Recording with audio interface FCA 202 Behringer

Recording from mixing board through audio interface and was wondering how to record new track and listen to the other tracks at same time to play to? I know I want to use headphones but where do I plug headphones into? tried coming off of computer and did not work. Could come off of audio interface but that would probley give me just my sound going to the computer. Not quite sure of the signal pattern I need to set up?... Do I patch another cable out of the interface to the board and listen with headphones off the board. Not sure if the audio interface works in 2 diffrent directions at once thru the firewire cable..

You choose the output in Garageband > Preferences > Audio Midi. Just choose built in output and monitor from your mac.
If you return audio from the interface back to the mixer you could monitor from the mixer. Also monitoring playback along with a dry input will insure zero latency.

  • My firewire port works with ext hd but not with audio interface

2010 Imac 21.5 running 10.8.5. My firewire port works with ext hd but not with audio interface. The local authorized Apple tech said that I need a new motherboard, but my firewire ext drive works perfectly. I don't understand. Thanks.

You must go to the website of the audio interface manufacturer and look for, download and install updated drivers for the audio device you are using.
This is not, neccessarily, an Apple issue.

  • Bug report: Quicktime Audio recording with multichannel interfaces

I have problems recording audio in Quicktime using a multichannel audio interface. I tried two firewire interfaces, an Apogee Ensemble and the RME Fireface. Both are supported by core audio and work as expected with any audio sequencer such as Garage band, Logic, Studio One etc. However, both show the same strange behavior in Quicktime 10.2 and as well in iMovie and FCPx:
First, i selected interface channels 1 / 2 in the audio-midi-settings window as the stereo input source. In the quicktime audio recording window, I select the audio interface (fireface or ensemble) as the audio source. I expected that the recorded audio would be stereo. However, regardless of these settings, the recording is always mono. Actually quicktime records only channel 1 and ignores all other channels. This might be a bug in Quicktime with regard to the handling of multichannel interfaces. The same bug occurs in Final Cut Pro X and iMovie, which seem to use the same audio engine as Quicktime. However, Garage band and Logic do not show the problem.
It does also not seem to occur with simple stereo interfaces. I tried a Logitech C920 webcam with a built-in stereo microphone and a Zoom Q2HD recorder used in stereo USB microphone mode. In both cases, the recordings in FCPx are 2 channel stereo as it should be. Thus the problem is specific for multichannel interfaces.
Can anybody reproduce or explain this behaviour?
I am using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), MacBook Pro 15 Retina 2.3 GHz.
    Regards, Werner

It seems that apple has reacted to this bug report without notice. Recently I tried it once more with quicktime and an apogee ensemble interface. Surprisingly, the problem did not occur anymore. I have not tested it with iMovie and FCPX yet.
The sad side of Apples support strategy is that I spent time and money searching for a workaround without knowing that Apple had removed the bug in the meantime.

  • New macbooks incompatibility with audio interfaces because of firewire lack

    Hello,
I am a sound engineer and I use my macbook to record music with external audio interfaces such as the digi002 and the digi003 by Digidesign and with the related Pro Tools software which, as you probably know, is the best software for audio recording and is known as the worldwide standard for it.
As my actual macbook is now 4 years old, I was impatiently waiting for the macbook update but I was really astonished when I've seen that apple decided to delete the firewire port on the new model.
This bizarre choice makes the new model incompatible with all the professional audio cards by Digidesign avoiding the use of Pro Tools on these notebooks and forcing me and my colleagues to switch to pcs (or to macbooks pro, if you can afford spending more than the double...).
Can I (we) hope in a sort of new update reintegrating the firewire port which, I say it once again, is fundamental for us in order to continue using macbooks in our job as sound engineers?
    Thanks,
    Sincerely,
    Francesco

The subject has been covered here in multiple threads already. The best way to submit feedback to Apple is through this web page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
Whether Apple will ever decide to add Firewire ports back to the MacBook is unknown. Personally I doubt it, but we can hope.

  • Massive problem with audio interface

    Hi there.
I recently bought a brandnew iMac 27" Haswell i7. I encountered problems with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface. These are buzzing, clicking and noise immediately or after 3 minutes or so. I tried everything, re-installed the driveres several times, nothing, really nothing worked.
Then I bought an RME Babyface audio interface - and guess what? It's the same problem. I also have a massive sound noise after some minutes or the recording channel in Garage Band drops completely.
What is wrong here? I already tried using a different power plug, tried all USB ports, turned off WiFi, HDD sleep mode, etc. Nothing worked.
    Do you have an idea?
    I appeciate your help,
    Adrian.

same problem with my imac late 2012 27" 3.2ghz i5 and the motu ultrilite. up to now i have no solution for this problem. the worst i can't use them never before. since from the first day. i attempt  everything. from re-install to fresh install. resetting the nvram and pram. formatting the hd and make a fresh install from the operating system. using balanced audio cables and so on...but same problem all time. even my technological knowledge and know how which i have as electrical engineer couldn't help me. first i was lucky to have apple care in those situations. after get back the imac from the service provider i sadly decide nothing has changed. and they would told me it runs all fine. in meantime i testing my ni audio dj8 over usb. it's similar with the ultralite because the buzzing, clicking and noise is not so extrem as it is on ultralite. but it's here.
the curios with my macbook pro and my old imac early 2008 it runs and works fine without problems. for next week i have fixed a new date by the service provider. but then with my intercace, monitors to simulate this error and i hope they find the reason. perhaps i can tell you some news or solutions next week. i'm relly curious about it.

