Recover from botched Agent install?

I somehow screwed up the ZCM 11.1 Agent install on OES2SP3 x86_64. Now I can't reinstall it because it thinks it is already installed. Anybody know how to recover from this?
Thanks,
Toney.

I think I got it. I extracted the PreAgentPkg_AgentLinuxComplete.bin file and installed all the appropriate rpms. Then I was able to register with the server.
It might be good to have a CleanUp utility for Linux like there is for Windows, though.

  • Reformatting problem: trying to recover from botched Bootcamp XP install

    Hello all,
Yesterday I tried reinstalling XP on my Macbook using Bootcamp. (I've installed and erased several times, depending on how much space I needed in my mac partition and how badly I wanted to play PC games..) This time, however, I inadvertently erased my entire drive while XP was installing. Thank god for Time Machine and my external backup drive!! EXCEPT.. a restore is not working. I've tried it twice, first reformatting the drive to mac os journaled, but after the restore Leopard can't start up. The computer has a kernal panic and claims "Mac OS version not yet set"
I figure this has to do with XP reformatting the hard drive, but for whatever reason Disk Utility won't completely repartition it. In fact, the first time I ran Disk Utility (from an install disk) it wouldn't format or partition at all, everything was grayed out.
This is seriously freaking me out.. and I can't find any info on the web as to anything more I could do with Terminal to force a complete reformatting of the hard drive. What could be going on?
To be clear: I've used Disk Utility TWICE now to reformat to 1 partition, mac os journaled. Then I restore, but upon start up the computer has a kernal panic, claiming "mac os version not yet set"
Does anyone know a terminal command that would COMPLETELY get rid of whatever XP installed on the HD that is creating this?
    muchly appreciated,
    max

    Hey Hatter, thanks
yup, I repartitioned the drive, erased the drive, everything. The first few attempts Disk Utility would, interestingly enough, create two new partitions (when I would simply erase) one being the drive name I set and another as disk0 or something. Now it's no longer doing that, at least.
I'm trying to restore again, which just had a glitch. It said it restored after only a few seconds. So I'm doing it yet again. This time, (after again using disk utility to repartition the drive) restore warned me with the usual "are you sure you want to do this it will erase the drive.." but included the entire name of the drive instead of calling it "." So might be good news? Anyway, i'll know in an hour after the restore.
The question remains, however. What is this kernal panic that keeps happening?
I found a screen picture online of someone else's kernal panic. Mine is like this up until the "Mac OS version not yet set"..

  • Recovering from corrupted USB install

I recently tried to install the USB tools from the developer site. The installation failed when rebooting.
The end result is that my USB ports, including the internal keyboard and trackpad, no longer work.
How do you recover a Macbook Pro when you cannot type or use the mouse to restore from your Time Capsule? My laptop is effectively bricked....
    Things tried....
cmd+s on startup, takes me to the correct prompt, so the keyboard was obviously working for a second, however now I am at the root prompt and I cannot type.
shift on startup, also works, however once the load is finished, the jkeyboard and mouse still do not work.
It is obvious that the input is being seen at the start of the process, however the USB config is being loaded and therefore corrupting this.
Any ideas how to solve this? As I have time capsule, I am happy to blow my drive away, however as I am on Lion, I do not have discs, plus I do not have enough control to boot from them anyway.......

    Chris H

I believe mende1's response is slightly incorrect. On older Mac computers that came with an internal DVD drive the only way to install Windows on those Mac's is from that internal DVD drive. Even if you connect an external DVD drive OS X and or the Mac computer Firmware will not allow the Win install DVD to boot from that external DVD drive. It must be done from the internal DVD drive. So if yours has failed then you would need to have it replaced before you can install Windows on your Mac.
I know this from personally trying to install Windows from an external DVD drive even when there is an internal DVD still in the system. My late 2011 MBP would not load the Win install from the external DVD drive but would from the internal DVD drive.

  • How to recover from Acrobat X install error?

Yesterday I tried twice to install Acrobat X Pro under Windows 7 after having successfully installed five of the other cloud applications.  Both the first and the 'Try Again' attempts failed with the identical 1310 error that is described in various posts in the forums.  I hibernated the computer overnight and this morning opened the Application Manager for Creative Cloud to again work on the problem.  However, now the App Mgr nows shows Acrobat as "Installed" even though it is not shown in the list of All Programs with the other five successfully installed apps (e.g., InDesign).  There is no visible way to uninstall Acrobat and then do a successful install.  Now what do I do to get Acrobat from Creative Cloud working on this computer?

