
    Many thanks

Figures that yousendit is a blocked site at work. I will grab
it form home and then VPN it over.
I agree with using virtual sessions to reinforce lessons
learned in to demonstrations. Actually, I'm even using the demos
included with Cap 3 as part of my overall training interaction. New
users will go back and forth between the incldued Cap 3 demos and
expanded versions I create with voice-over. They will be building a
project as they learn. Then we will meet using Adobe Connect to get
more in depth, review their projects, and answer questions. I am
hopeful the new version of Connect makes it easier to import
    Captivate projects with host controls.

  • Stereo Audio recording in Captivate 6?

Hi, I am having problems with capturing stereo audio in sync with the video, in Captivate 6.  I am making training videos for music software and have looped back the audio from the programme into Captivate, in order to record it's output.  It monitors fine, but it looks as though Captivate is only recording the audio in mono - and there are no settings to change this.  Is this the case?  I really need stereo sound on the input, otherwise functions in the programme cannot be demonstrated correctly.  I have looked through the forums and it would seem that stereo recording was definitely included in earlier versions (as it caused some users the opposite problem of sound from a microphone only appearing on one side).  I am using Captivate version 6 on Windows 7.  Please can you help me?  Cheers, Mike

    Hi Michael,
There is no option to select the audio recording as stereo or mono at time of recording.
Can you tell me that have you installed captivate as a part of suite or it is a stand alone Product?
If you have installed Captivate as a part of E-learning suite there is a software called as Adobe Auditon which also gets installed as a part of suite , which can serve your Purpose , It can record as stereo as well as mono. and you can directly insert the audio generated from this software in Captivate.
And In Captivate also there is an option in Edit > Prefrences>Publish settings.
You can uncheck the Publish as Mono option while Publishing and check if it works for you.
    Please check the screenshot

  • Use Captivate to create PDF Manuals

We have been research "single-source authoring" solutions, such as Datango, uPerform, STT Trainer, UPK, etc.  They promote the ability to capture screenshots and generate Job Aids, Videos, Sims, and EPSS resources with a single click.
My Q - Has anyone used Captivate to create handouts / job aids?  I played around with a few of the Print publishing outputs, and I don't think we can use them.
If you have used it, it would be very helpful to see an example of a job aid that you created.
Until I find a way to do it, I'm taking one of the print publish outputs and significantly modifying them to look like our current quick reference guides.
    Thanks!

    I'm not sure they are.
Captivate allows you to record what is happening. For example, perhaps you are describing how to open Windows Character Map. You Start Captivate, define your recording area and set about opeingin Windows Character Map. Then you stop recording. Captivate will have captured the screens that were involved. You would see a screen of the desktop with the mouse moving to the Start button. Another screen where the Start button is clicked. Another screen where the mouse moves to the Run command and clicks. Another screen where you see charmap being typed into the field and Enter is pressed to launch the application. That would be the Captivate project. You would thien tell Captivate you wanted to create a SWF of that.
With RoboHelp, you create HTML pages which are known as Topics. And you might also describe the same process of opening Character Map in one or more topics. Much like Word, you would type information in and capture screen shots. (Possibly using RoboScreen Capture if you like). But each screen capture would need to still be inserted into the topic(s). No way around that, I'm afraid.
I'm unfamiliar with how Frame works. To me it's bewildering. So I'd have to leave it to others to describe that to you. But I do believe it works in a similar manner to RoboHelp, in that you type your information into it. Frame simply handles very large documents more easily. It also stores and arranges the content differently.
Hopefully I've helped more than hindered here... Rick

  • Have you used Captivate 4 with SAP?

I have tried using older versions of Captivate to create SAP demonstrations and simulations, and wasn't particularly pleased with the output. My employer is happy for me to upgrade to Captivate 4. Before I do, can anyone share their experience of using Captivate 4 with SAP?
    Thanks, KristinaWasa

    Hi there
I have no clue what SAP actually is. So I'm going to ask that you clarify your request a smidge.
I'm wondering if you are asking if Captivate coexists with SAP so you may record what goes on with SAP?
Or is SAP a delivery mechanism similar to or possibly even a Learning Management System (LMS) and you are asking if Captivate content is easily delivered by and communicates nicely with this system.

