Recover a Catalog after Reinstalling PE11

I just added a SSD drive to my computer and reloaded all software including Windows 7 and Photoshop Elements 11 onto this new system drive.  I did not make a separate backup of the Organizer Catalog beforehand, however the catalog is stil on the hard drive, now to be used as a data drive.  How can I recover this catalog?

See if the following help document helps...

  • Can't use tags for the whole catalog after reinstalling PSE9

I had to reinstall Windows 7 (64-bit) and PSE9, and I obtained my PSE catalog from a backup.  Now each folder appears in the Organizer by itself, and I must click on a folder in the folder tree to see its contents or to search for faces using my tags.  Formerly, I could scroll up and down through the folder list and use the tags to search the entire catalog.  How can I recover that former ability?  Thanks.  Richard H. Brian,
Thanks for your suggestion.  However, I was using PSE9 before I had to reinstall Windows 7, and that version of PSE was able to do what I described above.  So after Memorial Day weekend I'll  try creating a New Catalog, importing all my pictures into it, and see if that returns me to my former Edenic condition in PSE!

  • Is it possible to recover erased information after reinstalling os x lion if I haven't made any backups?

We were having some problems with our iMac not starting so I searched the Internet and found That I needed to reinstall os x lion to fix the problem. Before reinstalling the program, I tried the Disc utility option to see if that would fix the problem. It said there was an error and I deleted the disc thinking that it was my external hard drive and not my computers hard drive. I then reinstalled os x lion only to discover all my files were deleted. Is there anyway I can get my stuff back? Obviously I am not great with computers and I thought my computer automatically made backups, so I never made any backups. Please help

hew, some may be recovered, but...
It may be possible to recover some erased ones, but you must quit using the Computer immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.

  • How do I recover iMessage transcripts after reinstalling?

So, I reinstalled Mountain Lion, but when I set up iMessage, my chats were gone. Signing in and sending a message was not enough to get the old messages. I have them on my iPhone, but not on my Mac. They don't seem to be in the usual spot on the hard drive either. It'd mean a lot to be able to get them on my laptop. They weren't at the Library/Messages/Archives in the laptop or the time machine backup.

You can only restore the whole message database, not individual messages or conversations. This procedure will replace the database with an earlier version, so you'll lose all later changes.
Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. A folder window will open. Restore the subfolder named "Messages" from a backup that predates the unwanted changes, then log out and log back in.
If you don't have a backup, the archive can't be restored.

  • How to recover title styles after reinstalling?

I recently reimaged my computer in hopes of reducing crashes with FCPX.  That seemed to work but I've lost all of the title styles on work from the past year.  I believe I have the same fonts installed.  The titles may have been associated with styles I created and saved so maybe the styles are gone for good.  I assumed they would have some reference to fonts and size still available.  I exported the xml to have a read and can see no references to styles or fonts anywhere.  Any one have any insights?  Thanks.

Open the Previous Systems folder, find his home folder, drag it to the desktop, click Authenticate, provide an administrator password, go through the folder on the desktop for the files you want to keep, and throw the rest away.

  • Is it possible to recover files after reinstalling my whole Mac OS X?

I recently reinstalled my whole Mac OS X in my new iMac. But I realized I forgot to backup some files (my Pictures folder!).
Is there a way I can recover those files? When I reinstalled the software (using the DVD's the iMac came with) I used the option erase and install (I don't remember exactly what it said but it was the complete reinstallation option.
    Thank you.