Is Acrobat X listed in Control Panel > Programs and Features?
Is it possible to uninstall it there?
I'm moving this thread over to our download/installation forum.

  • Recovering from a partial RT Image

We use the RT Replication VI to setup our RT controllers.  Recently we
had the imaging process get interrupted due to a network failure.
After the failure we could no longer see the RT controller in MAX.  In
order to get it back up and running, we had to format the CF card (we
are using the 8145RT card).  Is there a way to recover from a partial
install other then formating the CF card?  I was hoping that putting
the controller in User-Defined Safe Mode would allow it to reappear in
MAX, but it doesn't.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We were able to reproduce the issue.  Below is the serial output from the unit after the issues has ocurred.  The S3 switch for user-defined safe mode is enabled.

  • CCM 8.6.1- Installation Failed. Restart install to recover from failure

    Hi All,
I am installing CCM 8.6.1 on an MCS7835I3 platform. The platform came with CCM 8.6.1 preloaded on the harddrive. During the installation linux detected some compenents like NIC, Raid, and USB.
then after checking some components i face below error
"The installtion has failed and must be restarted to recover from the faliure.
You may dump diagnostic information at this time to a USB storage key. Would you like to dump diagnostic information"
I am try to figure out what is causing this message.
    Pls help me!!

    Hi
It seems to me that your server did not begin the CUCM installation. If you already have pre-loaded CUCM media in the server hard disk then you should first check the boot sequence on the server. Make sure that the first option is the hard disk.
    Once confirmed, restart the server.
If you still face the issue, then i suggest that you install CUCM from CD.
Below is the installation document. Do check the server compatibility and hardware requirements.

  • C# SCOM SDK agent install works fine from debug mode but disconnects when built from installer

My team is writing a C# application that installs SCOM agents on the fly. I used the code in :
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh329037.aspx
as a template. Which works fine and will consistently install agents when I run it in debug from Visual Studio. But when I build an installer (using InstallShield), calls to:
    "AgentTaskResult results = adminServer.InstallAgents(agents, configuration);"
    always result in a Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.ServerDisconnectedException. The agent install even shows up in pending management on the SCOM server (but this sits in pending management forever and is never processed). Calling managementGroup.Reconnect();
and retrying the agent install still results in a ServerDisconnectedException. The application has no problem doing other things with the managementGroup object (from debug or running from an installer). It can create MonitorConfigurationOverrides and
gets events out of an outbound connector. So it seems like the disconnect problem is localized just to agent install requests.
I looked in the Windows Event Log and found an OpsMgr SDK Service Error:

  • Search for ZfD Agent install script

I am looking for a script / batch file for installation of the ZENworks agent without reboot of the workstation.
I am just updating from ZfD 7 SP1 ir3a to ir4 and if I install it manually and start the ZENworks services after install everything is still operational without reboot.
However if I install the agent with a ZENworks application package it always needs a reboot to activate the ZENworks services again - especially the Workstation-Manager
I tried it with pre- and post launch and distribution scripts, and with batch file installation. Everytime when the Workstation-Manager stops the installation ends but the post-scripts and batch processing stops as well. It always requires a reboot to activated the Agent again - or a manual start of the Workstation-Manager service.
I need to find just a way to call a batch file after the MSIEXEC process finishes in order to perform a "net start Workstation-manager".
The difference to other invoronments might be, that the Application is assigned to the Workstations instead to the users like in most other environments.
    Thanks for your ideas, Klaus

    Well .... [toot horn]
This is a link to a script I wrote in AutoIt that I used for many ZfD6 - 7 deployments. Was very successfully in getting the agent out and you run it from the login script.
    Zenworks 4x - 7.x Workstation Agent Automated Deployment - Novell: ZENworks FAQ - Tek-Tips
I didn't write it to do a removal of the agent, but would be simple enough to be added. On the same forum site, in the Zen FAQ's I also posted the source code for the script I have been using to do ZCM deployments. In it has the code you would need to add to facilitate the uninstall of the agent so you can do a reinstall.

workstation will lose the ability to install from the network)
    Then executes the batch file
The batch file stops the zenworks services, unloads the NAL (may not be
necessary, not sure if the msi will do this)
Batch file then installs the ZFD agent with the noreboot option.
    batch file restarts each service
Problem will be the batch file really can't re-start the nal correctly.
Since the batch file will be running under the SYSTEM scope, anything it
launches will be under that scope too (ie.. the NAL), so when it loads, it
    wouldn't see any user-based apps.

