Recover and fix deleted quicktime movie files?

i accidently deleted several quicktime movies. can i recover and repair these files?

If you truly deleted the files and emptied the Windows Recycle Bin, the only way you'd have to recover the files (presuming you don't have a backup somewhere) would be with a Windows disk/file recovery tool. There are several in existence, but not having had a need for one, I can't make a recommendation, though none of the are 100% guaranteed to be able to recover your files. Note that the more you use your system, the lower the chances will be of being able to recover any of those files.
As to "repair", let's worry about that if and when you can recover the videos.
Good luck.

  • QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

  • HT3775 my mac wont play a quicktime movie file, it keeps saying i need a codec and then bringing me to this page. there is no links on where to get this codec? help!!!

I try play this quicktime movie file and then it says i do not have the required codec and the only thing i can press is "ok" or "tell me more" and then it just brings me to this page, it says nothing about how to obtain this certain codec. I need this to work on my macbook! Its not the video file because it works perfectly fine on the iMacs at University. Help me out, please!

Quicktime has it's limitations and can't, natively, play certain video formats.
Try VLC.  It should be able to play anything you throw at it.

  • Songs show up as "QuickTime movie file" and won't share or sync

I have a few mp3 audio files in iTunes that aren't being transferred to my iPod (3G) and aren't showing up when I share my iTunes library to another computer, and I can't figure out why.
The filenames have ".mp3" extensions. When I do a 'Get Info' on them in the Finder, they're identified as "MP3 Audio File". Running 'file' on them from a Terminal window says "MP3 file with ID3 version 2.2.0 tag". They play just fine in iTunes as well as in QuickTime Player.
But when I do a 'Get Info' on them from within iTunes, iTunes says each one is a "QuickTime movie file". And when I access this computer's shared music from iTunes on another computer on my network, everything shows up except these tracks; and when I sync my iPod, everything shows up except these tracks. I don't get any error messages.
Why does iTunes think these songs are movie files, and how do I correct it?

  • Help I can't delete a .mov file, because it is in use

Hi I my mac will not delete a quicktime .mov file because it apparently is in use. I don't know where it is in use, because I deleted the imovies it was in and I have no open windows of it on my computer. I am thinking it might still be uploading to youtube, but I thought I canceled that upload because I accidentally started to upload the same file again. However when I go to youtube it does not say the video has been uploaded again, so I don't know where the file is in use at. Does anyone know how to get rid of the file, or find where the file is in use?

I fixed it! The .mov was in a temporary (something) imovie folder, so I took the .mov out of the trash then emptied it. By emptying it I got rid of the folder that the .mov was in. Then I put the .mov back in the trash and then I was able to empty it. The temporary something imovie folder was using the .mov for some reason.

  • I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore

I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore from an HDV camera that play on other macs and play in vlc. It happened all of a sudden. Files that I could play before no longer play. It seems to be something wrong with the quicktime codec management because the files do not play in premiere and final cut pro. In FCP it says: File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. These files work on other computers. I have four drives and it doesnt matter which file i attempt to open on each drive, these files are unreadable on this system. Please help. Possible issues might be a corrupted index, but i dont understand how that can go across four different drives.

Apple kindly updated Quicktime and rendered Firestore files unplayable. I think a recent update of iTunes was the culprit.
Solutions: What I did. Wipe the system disc. Re-install Snow Leopard. Re-install FCP7. Don't update Quicktime or iTunes to anything after Jun 2011. QT v7.6.6 is the last good version. That'll get your files back.
A colleague tried a different approach. For this you need a pre-July 2011 version of the file QuickTimeComponents.component.  It is in the system/library/QuickTime folder. Delete your current one and drop in an old one.
However if you're working with Final Cut X, I think you screwed until Focus and Apple work something out. My address is on my contacts page at teevideousadotcom if you need any further help.

  • How to play quicktime .mov files on iphone

I would like to be able to play quicktime (.mov) files on my iphone4s but I get a message that my file cannot be played on this iphone.
I created the file in keynote, exported it to a quicktime movie with the manual advance option.
My goal is to be able to use iphone to connect to a projector with a iphone to vga adapter and thus project my presentations from the iphone.
But I cannot import import it using itunes to the iphone.
Wondering if there is an app that plays quick time movies or some other option.
The reason I cannot export from keynote is that it does not give the option for manual advance.
It only provides a fixed time option.
    Appreciate any help
    thank you

  • Password required to delete or move files in Mavericks - permissions

I have the problem  where when I try to delete or move files, I get asked for a password.  I've read the various old threads on this problem, and tried the following fixes:
    Using Disk Utility, repaired permissions
Booting into the passwork reset utility (holding cmd-R on startup), and resetting permissions
    Changing the permission on .Trash
    None of this worked.
I began exploring the permissions on my files and on all of them, info reported that the file permissions were generally set as:
    everyone - Custom
    (Me) - Read & Write
    staff - Read only
Sometimes there was an additional entry of  everyone - Read & Write
In reading about permissions, I couldn't figure out what that "Custom" meant.  If I did an ls -l on that file, I got -rw-r--rw-@
I have found that if I reset the permission for everyone to Read only, and make that Custom privilege go away, the passwork requirements for that file also go away.  If I use the Info panel, if there is a second everyone entry, I have to remove that by setting it to No Access.  Only then can I change the upper everyone privilege from custom to Read only.  But that fixes the problem for that file.
So, here's my ask.  How do I do this over all my files?  Executing CHMOD 744 (filename) does not remove the everyone - Custom privilege, and thus doesn't fix the problem.

