Recording Vocals with Ozonic

I am trying to record Vocals through my new M-Audio Keyboard (Ozonic). I have no problem with having the controller do the software instuments. I am going directly into the keyboard with my my XLR and have signal. I am trying to monitor the track with the headphone outs on the Ozonic butI am not getting anything through the phones. Any ideas? Thanks

hi mario
I have the same problem and read about others that have also the problem. I don't know if it's a hardware problem or firmware bug.
Do your hear sound over the A and B channels? I do.
What M-Audio driver are you using? I'm using 1.8.2

  • Air or Pro for Recording vocals with GarageBand or PT and Producing

I'm considering buying a MacBook and would like to get a new Air. I will be using it mainly for recording my vocals on beats that I have bought on iTunes. I'm also going to be taking a couple of Coursera classes on music production. Can the new Air's handle GarageBand or Pro Tools well? I've been using my iPhone 4S with GarageBand to record but I would like to do more editting of my vocals with Pro Tools. The reason I like the Air is b/c it is light and easy to transport.

One thing with vocalists, I can think of, is to show them the input device, and have them watch the clip meter. After a few takes, if they are somewhat savvy at singing into a mic, they'll start to back off on strong notes, and moving in on subtle notes. If you watch a pro singer on stage, you'll see them pulling the mic in close for soft stuff, and backing it way off for the strong notes. In the studio, the same techniques can be used, but the person has to back away, rather than a hand held mic pulled away.
Hardware can help this to an extent, but the singer has to take some action to get the best performance recorded. If I were going to use hardware, it'd probably be limiting more so than compression. Limiting can keep your signal under control, without doing too much to the dynamics. I'd prefer to save compression for post, so I can decide what sounds best. I used to have a female vocalist with an amazing voice. i was NEVER able to capture her properly on tape, since I had no pre processing at all. She is still in this area, and I have invited her to come record some vox for me, because I want to see if I can now get a grip on them. If I ever do, she'll be featured on an upcoming CD

  • How do I record vocals with an existing music soundtrack?

I have been asked to sing for a funeral tomorrow. It's my grandfather's funeral and it's just not possible emotionally for me to get through it. I am attempting to use a music soundtrack which I've purchased to record the song and vocals in GarageBand. For some reason the vocals don't record with the music and vice versa. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. The service is tomorrow.

Check, if you have set any effects on your Master Track (Track menu > Show Master Track. Then click the Smart Controls icon. )
I started my sample project from an empty project to avoid any presets.
Check, if selecting a "Voice" patch for your vocal track will help.  Select the track, then open the Library and try the different "Voice" patches. Perhaps "Classical Vocal" will sound good for the occasion.

  • Very transparents comps on recording vocals

I always record vocals with my Avalon M5 preamp, which is very transparent and reliable.
I usually tend to go directly from preamp to DAW (without compression), to maintain the maximum transparency of the signal path.
But in some cases I need some comp to prevent the singer from overloading. I have a DBX 1066 comp, which works well, but it seems to me it colours a bit much the voice.
I would appreciate some suggestions on very transparents comps to use with my M5.
    Thanks

For the money I've always liked the FMR stuff... ie: "Really Nice Compressor".

guess what it says java file. So yes i'm sure. Sarcasm. Not the best way to encourage a total stranger to help you. Then there's
Sorry if i wasn't more clear but was that response needed? No it wasn't needed, but I'm not the one asking for help so I have the luxury of not worrying too much about it. It's extremely frustrating trying to drag relevant information out of someone, and makes one less inclined to bother.
Anyways, there's still nothing in this thread that actually explicitly says "there is a file called VolcanoApp.java in the directory where I'm running javac from" and I really can't be bothered banging my head against the wall any longer. You've made a silly mistake, or a false assumption. We all do it from time to time. My advice is, take a break, go for a walk and re-visit this in a while. You'll probably spot the mistake right away.

  • Problem with Garageband 11 when recording Vocal, always "Follow tempo...

