Recover iDVD 5.0.1

I have successfully been using iMovieHD and iDVD5.0.1 to make 'movies' out of a sequence of jpegs. Using 720p option.
I recently purchased iLife08. Before installing, I saved my old iMovieHD, iDVD5.0.1 and iPhoto in a folder outside of applications.
I really didn't like the new version of iMovie, so I used the old iMovieHD together with the >>new<< iDVD from iLife08 to make a disc image which I burned as usual with disc utility. The quality of the resulting DVD was dreadful compared to what I was used to. Very large pixels, very low resolution.
So I trashed the new iMovie and iDVD. Put old iMovieHD and iDVD5.0.1 back in applications. Restarted. iMovieHD seems normal. But everytime iMovieHD tries to open iDVD, or if I just double click the iDVD icon, iDVD crashes immediately.
How can I get my iDVD5.0.1 working again?

Trick was to reinstall the new iDVD and then delete it with AppDelete. I think the secret was getting the new iPhoto outta there.

  • Slideshow created with iphoto will not burn with idvd

I cannot seem to burn dvd using idvd.  slideshow created with iphoto

I'm having the same problem after upgrading to 10.3.9 and iphoto 4.0.3. Read below:
Until recently I was running 10.1.5 using iphoto 2 to burn folders of photos within a library. After upgrading to 10.3.9 and iphoto 4.0.3 I get a message: “The burn to the ARCHOS MiniCDRW XS8432 drive failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.”
Actually, I got another message before I installed patchburn 3.1.2. After installing patchburn 3.1.2 for 10.3.X, system profiler recognized my burner and says it is supported but the above message is displayed after the program has stopped the process.
Toast Titanium 5.2.1 burns CD’s just fine but when a CD with an iphoto library is inserted into the CD-ROM the iphoto program will not recognize it. In other words, it won’t show up in iphoto as an iphoto library or anything for that matter. Maybe there’s a way to do this in Toast or maybe I need something else to make iphoto work with my burner.
    Can anybody help me? Thanks!

  • Where can I get an idvd?

I bought a new macbook pro with lion. I have iPhoto and iMovie pre-installed but can not creat home made dvd from them. Find out that I need idvd for making home movie and dvd. Should idvd be pre-installed in new mac as a package of iLife?  Where can I get an idvd? Please help!

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can  create and run a new library then your original library is damaged.
In that case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If the problem persists with the new, test library then a reinstall of iPhoto is warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the ilife 11 disk and run all necessary updaters. You can get them from the Apple Downloads page. Go to that page and search for iPhoto 9.  The 5 updaters will be listed.

  • Pulling images out of an iDVD slideshow

Stemming from another question I posted on the Powerbook G4 board, I have a question regarding an iDVD slideshow.
My Powerbook's hard drive, I have a sinking feeling, is dead. My iDisk was full and I was getting ready to buy more storage space when the crash happened. I'd just created and burned a slideshow of pictures from a trip to Austria ... is there a way to grab the individual images out of the iDVD slideshow and get them back as individual photos once my computer is repaired.
FYI, I'm looking into data recovery companies, but I'm not holding out much hope.
Please ... your insights are greatly appreciated.
    Powerbook G4 15w/SuperDrive   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   with 750mb RAM

iDVD has an option to add the original pictures to the DVD in the "DVD ROM" area. You can determine if it's there by inserting the DVD in a computer and quitting out of the Player application. Double-click the disc icon and look in the folders -- hopefully you'll find more than two folders and the third one will be labeled something like "DVD-ROM."
As SD says, your other options aren't so great. The slideshow on DVD is a compressed video file (mpeg-2 format) so you'd be uncompressing the video and then extracting a frame. You might check Graphic Converter and Photoshop to see if they can extract a frame without the conversion process.
I don't know if a screen capture would be better... thinking if you had a very large screen, then you'd wind up with a larger-sized screen capture (more pixels).
I assume the pictures were digital and you erased the memory card? There should be software to recover files from the memory card.

  • Edit in iMovie using archived iDVD project?

Well it looks like I may done something rather stupid. Before the holidays I produced a family vacation video, burned the DVDs and sent them out to all my family members. After watching it they pointed out some typos in some captions and some editing mistakes, so I wanted to go back and fix those and burn new DVDs. But I just realized I'd archived the iDVD project but not the iMovie project. I trashed the iMovie project to recover disk space. So now I'm left with just the iDVD archive.
Is there any way to recover my iMovie project from the iDVD archive?
    (I can't believe I trashed my iMovie files. That just isn't like me at all. <shame>, <embarrassment>, <lesson learned>)
    iMovie HD
    iDVD 6
    - Lofty

You can recover the movie from the archived DVD project but the movie may be in several sections/clips.  Just Control-click on the archived iDVD project file and select "Show Package Contents" from the contextula menu.  Then go to the Resources/MPEG.nobackup folder. The sections/clips should be in there.
You can import those clipes into iMovie but won't be able to edit the captions, only cut them out and put new captions in over new clips.  If you added captions to a black background and not over the movie itself you could cut out those sections and add new sections.  But if you have to cut out parts of the movie with captions to add new ones that could lose a good bit of the original movie.  In that case I thiink going with the typos would be the better solution.
When you're done use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option with Size = Large.  This will give a better final image than Share  ➙ iDVD will.  You will have to delete the existing movie file from the iDVD project and add the new, editied movie.

