Recover DB in case of HD failure

Hello,
Suppose there is HD failure (Not RAC environment ) or a fire destroyed the server, and I have full DB backup on an external HD. Then I have to get a new server, and install Oracle SOE. Can I restore and recover the DB backup which I have in the new Server ?? Can you please refer some doc ?

  • HELP! How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
    Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.
    http://www.twocanoes.com/
Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
    OS X
    Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays.

  • Problem in recovery from RMAN backup in case of disk failure

    Hi
I have Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on Windows. Full Hot RMAN backup of database is scheduled on daily basis. I am taking backup on disks. And then i do manually copy them on tapes. If any disk failure occurs than can i recover database completely in this scenario. If tried restoing that backup on different machine as given below
    set ORACLE_SID=<name>
    rman target sys/<pwd>@ORACLE_SID nocatalog
    startup nomount
    restore spfile
    create pfile from spfile
    startup nomount pfile
    alter database mount
    restore database
Everything worked fine till above steps. Now i will execute last step.
    recover database
Here it gives error:-RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1 scn 264750
    Still i typed
    alter database open resetlogs
Now i can open my database, But is it recovered completely? Or there is loss of some data? Why it is giving this error?
Thanks in advance. Waiting for reply.

I can understand the confusion with this whole concept.
What I meant by all archivelogs is all the archivelogs that were backed up with the backup itself. Again, it is essential to ensure that you archive the current redo log AFTER the backup is performed and then back those archivelogs too. Good thing is, RMAN will take care of this for you if you backup the archivelogs with the BACKUP DATABASE command and/or backup the archivelogs AFTER you run the BACKUP DATABASE command.
Once you've mounted the controlfile and CATALOG the archivelogs, you can go into SQL*Plus and issue the following query:
    select SEQUENCE#, FIRST_CHANGE#, NEXT_CHANGE# from v$archived_log
order by FIRST_TIME;This will tell you what archivelog is the latest. Logs generated during the backup may also provide the necessary information. Performing Disaster Recovery should help to understand the full process.
The ONLINELOG directory in FRA is only populated if you've configured your redo logs to be stored there. However, you are on 9i...right? If so 9i doesn't utilize a FRA.

  • Error message when trying to recover HD: PXE-E61 Media test failure

Hi all, new to forums, lots of good info and support here.
Got the BSOD last week.  Have been trying all of the various fixes mentioned on the board, to no avail. I went back multiple pages looking for alternatives to try.   After stepping away for a few days, I got farther today than I did when I was frustrated.  F12, chose to boot HDD, and got the following LOOPING error message:
PXE-E61 Media test failure check cable
    PXR-MDF exiting PXE rom
Which gives me hope that I may not have to replace my hard drive.
I have a satellite L455-5975, and have ordered recovery disc from acclaim ('0' option didn't work for me, which makes me wonder if Toshiba time limits that support, but that's off topic)
So it looks to me like my RealTek Ethernet Controller might be the problem?  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Anything I can do or should I wait for recovery disk to arrive? I worry that the recovery disk isn't going to do what I need.   Do I need to replace the ethernet controller, or is this a sign of a hard drive issue?  I consider myself 'fairly' tech savvy, but I've never taken a computer apart/put one together myself.  It would definitely cost less for me to replace HD myself than putting it in the shop.  So I'm willing to try that option if need be.
I appreciate any help/support!  Reading some of the previous posts make me wonder if rather than investing more money in the satellite, if I shouldn't instead be saving up to buy a new(er) model.

    Creedym...
I have a very similar problem with my mini-notebook model NB305.
I'm getting the same message and can't get past F2 or F12.
Bottom line; I ordered the recovery data from Toshiba on-line by model number ---not by type. They sent two DVDs. My unit doesn't have an optical drive.
First call to "John"---yes, you can copy the data to a thumb drive and use that.
Almost two hours of transferring --- the NB305 did not respond to the thumb drive.
Second call to "Paul". After some consultation on his part with someone else he told me that they don't make a thumbdrive (USB) recovery disk for my model, that's why I received two DVDs. ! I would have take it to a shop where they etc...
I haven't decided what to do next. Maybe purchase an external drive rather than take it to a repair shop where it will probably cost more than buying an inexpensive external drive.

