Recover corrupted movie file

I have a movie file that I can play on my macbook. When sent to someone else to view, I get the error 2002. I tried sending to myself to view on my windows based system and get the same message. I have the most uptodate java, quicktime and have tried all the other fixes recommended for the errors(e.g.tagger and ccleaner). Oh, I have tried importing it into a new project and remaking it, no luck playing it anywhere but on my mac.

Open the file using QuickTime Player.
Open the Movie Inspector window to report what it says about your file.

  • How can i recover corrupt .mov files that quicktime does not recognise?

we recently 'lost' a whole day's footage by accidentally deleting it. in trying to recover these files we have used many different programs and have had odd results.... sometimes the data is recovered and shows only thumbnails but not the proper film and othertimes says tht quick time cannot open the link because it doesn't reconise the codec. these clips were filmed with a Canon SLR camera and we have searched the reformqatted sandisks as well with the same result.... quicktime does not recognize the file.
any thoughts? it would be a tragedy to lose this footage... well not really, but you know - a whole day's work!
thanks in advance for your help.
    Gabi

I managed to rescue damaged AVCHD footage using photorescue. Some files were not complete, but I got them to play by trying different players like VLC, or mpeg streamclip, then exporting the clip as a new same format file. One or two were too badly damaged to rescue, but I got most back eventually.

  • Corrupt .mov files

How can I fix a corrupt .mov file (its almost 13 gb)? I have tried almost everything. My portable HD crashed and after recovering most of my files I have just a few corrupt .mov files, of course being some of the most important ones. Any suggestions?

Digital Rebellion has a editing maintenance tool kit that may be of use. One of the items does its best to repair QT files.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/promaintenance/
There is a trial version. The full version is ~$140. If your material is otherwise lost, and these tools save it, it's inexpensive.
In the mode of "locking the barn after you lost the canoe paddle downstream", this is why you should ALWAYS have a backup of your material before you start editing.

  • Is there a program I can use to retrieve corrupted .MOV files, from a HD memory card where some files will open, and others wont?

    Hi,
    I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.8 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.
I have recently shot some still and moving footage on my Cannon EOS 500 D (digital camera) using an AMICOE SD C10 8 GB high speed memory card.
After uploading these photos and movies onto my Mac, I am only able to open about 2/3 of the files that appear on the screen.  In the case of the movie files, I can see a number of the file icons, however about 1/3 of them will not open (I get a message saying that Quicktime does not recognise this file - yet it is a .MOV file. Interestingly I can see a small thumbnail for each of these files that will not open, however I am unable to expand the thumbnail into the larger size) and there are a number of photos that simply do not appear as a file or thumbnail.
Is there a program I can use to retrieve these corrupted .MOV and JPEG files from either my computer or the memory card?
Thank you for your interest in this question.
    Cheers,
    Shaughno.

....to add to the last part... When adding to the iTunes library,- I need iTunes to make a quick-scan to verify that media I am adding isn't already in there,- preventing duplicates that make remedial tasks of removing* duplicates so annoying and unproductive...

  • Is there a way to recover corrupted psd. files?

I recently transferred all my work from a work computer to my mac at home. i am unable to access my work computer until October as we are having a 'break'. However, I have a deadline for September 15th and I need all my files.
Some older files open perfectly fine but I fear there was a problem in downloading-perhaps due to my haste to leave and enjoy the beautiful weather!
I tried downloading a Remo Repair software but unfortunately this was unable to launch. Is there program out there that you would recommend in this instance for me to recover my psd files-which are of great importance!
    Any help would be appreciated
    Basic notes:
    Created on Windows computer cs5
Trying to open on Mac cs5
Sd card used to transfer-couldn't eject, this may be the problem

It is most difficult to recover a corrupted file.  Many have tried but almost all end up in failure.  Try opening in another program.  IF you can then "save as" and you can probably open in PS.
Do you have a backup?  Do you still have original files on Win computer?  These are your best bets.  It is too late for these files, but I think you can see the necessity of having a backup on a separate HD or even on a disk.

  • Cannot open corrupted .mov file - error 2048 unsupported format

    Hi all,
I have an important corrupted video file and I have tried every way I can think of to open it, but to no avail...
When I open it with Quicktime, an "error 2048 unsupported format" shows up, even though other videos I took are fine.
I can't open this video with ANY softwares including VLC and friends (trust me, I tried LOADS of them)..
After doing MUCH research I understand that either the header/closing part of the file is messed up.
Is anyone able to teach me how to fix those parts?
I'm really at the end of my wits and I'm a just beginner to hex-editing @.@ Better still, if you are able to take a look at this video for me...
I'll be very glad if anyone can help me out with this as I really wish to recover the video, this is for an important friend, thanks in advance!
P.s. the video is about 120mb in size

    Hi
Im using the tool called SUPER.
Its free and you can convert any file format to any other file format
Maybe it would be possible to convert his faulty file to another format and ten you could try to open it again using VLC player or other application.

