  • With OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, cannot record video with the iMac's built-in FaceTime HD camera. Cannot find the "Import" button in the toolbar.

Just updated to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and cannot find the "Import" button in the toolbar to record video on my iMac's Face Time HD built-in camera.  Trying to follow the steps found under "iMovie (2013): Record video with the FaceTime HD camera" on apple support posting but it seems to me that those were posted for another OS version.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello Triunfo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are using the current version of iMovie, 10.0.6, you can follow the directions in the help article linked to below to import using the built-in FaceTime HD camera.

  • Recording Video on the Imac

Hey guys. I am 14 years old and have a passion for Video editing and movie makeing. Currently i am using my IMac to make videos for my schools Morning announcement program. What i was wondering is if it is possible to record what is going on on the computer screen (for example record video of World of Warcraft). Also if it is possible to record directly onto the computer from an outside source, for example a Xbox. (i figured that recording these would give me something fun to mess with and work on my skills without having to have a bunch of my friends come over and act for me)

Chuckarthy, Welcome to the discussion area!
Snapz Pro X is the premier utility for capturing activity on the screen.
...for example record video of World of Warcraft...
Most games override any thing else and won't allow you to capture screen shots.
Also if it is possible to record directly onto the computer from an outside source, for example a Xbox.
If your mini-DV camcorder has digital pass through, you can pipe the video from the Xbox into your mini-DV camcorder and out via Firewire to iMovie on your iMac.

  • IOS6 unable to toggle flashlight on/off while recording videos

Ever since upgrading to iOS 6 from 5 on my iPhone 4S I am unable to toggle flash/on or off while I am recording videos. In previous iOS versions I was able to record and toggle the flash to on or off as I see fit without having to stop the recording.
is there something I am missing here?

I do not hold out much hope for the popup solution.
Popups are a problem because they have no background, and that is the only place you can put graphics that are not subject to the highlight limitations.
But Blu-ray highlights are higher bit depth. Make sure you select rich color in menu properties. I do NOT know if this applies to popups, but I think it should.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/using/button-subpictures-highlighting.html
"Encore supports 8-bit color in subpictures for Blu-ray disc menus. You can export 256-color menu subpictures for Blu-ray. In addition, you can export full original colors for menu button highlights in Flash.
To export subpictures in full original colors, select Export Highlights in Rich Color in the Menu Properties pane. Encore displays menu highlights with full colors in Menu Editor.
However, Encore only displays two-bit DVD colors in the Preview panel. If you do not enable this feature, Encore exports menu highlights in two-bit colors for Blu-ray and Flash."
What is our client really trying to do? If it is a promo piece, you would normally have the logo etc in all the time, or at particular points that are determined strategically. Perhaps he/she can't make up their mind? I would also consider a 3 video version: with, without, and strategic on/off.

  • Can iMac receive a live video feed

Is iMac capable of receiving a live video feed? Hoping to use a live HDMI feed from a video switcher, but iMac doesn't have an HDMI "in".
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Russ

You'll need one of these devices to input video/HMDI into the Mac.

    A simple adapter won't work.

  • How can I turn off my screen while recording video?

Hey...I would like to know how can I keep an ongoing video recording while turning off my computer's display?

Energy Saver, you can keep the computer awake while the screen saver shuts the monitor off but I'm not sure that would do it for you.

First you have a 4G iPod. Yes there is some delay between tapping the stop button and the recording stopping.

  • Video recording with screen off

Is there a way or an app to record video on the iPhone 4 where you can start it recording and then turn the display off to save the battery?

There are lots of dashcam apps available now. If you want to record the whole ride rather than the last few minutes, just set the record time to the max your phone memory can stand. I use ISMDVR in my car, it has a car mode screen which is mainly black but does give a speed reading and some other info.  I tried one or two apps but settled on that one.

  • Record video on iphone with display off?

I want to record video of an upcoming classical concert, but I don't want to distract the audience around me with a glowing display (regardless of if the brightness is all the way down)-- Is there a way to capture video with the phone "off" ?

You can't as you have noticed there is no option on the camera roll.
I hope there is an update soon to allow this feature as airplay has good potential.
It would be so convenient to record video on the iPhone and then via AirPlay stream to Apple Tv on the big screen.