It could be - remember that a folder is really just a special kind of file. The files within it are just additional files, linked to it as contents in the file allocation table. And all of them are not necessarily kept as a discreet contiguous chunk of data on the hard disc. So yes, it is possible that the folder itself is fine, but the files within it are not.
Or, as mentioned, it could be something else, like permissions, or a corrupted iPhoto database, or who knows?
Did you look at the DR3 FAQ? Does it make any sense to you, given whatever was displayed while the recovery software was running?
    DR3 online FAQ entry:
I recovered files, but they won’t open. What’s wrong?
The answer to this question depends on whether you’re talking about files recovered from under the “CBR” folder, or other ones.
Files recovered by catalog (i.e. Not from the CBR folder)
It's normal for a small percentage of recovered files to be bad. But if you have checked a number of them and none of them are good, then chances are that they were recovered with wrong ABL setting. Pick out a few files to use as test files, and go back and select a different ABL choice (Expert>Allocation Blocks Layout..menu) and recover and test those few. If you find an ABL setting that gives good results on those files, re-do your big recovery with that setting. For more information, read the material on Allocation Block Layout in section 8.2.1 of the Data Rescue 3 Users Guide.
Files recovered by content (i.e. from the CBR folder)
It's also normal for a small percentage of these files to be bad. If the original file was fragmented (not stored on disk in consecutive blocks), then it can not be properly recovered by content. In most normal situations, most files on a user's disk will not be fragmented. Typical fragmentation rates for files tend to be just a few percent.
Note: The ABL setting plays No role in recovering files under the CBR folder.

  • I need help to recover/relink mail after archive and install

I am helping my friend fix her 15" G4 PowerBook after memory failures caused many crashes. There was no recovering short of a reinstall via "archive and install". All that worked great, but now Mail doesn't recognize the accounts, mailboxes, signatures, etc. that are still located in the user/library/mail folder.
What's up with that? I can't figure out how to relink Mail to this stuff.
    Here's more detail:
    1) After lots of prior debugging (Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, Apple Hardware Test, single-user commands per Apple tech notes), I did the A&I to 10.3.4 from the original disks.
    2) Per Dr. Smoke and The X Lab, I ran the 10.3.9 combo installer right away so that the "older" system would not get confused by the "newer" stuff in the Previous Systems folder.
    3) I Launched Mail and it started anew, i.e. didn't recognize accounts and wanted to start over.
    Thanks for any help.

The account settings are stored in HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. It looks like that file became corrupt -- maybe its permissions went awry (Disk Utility cannot fix that) and Mail just deleted the file to create a new one.
If your friend doesn't have a backup copy of that file, just set up the accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in HOME/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it's enabled.

  • IPhoto Library won't load after reinstalling Mac OSX

I have reinstalled mac i was having some problems and i am a newbie in mac so i tought a clean install would be good at that point
After reinstalling i had my user folder backed up i moved the files back to their original place, and organized everything because it was messy, and then started a timemachine backup on an external drive
    so in short:
    i reinstalled mac
restored my iPhoto Library to the Pictures folder
Updated everything to the latest version ( since the photo library was created with the latest version )
when i tried to open iphoto it stayed reloading for an hour then i gave up and searched online
my pictures are all there i can copy them and start a new library but that is not what i want
i want my events as i sorted them i want my faces as i sorted them i spent a lot of time making these pictures as they were
    please help
    Things i already tried:
    vacuuming the *.db sqlite files
removing the faces.db so that if the faces are the problem i would know
    tried removing all *.db files
tried to import my photos to a new library but that is not what i want
right now i have 2 libraries, a new one wih ****** event names
and the old one that is corrupt

Using your original library try the following:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How to import catalog when reinstall V

My computer crashed but the information was saved.  After my computer was working again I reinstalled PSEV9 but do not know how to import the old catalog into reinstalled program.  I can find the path to my old catalog on the saved files.  I tried the 'restore catalog' under the file menu but I could not get it to work.   Thanks, Wayne

You transfer the catalog file (actually the entire folder that contains the catalog file, along with subfolders) to your new computer.
You transfer your photos to the new computer, if possible, to the exact same location they were in on the old computer (i.e. if they were stored in c:\my photos on the old computer, then put them in c:\my photos on the new computer)
Then comes the hard part. You double-click on the catalog file. That's it

  • Keeping my playcount after reinstalling?

    Hey.
All since I got my Ipod I have used this program (2 years).
A while ago my computer freaked out, and I had to reinstall everything. Instead of that I reinstalled everything on my Master Harddrive and moved Itunes to my Slave Harddrive. That messed something up.
Later I got a new pc, and again I moved around with my Itunes folder.
Now it tells me that I have to reinstall Itunes to make it work properly. That's fine with me, but it's here my question for you is:
Itunes show you how many times you have listened to a song. I still want to see how many times I have played the song after reinstalling it. Do you know how I can do this?
And will I have to add all the songs to the libary again? Or will Itunes do this automatically?
    Thanks in advance.

