Recover from Windows 7 back to Vista

I have installed Windows 7 over my Vista implementation. Now I want to recover to Vista again and want to make use of my recovery partition on the harddisk. However, the Lenovo button in combination with F11 does not work and always logs me on to Windows 7. I did not create the recovery CD's. Is it still possible to recover to Vista and how should I do that?

If you boot to the recovery cd's it will remove 7 and reinstall Vista. Backup all you data first as it will all be gone.

Data Recovery from Windows Back-up

So someone kicked down our front door and stole our computers. Now I am trying to restore my files from a Windows back-up. I have a WD My Book Essential drive and backed-up the C:// drive on 6/30/2014. The problem is that when I do a restore,
none of my files are there. I used Windows back-up instead of the WD app. WD is telling me it is a windows issue. Trying to get someone from Windows to actually talk to is near impossible.
I can see the back-up on the drive, but when I go into it, only the Users folder is there, even though I explicitly chose the C: drive (and it is even named as such). I can click on the back-up and get to the back-up set and then there are a series
of back-up file folders.
So my questions are:
1. I tried to restore from this back-up and it looked like it installed files, but when I went to my c: drive none of the folders or files were there. With a restore, shouldn't it restore the files in their folders? Maybe I am not understanding
how this is supposed to work. Where does it put the restored files?
2. Any suggestions as how I can recover my data from this back-up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If issue persists, is there any error message during Windows Restore? Please also check Event Viewerif it identify the problem.

Moving iTunes from Windows 2000 to Vista Home Premium

I am buying a new computer and am currently using Windows 2000. I have an older version of iTunes on it because I haven't been able to download the new version since Windows 2000 is no longer supported.
I have my entire iTunes folder backed up on another computer via a home network. I am wondering how to get all this onto my new computer. Should I:
Install the new version of iTunes on my new computer and authorize this computer?
Copy the iTunes folder from my back-up computer to the C: drive of my new computer?
If I do this, will it automatically restore all my playlists on the new computer?
Also, I have a lot of mp3 files that I have imported into my library which are currently residing on my C: drive and not in the iTunes folder. I believe iTunes is "pointing" to those files. If I move these mp3 files to the same location (same folder name) on the C: drive of my new computer will these be restored as well, or will I have to import them all into iTunes again? We're talking about 400 songs here and I would rather not do that if I don't have to.

By clicking "yes" to that message, anything on your iPod _*that isn't in your iTunes library*_ will be deleted from the iPod.
If you need to transfer music from your iPod to your new iTunes installation, then check out Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
*_Do this before you do anything else,*_ or you may lose what's on the iPod.

Change from PC to Mac, recover from windows backup

Hi guys,
I am probably about to become a Mac-user soon.
If have previosly used Win 7 computers, but yesterday my HD died during a backup process. It is totally dead and need to be replaced.
Fortunately I have the hole content backed up a few weeks ago.
However now I think of getting a Mac instead of a PC.
However does anyone know if I can recover files from the Windows backup file directly to a new Mac, or will I have first to recover to a PC and then do the migration from there?
Furthermore an additional question - is the transfer of emails and stuff from Outlook to the Mac-mail program straightforward or...
Hope anyone will be kind enough to spend a minute or two convincing me not to replace my dead HD with a new Win 7 HD but a Mac instead.

Partly, it will depend on the format of the external HD; OSX can read and write MS-DOS(FAT) and ExFAT volumes, and read (but not write) NTFS-formatted volumes. But there are 3rd-party apps that will.

Most folks who switch wish they'd done it looooong ago. There is, of course, a bit of a "learning curve," as some things are done differently. The longer you've used Windoze, the harder it will be to learn new habits.
But a new Mac will cost a lot more $$$ than a new HD.

Trying to recover from windows 8 to windows 7

I was in windows 7 then I upgraded to windows 8 and now want to recover but I didnt have recovory files, so I bought recovery cd's. The instructions say to put the disk in then turn off the computer, then turn it back on and the recovery manger will pop up and you follow the instruction. But it doesnt do anything, and continues to the normal windows 8 start screen.

