Recover Application

Hi all,
Please help. I had an HTMLDB application running on my local PC (development was practically finished), but now had a harddisk crash. I only have a full Oracle database export of it (no HTML DB application export). Is it possible to recover this application, and if so what would be the steps? I am assuming the following should work:
1. Create Oracle DB on new instance
2. Create the required tablespaces
3. Perform a full Oracle import
4. Then perhaps install HTMLDB from Companion CD???
Anyone, please help !!
Regards
AdB

Colin,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, after two days' suffering, yesterday afternoon I eventually got it going again. After many many many trials and errors and frustrations, I realised how it should have happened. This is the short version:
1. Create a new database.
2. Create the tablespaces.
3. Install HTMLDB.
4. Unlock and remove all the schema objects from the Flows.... users.
5. Import the dump (full=y)
6. Test the app.
7. Re-import the application owner schema (ignore=y) because the first import did not import all the system level triggers.
The long version I do not want to repeat, we don't want anyone in tears. At least I've learnt some things and remembered some I've already forgotten. And I know that I can rely on a full database export.....

How to recover application that had an x on it. it was deleted from my dock

    Hi katana,
Go into your Finder under Applications:
Click on iPhoto to open it - it will go to your Dock. Click and hold down on the icon on the Dock, and you will see "Options". Click on that, and then select "Keep in Dock". Do the same with PhotoBooth. You should be all set!

  • Recovered Applications - Can I delete once moved?

My hard drive failed, and I was able to recover all of my data and the lovely helpdesk put my old files (including all my applications) into a folder called "recovered data". I then moved any applications that I needed to the applications folder on my harddrive and have been happily running well. Except that I'm wondering if I can now trash the applications that are in the recovered folder - some of which are "duplicates" of what are in the applications folder. I don't want to actually loose any of the programs, but I'm not sure how to check if they are not being used. Thanks.

Hi Gina, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
How are you opening the apps?
You might try cmd i on the app in the new folder to make sure it is not an alias linking back to "recovered."
You have learned you need to backup. Using a FWHD or ??? Can you move the "recovered data" some place while testing.
If Trash is behaving properly you could move "recovered data" to trash but do not empty. I include 'behaving properly' because there are topics about Trash instantaneously emptying.
    What is "helpdesk?" Data Recovery?
As I think about this, it occurs to me that there could be copy errors either in generating the recovered data off the failed HD or, less likely, in copying to the new apps folder. So the bottom line seems to be that the only way to know is to actually test them one by one.
Good Luck, Keep us posted. JP

  • How can i recover application that i have purchased in a different app store than the one i am using now ?

I Have purchased some apps from a different app store than the one i am using currently. Is it possible to recover them as i am not finding them in my list of purchases. Thx

If I create a new iTunes account for the German itunes store, what happened with my previous purchases? Do they remain on my iPhone and my Mac's iTunes?
Nothing will happen to your existing purchases. Your computer will remain authorized - you can authorize a single computer to up to five iTunes Store accounts - and the apps and content will remain in place.
Can I switch from one acount to the other every time I want to update an application or purchase a new one?
As long as you're in the relevant country, yes. Again, the terms of use say that you agree not to even attempt to use an iTunes Store from outside of its country.
    Regards.

  • RE: RECOVERING APPLICATIONS

    Hello everyone,
I've have recently updated my iTunes to version 10.1.
Prior to the update, i sync my 3G iPhone to my laptop
and had a complete back up of all my musics, videos and
    applications.
    My Problem now is:
After the iTunes update to 10.1, I sync my 3G iPhone back to
my laptop. I got shocked because all of my previous musics,
    videos and applications got lost.
What remains in my iTunes library and in my 3G iPhone are the
applications i purchased after i updated my iTunes to 10.1.
Is there any way to recover my applications (lots of them bought!!) back
in iTunes and then to my 3G iPhone?
If there is any way, please help me..I don't know what to do.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

You can download apps again at no extra charge provided you're using the same account they were bought on.

  • Recovering applications lost after choosing "clear menu"

To get rid of some documents I chose "clear menu" but it didn't expect to lose applications also listed. It was late and I was tired. Now I have question marks for Safari, Mail, and Microsoft Word and cannot use any of them. How do I get them back?
I think I was either in "Recent folders" or in "Yesterday" under "Go" in the Finder.
Help! I'm using my wife's iBook to post this question.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
*"I have question marks for Safari, Mail, and Microsoft Word and cannot use any of them"*
Do you mean there are ? marks in your Dock where the applications icon used to be? If so, just drag those ? marks off the Dock. Then go to your Applications folder and launch Safari. With Safari open, click the Safari icon in the Dock and then click; Keep In Dock. Do that for Mail and Microsoft Word also.
Hopefully you didn't delete the application from the hard drive. If you did you need to reinstall those apps.
Reinstalling applications that came with your Mac
If you delete an application that came with your Mac, and then need to reinstall it, try any of the following suggestions.
Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the package that installs bundled software or additional software. A package has an icon that looks like an opened box.
Follow the onscreen instructions. If you see a pane with a Customize button, click Customize and select the application you want to install. If you see a pane that lets you choose what to install, click the disclosure triangle beside Applications and select the application you want to install.
You will have to reinstall MWord from the install disk. Hopefully, that won't be necessary.

