"recording what i can hear" in logic ??

Hi, i want to record what my computer is playing for sampling purposes. I can do this type of thing in sony acid it gives you a "record what you can hear" option but im quite new to logic 8 so im not sure if i can do that?!?!?
Thanks in advance guys
D

So I've read most of the getting started thing and it tells you all kinds of things about editing songs etc...but it doesn't seem to say anything about not being able to monitor the sounds yo are recording. Example when I click the record button and have a track record enables it shows the information being drawn on the arrange region area but I can't hear the notes I am writing with the keyboard while i am recording nor playing it back...but..I can hear the click track which tells me the monitors are recognizing the data sent from logic to the interface..so the underlining problem is basically how can I get the sound that is being written through my monitors? Did I assign something wrong in the start up assistant or what?

  • How do I record what I can hear?

I use Cowmon Media to record what I can hear on my Dell Inspiron laptop.  Purchased a Toshiba Sattelite and tried to do the same thing.  It will not work.  All I see for recording devices is my microphone.  How do I set up my TS to record what I can hear?

There are many ways to record drums depending on what the final goal is and more important budget. You can start with one or two carefully placed mics to a mic on every drum and many will even add in some midi triggers.
If you have a Apogee One you could just use the built in mic and try experimenting with placement.
And you are going to want a set of headphones to monitor the playback not a speaker. A set of speakers and a open mic will feedback.

  • X-Fi "What you can hear" doesn't wor

    Hi,
I installed the latest driver for the X-Fi on
    Windows Vista Ultimate x64.
I want to use the "What you can hear" option, but this doesn't work!!!
When I go under the Sounds Option of Windows Vista, I can check "What you can hear" as the default device, but it says "Not available". Only the mic device under Recording is "In use", so it works, but not that "What can you hear".
What can I do? I get crazy by trying to get this work. I bought this X-Fi Card, because my old 5. Li've doesn't any new drivers for Vista, and this X-Fi isn't working as well as it is supposed.
Is this currently not supported? Will there be an driver update soon that fix this issue?Message Edited by Rocko on 05-23-20072: PM

    Thanks for your answer.
I already tried that, and it didn't work.
    Now I got the answer:
As long as one device is in use, you can't switch between microphone and "what you hear" and else...
As Long as one program uses the microphone, as example. A hint for other users..

  • Want to record what I'm hearing on Aux 4 when soloed

Hi, I've an effect on bus 4, that I want to record to an audio track...
I want to record what I'm hearing exactly/only when I solo bus 4
this bus has a flange effect 100% wet and is a really exaggerated flange effect...and loud too
Currently, I can only figure to put input of audiotrack as bus 4 but this for some stupid reason is not working....
all thats getting is what I'm SENDING to bus 4, a basic Closed Hat.
Now I've been talking to a guy who seems to say my problem must be my send control is to little BUT
even when I turn this full, the signal picked up/recorded to the audio track with bus 4 as input is STILL
just the originasl hat sound- no flange.
A solution to this would save me going mad here today!
p.s can't bounce unfortunetly because I dont want to dither twice at 24 bits, which also the finished track will be later
..which is a totall different topic I don't wasnt to get into
    thanks

What you want to record is not bus 4, but the Aux channel that is receiving the signal from bus 4.  Set the output of the Aux to a different bus, then use that as the input to the audio track.

  • HT4623 After installing iOS 7 my microphone isn't working. No recording , no one can hear me on Skype

After installing ios7 my microphone isn't working.  No one can hear me on Skype.  Recording device arnt working too.  I rebooted the device as well downloaded Skype again.   Please help me

A restore will not work either.  I went to the Apple genius bar and they did everything, but nothing worked.  "It is your hardware".   No, it is not.  It is Apple's IOS 7 software that was not properly coded/tested before they released it.  Now they will not own up to the problem.  There are too many people with the same issue that suddenly happened after the IOS 7 install.  Come on, Apple.  Fix this!  These are expensive devices and many of us will not buy another iPad if we run a risk like this.

  • No sound while recording but I can hear during playback

I plugged my iRig HD in my macbook air (Yosemite), opened garage band and configure input output settings. While I was recording couldn't hear any sound but during playback I could hear clearly everything. I haven't got any problem on Amplitube 3. Is there any different settings on garage band?

What if I want to use mac's speakers or an external speaker
As long, as are not recording using the internal microphone it should work to change the output in the GarageBand Preferences > Audio to System Settings and to set the System Preferences > Audio > Output to the internal speakers or the internal output , if you have speakers plugged in instead of your headset.

  • Mic records, but I can't hear sound.  (Logitech C920).

Hello there, new to the apple support community here but I have a question that I finally can't figure out myself.
I wanted to play around with twitchtv so I purchased a C920 earlier and (not sure how to put this) I can't figure out why the built-in mic is not sending my voice so that I may hear it through headphones or over my stream.  I tried configuring various settings I found while researching this problem and still  no luck on getting my voice streamed.  However, when I go into system preferences in the output area my mic is being heard and in garageband my mic is being recorded.  I can hear my voice when use playback in garageband, but that is the only time I can hear my mic.
Currently I am running the latest Mavericks OSX  I'm not sure what other information may be needed from my end, but if anyone is able to help I greatly appreciate it.
Edit: I figured out the problem shortly after I posted this... I apologize.   It was my Wirecast software, it was not properly sending my voice to twitchtv.  I used Flash Media Live Encoder instead and it worked like a charm.

I believe I have the same problem. I've got an 8130 running OS 4.5.0.138, and I've tried two different headsets, both of which worked when tested on two other phones. I've wiped my 8130 and reloaded the OS, but still no audio. I can hear the control beeps from the headset: call received, call rejected, connection completed, etc.; and I can use the button on the headset to accept/reject calls, end calls, redial, and start voice dialing. I just can't hear the call.
I'm at my wit's end and any help would be much appreciated.