  • Corrupted movie files

I have a large number of .mp4 files that no longer read into Quicktime player. It gives the "The file is not a movie file" message. These files used to be OK. I have checked some files from some older archives and they run fine. The movies are from several sources (iMovie, Handbrake, Elgato Turbo.264). For those files where I still have the source materials, re-converting works, but It will take several hundred hours to re-convert the files. I no longer have the source files for many of the movies.
Somehow these files are getting corrupted. (In the old days, I would try rebuilding the desktop, but that trick is no longer available). Any ideas on what is causing the corruption and how to restore/repair the files?

(In the old days, I would try rebuilding the desktop, but that trick is no longer available).
The "new" trick is repairing permissions and repairing your disk from your install disc. Instructions for both are found in the os Help menu and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751

  • DESPERATE: need to recover corrupted Word file

    Hi Everyone,
I hope someone out there can help me recover a corrupted Word file. My Macbook froze while I working on an important document. I was forced to restart it but when I tried to reopen the file I had been working on, I got a message that "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened" I have surfed the web for solutions and some suggested opening and repairing the file under PC versions of Word. I've done that, but when the file opens, the entire document is filled with weird symbols and characters. Please tell that I haven't lost everything
Thanks for any leads for solving this or on any recovery softwares that might provide some partial recovery of the data.

Well it's hard to say if recovery of your file is possible, but you can check if you have selected the Save AutoRecover information every x minutes check box in your MS Office settings.
If yes just check AutoRecover file location box in MS Office settings.
If not and you don't have backup, your file is lost i think.

  • How to recover corrupt passwd file for c6000+x6270?

    i met a problem.
passwd file corrupts and nobody can login.
hardware platform is c6000+x6270 blade, os disks have mirrorred.
in this environment, how to recover the passwd file(we have one copy)?
    Thanks

The procedure can differ depending which volume manager software you use, it this is the case. But basically, you should boot with an external media, like DVD or jumpstart server, mount the root partition and fix the /etc/passwd file, umount the partition and finally reboot.

  • Corrupted movie file including AAC audio

    Hi,
I was resently recording a discussion with my PowerBook and I used QuickTime Pros "New recording" function. A friendly member of the discussion board pushed the reset button in my computer resulting it to shut down.
As a result I have now a 150 megabyte .mov file with 44kHz stereo AAC audio. QuickTime still won't open it (error -2048). Nor will any other program I have tried.
Are there any ways to recover this recording?
    Thanks,
    -Artturi

Thanks Roger. I appreciate the feedback. I did a search, but it seems I didn't go far enough back in time. As I haven't had this problem before, I suspected it was something new brought about by either Garageband and/or iWeb in their latest renditions.
As a test, I shared the podcast directly with iTunes. Then, via the Finder I had a look at the shared file in my iTunes Library folder. The file was saved correctly as a m4a file. So, I copied the file, then opened iWeb. In the Quicktime panel which held the original file shared from Garageband, I pasted the copied file. After saving, then publishing to MobileMe, I pinged iTunes again. By this morning, the m4a file had replaced the .mov file. All now is well.
Crazy to have to go through this type of workaround just to publish a podcast. Bug must be in the Garageband sharing to iWeb process. Finding it is another matter. I posted feedback to Apple via Garageband.
Thanks again for pointing me in a different direction. Appreciate it.

  • PHOTOBOOTH  Corrupted .mov files

does anyone know how to repair  a .mov file that got curropted when i was filming.  it is something that i can't film again so i can't just remake the video.
photobooth forced closed.  and i was able to recover the 148MB .mov file from the photo booth library director by showing content.   Every application i have tried.  does not reconize it as a video file or if it does  it only sees it as black.    i tried to open it in hexedit and it looks like the QT container is messed up or the headers .     i have tried FCP / Compressor and all the professional software offered by APPLE  nothing works.  says invalid movie file.
Does  APPLE have anyway of fixing  my .mov file  or am i truly screwed.    FFMPEG wont even repair it properly  it says it can't see it as a valid mov file.

the tool that will do cost like 100EUROS for a license  ,  and i refuse to pay that much for a tool that the core functions of the tool are all FREEWARE based Codecs like FFMPEG movdump, menencore .
i am not going to list over 100apps that i have tried.  but what really bugs me is why apple would develop photobooth but then not have a way to recover curruopted files that it creates if the application force closes.
mpegstreamclip didn't work.. it couldn't find the video/audio tracks because i think teh QT container headers are missing because the  stop button was never pressed in photobooth.
If you want to recreate this problem you can..  make a movie in photobooth but then don't push stop  do a command Q  and force close the app.. then go to your users/USERNAME/picture/ folder and right click on photobooth libary and show content.. you will see the .mov file there.
the problem with the video i took is that its 145mb. and the software that is out there called "HD Video REPAIR TOOL "  will only recover 50% of teh file and then they want 100EUROS for an unlimited license or 30Euros for 5 time use.   if your file tho is under like 20mb and like 15 secs long.. and not  45 mins long like mine was.. it should work just fine under the correct time frame because its within there free trial window.
i just think. apple should develop a way to fix this .mov file if they do get curropted for FREE. since techincally it is there fault to begin with and we already paid for the application when we bought the OS.

