Recover "C" drive to factory default.

Hello All,
I have an HP Pavilion dv2700, orig OS was Win Vista, since upgraded to Win 7.  I need to use "WipeDrive" or something similar to erase the C partition then reboot from the recovery partition "D" to reinstall the orig factory settings and OS.  Can this be done after completely wiping/erasing the C partition?  I need to do this before turning the laptop over to a non-profit.
Thanks

Hi,
As I mentioned before, you should be OK to wipe the C Partition, but sometimes it can cause the Recovery Partition to fail to execute correctly - it will probably go smoothly, this is just something to bear in mind.
If you do find you need to, you can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

    Hi,
You can order a replacement set of recovery media from the HP Partner on the link below ( I've assumed from the Model No. that you live in the UK ).  These discs/flash drive will automatically read the windows product key embedded in the bios.

  • T500 Recovering to Factory Default.

I had a T500 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I ran the Recover system to factory set but it hung at some point during the process. I gave it a hard shutdown and when i restarted, it gave me a balck screen with /windows/system32/winload.exe missing or corrupt. It would not go beyond that point. I did not make the Recovery Disks before attempting this process. Later I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my system. I can still see the LENOVO_RECOVERY and the SYSTEM_DRV drives and the disk management shows them as Primary and Healthy.
Is it possible to go back to my factory default settings?

Locate and replace the corrupt file. You're jumping the gun doing a reinstall which wipes all your existing apps, configuration, & Data.
Fix it, if necessary get the file off another system. There are usually backups of major files in other areas of the drive.
Boot into safe mode if you're able.
    Run SFC /scannow

  • Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default. Refurbished Acer Iconia W3-810

This tablet was purchased refurbished.  As soon as I got it, I went to create my backup and message is "Hard drive configuration is not set to the factory default.  Backup aborted.  I had already sent it in once to the seller for repair services and it was sent back not repaired.  They now say I can send it in again but seems a waste of time.  I called Acer and they said I would need to purchase the recovery disk which should have already been provided to me.  It does have a valid SNID number.  I checked.   If there is anyone else who came up against this problem, I would love to know what you did to resolve it.  Second problem.  Large font had been created where is overscans the entire page so reading the Control Panel is impossible.  The warranty dept created a new user account with new settings as they were unable to fix the font problem so they ignored it.  This is another reason I wanted to do a factory reset.  Hoping Acer will be kind enough to just send me the disk.   I've learned alot about refurbished products.  Never again.

Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default (I had this problem but mine was caused  by some third party partitioning software easeus. I am not pretty entirely sure what was your cause for the error, but I believe this workaround can be useful, even to some of the users)  I learnt a tough lesson and I am now careful on what third party soft wares one must use especially for partitioning related events using windows 8 GPT structure. This article specifically relates to windows 8 (which I was using) although similar steps may work as well in windows 7 Points note:Most newer windows devices now use the GPT partitioning system compared to the traditional MBR system. It can be very difficult to reinstall windows on a partition with GPT format. One must be careful on what 3rd party portioning tools they use. It is not recommend to use some 3rd party tools to resize partitions as these may mess the hard drive configuration in such a way that it will be very difficult to restore to factory settings (especially for devices pre-loaded with OEM-Windows 8)It is recommended to use the in-built Disk management utility to shrink/resize partitions.First and foremost, it is recommended to use system file scanner to check any files that may be corrupted (and most of these are normally fixed by sfc)Press Windows key + X, select ‘Command prompt (Admin)’. Enter the following command “sfc /scannow” (without quotes) and the system will start scanning the system. Wait until it finishes. Now we will proceed to the main fix; here are the set of steps I performed,Run CMD (Admin)Type diskpartType list diskDisk 0 Online 465 GB 19 GB * (an example of how the disk will present)

Now you can try system refresh/reinstall to factory settings (or create a recovery media)*In my case and others I researched on internet, it turns EASEUS partition master was the culprit, please don’t use that software if you don’t know what you are doing. (With all respect to EASEUS) I think this tool is still not configured well to work with the GPT partition format.

  • Hard drive configuration is not set to the factory default

When I go into Acer Recovery Management to try to create a factory default backup I get a pop up that says Hard Drive configuration is not set to the factory default - back up aborted.  How do I get my hard drive set back to factory default?

Create recovery backup or recovery media and resetting to default are 2 different things. you can create the recovery backup even without resetting to factory default; you just need to start Acer erecovery and follow instructions. it will copy the recovery partition to DVDs or USB flash media.if Acer erecovery is not working and you have Windows 8.x, you can follow this guide:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive about resetting to factory default, the easiest way is to press ALT+F10 at boot and then follow onscreen instructions.