I do not have 'what you hear' as an option any longer with the new Titanium; I had it with my older X-Fi Fatalty, but not this new card.
I would imagine it has something to do with Microsoft trying to limit recording of DRM-protected content, and Creative bowing to their wishes.

You can take it into an Apple store and have it checked out.

  • I'm having trouble recording a bass to go along with a recording I dropped into GB.  I'm using an interface and I can hear the bass line, I've clicked on the 'record' button, but the sound does not record.  What am I missing?

I have the bass connected to my imac with an interface.
I can hear the bass and I've clicked on the 'record' button, but the sound does not record.
    Am I missing something ?
    Please advise.

Double check all your audio settings.
System Preferences --> Sound --> Input should be set to your audio interface.
GB --> Preferences --> Audio/MIDI --> Input should be set to your audio interface.
With your track selected, open the Track Info pane, and select the Edit tab.  Under input make sure that Mono 1 or 2 is selected (which number will depend on which input you plugged your bass cable into).

  • Real newbie-I can hear my loops in my library, but when I drag them to a track, there is no audio.  What am I doing wrong?

Real newbie question-I can hear the loops in my library, but when I drag them to a track, there is no audio when I playback or record.  What am I doing wrong?

You probably put Midi loops (green) on audio tracks, and audio loops (blue) on Midi tracks.
    That won´t play.

  • How do you add non-Garage band instruments into a Logic project so that you can hear them on playback?

How do you add non-Garage band instruments (orchestral instruments) into a Logic Pro (8) project so that you can hear those insrtruments' sounds on playback?  I've tried to understand and follow the Logic Pro 8 User Manual, but the process comes off as so complex and the writing so technical that it does not help but only confuses.
To be precise - I want to add instruments (orchestral) that are not offered in the current Garage band menu which is offered in the Mixer's channel strip menus for Logic Pro 8.  To be clear, the instruments that are offered are Bass / Drum Kits / Guitars / Mallets / Organs / Pianos and Keyboards / Synth Basics / Synth Leads / Synth Pads.  Most of these that I've tried seem to work and give their characteristic sound when placed in a particular channel and playback is clicked.
However - there is one orchestra instrument offered in the standard Logic Pro 8 Mixer channel menu and it's the item labelled "Performance - 000 flute 1 or 001 flute 1."  And it is this instrument that presents a problem. When I click on it and choose it from the menu and enter it as the instrument of choice for a specfic channel / track in my Logic Pro project arrangement, when playing back the music for the overall piece this particular track, the flute, does not playback and produce the notes (Midi events) in the track in the sound of the flute.  Instead, nothing comes out at all.  I can't imagine why this does not work.  Any ideas, anyone? Again, when choosing this instrument for a track and clicking the playback no flute sound is forthcoming.  Why not? I have not tried them all, but when most of the other various types of keyboards, such as an electric piano or an organ, are chosen for a track the playback successfully renders the sound of these instruments.  Why then does playback not produce the sound of the flute when it has clearly been chosen to play and sound the Midi events given it?
Anyway, the overall, larger issue for me is the inability I have to choose and get non-Garageband instruments (largely orchestral) to play the Midi events given on various tracks. If my guess is correct then technically, orchestral instruments not offered in the standard Logic Pro 8 Garageband Mixer channel menu are referred to as external Midi sampled instruments - still, IMHO the process is not clearly spelled out in the User Manual.  The simple step by step process whereby a non-Garage band instrument, say an orchestral instrument, is placed in a channel replete with Midi event (notes) waiting to be played should be easy, logical and given in a simple to follow format, but is not.
What with all the talk of routes, busses, auxillary channels, GM devices, GM mixers, audio bins, libraries and audio files this Logic Pro User is confused to the max.  Can someone please help me and, in simple English, describe the step by step process whereby presumably external sampled orchestral instruments can be successfully employed, in any given Logic Pro arrangement project, to render their characteristic sounds upon playback?
On my two Macs, one a laptop and one a much larger Mac, I have any number of the GSO (Garritan Symphony Orceshtra) and Vienna Symphony Orchestra instrument library samples - and yet - I've yet to figure out how to actually get them INTO a Logic Pro project of any kind!  To put this as a question, even as a humble request, how can I make good use of these orchestral sample libraries in a Logic Pro project?  Can someone steer my to a clear resolution of this issue.  I'd sincerely appreciate it!  Thanks all!

David,  you understand that this is professional software and is not necessarily meant to be easy but is in fact designed to give the professional user as many choices as possible, that's why it's in the Pro Apps section. You WILL need to learn about buses, GM Devices, Audio Bins, Libraries...etc..etc if you intend to use Logic.
That said, you are looking in the wrong place in the channel strip.
      May I offer you advice?
    Go here:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/
Open "Exploring Logic Pro"  (a short PDF Document). Pay special attention to chapter 3. Also pay special attention to the included graphics of the channel strips.
I encourage you to read the whole document as it will clear up many things... even though it's a Logic 9 document.

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

When I make a call, I can hear the person on the other end but they can't hear me. It's not the mic bc face time or voice recorder are not affected. I can't even use my headphones or Bluetooth to get around the problem. This has stumped 2 geniuses, they just try to swap it out for $150.

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 4. I can hear everyone but they can't hear me. Visited Apple Store and they said speakers were out, both bottom mic and top one for speaker phone. Said they were busted. Reloaded all software and didn't work. Got in parking lot and worked for 1 call. Now it's out again. Wanted $150 for new phone, haven't done it yet. don't know what to do.
