  • Is there a way to recover deleted email on my computer?

We inadvertantly deleted an important email on our computer and it is no longer in the trash folder since the messages in the trash folder that are older than a certain date are automatically deleted. Is there anyway to recover this deleted message? It is no longer available on our ISP's server and they said that they cannot access it so I am trying to find out if it is possible to recover the email from my computer. Thanks.

    Geoff,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
I know of no sure way to make such a recovery, and the only possible way that comes to mind would to use some sort of data recovery software. However, if the Mac was used for any period of time, after the elapsed period of time to keep deleted messages, even that is most unlikely.
One other possibility, would be to examine both the mbox file of the INBOX.mbox and Deleted Messages.mbox folders, with another application, such as TextEdit or BBEdit to see if any reference remains. The path to these mbox files is as follows: Control-click over the xxxxx.mbox file, and choose Show Package Contents -- then open the mbox file with TextEdit or BBEdit. If deleted from the Inbox, check the package of both the INBOX.mbox and Deleted Messages.mbox folder from the account folder for this account (assuming here, that the account is POP). If deleted from a mailbox you created, then the folders to check the package of would be in the Mailboxes folder. All referenced xxxxx.mbox would be found within the Mail folder, at Home/Library/Mail.

  • Recovering deleted email in cache or HD

I understand that everything from the internet posts in cache. Does that mean I can find deleted emails from hotmail somewhere on the hard drive?

No. If you deleted them in Mail they are gone.

  • How do you stop Mail App from recovering deleted emails

I use Mail app to manage multiple email boxes. Whenever I send a message, it will fail and ask me to send through another server. If it fails, it will infinitely ask this question. Also when I cancel it, it will infinitely recover and try to send the message. Even when I delete the mail box, it will bring it back. That email address is now unusable through the mail app because it shows the spinning wheel and tries to send/recover the one deleted message over and over.
I have read on this forum that if you delete the invisible folder below, it will get rid of the problem
    ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-<username>@[email protected]/.OfflineCache
Where is this folder? There is no folder in Library that is named "Mail". So I don't know what to do.

I did what you said but there is no file with "OfflineCache". I even used spotlight and it cannot find a file named or containing "OfflineCache". I saw the recovery folder and deleated the email in there. But when I start up Mail app, nothing has changed. I even deleted all the cashe on my system using CleanApp (hope this doesn't mess up anything) and nothing has changed. I can't even use Mail App until this is fixed.

  • Recovering Deleted Email

Hello, in the Mail tool, I was cleaning out old emails from a folder called "old email" I had gotten from 1600 to 800 and somehow deleted the entire folder called "old email" and it's gone!? Nothing in trash. Can I find this folder and recover the 800 emails?

Unfortunately, you can't recover that folder or those emails; for all practical purposes they're gone forever.
If you are prepared to stop using your computer immediately and get yourself some file recovery software such as TechTool Pro, DiskWarrior, or Data Rescue; or pay a third-party file recovery service, you might be able to recover some or all of them. Otherwise, you have no hope of recovering them.

  • Recovering deleted emails from blackberry

I accidently deleted some important emails from my "mailbox & handheld" by accident. Is there anywhere in the handheld to retrieve the deleted messages?

    Not easily.
    1. Do you have backup of the device that would contain those messages? If so, you can restore your message database to the BlackBerry.
    2. If you STOP right now using your BB and don't touch it again, you can find a BlackBerry forensics specialist which can take your device and possibly extract the information from it. There are only a few who do this, and it is very costly.

  • Can i recover delete Emails ? because I need to recovers information please

I have some information in my Email  ,, I deleted them By accident .the information is so importent for me .. it may be take me to the jail  .. i want to returns them to protect my self  please

I am sorry for your loss, both of your wife and of the photos to remember her by.
You should look in your deleted folder(s) and if your email provider has a web-based access (such as mail.google.com), look online in their deleted folder in the off-chance they are sill there.
Otherwise, unless you have some backup files from that time, I can't think of anything else to do.

  • Any way to recover deleted emails?!

Yesterday, I did a truly stupid thing.
Because Mail messes with PDF attachments I send to clients on a regular basis (it turns the PDFs into jpegs and embeds the file). I'd like to figure out why it does that, but that's not the immediate problem.
I decided to open Entourage and send a "test PDF" to her, to see if that worked better for sending attachments. (it did). However, when I set up a new POP account in Entourage (using info from my Mail account) - it downloaded all my inbox emails from Mail.
Without thinking or using any brain cells at all, I deleted them all from Entourage. And of course when I reopened Mail (which I prefer to use), all the emails were gone. After spending over an hour with a live chat tech person, nothing worked. The only helpful thing I learned was that I should have set up the account in Entourage as an IMAP and not a POP account.
I know I may be SOL, but thought someone here could suggest some magic wand thing to bring back those emails ... most of which were business-related and that it ***** to lose.
I like Mail a lot ... but Entourage and even Outlook have better features for handling attachments. I wish Mail would take some of those features.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions ... or even to slap the back of my hand.
p.s. I'm a graphic designer - so have to deal with sending a lot of PDF proofs.