  • Recover Corrupted Project file

I got this message when trying to load a WIP file: "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I've searched the forums as well as on other sources on how to deal with it. So far I've tried:
    1. Check files on AutoSave folder. No luck. All 5 files gave the same message
    2. Fix XML with XML wrench. Tried the "Check is Well Formed" & "Check is Valid" and both said ok"
    3. Restarted PC. Same thing.
    4. Move project and working files to other folders - same.
    5. Created a blank project and tried to import sequence - no sequence show up.
    6. Import from After Effects and Exported - no luck as well. Came up with a message saying there's no valid sequence.
Would appreciate if anyone can help look into my project file to see if this is salvagable. The file looks ok, but it just won't load for some reason.

Thanks in advanced for your help.
    Some info:
    Adobe Premiere Pro 6.0
    Windows 7 64bit
    Using Plural Eyes plugin

For what's worth, after hours of searching online for a solution and tinkering with the XML file, I managed to figure out how to salvage my project. What I did was to import my file into After Effects, and then single out the sequence I need, then went to Adobe Dynamic Link and created a project file in Premiere. Then I copied the sequence from AE and pasted it into Premiere, and deleted (what I took a while to find out) a screwed up sequence from the project and saved the project and ta-da.. it now opens fine.
I'm still unsure why the 1 or 2 sequence is causing the project to be corrupted, but I don't have the time to investigate as I need to complete this project asap.
Thanks to all that have helped.

    To trout00 -
Typically if an action taken inside an application causes a computer reset, this suggests that the OS is hitting some sort of kernel level exception. The OS is not giving you a blue screen but instead it is set to auto reset.
Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties. On the System Properties dialog box, take a look at the Startup and Recovery settings located on the Advanced tab.
I suspect that some sort of event log will be registered in this case.
Kernel level exceptions typically occur when hardware drivers or low level services error or have a bug. In the case of the sequence editor, none of its code is low level, so any error the program causes would just cause the applicati
on to shutdown, not the OS.
With this in mind, it suggests that you might have a hardware problem with the computer system.
See if the event log gives you any additional information.

  • How to recover corrupt USB files?

my USB flash drive stopped working today, when i try to verify it on disk utility, i get this message:
    ** /dev/disk1s1
can't open (no such file or directory)
error: filesystem verify or repair failed
i tried disk drill, wondershare, and stellar phoenix and none of them recognize my flash drive.
any advice on how to recover my files?

Here are the simple steps to repair data file in QuickBooks.
Step 1: Close the software as soon as you receive damaged data file error message.
Step 2: Now open the software. It will make a new Qbwin.log file.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Window’ option and then from the drop-down menu, click on ‘Close All’. Now go the ‘File’ option then from the drop-down menu, click on ‘Utilities’. A menu will appear.
Step 4: From that list select ‘Verify Data’. If QuickBooks reports that there is no issue it means your data is alright. On the other side, if you get a message saying “Your data has lost integrity” or “A data problem prevents QuickBooks from continuing” it
means your data is corrupted or has a structural issue. And in this case, you will have to run the Rebuild Data tool.
Step 5: Click on ‘Windows’ and select ‘Close All’ in order to close all the QuickBooks windows.
Step 6: To launch the Rebuild Data tool, click on ‘File’ and select ‘Utilities’. Now from the drop-down menu, go to ‘Rebuild Data’ option.
Step 7: Click on ‘OK’ and a pop-up will come warning you to take a backup of your file. It is recommended to create an entirely new backup file and don’t overwrite the existing file. To prevent overwriting, give a new name to the file when prompted.
Click 8: Wait for some time and let the Rebuild Data Utility finish the process. When completed, click on ‘OK’.
Step 9: Close the company file. Reopen the file to refresh the list.
Step 10: Select the company file and now to launch the file, click on ‘Open’.
Step 11: In order to verify if the data file is clean and is repaired, again run the Verify Data utility.

  • Corrupt movie file

After editing a movie for several weeks, I did something which hanged iMovie -- I think it was an undo. I had to force quit the app, but figured I could go back to the last saved version.
When I go to open up the file in iMovie, the iMovie application hangs. It gets to the point where it asks me if I want to view the files in the trash, and after that dialog I only see a rainbow beachball and a menu -- no window and no content.
I can open up the file just fine to view with Quicktime, but it needs a few more minor edits. Is there any utility which might be able to fix this file?

    Hello, peller,
Try this with iMovie closed--suggestion from catspaw:
Control+Click on your iMovie's icon. Select 'Show Package Contents' from the resulting menu. You should now see a number of folders relating to your project, as well as some files. Double click one of the files that looks like this:
    (your project name).~iMovieProj.
It is a previously-saved version of your project. It may restore what you have lost.
This will work if you have not saved your recent changes.
If you have a quicktime version of your movie, you can still do edits. Just put the quicktime movie into a new iMovie project. You cannot change titles or effects easily without trimming parts of your movie, but you may be able to salvage your movie so that you don't have to recreate it.
