Recording voice for radio transmission

I want to record interviews for transmission on an FM radio station.  Someone has suggested I purchase iRig and a microphone to use with my iphone 4s.  Does anyone have experience of this please?

iRig: cheap, works in just about any application, works with just about every iOS device, can be noisy. At its price, try it, not much to lose.

  • IPhone record voice on iPod feature

    Hi,
I am thinking of buying an iPhone. I want to record voice for podcasts using the iPod feature. Can I do this with the built in mic? or a plug in mic? or do I need to buy an iPod?
    Thanks
    Marion

The iPods do not have a microphone at all.
I do not know what kind of quality you would get with the built in iPhone mic.
Probably would be better off buying something specifically designed for voice recording.

  • External microphone for recording voice memos on iPhone?

I have a video iPod and a plug in microphone to record voice memos. It's high quality and I love it. Is there one for the iPhone?

Not that I am aware of.

  • Is there a voice recording app for ipad that shares directly via iMessage (not just email) - like voice memos does on iphone?

Does any-one perhaps know whether there's a voice recording app for ipad that shares directly via iMessage (not just email) - like voice memo does on iphone?

You can't do anything in the background of iOS. Apps are still one at a time (with a few exceptions like Music), and suspend when the app is closed. It's also against the App Store guidelines to sell apps that would allow such actions.
Though, maybe you could get your Voice Memos saved to MP3's, which can play in the background of other apps.

  • Options for pre-recorded voice paging

What options are there for pre-recorded voice paging on Cisco Phone Systems.
We are running Cisco Unity Express 3.1 on a Cisco 2851 and I have a ATA186 that connects to a PA System that has an extension assigned to it.
So what I would like to do is select between 2 or three pre-recorded messages and play it over that extension.
I know Informacast will do it but that is a little expensive in my opinion for what I want to do.

Take a look at SynApps SA-Announce and Broadcast Manager: http://syn-apps.com
Both are great products, compatible with CME, and are typically cheaper than other options.

  • What format for a recorded voice media should I use for iMovie .  Should it be a Mp3

What format does Imovie except for a recorded voice media.  I making a movie and I wantto use my sisters voice.  She will record her voice and send it to me.  I have a audio converter. Should I convert  what ever she sends to a mp3.  What works best with Imovie 11 ?

    Hi
In all my Video works in iMovie HD6 or iMovie'08 to 11 or FinalCut Express 4 or FinalCut Express Pro 6
    I ONLY use
    • .aiff - 16-bit 48kHz or 16-bit 44.1 kHz (from Audio-CDs)
or if audio is in iTunes I then I collect needed sounds into a new PlayList - Then I burn this as a Standard Audio-CD (NO .mp3)
So - for me - no .mp3, .vma or other strange formats - all converted to .aiff
So I convert all 32 kHz audio to 48 kHz (else my audio goes out of sync.
By keeping this I get near to Zero problem with my Audio in all my projecs.

  • I need a digital voice recorder best suited for recording my voice for chorus and quartet rehearsals

I'm looking for a small digital Sony voice recorder best suited for recording singing for chorus and quartet rehearsals.  I received model ICD-AX412 but don't think that's the right one for this. I found a couple other models PCMD50 and PCMM10 online but want to know what to get!

    Hello Carol,
    Welcome to Sony Community.
When recording a chorus place the IC recorder on a table approximately 2 to 3 meters (80 to 120 in.) from the performer(s).
Set up the IC recorder with the display window facing up, and with the built-in microphones pointing towards the sound source.
Refer to page # 34 of the Manual (ICD-AX412) about placing the IC Recorder for recording chorus.
Also, select the Recording scene as “Lecture” for recording a chorus lesson.
You can refer to page # 32 and 33 of the Manual to select the recording scene.
Please mark it as "Accepted Solution" if you find this information useful.

  • MacBook with GarageBand as a recording studio for a radio program?

    Hey all.
My former Pastor, who is now head of a mission organization, is going to start recording a radio program. I told him I thought that the MacBook, which he has, would do the job with minimal extras.
My question is, have I told him correctly? If so, is anyone out there doing similarly? Do you know what format is required for radio? What extras do you recommend he get?(I thought a good headphone/mic combo)
Thanks for the replies in advance. You guys have always been a wealth of knowledge that most computer makers support can't compare to.
    Nick
PS-My apologies as this is a double post from the MacBook categories. I should have posted here instead.

Take a look here for aninterface:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Interfaces.html
I would say the inspire is my #1 choice for his application, as an interface. However he could go as simple as just a mixing console, like in the bottom row (the former would give the best results, the latter would still offer really good results)
    For a mic:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Microphones.html
I would probably pick the sm58. The BETA 87a is a phenomenal mic (I use one), though that alone is $250. The 58 would pick up less room sounds, the 87 would pick up everything
as an alt solution, the middle row are USB mics, the first two being very good quality, very reasonably priced, and would require no interface.