  • Problems - Recovering Library After a Hard Drive Failure

I would really appreciate any tips or help.
I keep all my music on an external drive in a folder located as H:/iTunesFolder
After a hard drive crash (my C drive not the external) I lost the itunes XML but I was able to recover it.
After getting a new C drive I reinstalled iTunes and copied my saved XML and ITL into the iTunes folder.
Now when I open iTunes about 80% of my songs have the exclamation point. When I search for the song it's always right there in the correct folder
I even checked the XML using notepad and I cannot see any reason that the files will not connect.
So what can I do, is there a way to MASS reconnect all the files since they are all in the right place with the right names or is there a way to get them connected in the first place.
    Thanks a lot

The easiest way would be to put all the messages that are new since the backup you want to restore from into one or more temporary mailboxes, and export those mailboxes. Put them somewhere where they won't be overwritten by restored data. Then restore. Import the mailboxes you exported and move the messages back into place.

  • How do I recover PE 12 after hard drive failure?

On February 25, 2014 I purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 12. The page 'my-products-services' lists it along with all of the other Adobe products that I have purchased for my Windows 7 64-bit desktop PC.
I have been successful in re-installing CS6 Design and Web Premium after a catastrophic hard drive failure last month; however, am presently stymied in trying to even locate where on the Adobe website it might be allowable for me to re-install. For reasons unknown, My license is listed for PE12, but my order isn't listed under account-orders.html#myorderhistory. CS6 is shown on that page and was how I was able to reinstate CS6.
Does anybody know what I should do next?
    Gratefully yours,
    Kelly

    Kelly
I would definitely contact Adobe via its Adobe Chat to sort out the situation with your order and Adobe's record of it. You did purchase from Adobe direct? I am assuming yes.
What computer operating system did you download your Premiere Elements 12 to when you purchased it from Adobe?
For contact with Adobe's Chat, please click on...
    Contact Customer Care

    Chat Panel
The link is set to that location. If the link set does not hold, then you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel using the titles as guides.
At this moment, the Chat Panel is active and ready to be used.
However, for the immediate situation, you can download Premiere Elements 12 tryout files from the following web site. Be sure to read and carry out carefully (to the word) the Note: Very Important Instructions on the web page so that you do not get Access Denied. You can use the download and install as a tryout or insert your purchased serial number into the installation files to make it your working copy. Assure that you are selecting the correct files as replacements specific to what you purchased.

  • TCP connections effect in case of waas failure

i need to know the effect of waas failure on the existing tcp connection.

Cisco WAAS utilizes standards-based TCP optimizations to remove TCP as a barrier to application performance over the WAN. By initiating a TCP Proxy after autodiscovery, communicating nodes experience LAN-like TCP behavior through local acknowledgement and TCP handling. As such, when the network goes down the TCP proxy has the ability to mask the disconnect for a short time, but after that all TCP connection will reset and clients will try to re-establish a connection.
    For CIFS
-During transient disconnects (up to 95 seconds), the WAAS Edge maintains data in its buffers and retries the transmission to the WAAS Core upon network re-connect.
    - When the WAAS Edge switches to "disconnected mode", its services change to "no service" and the buffered data is lost. Further file operations will fail and the Client will be alerted that the server is disconnected. Open documents can be "saved as" on another drive
-If the accessed file server was configured for "Disconnected Mode" CIFS clients will be able to continue to browse the cache directory and read fully cached files on an WAAS Edge
In addition with Windows on WAAS providing local window services (dns, authentication) user can access local file shares on WAVE

  • Help recovering iTunes library after a disk failure?

Due to a faulty external hard drive, I have a daunting iTunes recovery task ahead of me. Does anyone have any tips that might help make my life easier? (In exchange I offer the tip that you should NEVER depend on LaCie external hard drives!)
    Here's the situation:
    - My iTunes library is located on an external hard drive (for space reasons)
    - The external drive housing that library will no longer mount and based on the sounds that it makes when trying to spin-up, I am not optimistic that I will be able to retrieve anything from it.
    - Thankfully, I made a copy of the "iTunes Library" folder onto another drive about a month ago (excluding podcasts).
    - I have made some changes to the library since the backup (e.g., added songs, changed album/artist names slightly, etc.) which may have slightly affected the directory structure (e.g., changing the artist name will change which directory the file is in,), but the changes are probably not major and affect only a small fraction of the items.
Here's what I need to do:
    1. I need to create a new library on the replacement external drive (easy enough)
    2. I need to copy the iTunes files from the backup to this new library and hope that iTunes is able to "find" them there based on the directory structure (iTunes had auto-organized the library into directories based on artist, etc.). It would be a nightmare to have to go through songs one-by-one and "locate this missing item in the Finder"... or to have to delete then re-add the songs which would cause me to lose my playcounts/ratings/playlist inclusions. (Any advice about how to do this?)
    3. I need to re-download podcasts (which were not backed up)... but it would be very nice to be able to do this without losing track of playcounts. (Is there any way to do this?)
    4. I need to find a way to search for all still-missing songs (i.e., ones that were added or whose details have changed since the backup) so that I can manually replace these (either delete, re-rip from CD, or re-buy from iTunes). (Is there a way to create a new playlist containing all "missing" items, that is, items that iTunes can't find in the iTunes library?)
    5. To avoid having to ever do this again, I need to set up some sort of auto-backup from one external drive to another. Time Machine isn't up to the task (can't back up external drives, as far as I can tell), and Backup doesn't just make a mirror. (Any advice on how to best accomplish this?)
    Thanks for the help!