As I've explored this further, it's apparent that this is an ACL problem, where the everyone deny delete ACL permission is being set. (Not sure of the right terminology here.) This can be cleared with the command:  chmod -N (filename)
For some reason, this has propagated throughout my file system, creating havoc in applications.  Dropbox won't update because the files can not be changed, bookmarks in Safari can't be removed, etc. I've fixed the application problems for now with chmod -R -N ~/Library but there's no telling what other damage I may have done by removing all the ACL permissions from all those files.
The question I'm chasing now is what is changing the ACL's on these files.  It appears that the ACL settings are inherited from the folder, but when I check the folder properties with Get Info, I don't find anything.  What am I missing?

  • How do i export a sequence to an uncompressed quicktime .mov file?

    hello everyone.
    I have a little problem.
I have a 20 secs sequence that needs to be exported from my FCP 6.0.3 to UNCOMPRESSED quicktime .mov file. Its HDV footage.
These are the steps I've taken.
I go to FILE>EXPORT>QUICK TIME MOVIE. I have all the settings to current setting, and I have checked the "Make Movie Self-Contained" option.
When I'm done exporting, I get a .mov file, but its a Final Cut Pro file, not a quicktime file.
This means I can't open in a PC, where I have to do some compositing.
I would really appreciate if anyone can give me some advise or tips on how to get my export .mov file to be a quicktime file uncompressed .
    Thanks
    -r

The Uncompressed 4:2:2 codecs only come with Final Cut Pro. Two ways:
    1) In FCP, go to File > Export > QuickTime Conversion. Set format to QuickTime Movie and click Options. Go to Settings under Video and set Compression Type to None. Put all the sliders at maximum. Click Ok, deselect Prepare for Internet Streaming and click Ok. Export the file.
    2) This is the one I personally prefer, as it will be compatible with any system, even if they don't have QuickTime. Go to File > Export > QuickTime Conversion. Under Format, select Image Sequence. Go to Options, set Format to TIFF and enter the FPS. Click Export and you will have a series of sequentially-numbered images that most compositing apps will treat like one big movie clip.

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • Combine QuickTime-mov files

I have QuickTime pro and so I can combine Quicktime mov-files. It is however
rather time-consuming so that adding small films for example twenty is
a work of long duration. Is there an alternative?

I was experimenting on different formats (they are converted to mp4, m4v and mov files before uploading to Youtube) at the beginning before I settled on .mov files. My Macbook only have 80 gigs so I want to preserve all of the clips I did in DVDs before I erase them from the hard drive before importing/starting a new tape. All of them were captured using a Sony Digital 8 camcorder.

  • FCP Quicktime movie files not working with iDVD

I have been using iDVD for years with no issues. Now, whenever I export a QT file from FCP 7 and use it in iDVD, I get a blank screen with audio and no video.
I am able to work around the problem by using "Export Using Qucktime Conversion" and creating a smaller file, but I've never had to do that before. What in the world am I missing here? Shouldn't I be able to export as a QT movie, as long as the file is not gigantic? (the most recent one I used and had this problem occur was only about 500mb). Thanks for any help...
    Ben

    Hmmm,
Well this is helpful information but unfortunately didn't solve my problem. The movie in question is only 5 1/2 minutes long. When I export it as a QT movie, iDVD "acts" like everything is fine; I can preview it within iDVD, etc.But when I burn the disc, it comes out blank. I then went back to FCP and exported it using QT conversion, and the DVD burned just fine. (I exclusively use Taiyo Yuden media and have never had a bad disc).
This is just a simple 16:9 movie, shot at 720/30p on a Canon DSLR. I ingested with Log and Transfer using ProRes422, then dropped it onto the timeline, added a music track, rendered, and exported as Quicktime movie. It looks great on my desktop using the QT player, but it simply will not work in iDVD.  Still stuck here...

  • Can't open Quicktime .mov file (Error -2048)

I can't open and run an 11mb QuickTime .mov file that was created, I'm pretty sure, on a Mac. I'm using a PC running QuickTime 7.2. Colleagues using PCs with QuickTime 7.0 and 7.1 can't run it either. The guy who created the file apparently has no problem running it on a Mac. My full error measage is "Error -2048: Coundn't open the file because it is not a file that QuickTime understands". Any ideas anyone?

Ask the guy that made the file what codecs are used in it. Mac users can open, save and edit .wmv files and he may have put one inside a .mov container. It will never play on a PC unless saved as .wmv extension.