How can I recover from Windows login failure: User Profile Service failed the login

I have Boot Camp installed on a separate partition on a MacBook Pro, late 2011 model. I have Mavericks installedd (10.9.1). I use, variously, both Parallels and VM Fusion to access the BootCamp installation of Windows 7.
Except for having recently installed updates of both VMFusion and Parallels, I got this failure message when trying to login to Windows:: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
I had just been on Windows a few moments previously to access a business site that only accepts IE. Appreciate any useful insight on dealing with this issue without having to totally replace the BootCamp installation. A lot of the suggestions on Microsoft Windows repair sites are either incomprehensible or don't seem applicable.

Same problem here. Windows 7 support gives several so-called fixes (including regedit tweaks, eliminating the blocked user account), but all require access to that partition. So far as I know, I have only one user, since this is my personal computer -- unless there is some sort of default "administrator" logon.
Windows support says the problem might be caused by antivirus software running while we try to logon, but this problem has never happened to me before, and I have not made anti-virus changes (maybe AVG or Avast did so automatically)
I tried to access regedit through Finder, but get a garbled text-edit with the message that regedit cannot be opened by DOS.
So I wonder (a) is there a default admin logon? (b) Can we tinker with the settings inside Windows from Finder, or (c) how else can we get into Windows?
My setup: Macbook Pro (Fall 2010), 10.6.8, boot camp, Windows 7.

Problem with recovering from windows phone 10 to 8.1

I installed windows phone 10 on my phone (lumia 730) and after a survey decided to turn back to WP 8.1. So, I installed windows phone recovery tool on my lap top and connected my phone with in. In the middle of recovery process the connection failed and

Can i write on ipad and recover from windows?

I want to be able to write notes or papers o my ipad, and then be to get to them, add, or print,, from my laptop that has windows. what do i use to do that? I'd also like to use other windows software, ie; word, office, power point, etc.

MS Office is not availble on an iPad. There are available apps that can exchange files with Office applications such as:
Pages
Numbers
Keynote
Documents2Go
And, many others you can search for in the iTunes Store or at AppShopper.com.

Downgrading from Windows 7 to Vista

I have already created recovery DVD's and want to run the Windows 7 upgrade I received in the mail. My question is; If for some reason I don't like Windows 7, will running my recovery DVD's undo the upgrade to Windows 7 and result in an "out of the box" laptop with Vista as my OS?

Restarting from Windows back to Mac sometimes restarts to Windows again

When I'm in Windows using Boot Camp, and I want to go back to Mac, I click on the Boot Camp system tray icon and click on "Restart in Mac OS X". Lately, half the time I choose this option, my computer restarts back to Windows instead of going to Mac.
This started happening after I had backed up my Boot Camp partition, then deleted it and restored it with the backup. I don't know if this is related to the problem, though.

I backed up the Boot Camp partition with Carbon Copy Cleaner. Since the backup was not bootable, I manually created a NTFS partition then restored the backup back to that partition, then made the necessary changes to make it bootable (write MBR boot code, etc.)
Yes, I did run the Windows 7 DVD to fix any startup problems, and it said that it didn't find any problems to fix. Also, I do have a Lion Recovery partition. I don't know how I can use that to fix this, though?

Reboot your MacBook. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Disks shows up. Choose your Mac hard drive (click on it and then the arrow below it.) When you are in your Mac OS go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and click on your MacBook hard drive. After that you should start up in Mac OS.
You can use the Option key trick to switch back to Windows.

Thanks Don, I am a writer and a photographer and probably not as savvy as you with technology or forums. I ran searches before posting my question, but nothing came back when using the keywords windows to mac, migrate DB, etc. So obviously I cannot even think about the right terms. Any link you can provide me with? So far after reading many posts around looks like LR will not work for my business because it does not support multiple PCs, but at least while I find another software solution, I want to be able to use my Macs with lightroom :-)

Something running major after switching from Windows to Mac OS X. Any Ideas

I have been experiencing one issue when I transition from Windows back to Mac. It seems like the hard drive is being scanned or something big is running. It slows down Mac until it has finished doing what ever it is doing in about 20 minutes. I'm thinking that Mac is reclaiming space back or something, but it is doing it every time. How do I find out what is doing this and how do I stop it (if I can)? Is it something that will always happen? Did I set something in bootcamp that I can unset maybe?

Finally figured out the problem on my own. My external hard drive was named <Mobile 2.5">. In this thread I read about others having a problem when their hdd was named in a comparable way (e.g. <storage for 21" iMac>).
I renamed my drive to <Mobile 2.5> and the problems are gone!