  • Get a better performance with audio interface?

    Hi all.
I got a silly question. I run Logic 7 on a Powerbook G4 12" with 1.33 Ghz and (only) 768 Mb RAM and a (hard to built in) 160 Gb Harddrive.
After having often the "Disk is too slow..." message I was thinking about buying a external audio interface (presonus firebox).
My simple question is: does an external audio interface give Logic (or CoreAudio) more free DSP-Power? So that maybe I got a better performance? Or do I need to get something like a TC Powercore Firewire?
An answer would be great ... otherwise I have to sell my nice and small 12incher and buy an Intelbook ...
    Thanks. Frank.
    Powerbook G4 12" 1.33 Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.8)

A new audio interface won't help.
You should start by getting an external 7200 RPM Firewire drive to put your audio on. That right there will help, especially with higher track counts.
Secondly, get more RAM. 768 of RAM is borderline for Logic. I always recommend at least 1 gig. Go ahead and max out that Powerbook to 2 gig of RAM, if you can.
All that to say, an Intel mac would be a huge improvement over the Powerbook. And if you do go that route, still get an external FW drive for audio, and as much RAM as you can afford.

  • Update of 10.4.9 not compatable with audio interface

the update of 10.4.9 from 10.4.8 made my audio interface (m-audio 410 firewire) undetectable. is it a good idea to reistall the original software into my macbook? how does this effect my software (logic pro 7, iomega harddrive)? should i remove my software first?
    any recommendations greatly appreciated

After going through this another hour I was able to get it to the login screen and now my websites are back up. At this point I am afraid to fully login.
What worked, not sure if it had anything to do with it was I was able to hold down option and then select the second drive. It then either rebooted like it was supposed to or it did the same thing and died and reboot, hard to tell actually.
Is there cases of the drive volumes getting changed or something like this? I was counting the last 10 restarts, between 5 and 15 seconds before it rebooted. Usually it didn't seem like it had any time for the OS booting to get started.
please help if you have seen this if there is anything I should do?
For the time being while it is up, I am going to update my new server, my second server and set it up.
    thanks.

  • Mainstage not working with audio interface

    Hi,
I'm having problems in using Mainstage with my audio interface, a Tascam US-600.
Mainstage does not receive any input signals when I connect a microphone or a guitar into the Tascam and use it with Mainstage. I selected the audio interface as audio input and tried with all the inputs (from 1 to 6) that the channel strip let me select. For the audio output, when I select the built-in output I can not hear nothing; when I select the Tascam outputs, I can hear just the NON-PROCESSED sounds.
I don't know what to do, because I realized these other facts:
         - Mainstage works with a MIDI device directly connected to the Mac with a MIDI-USB cable;
         - The Tascam, as written above, receive the input signals. Using it with GarageBand it gives me no problems, with the same instruments (both                microphones, guitars and the audio interface) and connections!
         - Also if it gives me problems with feedbacks and noises, the built-in microphone seems to work with Mainstage - at least MS recognise input signals.
Thanks in advance for your answers and sorry for my English if it's not so smooth.

Is it possible to send through a audio interface a click track to the drummer headphones and the rest of the tracks to the PA´s?. We need that to live performance, so de click track not to be listened by de audience
I know thats possible with other software but I´m using GB and I wonder if it´s also possible with it.

you would need to pan the click track to one side (e.g. left) and everything else to the other side (e.g. right)
    GB only offers two channel-OUT

  • Trouble with audio interface (E-MU 0404) on OS X Lion

After I install "OS X Lion" from "Mac App Store" system can't find my audio interface ("Creative E-MU 0404 USB"), I see Audio Card in System Profiler, but it doesn't apear in "System Preference - Audio".
Also, "Creative Proffessional Software" doesn't run under Lion, because it's a "PowerPC" application, but I install update from June, 2010.
Is it possible that driver was written for "PPC", and now "Lion" doesn't support it, and what should I do?