  • Files for Mail, other apps to recover from corrupt volume?

After HD corruption on my MacBook running 10.7.4 I need to restore Mail accounts for several users, complete with mailboxes and smart mailboxes. Would appreciate if anybody can help me identify and locate what I need to recover the Mail accounts.
Also, I'd like to recover application specific info such as SN, as well as preferences.

Thanks very much for your help guys. I appreciate it. unfortunately none of these commands worked for me. I kept getting error on clearing logs that redo log is needed to perform recovery so it can't be cleared. So I ended up restoring from earlier snapshot of my db volume. Database is now open.
Thanks again for your input. And now, as a follow-up, at a minimum you should make sure that all redo log groups have at least 3 members. Then, if you lose a single redo log file, all you have to do is shutdown the db and copy one of the good members (of the same group as the lost member) over the lost member.
And as an additional follow-up, if you value your data you will run in archivelog mode and take regular backups of the database and archivelogs. If you fail to do this you are saying that your data is not worth saving.

    Resolved ! :)
Root Cause: The user account I was using had all the required privileges for Exchange Installation but was not having access to edit the registry of the server. Enable access to registry edit tools and you are good to go.
As an alternate you can also try installing using Domain Administrator account if in case there is an IT Policy constraint in the former method.
    Thanks to all.

  • After finally completing  a clean install what is the BEST way to replace my data.

Please understand I moved from PC to Mac in Late 2011. Unlike windows where you have to know how it all works to use it, Mac is so simple I, to my own detriment , did not take the time to learn more than just my daily use. Been busy moving country and other crazy life stuff. I am rectifying this mistake. I did have issue with the clean install process working through with out interruption, some file issue, so had to repeat a few times.
    1. completed a clean install through to completion of set up, new account etc. Machine runs amazingly better. Completed updates. Knowing Migration Assistant can deal with duplicate user issues.
Q? Do I need to run disk repair or other.
    2. Thought myself ill equipped with knowledge and understanding to manually replace my data via finder. I simply do not know where things are supposed to go.
    3. Tried reinstall of everything thru set up but it installed everything including all the issues I had before. Went through clean install process again.
    4. With this in mind I am hesitant and very weary to use Migration Assistant to move everything back as I simply do Not know where the issue lies even if it allowed greater folder & file separation.
I have got to the stage where I am ready to recover my data which is on my backup external hard drive. The data was recovered using Time Machine.
I wish to do what is best for my machine. It is getting older and I wish to do what I can for its longevity.
Q? So what data is best recovered in which way and in what order.
    5. Is it best to say do recover applications from App Store and redo all updates if required.
Then install non app store apps, e.g. Microsoft office for mac, and others thru finder.
Users thru Migration assistant  etc etc.
Been learning and working on this since my last post. Lots of watching YouTube and reading for hours.
So much conflicting opinions and maybe this is due to my lack of specifics and most posts are for general use so I do understand.
Again thank you in advance. I still think Mac has it all over PC.

I read thru the data migration one below however wasn't sure of its applicability given it was from 09.
Re: 2. there seems to be data I have yet to bring across. How important it is I don't know. What exactly it is I also am yet to find out. Will proceed with the downloading n stuff.
Thank you for your help on this.

  • Problem updating IDS signatures

    I have a IDS-4215 sensor with version 5.1(5)E1S333V1.2
I tried several times updating signatures with next version on it but it doesnot get updated and only the local MC gets upgraded. I have other IDS sensors also but I dont have any problem updating signatures with them.
Why are the signatures not getting updated on this Sensor.
Help me with a solution. All helpful posts will be rated.