  • Repoting Server: Which Management Server manage the reports in this case of MS failure?

If I have 2 MS "server1" and "server2", and server1 is the RMS emulator.
When i install "server3" with the Reporting Role and select "server1" how management Server.
What happend when server1 is turn off? Does Reporting work?

SQL Server provides failover clustering support so that you can use multiple disks for one or more SQL Server instances. Failover clustering is supported only for the report server database; you cannot run the Report Server service as part of a failover
    cluster.
To host a report server database on a SQL Server failover cluster, the cluster must already be installed and configured. You can then select the failover cluster as the server name when you create the report server database in the Database Setup page of
    the Reporting Services Configuration tool.
Although the Report Server service cannot participate in a failover cluster, you can install Reporting Services on a computer that has a SQL Server failover cluster installed. The report server runs independently of the failover cluster. If you install a
report server on a computer that is part of a SQL Server failover instance, you are not required to use the failover cluster for the report server database; you can use a different SQL Server instance to host the database.

At 8:18, table 1 had already been dropped. So at 8:18 the state of the database was that there was no table1. And that the is point to which you recovered your database.
Rman did this by applying all of the redo (that is, by re-applying all of the DDL and DML) that occurred between the time of the restored data file and the 'recover to' time you specified. Since that time was after you dropped table1, it re-applied the DROP statement.

  • Hard drive failure - options for data recovery and AppleCare coverage

I have been handed a relative's 12 month old MacBook Pro with a factory-installed 500GB hard drive which appears to have failed. When attempting to boot the MacBook I am met with the classic clicking and grating noise which I know is a tell-tale sign of hard drive failure. The drive will not boot and I am shown the question mark folder icon, indicating that the operating system cannot be found. Have booted into internet recovery mode, Disk Utility appears to have found no sign of the hard drive's existence and shows none of its partitions. I have attempted putting the MacBook into FW target-mode and mounting the disk from another laptop, but to no avail; while it will go into target mode the drive simply isn't visible. The SATA connection to the drive is definitely OK - I have tested with another 2.5 inch hard drive which showed up fine in Disk Utility and was bootable. Have run Apple Hardware Test/Diagnostics but this returned no errors. It seems like a pretty clear cut case of drive failure.
I put this all to the relative whose laptop this is and asked them whether the MacBook had been dropped recently, explaining to them that this is one of the likeliest causes for such sudden failure. Sheepishly they admitted that they had indeed dropped it, although not from too great a distance and onto a carpeted floor. Apparently in the days immediately after the shock the hard drive continued to boot but the system was very slow and beset by spinning beech ball hangups. It is only in the last few days that the hard drive has become completely unbootable, and seemingly unreachable.
I have two questions that I would be grateful for some help with.
Firstly, is there any possibility of recovering data from this drive without going to a data recovery specialist? The user did have backups of most important data, but some recently imported photos were not backed up. Is it any use me trying any third-party data recovery software utilities, bearing in mind that I can't even mount the drive in target mode?
Second, the MacBook is still covered by the extended AppleCare warranty for the next two years. Is it worth my relative's while making a Genius Bar appointment to see whether Apple would replace this drive for free, given that the damage was most likely user-inflicted? Is there any chance that this sudden failure could be unrelated to the drop the MacBook suffered the other day - perhaps just a result of the 'normal' failure rate? I am more than happy to exchange the drive for a new one myself and my relative is happy to pay for the new part (I was amazed at how cheap hard drives are now), but would we be better off trying an Apple Store? My prediction would be that while we might get lucky and have an obliging genius who agrees to swap the drive without asking too many questions, we could also have one who concludes the damage is not covered by the warranty and insists on charging for the new hard drive (at a mark-up I assume) and labour.
Any thoughts about these two issues or the hard drive failure more generally are very welcome. Thanks.