Quite frankly, having to switch to 32-bit mode, to use My 0404 Audio interface, that is btw still being sold alongside competitor interfaces in the same price range (From Cakewalk, Tascam etc. etc.), that have OS X Lion (or at least intel native) drivers that allow their cards to be used with maximum efficiency, is completely unacceptable.
I wrote the tech support, and (like everyone else I've heard about) I got a copy/paste answer, saying that the tech-supporters in E-MU had no idea what the plans of the development team were, in regards to updating the drivers for the E-MU 0404.
Here's the reply I got from them, when I tried to get some clarity on all of this:
           Thomas,
We are sorry to inform you at this time Technical Support has not been informed by product development, as to when
OSX Lion drivers will be available. Technical support is not the place where E-MU discusses or discloses upcoming
product development or non released features and functions. That is done via marketing, usually through an official
press release, and usually done at a trade show event and/or posted on our website.
Please remember the more information you provide, including previous correspondence in your mail, helps in troubleshooting and solving the problem you are experiencing.
    Thank You
    Casey
    EMU Systems
Don't forget to check out http://www.EMU.com for your latest drivers, and updates, and EMU Products. E-MU is now featured on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/user/EMUsupport and FaceBook: http://www.facebook.com/EMUSystems
and I don't blame the tech-support. The entire thing has been thrown on their shoulders, as E-MU seemingly couldn't give enough of a !#€% to even update them about the situation.
I suppose this problem could have been averted a loooooooong time ago, by simply updating the drivers for the unit, when Apple went Intel (I suppose the 0404 is pre 2005, when Apple changed to Intel Architecture? If not, this is even more of an outrage).
As many others, the fact that the drivers were PPC and not Intel makes me wonder if I've been running the interface all this time, with un-needed latency.
This is definitely the last time I buy anything from E-MU, or Creative for that matter.

  • How to Hear Metronome in Headphones While Recording Through Audio Interface - Help!

    Hey everybody,
So I've been trying to work through this problem for 3+ hours now and I'm stumped. It's very frustrating as it is such a simple problem. Right now I'm recording acoustic guitar through an audio interface - guitar sound goes to microphone, microphone goes to interface, interface goes to audio jack in Macbook. Pretty simple setup. I can even insert a splitter into the audio jack on the Macbook which will allow me to hear what I am playing through the interface in my headphones, which is what I wanted. However, when I hit record and the metronome starts playing, as I want it to, I can't get the metronome to play through my headphones - they will only play through the speakers. How can I get around this? Is it even possible, or do I need an audio to USB interface so I can have a set audio in (through the USB) and a set audio out (through the audio port)? Again, your help would be much appreciated as I am completely stumped.
    Cheers!

In Logic Pro 9 (and X) you can assign different devices to the In- and Output, so I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to get sound in through the microphone and out through the headphones. You can even combine the ouputs into a Multi-Output device to send the same sound simultaneously to all outputs.
You can also aggregate all your in- and outputs into an Aggregate Device, then you can use any of your outputs and any of your inputs inside the same Logic project (on the channel strips).
Setup in Audio MIDI Setup (separate app, part of any OS X install, can be found in the Applications>Utilities folder)
Setup in Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio>Devices (apart from colorscheme, it's the same in LP 9 and LP X)

  • Recording with audio playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into real time?

Ive recorded a test video with audio/music playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into "real" time?
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 50% I would make the video 100% faster.
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 100% I would make the video 200% faster.
So its obviously somewhere inbetween speeding up by 100-200%
Sorry but its melting my brain today and I cant remember the calculation.
    thanks

    hey all
Thanks for the advise on this. I will explain a little more what am have/am intending to do.
I have used Audacity to slow the song down (Effect>Change Tempo)
Audacity will allow me slow the original song down by up to 99% (Or anything in-between up to 3 decimal places)
Unfortunately I am working to a time restraint of 12 minutes per clip (as my DSLR will only allow up to a 12 minute clip).
The song at normal speed is 4 minutes long.
Originally I slowed the audio down by 50% (Making the audio 8 minutes long), lip synced to it using a rasta blaster and recorded the video using my DSLR at 720p 50fps.
I then imported the video and audio I had been lip syncing to into FCPX.
I sped up the video by x2 (equivalent to speeding it up 200%)
    Retime>Fast 2X
Layered the PROPER normal speed audio back over the top and all was fine.
    Test video complete.
(You can ignore the 65% slowed down audio I mentioned earlier if you like, that was just an example of a slower than 50% audio test)
Firstly what I really want to do is to be able to slow the AUDIO down as much as possible (But still within the restraints of only being able to adjust FCPX retiming within a whole 1 percentage in the final video edit), but have the AUDIO of the song as near to/under 12 minutes as possible.
I will then re-record the video again to this new slowed down audio.
Secondly I will speed up the video from 12 minutes to 4 minutes.
Thirdly I will layer the correct 100% Normal AUDIO on top.
The FINISHED video should then look like everyone is wizzing around at high speed but the guitar playing/lyrics look like they are being played/sung at the normal speed.
Whatever happens (due to the constraints of FCPX) I need the calculations to work so that FCPX is retimed exactly to a whole 1% for the final video to sync up correctly.
So what I need to know in a nut shell is:-
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage to slow a 4 minute song down to a 12 minute song?
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage of how much I need to then speed the 12 minute video up to turn it back into a 4 minute video?
    My mind is melting

On both computers I have only one account, the fw cable is always the same..
I have purchased a new cable and I'm testing it..
Another thing to say is that the fw port number 2 is generally working better than 1.. I mean, while port 1 never loads my tascam (the computer firewire connection is always loaded succesfully on both ports) port 2 sometimes works.. well this can't be called stability at all =)
Sometimes reastarting computer, unplugging cables etc can help starting succesfully a new session.. I've already resetted PMU but no progress..
All these things don't last longer than one session..