    Hi!
Every time i try to record vocal in Garageband 11, it automatically selects "Follow tempo and pitch". Even when I turn it off, it always turns on when I start to record, and then always is checked. I always have to uncheck it later when I already have recorded, and then my audio seems somehow a little bit altered because I recorded with "Follow tempo and pitch".
Anyone know what the problem might be?
    Cheers

No, he's just making a point repeatedly: checking this box doesn't alter the vocals, neither the original recording (which is never changed by any effect or manipulation) nor the playback. What might have happened is that you either changed the tempo or key of the song, or you happened to play with the cursor in the Editor pane which might have pushed some audio around. Or you made another track the groove track so the vocal track tries to groove along with it. The checkbox alone doesn't do anything.

  • I have recently purchased an i5 27 inch Imac with 8gb ram, will this be enough to run logic studio and record vocals?

I have recently stretched my budget as far as I can and have purchased my first Imac! I am really excited about getting it , its an i5 2.7ghz and i went for the 8gb ram upgrade. My question is will this be enough to run logic studio to produce music and record vocals?
If you have a similar setup please le me know how it runs for you. I would also like to hear about the average number of plugins you can run and any other tip to get the most out of your processor.
Logic Studio will be the only big program running on it, I plan to get a blue icicle converter and a blue condenser microphone for vocal recording so I hope the Imac is up to the task!
Hope to hear from somebody real soon.

You should have no problem at all. That iMac is more than capable of running Logic.

  • Recording vocals

    I have an:
    -8800 shure stage mic.
    -M-Audio Ozone.
    -DX4 Audiophile studio monitors.
    -G4 mini mac (256 RAM).
Does anyone have tips on how I should set up to record vocals over Garageband music tracks I've made?

you might run into some problems with the RAM, 256 might not really be enough to run garage band quickly and without bugs with alot of real music tracks. However, with regards recording technique, set up the M-audio with he mic plugged in, and then get a pair of headphones. I dont know if your M-audio has a built in monitor or not, so plug the head phones in either through the M-audio or right into the back of the mini. Press record and lay down the vocals to the playback from the already created music tracks.

  • Recording vocals seperate from main music Mac

I do most of my music on a Mac Pro, running Logic Studio 9, but the location of the computer really isn't a suitable space for recording vocals in.
I can't keep lugging the Mac Pro about, so ideally I'd like to record the vocals in a suitable (different) space on to a laptop, then import the resulting audio files to the main project on my Mac Pro.
The idea is that I'd do a stereo reference mix of the music in Logic Pro, bounce it and copy that audio file to a project on the laptop (using Garageband or Logic Express to save cost).
With that project set up at the same tempo and sampling rate, I'd then record the vocals using the laptop. From there I'd copy the vocal audio file(s) and drop them into the music project on the Mac Pro, where I'd add any effects, processing and do the final mix.
First question - would this work? As long as I recorded the vocals in a project set to the same tempo and sampling rate as the music, would I have any timing or sync problems when adding the vocal audio files to the original music project?
Second question - if so, can anyone recommend any portable, Firewire 800 audio interfaces which would be suitable for recording the vocals on to the laptop? It would ony need to be 2 input channels maximum, but with at least one XLR input and phantom power.
    Any advice gratefully received!

but the location of the computer really isn't a suitable space for recording vocals in.
Is there any other room that would work better at your location? If so, consider buying a snake.

Or reinstall Logic Pro on your laptop, but without all the content. Your license permits this, as you're not using two copies at the same time.
First question - would this work?
Yes. I do this often. Just be sure that both files begin at 1 1 1 1. Additionally, as I usually have many takes tracking o'dubs, I always record to WAV (BWF) files so I can use the 'move to original record position' command to align less than complete audio files.
Second question - if so, can anyone recommend any portable, Firewire 800 audio interfaces
Most FW interfaces are FW400. Just get an [adapter.|http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html] and buy an interface which can be separately powered. There are dozens of suitable FW interfaces: one inexpensive box which I like is the [AudioFire4|http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/AudioFire4/index.php] which is 6in/6out - they make an Audiofire2 but that doesn't have XLRs. Apogee, Focusrite, Presonus etc. all have small interfaces which you might like - just [search around|http://www.sweetwater.com/c683--FireWireAudioInterfaces/low2high]. Personally, I would avoid M-Audio.
    Good luck.