  • How do I get an image off iDVD

I have a DVD of photo images that was made with iDVD 4 or 5. I now have iDVD6. I can't find some photo images that should have been saved on a CD. How do I download some of the images that are on the DVD? Thank you.

    Deborah,
This is what I told another person recently:
If you didn't exercise the option to save the original image files in a DVD-ROM portion of the DVD when you created the iDVD project, your only choice to recover the images (at a MUCH lower quality level) is to make screen grabs of the images as you play back the DVD.
If you can't find a DVD-ROM folder on your DVD, your can try the following:
Making a screen shot from Apple's DVD Player application requires something like Ambrosia Software's SnapzPro at http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ or, you use the free VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) as player and use the usual apple-shift-4 to grab the image.

  • Change iMovie project while Burning in iDVD?

I use iMovie to import and process football game clips from our games and scout games. I change some clips, add titles, etc., and then ship it to iDVD for making the .img file. This process works really well.
My question is once I start the .img burning process, can I close the source iMovie project and import a new set of clips (game) into a new project without harming the iDVD burn process?
I'm very hesitant to do this as I'm not sure of the relationship between the iMovie project and iDVD when burning the DVD/.img file. I don't want to harm the iDVD processes by going to another project. Yes, I know that I can probably recover quickly, but this is normally a time driven process done in the wee hours the morning after the football games. I don't want to have to recover and start anything over at that time of night.
My suspicion is that they are independent and I can import a second project while burning the first.
    Thanks

    ... I guess I got a bit dramatic there...
that is the question... (besides the actual "what is showtime?" in about 30min???)
I think, this is a typical Karl Petersen question..
    my knowledge stops at:
iDVD uses the .imovie file as a reference, to collect all items needed for conversion; the conversion itself is a step-by-step process (menu, audio, video...); if you now change anything WHILE encoding... e.g. change the ref.mov by editing the project, or, better, delete something (a music file)… then?!
that is a vry tricky process, a kind of "collaboration" as programmers would call it...- I'm no programmer, I'm a user: when finished, I quit iM, launch iDVD, tell my Cube "nitynight" and next morning (450MHz here), my .img is ready to burn on my disk....

  • Iphoto, imovie and iDVD gone after reinstall

I just reinstalled Tiger on my Flatscreen iMac.
Iphoto, iMovie and iDVD are no longer there.
What can I do to get them back?

How old is your Mac and is it used?
If your Mac is fairly old and the 10.2 disk that came with the computer was your original System Restore disk, then Tiger must have been purchased separately and Software Update was used later to upgrade to 10.4.10. But the Tiger upgrade would not have included any iApp's. Buying iLife '05 or iLife '06 would be needed to give you all the iLife App's. If you bought or received your Mac used, then someone did not include the Tiger and iLife software packages with it. If this is the case, the only way to recover your programs is to buy iLife.
If your Mac is fairly new, then your System Restore disks should contain Tiger 10.4.? and include all the iLife '06 App's. Again, if you bought or received your Mac used, then you may be missing the original System Restore disks that came with it. If this is the case, the only way to recover your programs is to buy iLife.
Either way, If you do not have a system backup, then the only way to recover your missing App's is to buy iLife. Also, if you want to risk losing Tiger 10.4, do not attempt to run the installation program from the Jaguar 10.2 disk.

  • Time Machine "Delete all Backups" doesn't recover space

I recently deleted several iDVD and iMovie projects (>12GB) and disk images (4GB). Thinking I would recover all this HD space, I entered Time Machine, selected an old version of that file that TM had backed up, and then used the "Delete all Backups" command to get rid of them. However, instead of gaining space, I actually lost space on my TM backup drive!! It was as if TM had subtracted space instead of adding it back to my available space! Ex: Before deleting, I had 50GB available on TM backup drive. After deleting @24GB of projects, I expected to have @70-74GB available. However, I now have only 34GB!!
I searched for these named files in TM history, and they are not there. Why didn't TM give back that space??
    Thx,
    Pengueen

Thanks for replying. Yes, that was the first thing I checked. The files were no longer in Trash. I have since added other files to Trash, deleted them, and ran TM again. No changes. Is there any way to travel back in TM's logs to see what it did on that day? I found entries for "backupd" in the Console log, but they do not go back far enough (I need May 18, and it goes back only a couple of days).
    Thanks!

  • Archived an iDVD project to an external drive but can't access it

My DVD player on my MacBook Pro is broken so I'm trying to transfer an iDVD file to my Mac mini so I can burn DVDs. I tried archiving my project to an external drive and everything seemed to work normally but the project doesn't appear in the finder window for the external drive on my ProBook or mini. I tried changing all permissions to "read and write" but still doesn't work. The only place I can open the project is in iDVD on the ProBook.
    Help!