  • Recovering from various disasters

    Hello,
I'm trying to put together a plan to recover from potential OVM failures, but I'm unclear about a number of points. Any suggestions and clarifications would be most welcome.
    Guest:
We're installing a backup agent on all the VM's (Red Hat and Oracle Linux). If the VM was somehow completely lost, we plan to re-create it, do a fresh o/s install, and restore the filesystems from backup.
    VM Manager:
It runs as VM. To recover from a problem, we plan to reinstall the VM Manager using the same UUID, rather than backing it up. If we were to back it up, are there critical configuration files we should back up?
    Database:
This is exported and backed up regularly.
    Oracle VM Server:
I'm not sure about this one. If we somehow lost one server (we have a 3-node cluster), if we just reinstall Oracle VM Server with the same ip and hostname would all be well after I rediscovered it? As long as the other two nodes were up and running, would the rebuilt server be added to the ocfs2 cluster when it's rediscovered?
Also, what information is in the server pool filesystem and the database? How do you all back up the server pool filesystem (or do you?) ? We can't install our backup agent on the Oracle VM Servers.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Edited by: user13166809 on Jan 7, 2013 12:55 PM

there is no need to backup the Oracel VM Server .
if something wrong with the OVS,not the ocfs2,you may wipe the db for the OVS,and the restart the agent then reboot the OVS.The ovs would be fresh as you just installed it

  • Can't recover from sleep sometimes: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong!"

I'm running gdm + gnome-shell (force fallback mode) on a Thinkpad W520 with intel integrated graphics only (via bios setting, so no optimus). Once a week or so, my Laptop fails to go to sleep properly and to recover from it.
It basically works like this, normally when I close the lid, the sleep LED blinks a couple of times, and then stays on (and you can hear the fan turn off). When sending the laptop to sleep fails, the led blinks indefinitely (like, all night, if you let it), the fan keeps running as well.
Once you open the lid again, you are greeted with the message "ACPI: Unable to dock!" on a black screen. This happens when successfully recovering from sleep mode as well, though.
Shortly afterwards, instead of seeing a password prompt, you see this:

  • SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found

I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
    DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas
    Thanks

    Hi Petro,
I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.
    Component A
    Component B
    Minimum Requirement
Root management server or management server
    Agent
    64 Kbps
Root management server or management server
    Agentless
    1024 Kbps
Root management server or management server
    Database
    256 Kbps
Also check if you have any Anti virus / Firewall which is blocking the install / communication. If yes disabe or add the "Monitoringhost.exe to the safe list or what your feature is.
Check if you have another IP assigned to the NIC card and remove it tempraurly andchecl.
Also post the event logs of the Agents which are in not monitored state for analysis.

    %windir%\422C3AB1-32E0-4411-BF66-A84FEEFCC8E2
When you install or remove a management agent, the Operations Manager 2007 management server copies temporary files to the remote computer. One
of these files is named LockFileTime.txt. This lock file is intended to prevent another management server from performing a management agent installation at the same time as the current installation. If the management agent installation is unsuccessful and
if the management server loses connectivity with the remote computer, the temporary files may not be removed. Therefore, the LockFileTime.txt may remain in the folder on the remote computer. When the management server next tries to perform an agent installation,
the management server detects the lock file. Therefore, the management agent installation is unsuccessful.

  • I AM UNABLE TO CONNECT TO ANY WEBSITE USING FIREFOX. EVEN THOUGH, I HAVE BEEN USING FIREFOX ON THE SAME COMPUTER FOR YEARS WITH NO DIFFICULTY. THE PROBLEM AROSE AFTER COMCAST, MY ISP, RECOVERED FROM A WIDESPREAD OUTAGE THAT LASTED 5 HOURS.

