Recording Webcam Video Without FMS
Is it possible to record video from your webcam locally in
Flash Player so that it can be played back at a later time, without
using a streaming server such as FMS?
Thanks!

How to Record Webcam Videos?
I have a Logitech webcam & want to record video. Can I do this with iMovie? Is there an easier or better app?
iMovie only works with the built in iSight camera, or with connected tape-based cameras. It does not see my Logitech webcam. Here's a quote from the page you linked:
To record video into iMovie:
Do one of the following:
If your computer has a built-in iSight camera, click the Import button to open the Import window.
If your computer doesn’t come with a built-in iSight camera, connect a tape-based camera or camcorder, set it to VTR mode (this mode may have a different name on your device), and then choose the camera you want to use from the Import From pop-up menu. -
Webcam Video pauses when recording sound from microphone
I have a strange problem which i am encountering when recording and playing back webcam video.
I am developing a small application for recording webcam video and audio using FMS and playing it back later from FMS.
I am using AS 3.0, FMS 3.5 and flash CS 5.5
When i record only the video from webcam without sound from microphone the playback is fine. But when i record microphone sound also along with the video, and when i playback the video pauses right where the sound starts for 10 sec or more and then it starts playing. Towards the end the video pauses again and only the sound goes on till the end.
I tried setting the buffertime to 50 before ns.publish and ns.play but that didnt help either.
I tried using the flvplayback component and even their it pauses.
Any help is appreciated.Haha, that is such a genius use of common sense! Thank you, I didn't think of that. I certainly will!
However, does anyone know if there is a way of adjusting the program of garageband to fix this issue? Using headphones certainly fixes the symptoms of my problem, but it doesn't actually address the root cause: garageband should only be recording the input through the microphone. I shouldn't need to wear headphones. (And doing so inhibits my ability to clearly hear myself play, and stay in tune.) -
Frames Missing When publish live video to fms server
I am creating flex mobile application , that allows people to connect using a android camera and microphone, then recording video from android camera to Flash Media Server(FMS) 5 starter using adobe flex but when I play the recorded live video from FMS it's missing some frames. I have set the camera.fps to 30 but when I trace out the currentFPS for camera 30 and netStream's currentFPS returns low value, usually falls between 2 and 5 (high 1280X720),15 and 20(medium 640x480),25 and 30(low 320X240).where netStream is the object of the flash.net.NetStream class
Hi
I think this would be useful to you.

Is there a way to record webcam video/audio to AMS and then play it back later to IOS. I think that a webcam "publish" stream is in .flv format.
Thanks for any help. Not an expert with this, but I've recently had no problem publishing to iPAD using the AIR for iOS publish setting. I first "overlayed" the AIR 2.7 SDK on Flash CS5.5. As of a few days ago there are instructions for doing the same with the new AIR 3.0 SDK at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90810.html
I did not use the quick pubishing setting. -
Webcam video recording bandwidth
hi all,
When capturing a webcam feed using FMS - is there any loss of
information during the upload process?
If my client has a limited uplink (for instance a poor DSL
uplink bandwidth) - does the resulting FLV file will suffer from
lost frames etc.? (is RTMP reliable or lossy)
If not lossy- how does it works?? does Flash client buffer
the recorded webcam feed on the client (because of the upload
limitations)?
where can I find more formal information about this (searched
FMS docs with no luck),
thx,
Chen.Yes... the Flashplayer will drop frames if the client's
connection to the server isn't fast enough. You can set the amount
of data that is bufferred on the client (see the FMS docs about the
client side netstream buffer), but if the buffer fills and can't
empty out to the server, you'll start losing frames.
As I understand things, audio takes precidence over video, so
video frames will drop before audio data is dropped.
What you might want to do is test your client's connection
speeds (you can do that with FMS), and then employ a little dynamic
bitrate/framerate control in your client side AS. That way, you can
ensure that the client doesn't try to transmit more data than their
internet pipe can handle, and you won't lose and data. -
Recording modified webcam videos
Hi there,
Is there a possibility - instead of attaching a camera [via
ns.attachcamera()] to a netstream - to "attach" e.g. BitmapData to
netstream. The reason is, that I use BitmapData's .draw method to
get the webcam video in order to change it, such as with the
.treshold method. And I want to record and save these altered
bitmaps (as a video) on the FMS instead the original webcam video.
This URL gives a good example what I mean!! ...
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/webcam_motion.html
Two videos are shown, the left one is the original from the
webcam, the right one the "modified" video. Only the modified video
shall be recorded via the netstream .publish method.
Thanks for any help.Hope someone answers you.... I have the exact same question.