The thing is, sometimes when I send PDFs it's fine, and sometimes she gets it and it's a jpeg and embedded ... not consistent at all ... I didn't assume for sure it was on my end, but without sitting at her computer and looking at Outlook, which I'll do the next time we meet, it's hard to know what's going on.
I do know that sometimes when I attach a PDF, the whole thing shows up in the body of the email (like it's embedded), and sometimes it's just a PDF icon attachment, and so I know that's something happening on my end before I even send the file, but can't for the life of me figure out what.
I like Mail a lot. But it does lack features that Outlook and Entourage have that I like. For instance being able to send an attachment to the main recipient only, and not the CCs and BCCs, which I used to so that a client knew I was sending the final high-res file to a printer, without having to send it to them. And I never had attachment problems when I used those programs, but maybe that's simply a function of using PC to PC programs.

  • IPhone 6 Plus - recover deleted email

    Hi
I swiped an email in my mail inbox to the left and it's now disappeared, presume permanently deleted!  It's not in my trash and I've checked on my macbook to see if it's in my Outlook.com (Hotmail) and no luck.  It's very important and all I read was the first few words.  I've searched my phone and Macbook for the sender's name but I only have a first name and have no way of finding out who the sender is.  Can't believe a swipe can permanently delete an email without confirmation.
    Any ideas please?

    Try this procedure:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • I need to recover my own deleted email for a civil court action. What do I need to do?

I have a contentious civil proceeding and need to be able to recover deleted emails from and to one specific email address. I've tried to recover the deleted email using backup and restore from iCloud but this really did nothing. Since they're my own emails - on my own account I figured some sort of process or legal request would suffice - but what kind of request, who do I make it to and who has to ask for it? Help!

I prefer a clone/bootable backup ovver Time Machine myself.
For TM you need a running OS, then time to restore, with a clone you can boot from that & keep working while doing the other when time is better. And you can test a clone before you need it.

  • How does the EDB handle deleted items and why am I only able to recover some and not all previously deleted emails?

    Hello,
I have been unable to locate information regarding how the EDB handles deleted files.  I am able to recover deleted emails from the EDB; however, there are numerous emails that I know have been deleted, that were not recovered during the recovery process.
Is this because the EDB dumps deleted emails once it reaches a certain amount of entries?  Or is it more likely the deleted items are corrupted and thus not recoverable?  Thank you for your time and I look forward to your responses.  The
product in question is Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

Great information from the other posters and one other possible explanation is if the users did a HARD DELETE.  More information on this below
    Pre-Exchange 2010 Dumpster 1.0 worked as follows;
    1. When a user does a normal delete of an item via Outlook or OWA it gets sent to your deleted items folder
    2. If the user then empties deleted items folder those items are then marked with the ptagDeletedOnFlag attribute which in essence hides them from the view of the user
    3. At this point the user can use the Recover Deleted Items function in Outlook to recover those items as long as the items were NOT purged using the Recover Deleted Items option OR the items have not passed still the deleted item retention period.
NOTE: Every day there is a nightly maintenance process that in short looks through  the DB and examines items that have been deleted. Items that have met or exceeded the deleted item retention period are purged from the system and are
completely non-recoverable.  More about this at the end of my post.
    4. However if the end user were to  delete an item from the Inbox or another folder in Outlook by using Shift + Delete aka a Hard Deletion the item is left in its orignal location and gets marked with the ptagDeletedOnFlag attribute which again just
    hides it from view.
    5. By default you can only use the Recover Deleted Items option on the Delted Items folder.  Howeve you can make it so that you can recover hard Deleted items from other folders.  More on that here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246153
    5. The problem with this method though IMO is that you have to know where to look and that can be rather time consuming.
    6. If you want a more elegant method to resolve this and are open to using 3rd party utilities check out Lucid8's DigiScope.
http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp which will allow you to open any offline copy of the DB from a forensic point of view and to solve your specific issue you can either turn on a filter to ONLY
show hard deleted items OR you can search the entire store and all mailboxes for just deleted items and can then view or export them to PST or MSG format.  You can download the product and obtain a 30 day demo license which will allow you to find any
hard deleted items, however to view them or export your would need to purchase a license.
NOTE: When a database is backed up or copied it is an "Offline" database and then its offline the data retention period is not an issue because the nightly online maintenance process can only act on a database that is mounted on an
Exchange server.  So for this reason if you want to recover the most data possible use offline copies/backups of the DB with a 3rd party utility like DigiScope
NOTE 2: Exchange 2010 and 2013 use Dumpster 2.0 which is an entirely different beast and I will not go into that in this post since its nearly 1AM  however DigiScope can expose that information as well
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003
    --> 2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's
    DigiScope
