Recording videos from Internet, with Apple software or from another company

I know there's a way to record whatever sound is made by any application
with Audio Hijack.
Is there the video equivalent to Audio Hijack ? Does Apple make one?
For example: Suppose there's a video playing in youtube
or elsewhere on Internet through Safari, how
do I record the video part and save it?
There just has to be a way!

Most YouTube content is copyright protected thus illegal to copy.
The quality is only as good as the software/hardware that was used to create it.
Apple does not write any software like Audio Hijack.

I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist That will take you right to that file.
(.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

Recording video in 640X480 with H.264 compression?

I need to make extended (>1hr) recordings in 640X480 with my MacBook's built-in iSight.
QuickTime Pro only seems to be able to record video at 320X240 with compression or 640X480 without compression (which takes around 1GB per minute!!).
Is there a way to get it to record at 640X480 with H.264 compression?
If not, is there some other app that can acheive this feat in real time?
(I've tried iVeZeen but it just stores the uncompressed video and later compresses it, which means that I run out of disk space just as quickly as with the uncompressed QT option)
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I have run my TC on a 12V SLA battery.. which would neatly meet that part of the functionality you want. But it is heavy and not really the rugged sort of device I think you want.
But I would look at other media players and other ways of storing movies than iTunes.. if you want to carry the whole lot around with you .. A bunch of SD cards even you could plug into the ipad??

Problem Connecting to Internet after recent Software Updates from Apple

I have an old iMac 15" flat panel, running OS X 10.3.9, just ran the Software Update an hour ago. Now my computer won't connect to my wireless network via the Airport. I tried to open the Internet Connect apps from Apple and it won't even load, it has this swirling beachball has been on for 15 minutes and it says "Loading Internet Connect..."
Anybody experience something like this! Could this be another Apple blunder with their software update?
I tried, restart, remove the plist of Internet Connect, all those did not help!

WebStart over the last two years has given me no end of headaches with deployed applications mysteriously breaking when either Oracle or Apple have made changes. So far WebStart just has not been a reliable and robust means of deployment.
Is WebStart to be taken seriously as a deployment vehicle for a commercial application or should I be looking at other solutions?
Also: How do I report bug to Oracle? Do you have to pay for support in order to report bugs?

Unable to remove apple software update from PC

I am unable to update my i tunes as there is a problem with the apple software update. I have uninstalled everything else to try and rectify the issue but it has now made it worse as everything has gone but the apple software update. It cant be removed from my PC any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Recording Video for Email with Built-In ISight

I am using iMovie HD and the built-in iSight camera to record video messages. While I certainly want the video to be sent with everything in its right place, it would be easier to make the video if during recording the image were a mirror image (as if I were looking in a mirror). This is done for iChat. Can this be done while recording in iMovie?

No; iChat has that facility built in. You see yourself as if in a mirror; the other person sees you as you are.
To do it in iMovie you'd need to record your footage, then apply the 'Mirror' video effect to the clip ..it's under 'Editing', beneath the Clips pane, and then the 'Video F/X' tab.
You'd have to slide the 'Horizontal' slider all the way to the right in order to flip the clip and get a proper mirror image. Rendering may take a while, depending on how long your clip is.
The audio will probably be dreadful, so it's best to Extract the audio from the clip first, before 'Mirror'ing.
But why email a mirror image of yourself? It'd look very odd to the recipient! (..even if it looks OK to you..) ..Whoever receives it - if they know you - will think that something's wrong; your smile will be wrong (tilted the wrong way), any distinguishing marks will look wrong ..it just won't look like you at all!

How can I remove Apple Software update from Programs in Control Panel. I grt a message that there is an error in Windows Installer Package?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Transfer photos from CD with OS9 software into iPhoto

Here's the deal. I am able to do this, but it takes a long time with a lot of steps, hence, how do I ... or more importantly, can it even happen ... set up an automation.
I use to get photos on cd from seattle film works. I want them in iPhoto. The way I am able to do this now is:
insert cd
start OS9
run a bit of software called Photoworks to open the photos
Save As ... JPEG or PICT, but I have to manually change file name so it ends with .jpeg or .pict as opposed to .sfw (seattle film works) ... in another file
import these saved files into iPhoto.
So I know This can be done, but the question is, can I automate it?

I've now got the job done. Basically, transferring photos taken on film, from CD's the company sent back with the photos, to iPhoto.
I was able to run the old software I had transfered from my last Apple computer.
I should note that the company themselves, or I should say, the current owners of the original company, did email me back with the same advice you did.

Video Playback Issues With Apple TV3 Running OS8

I have two Apple TV3s (Both Pre 2013)
One updated today to the latest OS8, the other still running the previous OS7.1.2
Now when trying to play virtually any of my own MP4 videos the OS8 firmware version Apple TV3 refuses to play the file.
Apple TV simply displays "An error occurred loading this content" (retrying simply displays the same error again)
If I then use the second Apple TV3 (running the older firmware OS7.1.2) and try to play exactly the same files from the same iTunes library the file will play back correctly.
So far the OS8 Apple TV3 is unable to play over 95% of the video files it could previously play prior to the firmware update.
The odd file will play but these files are of differing resolutions so don't appear to share anything in common. It is always the same files that will or wont play.
All video files are Profile 4.0 or lower and contain the required audio tracks.
I am running iTunes 11.4.0.18 (Windows 8.1)
Prior to the update every video file played correctly (on both Apple TVs) and the second Apple TV3 (using the earlier OS7.1.2 firmware) still plays the exact same files correctly.
Music files are unaffected and playback correctly on both Apple TV3s.
The latest firmware update appears to have corrupted the video playback of the Apple TV3 in some way.
I have even tried a complete USB restore of the OS8 Apple TV3 but this has made no difference.
Has anyone else experienced MP4 playback issues since updating their Apple TV3 to OS8?

After further tests it would appear that Apple TV 7.0 (OS8) firmware is unable to play any video file with NO CHAPTER markers.
If I use MetaX to simply tag an unplayable MP4 file with a single chapter, that file will now play correctly using an Apple TV3 running Apple TV 7.0 (OS8). If the single chapter is then deleted the same file reverts to being unplayable.
In previous versions of Apple TV firmware any video file with NO CHAPTER markers could be played correctly and the Apple TV would automatically generate chapter markers at equally distributed time gaps.
For some reason Apple TV 7.0 (OS8) firmware appears to have removed this auto chapter marker feature so if a file has no chapter markers the Apple TV will now consider the file as invalid.
With MetaX it is possible to manually generate additional chapter markers so you can still skip through the file rather than only scan.
iFlick for Mac should I suspect be able to do the same thing.