1, Data recovery software is your only alternative if there is no backup. It may or may not be able to revoker anything from that hard drive. If it does then the only other choice is to go to a data recovery service. If have to go that route expect to pay for it, like $$$$.
2, Yes. They will at least tell him what the problem is and the cost if any to fix. There is a good chance they will fix it for nothing and only charge for data recovery if they can do it.

  • Errors using Lightroom DNG Recover Edge plug-in

I'm trying the new Adobe Labs' DNG Recover Edge plug-in with Lightroom 4.2, but I'm having troubles on Canon 5D Mark II and Mark III images.
    The plug-in:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lightroomplugins.html
    http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/labs/lightroomplugins/lightroomplugins_dngre_docs.pdf
When I apply it to an uncropped image, I often get this error message: "An internal error has occurred. ?:0: attempt to compare nil with number" When I get this message, Also, after that, I have to cancel the process manually or else it apparently runs indefinitely with no result.
I got that error message all but one time that to use the plug-in on my first attempt to get this working.
One exception was when it appeared to work, creating a new DNG with the suffix "_full" on the filename. However, it only increased the DNG size by a vanishingly small amount. Lightroom still reports its size as the same, 5760x3840 pixels in the frame around the image in the Library and in the overlaid info text (hit "I" to reveal). The metadata panel shows the larger 5796x3870 size.
After that, the plug-in appeared to work, but it created an image that was labeled "2 of 2," with a dark frame around it in the Library module. However, I couldn't find 1 of 2.
Then I quit and restarted Lightroom, and both of the images appeared, grouped as a stacked image. Comparing the two images, though, there was no difference, though the metadata panel said the one with the recovered edges should have more pixels.
Anybody else seeing these errors? They seemed to be less of an issue after my restart of Lightroom but the plug-in still seems to be misbehaving in some ways.

Regarding the plug-in problems, I also haven't been able to reproduce it since the initial failure. This includes trying it with the initial images for which the plug-in didn't work; I suspect the problem wasn't with the specific images but with some other issue about Lightroom's state. Lightroom seemed to be working OK aside from the plug-in issue. I first used the plug-in immediately after installing it, with no Lightroom restart.
Regarding the cropping issue, it finally occurred to me that the "full" DNG created with the plug-in was cropped. So yes, once I reset the crop, I got the full 5796x3870 view. It was an expectations management issue for me -- I'd expected to see the full uncropped version as soon as I created the full DNG. This is an RTFM failing on my part, since the documentation (I now see) says, "This results in new DNG images (automatically imported) where clearing the crop will give you the full image area..." I'm sure you thought about this software behavior carefully (for example in situations where somebody had cropped and rotated an image already before creating the full DNG), but FWIW I expected to see the full view when I created the full DNG. (As an aside, at least to me, the phrase "a.k.a., active area, stage 3 image area" in the documentation doesn't help to explain anything.)
Regarding the user crop with the 5D3, yes, again a case of RTFM failure. You do need to change "add cropping info" to on.
    Thanks for your responses.

  • Special case with dataguard

    Greetings!
I would like to configure a dataguard standby database with a special primary. I have two servers, both access the same SAN storage and having the spfile (linked from $OH/dbs), redologs, controlfile, datafiles on this SAN. Because of that in the same time only one of the servers is able to mount and run the database. (This is NOT a RAC) And because of this situation it is not a matter which server maintains the instance because it is always the same one.
    My Q:
Am I able to configure the DataGuard to try to dynamically connect to both servers and use that one which maintaints the instance?
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Miklos

    Miklos
First of all this is not a Dataguard configuration, this is just an Active/passive configuration working with the same data. In case of a failure event at the datafiles, this topology won't protect you.
Dataguard is a stand by database at a 'remote' site which maintains its own set of datafiles, controlfiles and redologfiles, which is transactionally updated by means of an archivelog stream coming from the primary database, either physically or logically updated. In case of failure of the primary database or host or storage, you can switch to the stand by so the operation continues with minimum down time.
In the topology you are planning, in the event of failure from the database at the datafile level there will be no way to recover but by means of a restore/recover operation. If dataguard is a mean to maintain a continuous business operation, this approach won't provide but redundancy at the node level, and it is rather a Cold Failover Cluster.