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • IDVD project has skips in the music

I have a 40 minute slide show with 500 photos and music - When I burn to DVD in iDVD I have two problems:
    1. There are occaisional skips in the sound track when the music seems to stop for a few seconds then recover. This is ok but unprofessional.
    2. On older DVD players both the music and pictures "skip" at every transiton. This is just plain horrible.
Questions: Is this show too much info for iDVD? How can I fix it? Is there another program I should be using.
    Thank you for your help.

Try limiting the number of images to 99 (or less) per slideshow and you should be fine.
And as for playing on older Dvd Players, make a disc image to the desktop (from the file menu) and then burn the image to Verbatim Dvd-R at 4x. Avoid dual layer as well as plus media since most older dvd players choke on reading this newer media.
Lastly, there are several alternate slideshow apps that work in conjunction with iDvd. These are just a few of them:

  • IPhoto to IDVD Slideshow problem

I made a slideshow ( 2900) photos from IPHOTO to IDVD ( used SEND TO IDVD for IPHOTO menu ) it took 6hrs.+ to complete the DVD, i did not save the project in IDVD but thhe system used 30 gig of hard disc space anyone known how i can recover the ( LOST ? DISAPEARED ) space
    I'm usin OSX 10.4.6 and ILIFE 06
    Thank You for ANY help
( I called APPLE but got NO HELP )

    2900 photos! - that's quite a show.
Try to use the find-file to find:
Size greater than 500MB then hit the "+" button to add another criteria
Choose other, and then set visibility to "visible or invisible"
Then find and see what comes up....should find large temp files for iDVD.
Just be careful what you delete!

  • IDVD 5.0.1 mulitplexing/burning errors

Here goes, my factory installed combo drive broke, so I got a new CD/DVD Burner : (company installed)
    Manufacturer:     _NEC
    Model:     _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A
    Revision:     1.05
    Drive Type:     CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning:     Vendor Supported
My iDVD 3 worked once, then would not work, it wouldn't open properly and had to force quit every time.
I asked our IT dept to re-install it. They couldn't find the software re-install disc. Sooo they got out the iLife disc and installed iLife with iDVD 5.0.1.
    It won't work either.
When I try to burn a DVD, it proceeds like it is encoding, then at the end, it gives me an error message; Errors in Burning Process. I hit ok then it says: Multiplex Error, problem during multiplexing/burning. I am left with a blank DVD and lots of frustration.
I try to bring up old DVD projects I've previously made with iDVD 3, but it keeps trying to find files that it cannot find. Even though I have all the files saved.
I have Quicktime 7.0 that I installed a while ago and iDVD 3 did fine with those exported files.
I have FCP HD 4.5, I usually export as a Quicktime file, same as source, creating new media (stand alone file). Never had a problem before with iDVD 3 and my old combo drive.
I have Mac OS X (10.3.9). I have 40 Gb available on my start up drive (Mac HD).
As I said before, I sucessfully burned one or 2 discs before iDVD 3 started acting up on me and led me to install iDVD 5.0.1.
Here's my console report from today's attempt:
Contents:     Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 (Build 7W98)

iDVD: Requested DVD burn speed was 2x, actual burn speed is 1x.
iDVD: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.
iDVD: Burn failed, Fri Oct 21 10:39:56 2005
iDVD: Burn sense: 5/30/05 Illegal Request, Cannot write medium, incompatible format
iDVD: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.
I've read some of the threads on this problem already, with no luck so far.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks,
    JBT

I am having a similar problem burning via IDVD 4. However, in my case the Superdrive in the installed original on a year old PowerMac G5. This is the second of two similar FCE projects each 90min. The first burned fine but the second one gets to stage 4 and stalls. The striped progress bar moves but the burning never takes place even after hours. Hitting the cancel button has occasionally given the message "errors were found during the burning process. Logical end-of-file reached during read operation".
I have tried the follwing remedies without success:
    1) taping the video back to the camcorder and reimporting it into IMovie. It looked fine even in the IDVD preview but would not burn
    2) I did an archive and install of the OS including the ILife apps
Even more perplexing is the fact that a short segment of the project in question burned just fine did a two hour long video saved as a disc image.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks, Jay

  • IPhoto updating/recovering Issues

    Hello,
Quite a while ago, I accidentally deleted my iphoto application. I attempted to recover the application by installing the applications disk that came with my macbook, a late 2010 macbook pro. I successfully installed the applications, iWeb, iDvD, except iPhoto, the application cannot be opened and is "not supported by my version of OS X".
I was an owner of iPhoto (whatever version it was) it came with the purchase of my macbook, and am in need of assistance of recovering an updated version of iPhoto.

You will need to purchase the new iPhoto in the Mac App Store (MAS) It's $14.99. Older versions of iPhoto won't run under Mavericks.