  • Problems with using Captivate 7 behind Proxy

Since I've upgraded to Adobe Captivate 7, I have issues while using Captivate. The program start takes very long and during working the program window sometimes freezes and then I have to wait about 15 Seconds before Captivate allows continuing my work, sometimes Captivate crashes completely. These issues are gone, when I'm disabling my network connection. I'm using Captivate inside a corporate network and behind firewall and proxy.
I tested it also with a direct internet connection, no problems. So I'm missing some adresses which are filtered by the proxy. Does a list with necessary connections for Adobe Captivate 7 exist?

It is well known that Captivate authors should ONLY work on project files that are stored and accessed from the computer's own hard drive.  If you are pulling down project files from your network LAN or saving back up to the LAN using Captivate then you will have these issues.  The use of virtual My Documents folders and roaming user profiles can also play havoc with Captivate's stability.
You need to set up working folders on your C drive for your Captivate projects.  You'll need one for your Captivate Project Cache, one for your Captivate Publish folder, one for your Video Demo Recording Working Folder, and one for your Layouts and Themes.  All should be on your own hard drive, not the LAN or (if your IT dept uses virtualization or roaming user profiles) in your My Documents folder.
Once your folders are created you can set these as the Default Locations in Preferences > General Settings > Default Locations and Preferences > Recording > Video Demo etc.
Since it appears as if you have been working over the network up to this point, you may also find that you need to kill your Preferences folder as well after setting up the local default locations.  Otherwise Captivate will continue to look for the network addresses.

  • Shortcut Keystrokes recorded using Word do not work in browser playback?

I am using Captivate 3 and am recording interactive software tutorials for use by remote students accessing our web site.  I have experienced a number of problems, one of which is if I record shortcut keystrokes in Training Simulation, eg Ctrl + O, this then activates the Open dialog for my browser (IE7) when this is used as an interactive training session.
In addition, when using the Prnt Scrn to capture additional images, these are usually poor quality but more often appear as blank slides.  Help on both please.
One final question - where can I access, say, a one day on line tutorial for Intermediate use of Captivate 3, ideally geared towards recording on line interactive software tutorials.
    Many thanks.

    Hi there
    Lynda.com?
You are asking for some fairly specific training. Training I'm not sure exists exactly as you list it. Most training works by following a specific curriculum that has been designed to show you how to use a fairly generic set of the features of the application.

  • Any possible issues using Captivate 4 on Vista 64-bit OS?

    Hi:
Looking to order a new PC and load up on ram for Captivate 4 and some other applications I am using.
I realize Captivate 4 is not certified for use on a Vista 64 bit OS, but I am wondering if I will run into a bunch of performance issues or what your experience may be using C4 on a 64 bit machine.  I heard it is possible to force Captivate 4 to run as a 32bit application, but I don't know specifically how to do it.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

None that I found.  I worked with adobe for a while and they sent me a couple of patchs that were supposed to fix the problem, and while I eventually could record audio, I never was able to edit it.  Adobe eventually lost interest and stopped responding to my requests.  I think it has something to do with Vista becasue I am running xp on a brand new 64bit Mac at home and it works fine.

  • Using Captivate AND video?

We're doing a monthly meeting that involves a lot of on
screen demos, as well as a presenter and questions from the
audience. The room is fully video equipped, however, it's lousy at
recording the screen due to the resolution and lighting of the
    projector.
I'd like to capture all on-screen action and presenter audio
via Captivate, and then record the meeting with the video in
addition. Is there a practical way to then maybe add the video to
the captivate presentation? Maybe as an FLV in a small 'picture in
    picture' type of window?

