Recover lost deleted corrupted music files tracks from iTunes match icloud

Just spent an hour on Apple's tech suypport line, all to figure out how to recover lost/deleted/corrupted music files/tracks from iCloud / iTunes Match.  Here's how to do it:
ASSUMPTIONS:  You're in iTunes on your computer, logged into your iCloud account.
Within iTunes, in the left-hand pane, select your Music library.  Alll your tracks should appear in the right-hand pane.   Those that are missing from your disk should be marked with an asterisk icon to the left of the track.    Do the following...
...select all the missing/lost/deleted tracks (using the option button), and hit the delete button.
NOTE:  when the delete dialog box comes up, make sure you do ***NOT*** click the "Delete from iCloud" selection!!!
...once deleted, select all the same tracks again, then hit the right mouse button, then select "Download".
All the tracks should start downloading, one by one, from iCloud.
NOTE:  If I were you, I'd perform this operation on discrete chunks (no more than 500 at a time), just to be safe.
Good luck!

You can also recover the missing tracks from the backup you are keeping on an external HDD. You are backing up, aren't you?

  • How can I delete a music file directly from iPhone? Or not possible?

Can I delete a music file directly from iPhone?

    Not possible.
Either unselect it during what it syncs, or manually manage > delete song.

  • HT203167 I just updated my Iphone, but have lost all my musics I purchased from itunes.

I just updated my iphone, but have lost all my musics I purchased from itunes.

Depending on which country that you are in you might be able to re-download it for free : re-downloading. Otherwise, have you not got a copy of them on your computer and/or on a backup that you can use to re-sync them to the iPhone ?

  • I have recently had some music files removed from itunes.  The  originals are still on my ipod.  How do i restore these missing items to my itunes......

I have recently had some music files removed from itunes.  This was not supposed to happen!  However the originals (consisting largely of playlists) ae still on my ipd and I do not want to do any syncing until I have resolved the issue. Is there any way to  restore these missing tunes from the ipod to my itunes?  Grateful for any input........

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
NOTE:  Songs previously purchased from the iTunes Store can also be re-downloaded at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.

  • How to recover deleted back-up file(s) from iTunes?

I'm needing to figure out a way to recover back-up files that iTunes removed during the recent install to the update 11.0.1.
I went to back up my phone manually. (Which I've been doing for years) I've never used or enabled auto-sync. Before I start a back-up I re-name my phone in a format like this "iPhone0913" This is to eliminate any confusion. That iTunes might try to interpet as, a duplication of another back-up file. By it having the same name (Which I know it won't but I do it anyway) Before the installation of the new update. I had 8 back-up files all dated and in order with the name designation that I've proivded. For example: 1. iPhone0105 2, iPhone1106 etc. as the numeric designation is for the month and year. So Oct. 2005 was my oldest back up file.
Once the installation/update took place, I plugged my phone in and clicked on back-up to this computer. All was moving along as it should, since this was only a back-up. Not a back-up and restore!! At any rate, I went through iTunes to verify that the back-up was there. (As I always do) And low and behold.. GONE!!
The only back up that was showing, was the back-up of "iPhone0913"  I did'nt go into panic mode at that point. Thinking that maybe iTunes moved or maybe archive the back-ups. I was trying to remain optimistic, but I knew there was'nt much that could be down. But maybe, I'm missing something.. I was able to locate 4 of 8 back up files. Only because I had backed them up from another drive.
I don't have Windows System Restore, enabled, So I was'nt able to recover that way. I'm still beside myself that this even took place.
At this point, I'm looking for any recommendations, sympathy.
Thanks in Advance for your help and support!

  • Music File Formats from iTunes Store

Can you help me - I want to start building my collection of AIFF files as I'm about to get a Wadia 170i transport!
Can I only down load music from iTunes in ACC format? IF yes then can they then be converted to AIFF post downloading?
    Cheers Nige

An audio component of that quality obviously needs good audio formats :
In terms of buying music, you would be advised to go for iTunes Plus, which gives you the music in AAC 256kbps (near CD quality, I cannot hear the difference).
Having got that, as long as the Wadia plays them - and it looks from the website as though it does - there is absolutely no point in converting to AIFF, which as Meg says will give you NO improvement in quality, only larger files. And if you ever did contemplate converting (pointlessly) to a higher format, then Apple Lossless is the same quality as AIFF but the file sizes are only half.

  • Lost tracks from itunes match

ive lost all the music on my ipod touch,i downloaded 7000 songs on itunes match but theyve disappeared, has this happened to anyone else?

The same thing happened to me. I downloaded the ones I wanted (took me ages!), then I changed it so it would only show the songs I had chosen. But it hadn't downloaded some, and had added some I didn't even pick. So I turned itunes match off then on again, and all the songs were gone. Unless I went back to Show All Music and all the songs were there with the cloud like you say. So I had to download them all again by pressing the little cloud on each song. I tried it again last night, same thing happened, I lost them all! Whats up with this thing. Do you lose all the tracks every time you turn itunes match off? And need to download them all again? Hope you can help us Michael

  • How do I transfer a music file (song) from iTunes list to my iPOD? The Apple help files do not make any sense in this regard.