  • External recording indication for voice over recording

    hi,
i'm wondering if there is any way to get recording indication for voice over recording out of final cut pro or soundtrack pro. i need to get the 'on air' signalization to the speaker room which is not the same as editing room.
    i'm looking for something like
    http://www.punchlight.com/?q=node/10
which i'm used to use with protools. does anybody have any idea?

How about a switch you throw to turn on a recording light in the booth? I think less tech here is likely better.

  • Simple voice recorder/save for curve 8320?

Can anyone recommend a simple voice recorder for the curve 8320 where I can record voice notes and save them directly to my phone instead of emailing/mms'n them using the built in send voice note feature on the phone?  I have tried using handango and their software sucks, stuff doesn't work and I tried the vr+ voice recorder program they have and don't like it, I just want something simple.
    Does it exist?

soon, a Handheld OS version 4.5 will be available for your carrier (if you're at AT&T it already is). Inside it there will be a video mode : you'll be able to take pictures like today, and also 3GP videos.
If you want, you can install it from AT&T and delete the vendor.xml file on your PC before launching the Desktop Manager to upload the OS on your Blackberry.
Apart from that, I can't install applications on my Blackberry so I lag a bit about available wonders other people can install on their Curve.

  • What is best ASIO card for CC for radio station, windows 7 64 bit?

We are broadcast radio station switching to Windows 7 64 bit computers, running trial version of Audition CC as replacement to our current Audition 3.  Our used sound card is skittish, looking to buy new in two machines.  Currently, recording is unreliable, skips at times, clips at times.  Current card is Digigram vx222 v 2.  Can't get that driver to show as option for cc.  ASIO4ALL works sometimes, but not sure that all features are enabled.
This is one of two machines for automation software.  We use Simian Pro 2.2--which is working fine with the card, although we aren't using the voice tracker to see if Audition will work.
Question is, if we were to buy new ASIO cards for these machines, is there any brand or model that works best with CC?   Would be a bonus if it is a good fit for Simian as well, but that doesn't seem to be as fickle as Audition is.
Thanks so much for any way you can help me.  Once we know we can operate CC reliably, we plan to subscribe.  Until then though I am reluctant to pull the trigger.
Diane, the flustered radio station manager

It's been my experience that cards made specifically for radio tend to be a lot more finicky than Audition has ever been. They are generally designed to work well with specific software (like Simian), and the drivers are tailored specifically to deal with that. Audition, on the other hand, is designed (certainly on PCs) to work specifically with ASIO - and there are loads of good ASIO sound devices about. Your real issue will be to find one that will work with Simian, I think. If you just want a seriously good card that will work with Audition, then have a look at what RME have - their stuff is excellent. I have an RME Fireface UFX, which is an absolutely stunning device.
BUT.... I had a look at Simian's current position. As ever, they are way behind the field but it looks as though they are only going to claim compatibility with AudioScience devices. AudioScience claim that their ASIO drivers are okay, but it's rather telling that they had to produce a sheet specifically dealing with Audition, and that's about Audition 2 - which is truly ancient history! Digigram I hold out no hope for.
Radio soft and hardware (with the exception of Audition) mostly come from the dinosaur age, and unfortunately I think you may have to accept this, and divorce editing and programme production from transmission, just using a compatible file server between them. Just go for a decent ASIO sound device for Audition, and wait for everything else to catch up.

  • Help with recording voice

I would like to use garage band to record voice tracks of up to an hour long. I have a USB lLogitech headset with microphone, which appears in the GB preferences. I have checked the voice input on the System Preferences and turned it up and checked that the sound from the mike is registering. But it doesn't seem to be registering on garage band and nor is it recording. I read the GB help and turned on the little red thing in the track control panel, but nothing.
    I'm stuck.
    Any ideas?
    I'm running GB 2
    Thanks

    Hey Allie!
The problem is likely the compression that the station is doing to the stream for transmission... you might not be able to "fix" it the right way without looking at what they are doing to it, because if you send them OK audio, and it's monitored OK in FCP, but sounds bad over the air or whatever, then it's in THEIR court actually. But the EQ filters in FCP or Soundtrack Pro could be used to make your voice crisper sounding. Find the audio frequency of your voice and raise the highs and lower the lows a bit with those EQ filters. It's all real time too, so not hard to figure out. Try starting with the "Final Cut Pro" 3 Band Equalizer... just play with the settings during playback, and you'll see what it does... or for a further explanation, type "3 Band Equalizer" in the search box of the online help menu's User's manual.

  • I can't afford an expensive microphone, but I want better quality than internal microphone to record voice. What's out there?

I can't afford an expensive microphone attachment, but I want higher quality to record my voice for eventual radio use. What's out there as far as inexpensive attachments that are easy to use? What can I do using my MacBook Pro?

Not sure what your idea of inexpensive is - have you searched for USB Microphones yet?  There are hundreds of choices under $100 compatible with Mac or Pc.  I'd be cautious and read reviews of the cheaper items as the built-in mic seems to be better than most $20-$30 ones.