  • Turning off video feeds

On a group video call, can people with slow internet connections not only turn off their cameras, but also the video feeds from everyone else?

    Hi, cropwithcare,
No; there is no provision within the Skype software to perform the action you describe.

  • Can I record Skype video feed using iSight camera?

I have tried to use the iMovie application to record video sessions via Skype but I am not sure if this is possible. The Help instruction tsay to click the mode switch to set iMovie to built-in camera mode but i do not see this function. Does this mean I do not have the correct version of iMovie or that my computer is not compatible for this function?

You cannot use your built-in iSight for video in two applications (Skype and iMovie) at the same time.
I do not see any built-in ability to record video calls in Skype's video features page:
      http://tinyurl.com/239gqgf
The easiest way for you to record Skype video is to add http://ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/
You will find many other possibilities if you search the web for "+how to record Skype video call?+" (without the quotation marks.) You may find many other perfectly acceptable alternatives, but I have always had good results with ecamm products and can recommend them in good conscience.
If you are determined to use iMovie, I can suggest two ways to record a Skype video call using iMovie:
    (1) Run Skype on one Mac
      • Run iMovie on a second Mac pointing at the first Mac's display.
    (2) Connect an external webcam to your Mac. (With more than one camera, iMovie will show both.)
      • Launch iMovie and select the external cam as the video recording source.
      • Point the external cam at your Mac's display.
      • Launch Skype and verify that your built-in iSight is the cam that Skype will use.
      • Start your Skype call and set the window size, brightness, and location.
      • Adjust the iMovie cam to show the part of your display you want to record and start recording.
Call Recorder seems a much better ways to record your Skype videos than either of these.
*For Snow Leopard users wanting to record Skype video*: you can record your entire display regardless of what app is running by using the QuickTimeX (version 10.x) that is bundled with Mac OS X 10.6.x. (10.5.8's QuickTime does not offer this screen recording feature.) QTX records only the full screen, so a product like Call Recorder may still be of interest to SL users who want to record less than full screen calls.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, my ip camera video feeds time out

I've been using my iMacs for a few years to monitor six ip Camera video feeds.  The cameras I use are both FOSCAM and AXIS brands.  I've used a few third party software solutions to do the monitoring, but I could also always use Safari to access a camera at a time by putting that camera's IP address in the address field and logging into the camera.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my video feeds started timing out when using DComplex's IP Camera Viewer, so I thought initially it was strictly an issue with that third party app.  However, I then logged into my cameras using Safari and they timed out as well.  Similarly, when using Axis Camera viewer, my video feeds would time out.  It seems as whatever the issue, it does not affect Firefox, because I can still login and monitor 1 feed at a time using that browser without any timeout issues, and for some odd reason, the FOSCAM only program uFoscam works, but the problem for me with that app is that it only works with Foscam, and not the Axis cameras (besides it's an inferior program to IP Camera Viewer in my opinion as well).
Has anyone encountered this problem and come up with a solution?  I'm thinking it's some sort of plugin or video codec problem, but it's well above my paygrade to figure it out.

I'm having the same problem with both my Vivotek wired network camera and Panasonic wireless network cameras. At first I thought this was an issue with the video framework in Mountain Lion, but if Firefox is working (I haven't tried it yet), it sounds like it may be an objective-c video library that has been changed. It's possible Firefox is using an objective-c interface that calls an objective-c function that isn't called by Safari or IP Camera Viewer, etc., (possibly a function that is on its way to be deprecated) or Firefox could use it's own library that directly calls the video framework.
Could be the Mountain Lion objective-c framework has a buffering issue.
Since this is occuring in both 3rd party software and Apple software, it sounds like it's an Apple issue. 3rd party applications typically utilize the Apple Developer objective-c frameworks to access video frameworks/libraries (for example, MJPEG). Thus, contacting 3rd party developers may not solve the situation (unless they can figure out a temporary bandaid--possibly figuring out the video framework call that Firefox uses and patching their software to do the same (not a simple task), but could still provide more feedback to Apple via their developer status.
Has anyone attempted to record from their cameras via iMovie or Final Cut Pro X HD? I will try mine later tonight to see if it records the hanging. If it does, then it's looking more and more like Apple's the culprit.
My suggestion is for everyone to file a bug report via http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