I SUCCEEDED IN TRANSFERING ALL MY BOOKMARKS TO GOOGLE CHROME. THIS WILL ALLOW ME ACCESS TO WEBSITES WHILE I WAIT FOR A METHOD TO REPAIR MY FIREFOX PROGRAM. IN A PREVIOUS MESSAGE, I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCESS ANY WEBSITE USING FIREFOX AFTER COMCAST, MY ISP, RECOVERED FROM AN OUTAGE THAT LASTED 5 HOURS. WHENEVER I TRIED TO CONNECT TO A SITE, A POP-UP MESSAGE APPEARED INDICATING: "UNABLE TO INITIALIZE THE APPLICATION'S SECURITY COMPONENT. THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS PROBLEMS WITH FILES IN YOUR APPLICATION'S PROFILE DIRECTORY. CHECK THAT THIS DIRECTORY HAS NO READ/WRITE RESTRICTIONS." I EVEN REMOVED FIREFOX FROM MY COMPUTER AND DOWNLOADED IT AGAIN, FIGURING THAT BY NOT MERELY USING AN UPGRADE, I WOULD BE INSTALLING A COMPLETELY FRESH DOWNLOAD. UNFORTUNATELY, I RECEIVED THE SAME DISAPPOINTING RESULT, WITH THE SAME POP-UP MESSAGE RE-APPEARING. HOWEVER USING BOTH GOOGLE CHROME AND INTERNET EXPLORER, I WAS ABLE TO CONNECT TO WEBSITES. SO I HAVE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH MY INTERNET CONNECTION.

Press '''START + R''' in keyboard to open the '''Run''' box(or '''start''' then '''run''') , type in the RUN box '''%APPDATA%''' (or copied in just i wrote, bold text) then click '''OK'''. A Windows Explorer window will appear, in this window, choose '''Mozilla''' then '''Firefox''' then '''Profiles'''. Each folder in the "Profiles" folder (e.g., "xxxxxxxx.default") is a profile on your computer (maybe is one file if you have only one profile).

  • Recovering from a network drive

    Hey all
I've been successfully using Time machine on a network drive (using "defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1"
in a console). Unfortunately, my HDD broke and apple support had to install a new one.
Now, how do I restore from that network drive again? I have a freshly installed and fully updated Leopard already and would like to just restore the users' settings. But, the network drive isn't visible in the migration assistant.
I even tried to copy the network drive's content to a firewire disc... still nothin visible.
    What else can I do?
    Thanks a million!!!
    Bernhard

Yes, I can mount the image and thus have access to all revisions stored by time machine. Maybe I could use rsync to get the data back in place? My hope was to make time machine recognize the image on the (now) local drive and recover from there... is that possible?
I know that it's unsupported to use time machine on a nas, but - for me - running time machine on a local hdd just doesn't make much sense (I want multiple computers to do their backup to the same drive and I also want to separate the backup drive from the original drives physically). I also don't see why this should be so difficult to implement (Vista can do it btw... :-)), unless, of course, Apple wants to sell its time capsules...
Anyway, I didn't want to complain, I would just like to get my data back.
    Thanks for your help!
    Bernhard

  • OBEngine Service missing from a fresh install of Azure Backup

I downloaded the MS Azure Recovery Agent from the portal and registered and set up the server fine
I set up a quick backup job to test and when I came to run it I get the following error:
I have rebooted the server and still the same error
The service is missing so i guess that's why it won't run but I cant see or find how to get that service installed.
I would not have expected this issue from a clean install?
    Anyone help please?

    Hi,
My first suggestion is to reinstall Azure Recovery Agent - you can re-download it, uninstall exists one and reinstall it to see the result.
Also please make sure that port 6049 is open both TCP and UDP on the local machine via Windows Firewall. If any third party firewall is configged instead, check port 6049 as well or temporarily disable firewall just for a test.
Meanwhile obengine is a service so please test to restart it - let us know if any error occurs.
    Net stop obengine
    Net start obengine

  • RHEL4U4 EM64T Grid Control agent install issue

I've installed a 2 node Oracle 10G R2 RAC on RHEL4 U4 EM64T and it is working fine on Dell PE2850 servers. But I couldn't get the grid control agent installed on these RHEL4U4 EM64T PE2850 servers. The OMS server is running 32 bit Oracle 10g R2 on RHEL4. The issue is with the OMA (agent) install on EM64T and I've tried several different options (local install and push from the OMS server). I end up with the following error. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