How do I record a video on my macBook Pro's webcam and upload it to YouTube?
How do I record a video on my macBook Pro's webcam and upload it to YouTube?
Many thanks.Your posted info shows you are using Mac OS X (10.5.8). With this Mac OS, you can use iMovie, Photo Booth, or optional QuickTime 7 Pro to record and save a QuickTime video. (Be sure to save in a YouTube Supported file format.)
Then follow the YouTube Help instructions for How to upload your saved videos.

Record video with FMS, but distribute progressive - with HTTP
My application is going to serve around 200K simultanios
users. I can spend some money on FMS for the purpose of recording
video using Flash only (I mean w/o additional SW on the client).
But when it comes to serving the video, the cost of FMS is beyond
what I can afford. Therefore, I was thinking to use FlashPlayer/FMS
to record Audio/Video using the built-in Camera class in the Flash
Player and move the encoded file that's been store on FMS, to an
HTTP server. My viewers will play, in their Flash Player, simple
progressive video off of HTTP server (instead of streaming video
off of FMS).
Is it doable? What server-side SW is required to move the
recorded video to another HTTP server?
Any piece of info would be appreciated. When you open iMovie look at the switch under the screen. You will see a camera on the left of the switch and scissors on left. Flip the switch to the camera and the built in camera should come on. Then on the screen it will say record with isight. That starts the record.

How can I record video without sound?
I would like to record videos without audio on my iphone? Is their a way to record videos without sound in the default camera app? If not than does any one know of any apps that can?
Do you happen to have your phone set for mute? Apparently (with the Note 3) this would also mute recording of sound in videos. Using normal recording mode? Slow mo and other modes may not record sound either.

Is it possible to record a ipad video without sound?
Have tried everything, but unable to record videos without any sound.
I don't think you can. There's a low tech approach, put a piece of tape over the microphone. Might not cut it all but might mute it down.

hello,
Am developing an app on which a user can record from their webcam or upload videos to the fms. Is it possible to upload video to fms using php or flash?
regards
HarilalNot directly through FMS. What you can do is use the FileReference class on the client side and a php program on the server side to uploada file. If PHP is running on the same server as FMS, you can just have the PHP program place the uploaded file in a directory that is accessible to FMS. If not, you'll need to have the PHP program move the file to the FMS server (perhaps using FTP)

How to set/determine live recorded stream video quality?
Hi,
I was wondering if I were to create a NetStream object and publish it passing in "record" (allowing the end user to record a video via webcam which is then stored on the FMS), how would I specify the bitrate and frame rates etc of the video being recorded? Is this something I need to configure flash media server to do or can I do this through action script?
ThanksFMS will record video at the bitrate/framerate which is published to the server. You'll set your encoding parameters on the client side from where the video is being published.
In the case of flash/flex, you would set this using the setMode and setQuality methods of the Camera class. -
Can I record Skype video feed using iSight camera?
I have tried to use the iMovie application to record video sessions via Skype but I am not sure if this is possible. The Help instruction tsay to click the mode switch to set iMovie to built-in camera mode but i do not see this function. Does this mean I do not have the correct version of iMovie or that my computer is not compatible for this function?

You cannot use your built-in iSight for video in two applications (Skype and iMovie) at the same time.
I do not see any built-in ability to record video calls in Skype's video features page:
http://tinyurl.com/239gqgf
The easiest way for you to record Skype video is to add http://ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/
You will find many other possibilities if you search the web for "+how to record Skype video call?+" (without the quotation marks.) You may find many other perfectly acceptable alternatives, but I have always had good results with ecamm products and can recommend them in good conscience.
If you are determined to use iMovie, I can suggest two ways to record a Skype video call using iMovie:
(1) Run Skype on one Mac
• Run iMovie on a second Mac pointing at the first Mac's display.
(2) Connect an external webcam to your Mac. (With more than one camera, iMovie will show both.)
• Launch iMovie and select the external cam as the video recording source.
• Point the external cam at your Mac's display.
• Launch Skype and verify that your built-in iSight is the cam that Skype will use.
• Start your Skype call and set the window size, brightness, and location.
• Adjust the iMovie cam to show the part of your display you want to record and start recording.
Call Recorder seems a much better ways to record your Skype videos than either of these.
*For Snow Leopard users wanting to record Skype video*: you can record your entire display regardless of what app is running by using the QuickTimeX (version 10.x) that is bundled with Mac OS X 10.6.x. (10.5.8's QuickTime does not offer this screen recording feature.) QTX records only the full screen, so a product like Call Recorder may still be of interest to SL users who want to record less than full screen calls.
