  • "Recovered" CR2 files will not open in Photoshop CS6

My son recently completed the National Three Peaks Challenge. Regrettably, having taken loads of pictures, he discovered that one of the CF cards was corrupt. He and his fellow climbers have now paid a company (a considerable sum) to recover these photos and they are all showing as CR2 files. Unfortunately, neither Photoshop or any other program that he has (including Preview) will not open them. The images from the uncorrupted files are fine.
As you can imagine, he is desperate to get these images back so if anyone has any bright ideas as to where we go from here we would really appreciate it. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for your suggestion, normfb, which I passed on to my son. He has come back with the following answer -
"Tried the DNG converter, didn't even recognise there was a file in the folder I told it to look in!
The issue is that no programs be it Photoshop, that DNG converter, Lightroom or Preview are able to recognise that file format."
    Appreciate the idea though.

  • Recovered CR2 files won't open with CS3

Hey, I need help with this!
I worked in a photoshoot with a Canon EOS Rebel XSi and SD memory; then I had troubles trying to download them because the memory wouldn't let me do it, so I used the 'PC Inspector Smart Recovery' and I recovered all my CR2 files indeed. BUT! some of them won't open with Photoshop CS3, most of them do, but there's just some others that won't open and I really need to get this job done
My camera files always worked perfectly with photoshop CS3, plugins are installed, I really don't know what went wrong.

I am having a similar problem.  I downloaded CR2 files from my camera to my computer and CS3 Bridge will not recognize the files, allow me to open in Camera Raw or open in CS3 Photoshop.  I also stuck the same memory card in a Lexar mem card reader and attempted to download to my Mac in CS4 Bridge and that version of Photoshop and Bridge won't recognize the files either, however the CR2 files do appear, where I can view the thumbnails, in iPhoto.  All original files are still on the memory cards (4 cards worth of wedding photos!).  I've downloaded Camera Raw updates for both cs3 and cs4 on my windows pc and my mac and still no luck.  I'm at my witts end! Help!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, stop using your computer immediately to avoid your files being overwritten.
Dr. Smoke's FAQ Data Recovery has complete directions to help you recover your files, if they are recoverable.

  • Acrobat 8 professional causing recovered tmp files in trash

I have recently done a clean install of CS3 including Acrobat Pro. I'm getting an occasional bouncing of the Acrobat program icon in the application doc. It acts as if it wants attention, but when you click on it its just open and has no warnings. This is really annoying having to baby sit the app by clicking on the app icon.
Anyway, I'm also getting strange system performance issues. I'll restart and there will be recovered files in the trash. They are all acr1234567.tmp files. They look like Acrobat temp files.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Much appreciated!

Upgrade to 8.1.1 the 8.1.2 should stop the bounce.

  • Help needed recovering project files from trash

Hi everyone, I am hoping that someone will be able to help me. I just did something stupid!
I created two new projects in iMovie this morning and then needed to clear out the mac in order to speed up a clip as I was getting the warning that my disk was full. So I copied a lot of files from iPhoto onto a hard drive and then moved them to trash including the raw files that I was using for these projects. (I got a bit carried away!) Yes the video files were in iPhoto and not iMovie Events as the last time I uploaded files iMovie was not playing the game.
The files are still on the mac as I have not emptied the trash and they are also backed up on an external drive connected to the mac, but I have emptied the iPhoto trash. I tried importing the files back into iPhoto from trash and only got so far before the disk full message came up again. But even those ones that I did manage to re import are not showing up.
Is there any way that I can continue with these projects or have I effectively ruined them? Do I need to start again from scratch? I hope not as they took me hours and hours to create and had pretty much finished them.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :-)

To see these "other" backups, you need the Browse Other Backup Disks or (Browse Other Time Machine Disks on Snow Leopard or Leopard) option.  It's available by Alt/Option-clicking the Time Machine icon in your Menubar, or by control-clicking (right-clicking) the Time Machine icon in your Dock.

  • Recovering Files in Trash with Time Machine?

    Hey guys,
So I have some files that I desperately need to recover that I put in my trash a while ago. I am certain they were still in there when I recently backed up my Macbook Pro to Time Machine, but then a week later I accidentally emptied the trash, forgetting I'd left valuable files in there.
I've since tried to search through my time machine backup, but however cannot find a folder that contains the files anywhere. I tried making hidden files, but still can't find a folder that would contain the files that were in my trash.
Is there any way to recover files that were in the trash in a time machine backup?
Further details (may not all be necessary, just in case):
Computer: MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012)
OSX: Was running Mavericks at time of aforementioned events, now running Yosemite
Type of Files Trying To Find: Videos
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Time Machine doesn't back up the Trash. You would have to recover the files from wherever they were before you put them in the Trash.

  • Recovered files in trash after sleeping

Upgraded to Tiger 10.4.11 from Panther about 4 weeks ago using Erase & Install, then restoring apps, files, etc. with Migration Assistant from a clone. Flawless & painless--whew! However, I'm now having one minor but annoying issue--after playing Burning Monkey Solitaire, quitting, logging out & putting Mac to sleep, find recovered files in trash on next log in, specifically a couple of BMS text files. The Freeverse support folks are still working with me on this issue (suggesting doing a Secure Empty Trash, which didn't prevent the files from returning). I'm posting here, however, because today there was also an iPhoto folder (empty) in the Recovered files folder in the Trash. Any ideas on why this may be happening and how to stop it? I've used iPhoto since the OS upgrade without this occurring and, so far at least, no other apps (Word, Excel, other games, etc.) have been leaving orphan files on quit/sleep/logout that wind up recovered in the trash.
As I said, it's a minor annoyance, but hope it's not a symptom of something more serious. Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not quite what's happening here . . . first, neither Burning Monkey nor iPhoto unexpectedly quit--always were quit normally. Second, recovered files folder shows up after sleeping, not just after restarting.

  • Is there a way to recover a file that was sent to trash

I moved some files and then sent some files to trash, appently i sent to trash valuable to files. I went into time machine, and apparently my files have grown too large for my 3 terabit back up drive, and when i went in there was only one back up. it is dated at a period after i sent a file to trash but before i cleaned out the trash.
I have been told that time machine does not back up trash so that is a dead end.
My next thought was to consider looking at the file from where i the trashed files lived before i sent them to Trash. In my PC prior life there was an undelete function, i have been told by Apple support there is no similar function.
Any ideas how i can recover 2,000 photos that i have been working on?

If the files are in the Trash the locate them in Trash and right click them and select Put Back. If you haven't been backing up and you really did lose them then you are able to learn why backing up is vital. Time Machine does not backup the Trash however  you can easily use Time Machine to navigate to where the files where prior to being trashed and restore them. If you have Time Machine do that.
BTW you may also benefit from using redundant backup. Many of us on these forums will use a redundant system. For example I use both Time Machine and on another external HD I create a bootable clone using SuperDuper. This is valuable because backups can fail too and Time Machine isn't bootable. Here are some additional strategies from a Mac World article Backup Plan I.

  • Is there a way to recover a file from deleted trash

Is there a way to recover a file from deleted trash files

Once the trash is emptied only professional $$$ Applications will perform this feat and only if the filespace hasn't been overwritten yet.

I put my ibook author file in the trash and then accidentally emptied my trash. Is there a way to recover the file? Does iBooks Author have a backup?

if you use time machine, you should be able to get it back that way. Although IBA saves changes on an ongoing basis, it doesn't create a back up or supplemental copy elsewhere on your drive.

  • Recovering files from trash???

PLEEEEEASE HELP! Can someone tell me if you can recover files from somewhere in the system that have been deleted from trash

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