    Hi Mikeryan,
Have you tried turning off bidirectional communication?
Open your printers and faxes folder, right click the icon for your printer, and choose printer properties.
Go to the ports tab, and un-check "Enable Bidirectional Communication".
Restart your computer, and try printing to see if the issue has been resolved.
    Hope this helps

  • C855-S5190 restored via recovery to factory defaults, ran the Toshiba updater, no Windows Update

I'm desperately searching for help!  My elderly father has a C855-S5190 and after trying the update to Windows 8.1 from the store, the laptop doesn't boot all the way up - kept giving various errors.  So, he dropped if off for me to try to fix.  I couldn't get around it so I did the restore to factory defaults from the restore disks.
After that all finished, I tried the Toshiba service station and it gave me about 7 updates that I installed.  After that, I rebooted and then wanted to see about doing the Windows 8.1 update.  Went to Windows Store - it says I need to do Windows Updates.  I went to search, and now there's no Windows Update showing anywhere.  I checked settings, and everything is empty under there as well.  What happened??
If someone could tell me how I can possibly do the Windows Updates.  I tried this once before trying the service center, the updates either fail, or they install, then it reboots, can't configure them, and gets stuck in a loop of trying to roll things back.  That caused me to have to do another restore to factory defaults - I've had to do it 4 times so far, and I just don't want to get stuck in that loop again.  So, I need to know what happened to my Windows Update, how do I get it back, and how the heck do I get this thing updated to 8.1?
I booted a Linux live media before starting and was able to recover the files, etc., he had on it to a USB flash drive since I knew doing the restore would wipe that all out.
Any and all input is GREATLE appreciated!!
    Dave

Here's the link to the Microsoft page,  I had to do this to get Windows Update to run.  The Windows 8.1 upgrade would not let me do the upgrade until Windows Update was run, and I kept getting this error.  It takes a *long* time for this to straighten out if you've done a factory defaults restore - several reboots, etc..

  • Files Recovery After System Restored to Factory Default?

    Dear Friends,
Last month I bought Lenovo X100e in Germany. Last night I got a virus attack that blocked every thing. I had to restore the system to factory default. Unfortunately I forgot that I haven't taken the backup of the pictures of my two weeks long Euro trip  :-(
Now I want to restore my Old Folders and Files. I didn't make any new partitions and was storing everything in drive C.
During restore I noticed that the system spent most of the time running some command like backing up C drive. But after everything was set, I couldn't find any back up information.
Does Thinkpad restore tool really stores back up information before overwriting the C drive? Can I get my files back with available tools? If not what is the best tool to recover my folders and files, preferably with original name and size.
I shall be grateful if you kindly guide me in this regard.

  • Is it possible to backup and restore a U300s to factory defaults?

I've decided to purchase a U300s. Since it doesn't have an optical drive, and therefore does not come with any installation media, I'm a bit confused how I might backup the disk so I can later restore it to factory defaults.
Is there a way to copy the contents of the internal SSD to a USB drive in such a way to allow booting off the USB drive? Is there any way to restore the SSD back to the exact state it was in when it left the factory?
    A little more detail...
I plan on installing Linux on the U300s and have no desire to dual boot Windows. Therefore I will be reformatting and using the entire drive for Linux. However, there are some very rare times when I might need to boot into Windows (e.g. installing BIOS updates). Preferably I'd like to have a USB drive collecting dust somewhere that I could boot off of in these rare situations.
I'm wondering if something like this would work:
Boot a new U300s off a live Linux USB flash drive
Use dd to clone the SSD to a portable USB drive
    Install Linux
Boot into Windows from the cloned USB drive as needed
Would something like that work? I'd prefer to do this all from Linux because I have very limited experience with Windows (I can barely do anything) but have been using Linux for 15+ years.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Using the onekey boot recovery software in windows there is an option to backup a factory image of the U300s drive to an external DVD. It's fiddly, but you can use a Virtual DVD burner to accomplish this. I found a free one and set the backup drive size to 8GB or something, then ran the backup telling the onekey recovery to backup to the external virtual drive.
Have a look on this and previous forum pages for some info on how todo this.
    Worked a charm
Only problem now I suppose would be recovering from that backup, considering it is far too big to be burnt onto a single DVD. Some combo of virtual drives again and maybe an external USB drive.
Let us know how the Linux install goes.