    Hi darreldarrel
I'm guessing you might be able to accomplish it by recording
the Captivate and publishing to create one .SWF. Then create a
second Captivate that is larger than the first. This one could
    become a "one slide wonder".
Insert the first Captivate into the second. Then insert the
video and position as desired. I'm thinking this may create the PiP
effect you could be looking to achieve.
Keep in mind that it's just theory at this point. I've not
tested it. There could be issues I've not considered by using this
    approach.

  • Published swf/htm-output is blurry using Captivate 7

    Hi everybody!
This is my first post in this community, as I have an urgent problem and couldn't find any help using google or the search in this community.
This is my first project using Captivate 7 (I work with version 5 before). I record a software demo in 985x700. When previewed in the browser (company is using IE8) it is sharp and clear. If I publish the project as an exe-file it looks brilliant, but when I publish it as flash the quality is decreasing, but still okay! But only if I open the htm-file locally from my computer. If my colleagues insert the htm/swf as a link into the software, where it should be used as a little help-video, the quality gets totally blurry! They swear they don't change the original settings in the htm-file and the size stays exactly the same.
Here's a screenshot with the htm-file opened locally on the left and the same file opened when it is launched from the software on the right. The exe-file would be really sharp, but unfortunately we can't use that.
Any ideas why there is such a loss of quality when being published?

The SWF is likely being displayed at a slightly different size to the original.  It might be only one or two percent, but that is all that is required to get this loss of quality.  When your colleagues embedded the Captivate file for display in their software, how did they do it?  Did they use the HTM and JS files Captivate creates or did they set up their own?

  • Text-To-Speech Recording in Captivate 5

I am using Captivate 5, when I use the TTS and even though I select Paul, I always get Heather's voice. How can I change this? I have tried closing and reopening the software, starting at slide 1 and selecting Paul first but it still records using Heaher's voice. Can anyone assist me with this one?

    Hi there,
When you want to change the speech agent, make sure you select the row which displays the speech agent's name by clicking on it and then choose the required speech agent from the dropdown. After this, the selected agent's name will be shown in that row.
Let me know if you followed the same steps and still have the issue.
    Thanks,

  • Any options for using Captivate on Windows 2003?

I am new to Captivate but I must get a demo done by Friday. I
installed on Windows 2003 where the software I am demo-ing is
installed. Now I find that 2003 is not supported. Can anyone
suggest (quickly!) how I can use Captivate to do my demo?
I am not savvy at all with demo software, so please be
    specific. Thank you!
    Janise

    Hi again Janise
Yes, as long as you can display what you need on the XP
desktop, you should be good to go.
Keep in mind that your best result will likely be obtained by
creating the voiceover as a separate process and not while you are
    recording the initial movie.
Also, you may discover that the remote destop won't paint
quite fast enough so Captivate will record "blank screens" here and
there. Where you notice this happening, press the Print Screen key
to force additional screen captures. It's always easier to delete
unwanted slides than it is to re-create them when needed.

    Hi j2399123,
It sounds like your screen recording is doing what it was designed to do, capture what is happening on your screen, with optional voice over with the microphone.
Screen recording is for recording what you see on the screen, it is not a "video capture" option, like for capturing a movie with sound that is playing on your screen.

  • How to get multiple records using fn-bea:execute-sql()

    Hi,
I created Proxy service(ALSB3.0) to get records from DB table. I have used Xquery function(fn-bea:execute-sql()). Using simple SQL query I got single record, but my table having multiple records. Please suggest how to get multiple records using fn-bea:execute-sql() and how to assign them in ALSB variable.

    Hi,
Am facing the same issue stated above that I couldnt get all the records in the table that am querying in the Proxyservice.
    For example:
fn-bea:execute-sql('EsbDataSource', 'student', 'select Name from StudentList' ) is the query that am using to fetch the records from the table called StudentList which contains more than one records like
    Id Name
    01 XXX
    02 YYY
    03 ZZZ
I tried to assign the result of the above query in a variable and while trying to log the variable, I can see the below
    <student>
    <Name>XXX</Name>
    </student>
I want to have all the records from my table in xml format but it's not coming up. I get the value only from the first row of my table.
    Please suggest.
    regards,
    Venkat