How do I transfer a song from itunes to my ipod (they are connected). The Apple help files are truly pathetic in this fundamental function.
For example they say click on the "summary" button ... I find no summary button anywhere on my screen. How's that for a confidence builder?

This talks about iTunes 10, but it should work the same way in iTunes 11. Transferring purchases for an iDevice to your Mac.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2554
It should be File>Devices>Transfer Purchases, I think
You must be using the same Apple ID in iTunes on your Mac that your son is using on the Mini or the movie will not transfer.

  • Is the music I play from iTunes Match taking up storage space on my iPad?

I'm a bit confused. I have about 9000 songs in my laptop iTunes. I signed up for iTunes Match. As I play songs from those 9000 is it bringing them into my iPad and using storage there, or do they stay in my iCloud storage area and simply play from there? I signed up for it with understanding/hope that I could have all my music without using up space on my devices (iPad and iPhone). Am I correct that my device storage is NOT being used?

    You're welcome.

Thanks for the answer Michael. So how will I know when I'm getting dangerously close to using up all of my storage/data capacity?
If you've got your iDevice set up to sync via Wi Fi you can just look at the summary page for the device in iTunes to see how much capatcity is being used. But it shouldn't be a problem because the Music app will delete older downloaded tracks to make room for newer tracks as you download them. You can also delete music by track by swiping and tapping the delete button; or by Album or Artist by tap-n-hold and tapping the "x."

If I delete songs from my device to free up space will that delete it from my computer or iCloud list?
No. Only from your iDevice. And even when you do delete a track from your iDevice you'll still be able to see it as being in the cloud so you can download it again.

n my opinion Apple makes iCloud and iTunes Match sound like they are streaming technologies. Or let's at least say they aren't very forthcoming that all songs played are downloaded to your device. Maybe if you have any persuassion with Apple you could suggest they tweak their marketing message.
I don't have any "persuassion" with Apple but I do agree that the marketing language is, shall we say, fuzzy. It definitely should be modified.

  • Can you download all of your iTunes match account onto your computer?  I screwed up my iPod that had the entire library on it and the computer that had the hard copies of the files on it blew a hard drive.  I need to get the files back from iTunes Match.

Can you recover/download all of your iTunes Match account onto your computer?  I synced the iPod that I had the entire library on to a new computer and lost almost all of my music.  The old computer that had the library on it blew a hard drive and I can't sync the iPod back to the old computer.  Everything is in iTunes Match, but can I load it onto my computer, so I can get it back on my classic iPod?

If you had iTunes Match before all this happened, yes. Just log in, activate iTM and download the music. If you did not have iTunes Match prior to these incidents, no, it can not help you.
You should also be doing regular backups of your personal data to an extnal HDD. If you had a backup hue could simply restore it.

  • Some of my music is missing from iTunes Match and I can't add it manually.

I seem to have remembered being able to manually add any new music I got to the cloud by simply right clicking on an album or a song in iTunes. Now it seems as if that doesn't work anymore. I just got some new music and it's not showing up in my iPhone or iPad. Please help.

The issue lies with the info in each song/album. Since iTunes match tries to match your library with songs from their own library, the info in each album needs to show the specified artist and song names so iTunes Match can recognize it. (see this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17055402#17055402)
That solved my issue. I changed the album artist to be the artist name only and re-logged in to iTunes Match, then checked my phone and it was there.
    Thanks.

  • Please help.  Music files missing from itunes and computer!

I know that this isn't exactly a new issue, but I have scanned the discussions and nothing that I have read seems to help. My son has a nano (4th gen). He isn't sure but he thinks that maybe he disconnected his ipod before a sync was complete or something because all the music was deleted from it. He's not positive that's what happened but that's his best guess. No problem -- thought we'd just pull songs over again to it from our library. However, when we try to do this, on about 50% of the songs he wants (all were purchased, not from CDs) there are exclamation points next to the songs when we try to drag them and it says the file can't be found. I have looked in the itunes library on our computer and while I can find the libraries, they also don't have these specific songs we are looking for. I've tried to search and I just come up empty. Is there anything we can do beside buy the songs again? There are about 16 songs or so. A couple of them I have on my itouch. Could I somehow transfer the couple of songs to the computer? And would that work to get them to his ipod? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

+It appeared to do that as there are now duplicates in our library, but when I tried to drag the new song to the ipod, that darn exclamation appeared again and the song wouldn't transfer.+
It's easy to get rid of the duplicates. iTunes menu > View > View Options
Check the Date Added box, then click on the column name Date Added twice. Eveything you added to day will be at the top.
Then click File > Show Duplicates and only delte the one from today.
Do NOT delete both duplicates, or the song will be entirely gone.
As for dragging songs to the ipod, it has to be set for "manually manage music" for that to work. I don't understand about the exclamation point showing up again, unless you were dragging the 'old' reference that got deleted. Tyr dragging over the copy from today.

  • Attempting to transfer music files directly from iTunes to backup drive and get the the item can't be replaced because it's invisible. Its amazing how when something works flawlessly, Apple has to screw it up.  Never saw this until the new iTunes.

Hate it! Anywaze, suggestions welcome that can permanently remedy the issue without having to go through file by file, song by song to make copies, renaming, resetting, etc.  Thanks so much.

Are you dragging the entire iTunes folder across in Finder (which is easiest)?