  • Restoring a Blank HD to factory defaults (including the hidden partition) [T400, Vista x64]

    Hi,
    Background info:
I'm installing linux, and instead of asking about everything at once, I'm separating my problems into multiple questions.
I plan to remove all partitions, make new ones (adding an extra one for linux) and then use the recover stuff to bring back windows
The main question (this one), is:
If I completely clear the hard drive of all partitions, and then re partition to include one extra linux (ext3) partition, can I use the "Product Recovery CDs" (the 14 cds that I have burnt using the thinkvantage software) to restore the computer to the exact factory default state? i.e., will it:
    1) Completely restore vista
    2) Restore the hidden recovery partition (I understand the CDs also act as a recovery partition, but there's 14 of them... I don't know how well I can maintain that many CDs, so I'd rather have another copy on the HD)
    3) Not screw up the thinkvantage "stuff" (this is my first lenovo, so I'm not sure, but I want to make sure the support software doesn't go nuts once it notices there's an extra partition, etc.)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Lost factory default apps after clean install

Hello there. I need some help in getting back my factory default apps, please. Here's the history. I bought my B50-30 AIO about a month ago, along with a subscription to Office 365, to use for work (I work from home). For work, I use vpn and in-house software. It turns out that the in-house software isn't compatible with Office 365.  The IT at work tried explaining it to me but it went over my head.  So IT ended up uninstalling 365 and I had to buy a full version of Office 2013. We installed this and tried to get it working with the in-house software, but alas it still wasn't working. The tech department were scratching their heads for two days and came back and said the only way they could get it working was if I did a clean reinstall of Windows. Eeek! Not being overly tech savvy, they sent me a link to download installation media to a USB drive, which I did. The link was to Microsoft's website.  I then carried out their instructions. You can guess the rest. Lo and behold, upon finishing the installation I discovered I'd lost all my factory default apps I've scoured the Internet looking for ways to get them back. So far I've managed to get Dolby Plus audio, Pokki, Lenovo Solutions Centre and Companion. I've also downloaded the Lenovo System Update with Dependency package but upon running it, it says I don't have any applicable applications. Is there any way I can get my apps back please, particularly the Cyberlink/Lenovo Power2Go and DVD10 and the rescue system? I've tried searching the Lenovo website, but I obviously need a lesson in how to operate that as well! I did manage to do a backup with the Lenovo Backup//Recovery app, but I now don't have an app to run it with.  Besides which, I only want the apps back, not the rest of it.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Sheryl

next to the power button do you have a small circle button?
if so this is a nova button designed to do a restore, if so follow this guide
    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077084
OneKey Recovery is an easy-to-use application. You can use it to restore your computer to the system default or to a previously backed up state.
    Detailed Operation Procedure
    1. Repeatedly press and release the F2 key after turning on the computer until the Lenovo Rescue System opens, then select OneKey Recovery.
    Note:
System Recovery will overwrite all of the data on the C: drive. To prevent loss of data, be sure to back up relevant data before performing system recovery.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the backup task you want to restore from and the disk where you want to install the operating system, then press Next to start the restore.
    3. Please wait during the process of system recovery. Do not interrupt the operation during the recovery process.
    4. After the system is recovered successfully, the software will prompt you to restart the computer. Restart the computer and start the operating system.

  • MSI GS70 Recovery to factory default after formatted partitions

here is what happened, after getting my gs70 I installed Windows 7 on it.  My mistake was I formatted all the partitions including the recovery partition without making recovery disks or back up.  After installing Windows 7 I realized that my laptop is having BSOD due to driver issues.
So for weeks now I've been trying to get my laptop to it's factory default or back to Windows 8.
this is what I have so far.  I have a friend that also owns the msi gs70 and I've asked him to make a recovery USB for me using the MSI BurnRecovery.  The closest I've gotten was recover from it, now I am running Windows 8 with all the drivers and settings.  But now my Windows 8 is not activated and is asking me to activate.  Another problem I have is when I try to run BurnRecovery software from MSI it's stating that I dont have a recovery partition available and i dont have the default partitions or hidden recovery partition.
    Please help...
thank you all, and happy new year

    Hello riow,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you would like to recover the C drive on your computer. If you do it properly, the D drive will not be affected. For more information on how to do it properly, please refer to this document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
I would definitely suggesting backing up your files in any way possible. I will provide instructions on how to do this: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)

  • Satellite L300-20D - Reset to factory default - How?

    Hi,
My Laptop is Kind Of Messed Up At The Minute And I Am Looking To Reset To Factory Defaults.
Can Anyone Tell Me How To Do This?
    Thanks.

    Hey,
The exact procedure for HDD recovery is described here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
But therefore the original OS from Toshiba (Vista) must be installed. If you have installed another OS you have to use the Toshiba recovery disk that you created.
The installation from Toshiba recovery disk you can start if you boot from CD/DVD drive. Then follow the screen instructions to install Windows.
Its very easy because all drivers and tools will be installed automatically.
Please send some feedback if it worked or not. ;)