  • Monitor my voice my while recording vocals?

I have icore5,8gb ram and my Rode nta1 mic which is pluged into profire610 that goes to my pc with 6pin buswire and headphones comes out from my pc realtak jack. Now the problem is that I can't monitor my voice while recording vocals.I have done Edit>Pre>Audio Hardware and set the device class to ASIO and device it shows M-Audio ProFire ASIO.and select Release ASIO driver in background. It records everything and play. But while im recording I can't hear my voice in headphones.Still if I choose MME from Audio Hardware and go to Multitrack window click R and "I" then I can hear everything in headphones but then again I can't record using MME.Please help me out im going crazy here

Is there any reason not to just use one of the two headphone jacks on the front of the Profire 610?  That's what they're there for.
Trying to use the in built Realtek piece of rubbish at the same time as the Profire is frought with difficulties since the Profire works best with ASIO drivers whereas the Realtek is an MME device.  Even if you could get it working, I suspect that latency might make the monitoring less than ideal.
Edited to add:  you MIGHT be able to get it working the way you want if you download ASIO4ALL from http://www.asio4all.com/
I have no way of trying this and still think using the Profire headphone outs would be a far better solution...but if you have to use the Realtek for some reason, give ASIO4ALL a try.

  • Question regarding recording vocals?

Hi, I'm considering in purchasing an IMAC real soon. Will Garage Band allow me to record vocals while playing an mp3, wave, cd, etc, from an internal player within the mac? For instance, I currently have a WINDOWS PC which I use winamp to play the audio and use CoolEditPro to record that same audio as well as vocals simultaneously. Will I be able to do this using Garageband and an internal audio player which comes with mac?
    Thanks

they are recorded as wave files on your player so you should be able to transfer them to your computer using mediasource

  • How can i avoid to record vocal memos on itunes?

how can i avoid to record vocal memos on itunes?

Voice memos as in (Voice Recordings?) I'm afraid these automatally are backup to your iTunes music library, when synced to your computer. One way i can suggest keeping them altogether is having a separate folder with them all placed in, and untick the box so they don't play when listening to music and so on.

  • Is it possible to record vocals in Logic Pro 9?

I just bought Logic Pro 9 to create music, but I was wondering if it's possible to record vocals over the music. If it is possible, how do I do that?

You've made a good point Miles. A feature they have added in both US and UK versions of cars is a thing called 'pedals'. In the UK it's a little confusing as there are 3 pedals but most people only have 2 feet, but hey!
In UK the middle 'pedal' functions as a slow-downer and the far right pedal functions as a speed-uperer. There are no short cuts to these features. In the US most cars have 2 'pedals' and most people have 2 feet, way more logical. In this case you'd want to press the left with your foot to slow you down.
I have heard that your car can go up hills but you have to configure the 'engine' properly. Once configured and the 'engine' is on, a whole new range of motoring possibilities will open up to you. The speed-uperer pedal has no effect unless the 'engine' is configured and working properly. Stumped me for ages.
Hope this helps you stick with 'car' a bit longer. Although 'boat' has it's attraction, jumping to a different platform is not always the answer.

  • Recording Stereo with USB Alesis multimix 12

I'm interesting in recording my guitar in stereo (with a condenser pair) while also recording vocals from a different mic. With my Alesis multimix mixer, i can only record 2 spereate tracks into logic by panning one to the left and one to the right. Is there anyway i can record stereo using 2 mics for my guitar and one for my voice?

No, there is no way to record them separately unless you record your guitar parts first then do a second recording with your vocals while your Mac plays back the recorded guitar parts (via headphone preferably). The Alesis MultiMix USB can only do stereo recording and playback at the same time.