Reinstalling the iTunes program should not affect your playcounts.
The information about playcounts, ratings and other information about you music is held in a database called: iTunes Library.itl
It is normally located in the iTunes folder. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
If you are worried about losing your library file you can make a backup copy:
Close iTunes and waid about 30 seconds.
Copy iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml somewhere else e.g. into the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
To restore, drag the current itl and xml file from the iTunes folder to the desktop, then copy the backup iTunes Library.itl into the iTunes folder. The xml file isn’t necessary but can come in handy if the library needs to be recreated and the itl file is causing problems.
If you have lost information in your library it may be possible to recover it from a backup copy made when you last upgraded iTunes, ask again if you need help with that.

  • ILife reinstall after reinstall of OS Lion

I bought a new macbook pro in December it came with OS Lion. Due to an error in setup I needed to reinstall the OS. Installing from the recover disk was too slow so I bought the OS and created a bootable install disk. Is there a way for me to reinstall the ilife programs that came preinstalled on my computer without needing to purchase them?

I know with my Mac Mini after reinstalling Lion using the Internet Recovery, I logged into the App Store with my Apple ID and under Purchases, my iLife apps (iMovie, GarageBand, iPhoto) were available to reinstall.
Look under Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion in this link.

  • How to recover 10.6 after getting mangled by CoreAudio

hi- about two days ago i experienced a sever system crash- i was trying to install the CoreAudio drivers to use Virtual DJ and messed up most of OS X. i could boot properly but almost nothing worked, including iTunes, FInder, Chrome, Safari, and so on. i tried debugging for a while (deleting the drivers, reinstalling chrome, running disc utility, running onyx, so on) with no results so i reinstalled osx and that has brought be this far. at this point most of the system has recovered except for two (maybe three) things. one is that disc utility still shows inconsistencies in the permissions of many of my system files. it also fails to fix any of them. onyx does the same. also my internet protocols have been effected. chrome has become unusable to a cue- crashing pretty consistantly and demonstrating this unstability. safari doesnt even load my homepage without freezing, forcing me to force close it. skype is also very unstable, and firefox does not run either.
if anyone knows how to recover 10.6 after getting mangled by CoreAudio, please help. tnx.

Ignore the disk utility repair permissions.  Stuff is always reported.  Scan over this.
The fact that your internet related apps aren't working implies that you should look at your network system preferences.  Are you using ethernet or wireless?  Are you using default DNS servers or something like the OpenDNS servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220)?  DHCP?  Is there a green dot next to the connection type you are using?

  • Playlists after reinstall

    Hi all,
Having a bit of confusion with iTunes after reinstalling from a hard drive problem.
All of my music and iTunes library files are stored on E:\Music
Replaced C:\ drive, reinstalled Windows 7x64 and reinstalled iTunes 11
I got iTunes pointed to the iTunes Library database by using the "Shift + Launch iTunes" trick.
iTunes sees about half of my music, 6194 of over 11,000 songs.  It's also not showing any playlists.
Any tips on repairing this would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

"+Seems odd that by backing up the complete iTunes folder you lose the playlists ?+"
Maybe not. Performing a backup is step one. You need to +properly restore+ the data to completely recreate your Library. Not sure you did that based on your post.
I have never failed to recover my Library with my backups. I have tested the restore process several different ways while developing 'fixes' for folks who post here, and just testing general theory for my own understanding.
This is what I would have done in your place after a HD reformat:
    1) Reinstall iTunes (usually the exact same version as before)
    2) Copy the music Folders\Files back onto the PC into the exact same path (drive and folder structure) as before
    3) Deleted the 'current' (and blank) Library Database files located in the main 'iTunes' folder
    4) Copy the 'full' Library Database files into their place (these are the backed-up files from your 'running' Library)
    5) Open iTunes and have the exact same Library as prior to the reformat
    6) Update iTunes to a later version (if applicable)
My suspicion is that you did not perform steps 3 & 4, but I could be wrong. You should have all you need to bring your Library back to a 'pre-reformat' condition. We just need to figure out what steps you need to implement...
Post back with where you are in the recovery.
    Best of Luck