Did you try applying S355 directly to the sensor using the CLI or IDM rather than the MC?
Sometimes you don't get good error messages when trying to apply through the MC.
If you apply through CLI or IDM did you get any messages back from the sensor?
Did you get a success messgae? If doing it from the CLI did it come back to a CLI prompt?
If no error messages come back when trying the upgrade, then it will require looking at a "show tech" from your sensor to try and see what is going on.
You would not want to copy that output to this forum, so your best bet would be to open up a TAC case and provide them the output from when you tried applying the update through the CLI or IDM, as well as the output from the "show tech" taken immediately after the failed upgrade attempt.
I am not currently aware of any situation where the upgrade would fail without some type of error message being returned.
Here, however, are some common errors that should return an error message (I don't remember the exact wording of the error messages):
    1) sensorApp/analysis engine is Not Running
(you can check "show version" before doing the upgrade to make sure it is Running).
    2) sensorApp/analysis engine is not responding (you can do a "show stat vi" before trying the upgrade to ensure it is responding to statistic requests before trying the upgrade)
    3) license has expired (you can do a "show ver" and make sure the license has not expired)
    4) Signature Update already installed - This is a tricky one. This can happen when a previous attempt to update at that same signature level failed, but left some remnants around. The second attempt to install the same update detects the remains of the previous failure and incorrectly thinks that the update is already installed. There are 2 ways to recover from this. Save off the config, and do a recover-application command to re-image the sensor, then re-apply the config. Or wait till the next signature update S356 comes out and try it with the newer sig update. I haven't seen this problem in a long time, and I am not sure if it can happen anymore. Steps were taken to try and prevent this from happening.
    5) sensorApp/analysis engine could stop During the signature update - This can happen on lower end sensors like the IDS-4215 especially when tunings have been made to the signatures or custom signatures have been created. The low end sensors have limited memory. When a new signature update is applied the sensor has to compile the new signatures. If using the standard set of signatures with no user tunings, then the signature update should apply fine. But if the customer has made tunings and/or added custom signatures, then this compiling of the new signatures could push the sensor above it's allowed memory limits. The kernel will then kill sensorApp/analysis engine. The signature update will never complete (never get an error OR a success message). And the sensor has to be rebooted to get it working again. If you are running into this issue you might need to remove some of your tunings and custom signatures, apply the signature update, and then re-apply your tunings.

  • Original Photo Size Lost....Why? Where has my original library gone?

I have had some problem with my iphoto library. Whilst I have deleted anything, or atleast, nothing appears to be in TRASH, my mac now only shows iphoto libraries that have been created recently.
These recent libraries though, do include thousands of my original photos, however, they all appear to be a fraction of their original size. Photos are appearing to be around 25KB in size when they were original 1-2MB. This has happened to all photos except the photos i uploaded today. The problem with the pics I uploaded today, is that iphoto is only enabling me to view these when the slider is at the far left - i.e. small thumbnails only. When I pull the slider to the right, hit slideshow, or double click to enlarge on of these new photos, I am simply presented with a large, but blurey, explanation ("!") point.
I am praying my originally sized photos are not lost? Where is my original library? I am lost and stressed - and desperately hoping someone can assist me.
    Yours in need

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First the size of the photos you mentioned, 25KB, appear to be the thumbnails that iPhoto creates when importing into iPhoto. The "!" occurs when iPhoto loses the link to the original file. If you don't see any of the older image files that are greater than 25KB they probably have been deleted. However you can try the following just in case: run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
    1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
If the above doesn't find and restore those missing older image files and you don't have a backup of your library your only recourse is to use a file recover application like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage. It will let you run it in demo mode to determine if it can recover the files you need before you have to purchase.
In the future you might want to invest in an external HD for backups.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

We need to understand, How to bring back Sourcing App in the event of a failure?
We have sourcing app installed and do take regular OS back up.
Would like to understand how to recover application from the backed up OS files. Will there be any issues with Windows registry settings when we try for a recovery from backed up OS.

We need to understand, How to bring back Sourcing App in the event of a failure?
We have sourcing app installed and do take regular OS back up.
Would like to understand how to recover application from the backed up OS files. Will there be any issues with Windows registry settings when we try for a recovery from backed up OS.
In general - in case you are doing both OS backup (but this must be done including all binaries and other non-Windows related files except data files) and data backup then the restore would follow this logic - first restore of OS (including all files, binaries and registry) and then restore the data files.
In case you will not have binaries as part of this OS backup - then you will have to install new SAP system with same parameters (SID, hostname, ports, etc.) and then restore the data files.
For data backup there are many scenarios - it depends how the backup was taken - are you using RMAN? or just it is copy of data files? Depending on this the restore scenario would differ...
Another important point to note is that you will need backup log to perform the restore - so in case of total disaster scenario when the backup log is not in OS backup because data backup is younger - in such case you might need to directly access the backup using native tools to restore several key files before you will be able to use brrestore.
Bottom line: In any case you MUST be familiar with how to make restore. There is no possibility that you just guess you have it done correctly. In case of issue you might discover you missed something and it will be too late. You should run DRP in your customer - exercise where you are simulating total disaster on separate isolated server and your are trying to return the system back to operational status. As part of this exercise you you create documentation and prepare timing so that business will be aware about duration of outage.
    Tomas

  • Can't connect to ftp, app store or other servers

I am having trouble with my early 2009 24-inch iMac. Processor 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 8Gb 1067 Mhz DDR3, Storage 1Tb, OS X Yosemite 10.10 (14A389). I connect to the internet using PPPoE and a VDSL2 cable modem.
My problem is that my computer will not connect to many servers: the App store, my ftp servers, those required to register software such as Boom/2 and Opera, Firefox and Chrome browsers.
I am able to access email using mail and Safari, but that is all.
I have reinstalled OS X Yosemite 3 times and followed all the suggestions in the Apple "Cannot connect to the App Store" pages. I have checked my Network preferences carefully.
I am beginning to get a little desperate.

Thanks so much, Linc.  Here are the results:
